DM Immortal |
Seijiro rams his dagger between the shoulder blades of the rat flanking Variel. Seeing this Variel turns and attacks the rat in front of him. Horatio with a cunning thrust skewers his rat upon his rapier.
Variel I took care of the saves. For things like diseases and such I roll that privately because you wont know if you are diseased until you start getting symptoms. :-) Also I changed your attack to Rat 2 because Seijiro killed 6
Rain Taneththir |
Angered by the rat's (DR 1) attempt to bite her and hearing Variel's words, Rain growls and strikes out with her cutlass, hoping to slash its body before it can attempt to bite her again. Filthy vermin!
Attack (with cutlass) on DR 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

no problem just trying to help. Good to know for future reference though. That actually makes its nicer that way not knowing.

It's all good. I appreciate the effort. :-)
Dhaavan |
Dhaavan simply stands there above the hole looking down on the proceedings. His hands rise, tracing arcane symbols in the air, as he begins to speak an inscrutable language.
summon monster 1
Valeros Jaloksin |
Valeros moves down to the rat at Horatio's back, his hand outstretched. Icy frost coated his hand and whisps of fog floated off it as he reached out to try to brush it against the rat's body.
Move action to D4.

DM Immortal |
It looks like everyone went so I will proceed. Don't worry about miss chance for last round, just remember going forward. Going Clockwise from DR 1 again.
The rats continue their frenzied attack, driven wild by the smell of blood. As you are facing them, three more burst from the water and attack as well.

So is there reason people are rolling a miss chance at all? The rules stipulate that anyone within 20 foot radius of a "Light" spell are considered in "normal vision". Valeros cast a "Light" spell on a rope - handed me the rope, and I took the rope and slung it over my torso like a bandoleer. I am currently at E:4 - which means that if each square is standard 5x5 that the entire room is considered "lit" or under the effects of normal lighting. If there is another specific reason you are rolling a miss chance, however - please disregard this post.
Seijiro |
I think it had something to do with the water
Seijiro moves so he can't be flanked and attacks a rat (dr7) with his dagger. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

Yes they are getting concealment from the bilge water that they are attacking from. They are very similarly colored and small enough to be hard to spot and tell exactly where they are.

He did say right at the beginning in the same post as the link to the map:
The opaque water gives the rats partial concealment (20% miss chance) so make sure to factor that in to your attacks.

You're exactly correct - that was completely my error - apologies. I will roll now to correct that.

And in an amazing display - the weapon missed and did no damage at all.
Dhaavan |
Was posting from my phone, hence the lack of flavor.
The fire burns hot in Dhaavan's eyes and he utters the last foul syllable of his spell DC16 to identify and grins as a familiar face appears suddenly within the Bilges.
Upon appearing, feeling the resonance with it's master's will and hearing his words, the Fiendish Eagle does it's best to utterly eviscerate the creature before it. DR 8

Rain Taneththir |
Rain cries out in rage as the rat in front of her strikes true with its sharp bite. The rat behind her had attempted to bite her as well but missed her leg fortunately. I bet your Plugg's filthy pets. The strikes against you keep building Plugg, she muses in silent frustration.
She once again swings her cutlass at the rat before her (DR 1) and attempts to slash through the disgusting rodent. This brackish water isn't helping! If only we could drain it away.

Seijiro's blade strikes home as Dhaavan's devil bird eviscerates one of the rats. Horatio sends what looks to be a perfect thrust through a rat but the water throws off his aim slightly sending the blade wide of its mark. Rain, distracted from being attacked by both sides, spins with her cutlass trying to keep them at bay but does not manage to hit.
Valeros, Variel, and Sko are up.
Variel Nightstorm |
Trying to finish the rat in front of him, Variel strikes out with the cutlass. However the water and speed of the giant rats foil his attempt.

Valeros keeps his eyes on the rats around him, trying to compensate for the water's reflection as he swipes his hand out again, trying to catch one of the rats in his icy grip.

Sko sustains a minor bite from the rats as they nip at him. Enraged, one of the rats leaps and bites viciously at Variel, seizing him in the thigh and ripping a chunk of flesh away.

Dhaavan |
Almost in response to Variel's request there is a screech and as a hint of brimstone is added to the pungent aroma of the bilges. (F:4)
Dhaaven ducks down looking into the Melee, uttering harsh foul words and grinning maliciously and his pets continue to move about the small space, screaching and ripping.

It maintains the flank until after the rats have finished their turn.
DM Immortal |
Dhaavan, remember you only have line of sight/effect to the square under the trapdoor and the adjacent spaces so you wouldn't have been able to place the eagle in F4. You could place it in D3 and have it move to G3 and get one attack. It won't matter for now as that attack would kill the rat anyway. Also which rat did you shoot the orb at? Your first eagle vanishes at the end of this turn correct?
Dhaavan's birds shriek and destroy one of their favored prey. Two more of the rats falling to their beaks and talons.
Sko |
I'm going to be on the road for a bit. If the fights still going when my turn comes up here's his attack (he'll 5' step or single movce as necessary.

unless you are a summoner, I believe your duration on a summon monster cast at 1st level is 1 round (dur=1 rd/lvl) - it attacks that round, and disappears at the beginning of your NEXT init - so it only gets one round of attacks.
Seijiro |
Seijiro moves up on rat 5 and slashes at it with his dagger, missing badly. He curses in Minkaian and looks over at Variel to see if there's anything he can do to help over there. Seeing no opening, he turns his attention back to the rat at hand.
to hit 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Dhaavan |
Dhaavan's Varisian Tattoo increases his caster level of conjuration spells by +1 so he gets 2 rounds at level 1.
The acid orb will target DR 10 to try to thin out the pack there and open up space for some of us to go for a flank, or make it possible to do ever so slightly sooner with the one point of damage...
Seijiro |
ah well, that's awesome - you do get 2 rounds then.. cool
Horatio Flynn |

"Oye - Valeros lad - look to the elf! He needs magical healing quick smart!" I call out as a free action - hoping to get Valeros's attention before he attacks one of the Dire Rats that are by me.
If he does that, the elf may collapse into the water, and possibly drown!
Rain Taneththir |
Rain's inability to hit one of the large rats and Flynn's voice stating that Variel was almost down and in need of healing, quickens her rage and determination and with a low growl she slashes at the rat (DR 1) and hopes to sunder its head from its body. Why won't you just die?!

Yay Rain! If you drop the rat, then Variel should be okay for a while, until we get him some healing!
Variel Nightstorm |
Heading to bed. Good luck all
Don't know if this is acceptable but don't want to hold people up if I a heading to bed. Here are the two actions that Variel will take depending on healing from Valeros.
If not healed, withdraw to the ladder and start climbing up. The damage from the rat was starting to show. Variel did not have the strength to continue the fight. As reluctant as he was, he knew that stepping back now while he was still able would be better than having his companions worry about a fallen ally.
Climb check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
If healed then attack the rat DR1. The healing powers of Valeros surged through him. The renewed vigor showed as Variel attack the rat with gusto. The tide finally turning in the favor of the press ganged pirates.

His attack strikes a vital spot but he accidentally turns his wrist on impact, doing little damage as a result.

The group manages to take out a majority of the rats in this round and thanks to a timely healing by Valeros, Variel dispatches the last of the rats near him and Rain. The two left at the bottom fight like cornered...well...rats.

Dhaavan waits with a gleeful smile, observing the fight, so see what happens next, if he heeds to draw upon more of his highly limited power, as the extermination does look fairly well in hand, with only two rats left.
