Seijiro is too busy fighting fires to try to watch the fight from the railing, though when all the fires are finally out, he listens to the accounts from those who weren't on the front firelines... When Rain, Horation, Ana and Amen return, he leads a rousing cheer for them.

Thank you, Seijiro. Although, to be fair, I don't think we would have left to hunt these guys until after the fires were put out, especially since Ana is a Divine Healer and can use spells like Create Water to help douse the fires. Meanwhile, after they return, if you were cheering for them, Horatio and Amen-set would certainly appreciate it.

Cool; that being the case, I need to get going to work, but that was a some fun social RP at the end and it does beg some interesting questions on how to deal with emergencies on the ship and what type of supplies to purchase for the ship in the future.

See you later tonight!

The fires are all out and the crew is accounted for, there were some minor burns and injuries but nothing too bad. The same cannot be said for your ship which has suffered serious if superficial damage. The entire port side of the ship is blackened and smoldering from the fire and heat. The sails are gone and the ship is stuck on a reef but Ana says when the time comes she can raise the ship off of the reef but the main issue is the sails, without which you are going nowhere. There is still the encampment to check out.

Game's to you all let me know what you want to do. Ana can fly a few of you over to the island pretty quickly all at once.

Sorry I took the ooc post to mean not worry about anything on that end. Anyways looks like your re all back already.

Well done finishing off the orcs. All that leaves is the island, repair work and the sunken ships to explore. Let us start with the island first and discover what may be there as there could be reinforcements that we are unaware of. Better to end that threat now then wait ad have them one upon us while we are fixing the ship. Since we have their ship we can use that to get tot the island and all stay together. We an keep Bismaras Tricorne in case of an emergeny.

Horatio eases his back as he swings himself off of Ana's body and drops to the deck.

"I don't mind checking that island out, but what exactly do we know about it already?" he says, rubbing his chin as if trying to recall any lore that they had.

Also, as the islands are marked in our logbooks already, maybe there's some information about this place - like a crude map or notes on what kind of folk here - is it deserted; villagers who do business with pirates - some ancient ruined temple to a dark, forgotten god - you know; the usual stuff...

Knowledge - Geography to find out stuff about: lands, terrain, climate, people
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26

Once he reaches any solid conclusions about this place, he'll share them with the others (it may help in preparing what type of gear we'll need to bring, if any).

"I'm guessing Sandara's in charge while we leg it out there; but is the ship going to be okay here? I mean to say; are we sure we can't spend some time using the mates to haul it off the reef and then just tow it out to some bay?" he asks the others.

I'm pretty sure that's what we'd have to do if there wasn't magic; and I've seen sailors "beach" ships to fight fires, as well as use boats to haul the ships off sandbars by using having cables between the ships and boats and then just tugging the ships off the reefs/sandbars. The thing - I'm not really trying to push this idea to gain any real tactical advantage (like firing on the beach with our cannons) I'm mainly asking for "In-Game" reasons. But if it works better to just fix the ship with magic while we go exploring, Horatio is totally cool with that.

Anyhow; no pressure about moving the ship if it's a game thing, but it's what Horatio would suggest. If it's feasible to do it "In-game" he'd want to try it, if it will slow things down story-wise, then no worries.

Horatio looks at Variel and a sudden light is in his eye.

"You're more into magic than I am," he says as a sudden thought strikes him.

"I looked all over that whore for a spellbook because I figured you'd be interested in copying some of her spells or something. Anyhow, I didn't find one like normal wizards have... On the other hand, she did have a Familiar..."

"Now I'm not saying that only wizards have Familiars," he says, knowing that both Amen-set had Horus and Dhaavan had Jack "but if that scum was a wizard, she didn't bring her spellbook with her."

"I never heard of a wizard leaving their spellbook behind, but maybe she did it stash it in a safe place on the island for some reason? But if that's the case - that she had a spellbook and left it on the island holed up in some little hidden room, then the way I see it wherever she left her spellbook - assuming she even left one on the island - well, if that's the case I'm wagering there's probably some pretty stiff fortifications on that place; likely magical in nature, too," he says.

"We ought to be prepared for ambushes, sure; but also maybe traps and so on..." he adds glancing around.

Ana speaks from her enormous flying lizard form and says in a deep rumble, There is a spell that I can use that can raise the level of the water and lift the ship off of the reef. Then I can take a rope and with the help of the men in the longboat tow the ship closer to the island if that is the wish of you all. Her eyes blaze again with green fire, and she chants for a moment before you all feel the ship begin to rise as the water swells underneath it. Once off the reef, the ship begins to slide back down the side of the swell and out into open water. The ship floats without issue so the hull was not breached.

Mythic point to cast Control Water, inspired spell, Raising the water level under the ship.

Sorry. Did not expect posting at this pace. If it's not too late, please assume Adular would have cast create water to help with putting the fires out before hand once the gagging ended.

"Allow me if ye like, Ana." Adular has Control Water as well, and wouldn't have to spend the mythic point to use it if you want.

You're good Adular, no worries.

Ana would definitely allow you to do it instead.

Adular grips his holy symbol and calls upon his goddess, and the lady responds as all feel the ship begin to rise as the water swells underneath it while swirling mist curls about the ship and Adular. Horatio scratches his chin for a moment as he witnesses the massive amount of magic used to move the ship.

His eyes flick to the island and he studies it for a moment after all the magic was used and he takes a long draw from his smoke and taps the ash off thoughtfully.

Well, that's good news because if one of our NPC's was willing to use a Mythic Point on a spell to move our ship instead of just having other NPC sailors move the ship with a little muscle then hopefully it's a sign that we won't need to save the Mythic Points before we head there, though to be fair, that's just a guess. To be honest I am still waiting on the results of the Knowledge: Local Check 15 and the Geography Check: 26 about this place. It's an island in the middle of an area used by lots of ships - surely we'd have something on that island.

In addition to the results to the Knowledge Checks I'm also personally curious to the results of Variel's Spellcraft Checks to Identify the other magical gear we found, especially if it can be used when we explore this island.

He glances at Amen-set as he tries to puzzle out this information and damns the fact that - seemingly - he cannot recall much at this time.

She looks at his face and nods at his expression; but says nothing then heads below. When she returns she is carrying a kit which she has over her shoulder.

Anasrianna wrote:

Horatio glances at Adular and then turns his gaze back to Ana.

"I don't know abut what the others think; but I know that we had a black finger of smoke stretched into the sky for a good while and that's likely to attract attention."

"If our ship can't sail without aid, I'd rather have it hidden in some sheltered cove or bay while it's being worked on. I'd also rather be able to make a fast dash from the beach to the ship if we're in trouble and have to make a run for it, rather than have our ship anchored way out here," he adds.

"So that being the case maybe we could send Horus or Jack aloft to scout the island for a good place to haul the ship to and then we just get it done?" he asks the others.

Flynn there are literally hundreds of tiny islands like this in this area. You don't know anything specific about this one. It's an island and looks like it has a bit of jungle on it. You'd guess it's a few hundred feet across at most.

Horatio glances at Dhaavan and grins.

"Thanks, Dhaavan," he says.

"By the way, the island seems to be very unusual," he says after a moment.

"It's only a few hundred feet across; yet there is jungle on it. That strikes me as curious, though useful. Even if the trees were extremely thick on the island it would likely take us about a minute to run across the entire island - that could prove useful if we end up fighting."

Still waiting on the answers on Variel's Identify Rolls for the Magical Items. When I find out more, I'll let you know, though.

Rain and Neko are at full HP - they were never touched by the wreckers or the fire.

Rain landed with care upon the now righted ship. She was still getting used to her wings and especially landing but she managed to descend relatively smoothly.

She accepted the cheers from the crew and from Jiro. She received Variel's praise with an incline of her head. To all those who worked to put the last of the fires out she added, "Well done to bank all the fires. We shall mend the Lady as best as we can", her eyes strayed to the blackened port side and the destroyed Wheel but did not give away her concern.

Turning to Amen-set, Ana and Flynn she smiled, "You have my gratitude for your assistance. Together we gave those orcs over to Besmara."

When she heard Variel mention Besmara's Tricorne, which she wore on her head, she simply responded, "Never leave without it, Captain. It shall be there as a backup."

At Flynn's talk of healing, Rain smiled at the doctor and said, "Neko and I are quite hale and do not require healing. I thank you for your consideration, however."

Rain's eyes moved about the deck and she spied the golden cat sitting on the good/intact side of the ship, watching her and the others with shining emerald eyes. Via their mental link she greeted her cat companion, //Good to see you, Neko. What did I miss?//

Ana is still in giant flying lizard giraffe form.

When you guys are ready you can head out to the island. It will be uneventful but you find several shacks with lots of materials and cargo within. I will just give you a list of what you find.

- 6 points of plunder worth of spices, silk, and lumber.
- 2 sets of sails recovered from previous wrecks
- 2 additional longboats
- an alchemists laboratory (crude)

In a sea chest hidden underneath what you presume to be the female leaders bunk is:

- a mithral dagger set with a quail egg sized aquamarine gem
- A Shackles Ensign - This red-and-black naval ensign displays the grinning skull and crossed manacles of the Shackles. While the flag feels as sleek as silk, the material is stronger than the toughest sail canvas. Openly flying a Shackles ensign improves the initial attitude of
most hostile or unfriendly pirates by one step, and worsens the starting attitude of those opposed to piracy by one step. The ensign has no effect when not properly mounted on a ship. Once per day, a Shackles ensign can be hoisted and unfurled on a ship to impose a sinister sense of doom upon an opposing ship’s crew. It takes two full-round actions to
raise the flag. All non-pirate creatures (defined at the GM’s discretion) within 300 feet who are able to see the flag take a –1 penalty on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, and skill checks for 1 minute. This is a visual mindaffecting effect. In addition, all allied creatures aboard the ship flying the Shackles ensign gain a +1 luck bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, and skill checks for 1 minute.
- 320 gp
- The Spellbook of Vakarla - Contains all sorcerer/wizard cantrips plus
Knock, Wall of Force, Water Breathing, mirage arcana, overland flight, fear, hallucinatory terrain, phantasmal killer, Wall of fire, haste, invisibility sphere, major image, stinking cloud, vampiric touch, false life, fog cloud, invisibility, mirror image, rope trick, scorching ray, burning hands, color spray, grease, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, silent image, vanish, major image, nightmare
- Wrapped in oilcloth you also find the Golden Vespal, a solid gold wasp

Male Human Guns. 1 (Mysterious Stranger), Fighter 1 (Lore Warden), Bard 6 (Archaeologist) - Barbarian 1 (Urban) Mythic (Champion) (AC 20 / HP 82 / F +9, R + 10, W +7 / Ini + 3 / Perc. +16)

Horatio glances at the others when they mention their health and seems a little surprised.

"Good, good. That's a relief," he says, nodding.

"My thinking was that we're not going to just waltz in to a hidden base and find a few cabins with a bunch of loot laying around."

"Nah... This whole expedition promises to be dangerous and extremely risky. Like as not the shacks we see from the water are just the tip of the iceberg, as were, and we'll probably have to deal with traps, dangerous island predators, the remainder of her crew and a whole bunch of other hash."

"I figured we'd get Sandara to heal us so we don't waste our spells when we hit this island," he adds, his eyes narrowed as he peers at the island in the distance, his hands loosening his sword in his sheathe as he prepares for whatever mysteries and adventures will await them.

"Way I see it; if you're storming a pirate stronghold that also housed a wizard you can bet that at the least this trip is going to be eventful..."

DM Immortal wrote:

Horatio looks at the others when they get back, somewhat pleased that they got some new gear but rather surprised at how easy it was.

"I'm glad we got that with no one getting hurt."

"But what I can't understand is why we haven't found out what any of the gear we found on her when she was on our ship does..."

Still curious as to the Identify Checks that Variel rolled earlier. If anyone else discovers what they are, please let me know.

I am not sure if Adular is out of Channels. Let me know if Sandara has a zap left in her as I assume she's been healing the regular crew.

Adular heals folks up as best he can, and encourages the crewmen, "And some of you lads were bored, remember boredom?" He grins at newer recruits, some of which he helped, "Welcome to the Dread Lady, where any day might be the day that will give you a story worth free drinks at any tavern what loves a good tale."

When they go onto the island and search the shacks, he cheers to the others,"Sails! Two longboats we can add onto our own..."

When the Wasp is found, he grins, recognizing the holy object for what it is, "And the prize we came for! We had to go down the dragon's gullet to find the treasure in its belly, but it worked. The Golden Vespal!"

Will update the loot lst tonight hopefully but variel is very interested in that wand of shield! Have to look at the scrolls and spellbook to see what else he could use.

Seeing Rain look out to see Variel heads over to her and stands there looking out at what she might be seeing. I never got the chance earlier to tell you but taht was a fine piece of maneuvering there to avoid as much of the reef as you did. If it was anyone else we would be a lot worse off. I still have a lot to learn from you if you are still interested in teaching me later.

With the island quickly explored a veritable treasure uncovered in plunder and necessary items Variel feels better off then he did 30 minutes earlier. Once back on the Lady variel quickly gives orders for teh crew to rig the new sails up and to worry about the repairs later. We can sail with a broken steering wheel but we need those sails to do anything. Next get some lines overboard to haul up the other boats and fasten them to the ship. With extra crew now we need more longboats should something happen to The Lady. Once those tasks are done with then worry about the structure itself.

As he is giving orders to the crew Variel remembers what their mission was. They had recovered the Golden Vespal but Dindreann wanted confirmation of the deaths of those repsonsible. Finding the body of the arcanist who was apparently in charge he grabs the body and stows it in a barrell. Adular, in the morning would you please keep this body from rotting till we get it back?

Rain's eyes remained fixed on a point in the distance and when Variel finished speaking she turned her body and gaze toward him. Her voice was steady but sombre,

"I would have rather not run aground. I did what I could and I thank you for the praise. And aye, Captain, I will continue to share with you my knowledge and skill at the Helm."

Back from island.

"Such fortune to find sails when we are ever so in need of them. I shall aid the crew in getting them up and ready."

Rain will also assist Piper in repairing/constructing a new Wheel.

Not sure what rolls are required but here goes:

Prof Sailor to set new sails in place: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (11) + 22 = 33
Craft: Sails re any repairs or alterations: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Craft: Ships (re repairing Wheel) to aid Piper: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Hearing Variel ask Adular to preserve the Half-Orc sorceress as proof of success, Rain simply nodded. That would surely appease the Calistran Priestess, along with the return of the Golden Vespal.

So, after we make repairs, so we head to the house of secrets, or return the wasp? Dhaavan asks.

Upon hearing her words Variel pauses to look at Rain,

Rain:
She said 'captain'. That means I screwed up just now I know, but how and what? She said she was fine to flynn but perhaps there is more that she does not want to say out loud to anyone. Taking her hand in his ariel gives it a light squeeze in support and comfort. Still holding it he asks her, How are you holding up, Rain? I do not want you to feel any blame for what has happened. We were all taken by surprise and it is my fault more than anyone's for wanting to advance in the shallows. Or is there something else that is bothering you?

Dhaavan, let us investigate the ships sunken below us first and then I say we head to Bag Island. That is closer and on the way to Quent. Perhaps we can figure out what we need there and head out after that. I dislike backtracking if we can help it.

As Horatio prepares to go below Amen-set bows respectfully to him.

Then, noting that Rain is still on the deck she moves near Rain and grips the musket stock and slams the butt of it on the deck, holding it firmly as if she was some type of honor-guard to Rain.

Her eyes are fixed on some distant area and although she seems completely ambivalent to her immediate surroundings it’s clear that she is remaining in her position to formally act as some type of escort or support to Rain when Horatio is below.

Horus circles for a moment then lands on her shoulder and his golden eyes stare hard at everyone around him with a keen, piercing light.

As Rain moves to work, Piper comes up from below. She has a bandanna tied over the kinky locks of her hair, a small wad of tobacco in her lip and a small set of tools dangling from her belt.

"Whelp - let's get this shindig started," she says to Rain as she comes to aid her.

Piper spits a stream of tobacco juice out of the corner of her mouth and turns to Variel.

"Sounds good, captain tight-pants," she says as she offers Variel a wink then takes out a rag and wipes the grime of her hands for a moment.

Amen-set moves from her place and speaks quietly and respectfully to Rain.

"Nebet-i, perhaps this will aid you?" she says offering Rain an object from her belt.

Rain - she offers you this.

Piper's eyes widen on the item Amen-set gave her.

"Ooh, shiny," she says with surprise as Amen-set rolls her eyes at Piper's exclamation.

Piper seems to ignore Amen-set's response and instead she turns and begins to work with Rain on the ship while she sings softly about some song about the sky and being free...

At the rail, Neko on one side of her and Variel on the other, Rain was a little surprised when he took her hand in his.

Variel:

She permitted Variel to take her hand and hold it. Her generally smooth brow creased a little but she pushed away some internal contemplations to respond discreetly (as discreetly as one can on deck with the officers nearby) to her betrothed.

"Next time we will not fall for such trickery. I have learned my lesson from this encounter." Rain pursed her lips together and was silent for a second. "I did feel anxious out on the sea for my wings are only a day old and I am still learning to fly. I did not want to be a stone and sink while chasing after the last of the wreckers. I faltered a little once as I misjudged the wind - flying well will come with time and more practice. It's a strange and new sensation. I should not have flown off alone."

Rain paused again as if considering her next words.

"You show such open care for the others. I do not begrudge it and understand you have the charge of many. Yet, you do not show me said ready concern and it presses on my heart and mind from time to time. We do not have to speak of it now - I was merely answering your inquiry. There is much work to be done before we can set sail, again." It was apparent that Rain felt uncomfortable bringing up the subject for Variel had once told her that he would not show her any special treatment because of their union. She compared this to Pierce's unyielding attentions and professions of love after only knowing her for mere minutes. She was not a weak Elf and could defend herself. She was whole of body but that did not mean she did not require some attention - some indication that her presence was noted and her feelings considered. Perhaps Pierce's newly sprung attentions had shown her that she was worth courting and indulging from time to time. Pierce captained his own vessel, too, and he used magic to locate her and shower her with gifts ... She did not expect all this from Variel. But some of his attention was certainly not too much to ask from her betrothed. No, it wasn't much to ask at all.

She had listened as Variel spoke of searching the sunken vessel below them before they sailed to their next destination.

"Will you undertake this exploration as I and the crew work at righting the sails and the Wheel?"

It was then Amen-set drew closer and then stood beside her like some almighty sentimental. Horus flew down to perch on Amen's shoulder. Rain turned to the girl, "Little sister, be at ease, please. There is no current threat, and though I applaud your loyalty, I do not expect you to stand at guard in my presence." Rain gently smiled the girl, knowing how passionate and dedicated Amen-set could be.

It was then that Piper came topside in her usual exuberant fashion and together they began work on the Wheel before the sails required her undivided attention.

Piper wrote:

Rain shook her head at the familiarity in which she spoke to Variel. "That is my betrothed you're speaking to with such familiarity, Piper." Her eyes were stern for a moment but then they twinkled with mirth. She understood that the girl meant no harm but Rain could not help establishing her claim from time to time -- it was good to keep these girls on their toes.

Amen-set wrote:

Rain gladly accepted Amen-set proffered tool. "Indeed, Amen, it will come in very handy. Thank you. I shall return it to you once the repairs are complete. I should purchase such tools for myself when we return to Quent."

(The any-tool counts as a set of masterwork artisan's tools for most Craft or Profession skills. So you get a +2 circumstance bonus on Craft checks made with them.)

Not sure if Amen-set means to stay by Rain's side as she works on the repairs? Will address this in further rp, if needs be. :)

It was then she heard Piper's little song and Rain fell into a nice rhythm/pace with the girl as they worked alongside one another for a time.

Once Rain is done helping Piper as much as she can, she will start with the new sails.

Amen-set bows low to Rain and obeys; her feet sliding slightly apart and the barrel of the musket easing forward in a 45' angle. In short, she looks as if she is "at-ease" in a traditional military sense, rather than relaxed.

It should be noted that while you work she is certainly paying attention to you, though; but you suspect it is simply because she is making sure you do not accidentally injure yourself while you are working.

The ships below the surface have been pretty well picked clean by the wreckers. The stuff you found at their campsite was the stuff they had collected from the wrecked ship.

So are you guys heading to bag island on the way back or going straight back to the Calistrian temple/brothel?

Rain noted that Amen-set only moved into an "at ease" stance and watched over her like a hawk. Some time soon Rain would have a quiet word with the girl about not having to cater to her in such a fashion.

Once the sunken vessels were searched and nothing more could be found on them, and the others returned to the ship, Rain looked to Variel, "I have no issue with sailing the Lady to Bag Island before we return the statue to Quent. What say you?" she asked the other Officers.

Ok I'm going to move ahead.

After spending the night making repairs and generally resting and recuperating from the battle, you set off for Beachcomber on Bag Island. The trip is uneventful and though the ship doesn't move as well as it did before due to the sails not being perfect and the new wheel being stiff, Rain manages to still make good time.

The port of Beachcomber is known as one of the rowdiest settlements in the Shackles and many of it's inhabitants are rumored to be secret worshipers of Norgorber.

Knowledge Local or Religion DC 15:
Coming out and asking someone where the temple of Norgorber is, is likely to meet failure at the least or a knife in the ribs is definitely possible. Instead you need to conduct yourselves in the manner of Beachcomber itself...through innuendo and doublespeak. This will take a bluff check

The Lady fought her as they sailed to Bag Island. Perhaps commissioning custom made sails once they docked in Quent would help to improve movement/motion. The Wheel would have to be broken in with time. The trip was not terrible but not as smooth as she was used to with the Lady. She docked the Lady in Beachcomber Port.

As they move closer to Bag Island Horatio takes time to question the natives who now sail with them on the ship – specifically the new Hobbits. He also asks to know what village the Hobbit family ended up staying at; it’s possible that the company could arrive at that village and gather some useful information.

He turns to Amen-set to say something and notices her standing near him and Rain like some kind of Colonial Marine and stares at her for a moment and then shakes his head and lets out a sigh at her behavior and turns back to Rain.

”I figure it’d be good to go visit the village of the folk we rescued and see how they’re doing. Plus, they may have some news for us on where to go next…” he says to the general group.

Horatio winces at the possible near risk he might have put his friends in if he had been more direct.

"Damn! Thanks for the tip, padre," he says.

"Okay, so that's a no-go on the asking direct," he says after a moment, then turns to Dhaaavn.

"Well, you've got the best chance at getting this done, I'd wager. So basically you'll just head in and play it sly until we manage to get ourselves into this place?" he asks the First Officer.

"If you do that - and I'm not saying that you should, just that you'd be good at it is all - but anyhow; whoever does this, what should the rest of us end up doing while we're here?"

Nodding in understanding at the use of the word Capain Variel keeps his hand on hers. I am sorry for my words and apparent lack of concern. In truth I knew that you could handle yourself and that you had avoided most of the heavy wounds where they had suffered some grevous ones. I don't know why but it almost seems like you are a forbidden fruit that I can only appreciate fully in private. Those are but excuses though and I should have sought you out first.

After the ship's below have been searched out and found lacking in anything usable the rest of the night is spent recovering from the trials of that day. With the ship repaired as much as possible and the new sails fastened The Lady made its way albeit a bit more cumbersome to Bag Island.

Horatio if you want to check up on the family you liberated that may be a good idea. That could give us some leads that even Dhaavan's silvered and honeyed tongue may not produce. Lookig at the others, What was the name of the contact that Dindreann gave us? It would not seem out of place to try and contact him directly for a mutually beneficial business proposition.

Looking at Rain for advice mainly as she was the pilot, In the meantime I could try to see if they have any silk sails that would fit our ship better if you think that is a good idea. The sails we have now are are a good back up but fitted sails would help still. Or if they do not have the sails themselves then materials for the express purpose of crafting the sails would work. That would give Piper a task if you think we don't need them now Rain?

Horatio glances between them and clears his throat a bit.

"We didn't really have time to get them cut right; but I'm pretty sure that Piper could probably make a few adjustments to the sails we got and get them to fit without having to buy a whole new set."

"Besides, if you want them custom fit you'd need a sailmaker to measure her lines proper and then stitch them from scratch and that could take a little while."

"But do what you got to do, though," he says with a friendly smile.

He turns to Amen-set and tells her to pack a few kits for them to go ashore.

I'm guessing that the village may not be flush against the place that holds the temple. Luckily, Horatio has no problem with checking things out. For now I'm looking for a map of the island with a few points of interests on it (such as towns, villages and cities - and hopefully ports) but I guess that will show up as soon as the GM gets a chance to post it.
