OOC discussion goes here. I hope to get this up and running by Wednesday. You have till then to make minor tweaks to your characters.

Kellid barbarian (Numerian liberator/primal hunter)/slayer 1. HPs: 15/15 - Rage: 6/6 - AC: 16|11|15 (+1 vs robots) - For:+4 | Ref:+5 | Wil:+1 - Per:+5 Init:+3

"Hrah! I see many battles in the distance. I am honored to fight in them, and in such company. Come, Husband, do not let the Godspeak tie your tongue!"

"HA, Wife! Many battles and challenges lie before us, indeed. With the strength that comes of companionship, and the armor of wisdom, guided by The Lord in Iron, our company shall be victorious, and we shall be covered in glory and honor."

"Or, die spectacularly, I suppose. In either case, let us enjoy the struggle!"

Happy to be here! I'm probably going to drop the Variant Channeling, just because Takek looks to be the only healer, and the hit points are probably going to prove more valuable than the Str bonuses. I think I also miscalculated his CMD, so I'll take a look at that again. But other than that, I think he's as ready to go as he can be.

"This One is ... pleased? to be a part of this undertaking. It looks forward to a great adventure."

Thank you IRONlord for running this game and for the selection. We are an interesting and diverse group. I can't wait to see how we interact with the world and each other.

Just a word of note. The player who proposed Trissandra has disappeared from the boards as of November 20. His high-magic Rise of the Runelords game was forced to recruit a replacement GM.

Rhangil, would you have taken part in any expeditions to aquire starmetal? If so, you may have met Θ3Ξ5 previously (possibly even hired it to protect the expedition).

"This is going to be a very entertaining venture. I can't wait for us to get started!"

He would have taken part in one or two expeditions, but he mainly worked in his families shop. Rhangil would most likely have met Θ3Ξ5 in the process of hiring him/it.

So I did a little tweaking of Θ3Ξ5 (mostly gear and moved a point from wisdom to strength) to keep in light encumberence. I think I'm happier now, there are a lot of abilities for both Rangers and Rogues that work better (or at all) unencumbered. Let me know if you have a problem with that, I can switch it back.

No problems as long as it all adds up

Speaking to the "how we all know each other" theme...

Takek and Valki have been mercenaries for a while, but disappeared two years ago to visit Takek's family in the River Kingdoms. About a month ago, they showed up in Torch again, and have taken a few small merc/bodyguard jobs in the intervening time. It's possible paths have crossed in this arena.

Takek has also done some preaching in town, though not actively proselytizing, so folks may know him from that.

Also, welcome just in general. But yay for CLW, too!

Welcome everyone! Hope this ends up being an enjoyable experience for everyone. If everyone could please post a bit about what you are doing in Torch when the game begins, that would be fantastic. And feel free to interact in character a bit so I can get a feel for your characters voice and personality. I hope to get the game up and running tomorrow.

"My name is TIB, I got a license to kill! I think you know what time it is..." Any Beastie Boys fans in the house? No? Crap...

Takek Iron Back is a priest of Gorum. But he's no dour, "life is hard, suck it up and strap on your armor," look-down-his-nose-at-non-warriors elitist. His philosophy seems to be that life is full of challenges, and each is an opportunity to grow and get closer to the things that you really want. He encourages folks to embrace the challenges, enjoy the moment, and fight with all you have for all that you want. If you can do all of that while also wearing armor, so much the better. ;-)

He's happily married to the love of his life in Valki a woman who tests and challenges him every day, while also making him feel like he's the king of her world.

The two of them work as mercenaries, for the most part. They're not terribly picky about the pay, but do look for jobs that may prove challenging (not a huge stretch, given their level-1 status), and don't seem to mind if those jobs may wind up putting them at odds with the League. Despite their desires for more challenging work, they've mostly worked as bodyguards for travelling smiths and traders, I think.

As I mentioned above, they disappeared from Torch about two years ago, but arrived back in town again a month or so ago, once again looking for work.

I suspect that, had they been here when the Torch went out, they'd have been in the first group to investigate. So I'm thinking that they just got back into town yesterday, having been away for a week or so, guarding a caravan of some sort.

I'll throw up a more IC post later tonight.

Male Human Gestalt Brawler (Exemplar)/Cleric 1 [HP: 13/13 | AC: 17| T: 11| FF: 16 | CMB: +4 | CMD: 15 | Fort: +4 | Ref: +3 | Will: +5 | Init +1 | Perc: +3 | Speed: 20' ]

Takek stood tall, even under the weight of his chainmail armor and the giant pack (and even more giant sword) on his back. An onlooker might be forgiven for thinking that standing tall was relatively easy to do for a man of Takek's stature. The top of his head came in just a couple inches shy of six and a half feet above the soles of his boots, after all.

But with a few minutes of observation, that same onlooker was likely to realize that, with Takek, it was something else. There was an inner strength in this man, a way of viewing the world that kept him unbowed. His smile came easily, and seemed to always reflect in his steel-grey eyes as he greeted and returned greetings from folk in the tavern room. Though clearly just returned from the road, and weary with dust and walking, Takek took time to give at least a polite nod and exchange words with anyone who crossed his path.

Eventually, he reached the innkeeper, and began discussions around renting a room.

Leaving which inn/tavern, who's in the room, time of day, and other details deliberately vague, so as to allow other PCs to be there (or not), and to be one of the folks he exchanges greetings with (or not). I'm relatively sure that Valki will be making her own entrance a minute or two behind Takek, in her own, inimitable style. :-)

Brief summary of Torch
Map of Torch

Fixed the image link... I think.

This is all readily available info to anyone that's spent a decent amount of time in Torch. Of course if you want to play someone totally new to the city, feel free not to read.

Map Locations:
1. Iven's Livery Stable: Most travelers visiting town leave their mounts and pack animals in the care of Iven Lesky, a retired tracker who chose to settle in Torch after falling in love with a young Kellid woman named Annika. Together, they buy and sell horses, doing frequent business with trade caravans drawn to the town's marketplace.

2. General Store: Torch's general store caters to scavengers, artisans, and metalworkers first and foremost, but also carries plenty of gear sought by adventurers traveling through Numeria. The town's unique forge attracts plenty of traders to the local marketplace, some of whom bring rare items which storeowners like Inkrit Kollisun uses to stock their shelves. Most of the routine adventuring gear listed in the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook can be found here, but Inkrit leaves the sale of armor and weapons to the guildhouse artisans (see area 21).

3. Silverdisk Hall: This busy gambling house features many card tables and dice games, all played with the local silverdisk currency in exchange for whatever money travelers bring with them. Proprietor Garmen Ulreth runs the place, and is not-so-secretly assisted by a gang of Kellid thieves known as the Ropefists-a name derived from their practice of wrapping their knuckles with rope before using their fists to punish transgressors.

4. The Marrymaid: Given the frequent influxes of fortune-seeking scavengers and merchant caravans, the Marrymaid bordello opened its doors almost as soon as Torch established a successful economy. Wrennie Dalrorn oversees the entertainments inside.

5. The Copper Coin: One of the oldest taverns in Torch, the Copper Coin stands right on the western edge of town. This fixture nightspot fills up with patrons almost every evening, and it is especially popular with laborers and artisans looking to relax after a hard day's work. Siblings Lawton and Katina Rimos run the Coin as a quality establishment with good food at reasonable prices. In fact, much like their father, who ran the tavern for 30 years before passing away, they pride themselves on claiming everything costs 'just a few coppers." Lawton runs the kitchen, cooking up signature dishes like spiced lamb and lentil soup with sourdough bread. Katina tends bar, serving up popular drinks like Rusty Ale, Wineberry Mead, Steelforged Stout, and Black Hill Whiskey.

6. Garrison and Armory: A crenelated 30-foot tower rises from this squat barracks housing the town's active militia and guards. Approximately two dozen off-duty guards can be found here, with three times that number patrolling the marketplace and city streets during the day.

7. Olandir Estate: Serantha Olandir, the charismatic, influential leader of Torch's town council lives in this large home. She lost her husband 2 years ago to a back alley mugging by the Ropefists near Silverdisk Hall (see area 3). Since then, she's made it her mission to ensure Torch doesn't become a den of crime and corruption by taking a more direct hand in shaping its politics.

8. Otterbie Manor: One of the original founding families of Torch owns this expensive manor, built by an enterprising merchant and ex-crusader from Mendev named Orm Otterbie. He passed away several years ago and his granddaughter, Bazlundi Otterbie, inherited his legacy, successfully organizing many of the town's artisans and smithies into a powerhouse consortium. By controlling access to their services and coordinating a communal profit-sharing scheme between them, the Otterbies have become one of the more successful families in town.

9. Weeping Pond: This placid-looking pond is set off from the surrounding area by a crescent-shaped escarpment. No vegetation grows on the banks of this pond, and the waters carry a bitter stink of sulfur and other chemicals, enough to make the eyes water after spending too much time on the shore. The pond is fed by an underwater spring from under Black Hill, but no fish live in these waters.

10. Crowfeather Palace: The contaminated waters running from the Weeping Pond collect in Crowfeather Lake. Here the taint diffuses to the point where the water becomes drinkable, though it retains a brackish aftertaste. Until recently, long exposure to the water could still cause birth defects and strange afflictions, but since the creation of the strange-looking building here, these effects have been all but eradicated. Called Crowfeather Palace because of its proximity to the lake and its almost miniaturized palatial facade, the building is the brainchild of Khonnir Baine. With the aid of the local priesthood of Brigh, Khonnir built this facility to help purify the waters of Crowfeather Lake.

11. Market Square: The southern shore of Crowfeather Lake is the location of Torch's largest marketplace. This location draws nearly as much attention and tourism as does the flame, for it's here that the town's skilled artisans put their wares on display.

12. Foundry Tavern: One of the more popular hangouts in Torch, the Foundry Tavern is aptly named. Its owner, Khonnir Baine, makes frequent appearances to demonstrate new inventions here-whether mechanical or magical. The tavern itself is always packed, and Khonnir rents out space in his neighboring foundry for visiting smiths and metalworkers to use.

13. Tempting Tonics: This building is home to Jhestine Imierin, the town's apothecary and healer. She opened her apothecary shop to help the people of Torch deal with the tainted water from the Weeping Pond. Jhestine sells a variety of herbs and special substances, and now that Crowfeather Palace has made the waters of the lake drinkable, she's been able to turn her attention away from her original purpose to crafting all manner of other potions and elixirs for sale. Among numerous other concoctions, she currently offers a wide range of poisons, antitoxin, healing potions, and even a few technological pharmaceuticals.

14. Seven Tears Farms: Fertile fields and orchards line the stream near the southern side of town here. Before Crowfeather Palace, these farms had to rely upon the generosity of local churches for water purification, but now the fields are flourishing. The produce grown here feeds most of Torch, thanks to the owner of the farms, a matronly woman named Celda Veed.

15. Town Hall: One of the grander buildings in Torch, the town hall doubles as a second garrison and lookout tower watching over the eastern roads. Council meetings take place in the hall every week on Oathday, but the hall sees frequent use for social gatherings as well, including many dances held in the neighboring square.

16. Chapel of the Wanderer: A somber man named Mylan Radli retired here after the town's previous gravekeeper passed away. Along with the blessings he administers to those passing through Torch, he also conducts funerals and looks after the town's cemetery.

17. Temple of Brigh: Bronze wind chimes and clockwork statues decorate the domed portico of this compound dedicated to the goddess of invention. The oldest faith in Torch, Brigh's temple sees regular worship from many of the town's citizens, and also includes a meticulously organized workshop managed by the town's religious leader, Joram Kyte. His friendly demeanor, active interest in the metal trade, and innovative crafting skills helped land him a seat on the town council many years ago. Joram's temple includes a small shopfront selling magic items and gear.

18. Evercandle Inn: The name of this establishment refers to the strange alchemical candles used to light its rooms. These showpieces, which never diminish, are arrayed among multiple chandeliers in the common room as well as smaller, portable candlesticks by each bed in the individual chambers. Soceal Murgrave serves as the inn's proprietor, aided by her ever-present attendant Erlmon Reverstoudt.

19. Boarding House: The nine buildings surrounding this small park provide temporary housing for larger parties not wishing to stay at the more expensive inns in town. They see frequent use during the warmer seasons when their owner, Agren Maust, rents out rooms to scavengers, adventurers, and merchants seeking to do business in Torch for weeks at a time.

21. Warehouse District: The majority of the buildings in the northeast portion of town act as storehouses for
trade goods designed by the town's artisans.

22. Torch Guildhouse: This large building is home to the guild of metallurgists and artisans established by Bazlundi Otterbie. The guild was founded to support craftspeople in the skymetal trade, and the experts under its banner include several skilled armorers, blacksmiths, and weaponsmiths. The group always
keeps a few weapons for sale in their shop.

22. Dolga's Foundry: The sounds of ringing hammers and dwarven songs frequently rise from this busy foundry, which is owned and operated by Dolga Feddert and her team of veteran crafters. Dolga helped found Torch and became the first to test the unique properties of the flame erupting from the hilltop. She also constructed many of the first buildings in town, and is Torch's oldest councilor.

23. Junkyard: Unprofitable components and debris smelted for skymetal invariably find their way to Torch's junkyard on the east side of town. An eerie bleachling gnome named Garritt Burrwaddle received the honorary title of Junkmaster after several decades of obsessively collecting and cataloging the items left here. Aside from hauling away junk no one wants, he provides an invaluable service to those searching for spare parts among the debris in his care.

24. Black Hill: Easily the most recognizable landmark in Torch, this bald escarpment rises at a steep slope in the middle of town. Until recently, the town's namesake torch burned at the hill's peak, emerging from a 5-foot-wide hole in the ground. Today, the flame is out, the hole caved in and filled with bubbling, foul-smelling sludge. The four specially-designed adamantine carts used to ferry ore to and from the fire now stand a short distance down the hill near the Black Hill Craneworks-a building run by Smeltrunner Oskah Unteret. She coordinates access to the flame and ensures merchants pay the appropriate tribute to the town's treasury.

Sorry I've been silent - I lost my internet connection yesterday, and have been suffering withdrawal delerium until now. :P

I'll have an intro up sometime today (I have some work I need to do first).

Also, how in the heck do you pronounce Θ3Ξ5? I sense nicknames in the future...

Neuter NG Android Ranger 1//uRogue 1 | HP: 10/10 | AC: 15 (T: 13, F: 12) | CMB: +3, CMD: 16 | F: 13, R: 16, W: 13 | Init: +3 | Perc: +8, SM: -2 | Speed 30ft | Active conditions: None.

I'm still working on that intro post, but I figured I'd answer Valki's question.

It is known by several names. Its name it calls itself is Θ3Ξ5, but this can only be pronounced properly in Androffan and almost exclusively by androids. A few call it "Theta Three Xi Five" as this is the direct name of each character when its name is written in Common. Many call it "Othes" or "Othres" since that is what its name looks like when written in Common but limited to Taldan pronunciation. And some who know it familiarly call it "One" after its tendency to call itself "this one".

Like Takek, Valki Valka towered over most others, and when she entered the inn, she had no trouble spotting him. Pushing unceremoniously past those in her way with easy strength, she cleared a path to where he stood; what animosity her passage brewed was quickly stilled by the sight of the heavy sword and club she carried across her back, well-worn with frequent use. Her sword alone bore nearly as many nicks and dings as she did scars; unlike her scars, the nicks in her broad greatsword were not faded. The sword's nicks were new, and would soon disappear under meticulous whetting; the scars looked old.

Kellid in appearance, all furs, leather and mail, her long black hair held back by a fur-lined leather headband, her fierce nature was not dimmed by the manner in which she greeted her husband. Wrapping her arms around him from behind, she lifted him, armor, pack and all, off the ground and swung him about in a circle with a yell that briefly drew eyes. Planting him back on his feet, she punched his shoulder and smiled a lupine smile.

"More work done in Gorum's honor!" she announced, nodding to the innkeep before turning back to Takek. "But it was hardly worthy of our time. A dozen bandits? Bah! Next time, I will track down a quest that will bring honor to us, as well as to your god," she challenged. Takek knew full well that Gorum was also her god, but whenever she was dissatisfied, he became Takek's.

Edit: Othres it is! Thanks, Θ3Ξ5.

Θ3Ξ5 is a "native" to Torch. It was activated here and has continued to make the town its home. It spends a lot of time working with mercenaries guarding caravans and mining expeditions. When it is "home" it spends time with the temple of Brigh, questioning its existence, the why of its awakening, and what it can do to make a better world. It's spends some time in common rooms watching the humans and other humanoids, trying to figure out how to better be part of it all, how to better blend in.

The shrouded figure flows into the common room. Nearly every bit of the figure is covered, from its soft leather boots and gloves, to the hooded cloak. Its cloak hood pulled close around its face. A scarf wrapped tight around its lower face, covering everything from the bridge of its nose to the base of its neck. What can be seen by careful observers is the figure's silvery eyes, with their hints of orange, and its completely hairless forehead, with its lack of even eyebrows and a fine tracery of orange lines over its unnaturally pale skin.

The figure bears a rapier on one hip and a shortsword on the other. All of its gear well maintained and nearly silent as it moves. A dagger hilt protrudes from its boot cuff. A bow is carefully strapped to its pack which is neatly and carefully tied into its place. The figure's clothing is dark, and yet still natural in color.

As it strides to the bar, it gracefully moves through the crowd, dancing around the other occupants. When it reaches the bar, it stops with an unnatural stillness, for a moment looking akin to a statue. As the barkeep approaches, it suddenly cocks its head to the side. "Good evening to you good sir. This one will have an ale, please." Once the request is made, the figure ceases motion again and stands unmoving, the only sign of life its all too regular breathing.

When the barkeeper returns with the order, the figure, quite suddenly, begins moving in its graceful, dance-like, motions. "This one gives its thanks to you." It takes the offered mug and moves to a table at the edge of the room where it slowly drinks the ale and watches the assembled folk.

And here I was, thinking that, as soon as someone told her it was called Othes, she'd start referring to it as "Promises," or even just swearing in its general direction, and wondering why it didn't answer... ;-p

Takek's smile, if possible, grew broader, and he chuckled as his wife put him down and grumbled.

"A dozen bandits might have proved a challenge, were it only you and I guarding the caravan," he pointed out to her. "But as it was, the half-dozen who actually showed themselves did prove to be quite disappointing in their reaction to the five of us that were there, I will admit."

Takek would never accuse his wife of exaggerating. It was entirely possible - even probable - that the 6 bandits that had shown themselves on the road had had at least as many reinforcements hidden in the bushes and rocks nearby. That he hadn't seen them did not mean that Valki hadn't known they were there. She had, after all, been the one to charge after the fleeing five, after she'd cut the leader of them down with her sword, while the rest of the guards were still trying to figure out what had happened.

He sighed as he put one hand on her shoulder. "Perhaps the battle that Gorum blessed us with on this trip was the battle within ourselves - to find ways to make our minds grow stronger, and not give in to boredom." As usual, his smile came back almost instantly. "I am sure that you will do quite well in hunting down a proper challenge for us in the morning. For now though, this good innkeeper has found us a room available to rent this night."

If Θ3Ξ5, wants to have been in the room to witness this, that's cool. If he just walked in during the conversation, we can roll with that, too. :-)

Although the Evercandle Inn works just as well for Θ3Ξ5.

Θ3Ξ5: Maybe you were even one of the mercenaries Valki Valka and Takek were working with?
Takek: :P

"Gorum's lessons are too subtle," Valki Valka grumbled in what had to be the most unusual claim about Gorum heard locally. There was humor in her tone, though, and she grabbed Takek's head, leaning in to give him a strong kiss. "Reverstoudt! A fine room for my fine husband," she grinned, then slammed her hand on the bar, rattling all that stood on it. "But first, a strong drink to celebrate life. A round for us and our companions!" She peered at the shadowed face of Θ3Ξ5.

If Θ3Ξ5 was one of those companions:

"Othres. Will you drink with us?" Her tone was noticeably cooler, but not hostile; she shot a glance at Takek, as if to say, See? I have learned great tolerance of the unnatural.

Forgot to do a little rundown on Valki Valka:
Insisting that all but her husband and closest friends refer to her by her full name, Valki Valka is proud, and takes on life and any task with great gusto. Born to a Kellid tribe, she has their distrust of the "unnatural," but with her husband's guidance has learned to differentiate between actively harmful unnatural abominations and unnatural things that are actually convenient, even if she won't admit so. His teachings of Gorum resonate with her; to her, every foe is the right foe to destroy! She leaves nitpicky things like "who was on who's side" to Takek. For all that they take what work they can find, her deep blue eyes are ever fixed on one goal: the destruction of the Technic League.

That, to her, is the greatest enemy she can imagine - and thus the greatest honor is to be had in destroying it.

The adventure hasn't actually begun yet, though, right? This is just an intro, isn't it?

Not that VV would mind heading to a tavern!

I missed the Copper Coin thing, sorry. The only challenge with the Copper Coin for this scene is that it's a tavern, and not an inn. Our DM asked us to, "please post a bit about what you are doing in Torch when the game begins," and for some reason, I read that as "what are you doing the day before the adventure actually starts?" So that's my bad. But if today is the day before the adventure starts, Takek and Valki need a place to stay until then. Of course, eventually, Valki is going to realize that those are technological candles... ;-)

Takek smiled, and shook his head, appreciating his wife's gusto for all things in life. He managed not to smile when she offered the drink to their one-time companion and then looked back at him. It wouldn't do for her to think he was amused by her attempts to please him. Instead, he just nodded, approvingly.

I would suspect that it's safe to say (assuming Θ3Ξ5 is OK with it) that, even if it wasn't on this last trip, that the three of them have guarded a caravan or two together at least once. That at least gives a link between the three of us, and Θ3Ξ5's link to Rhangil would then connect at least 4 of us a little (and heck, Rhangil might have hired Takek and Valki once or twice, as well - maybe his caravan was the one that the three of us met on, depending on how long ago that would have been (either more than 2 years ago, or less than a month ago).) - so all we would have to do now is figure out where Felix fits in.

I know DM IRONlord was hopeful to start the game today. I thought our intro could dovetail into that if we were all in the right place anyway. May be overly nit-picky. ;)

That makes sense, and a good reason for some familiarity. Perhaps hired by Rhangil's family forge. I am, however, hard pressed to pull Felix into that bit of background though.

So, I simply copied and pasted from my initial chargen background before. Since then I have done some more critical thinking about the question of a name. I think "Oh Three Ee Five" might be more suitably pronounced "Othrev". Not sure.

Θ3Ξ5 stands and moves back to the bar. "This One would be pleased to join you in your revelry if you will have it. Thank you."

It cocks its head with a twitch, "If you fight against the Technic League as you did those bandits, this one is glad of your company."

That doesn't have to be cannon yet... The AP just assumes you've arrived in town for the reasons indicated in your campaign trait. The Evercandle is as good a place for you all to run into each other as the Copper Coin I suppose. Copper Coin just made a bit more sense to me for where a local character might be hanging out at. The opening isn't as railroaded as, for example, Wrath of the Righteous is. That being said, I want to start you all in the same place so we don't have to spend weeks of meandering RP just to get the most basic elements rolling.

That said, be aware of these facts that you will have become aware of when you arrive/return to Torch.

1: The violet flame that has burned atop Black Hill for over a century has gone out, leaving a strangely seeping pit of rubble and bubbling fluids where the town's livelihood once glowed day and night.

2: Ever since Councilor Khonnir Baine, one of Torch's more powerful wizards and a well-liked individual, went missing on his second expedition under Black Hill, the citizens of the nervous town have edged closer to outright panic. With their hands full handling the growing refuse and waste problems in town now that their primary disposal method is gone, the town council is eager
to find out what happened to Khonnir and rescue him.

3: Khonnir Baine discovered the signs of unusual traffic on the banks of Weeping Pond, and shortly thereafter, the submerged tunnel that provides access to several heretofore unknown tunnels under Black Hill. His emergence from the caves with a deactivated semi-humanoid automaton sparked worries that something strange might be going on in the caverns, but when he failed to return from his second expedition a few days ago, those worries turned to outright fear. Several other adventuring parties have gone missing in the caves, and Torch finds itself running short on new volunteers.

I hope to get this rolling after I get home from work tonight. Hopefully Felix and Rhangil can get a post in before then.

So, the Evercandle may be a better choice. It is an Inn, not just a tavern, so out of towners may be seeking rooms. (And if I remember what I've heard of the AP, one of the other Inns (The Foundry) is closed as the proprietor is missing (Khonnir Baine).) Also, it's near the temple of Brigh, another of Θ3Ξ5's haunts.

That actually helped me a lot. I wasn't sure exactly what had happened in terms of pre-plot set up so I was having a bit of trouble coming up with ideas of what he'd be doing.

Rhangil, having heard through the grapevine that the towering Kellid duo have returned to Torch, is scouring the town looking for them. Following the gossip in town he walks into the Evercandle, his tail flicking curiously.

"Takek! Valki!" Rhagnil walks up to them and Othrev, who he hasn't noticed yet, his tail flicking back and forth excitedly. "I heard you were back in town and ... Notices Othrev. Hi! Othrev, I didn't notice you there. Turns back to Takek and Valki. I heard you were back and town and wanted to hear about your travels! Maybe over a drink or two."

Takek gave Rhangil a welcoming smile. "As it turns out, you have excellent timing, master Vesperin. My wife was just looking for a set of ears to regale with tales of our latest adventure!"

Technically, the Forge is a tavern, not an inn, from the description. But now who's being nit-picky? ;-) The 'Candle it is, and we'll just make our poor DM roll with it. :-p

Eyeing the the newcomer, and after a moment, probably longer that most would take, a look of recognition passes over Θ3Ξ5's smooth face. "The telling of stories is an interesting past time, this one wishes it were better at it. For now let us listen to Mistress Valka regale us of the tale."

You are correct, so much for reading comprehension tonight. ;)

Satisfied with Takek's acknowledgement of her great sacrifice, and reasonably pleased with Θ3Ξ5's response, Valki Valka raised the cup pushed into her hand to Θ3Ξ5, and was about to take a drink when Rhangil entered and addressed them.

"I am Valki Valka," she proclaimed, shooting Rhangil and "Othrev" a dark look that immediately lightened into one of welcome. "And my Husband is almost correct. Our latest adventure was nothing to speak of. A paltry number of desperate vagabonds we drove off." She sniffed, then leaned forward conspiratorially, setting her cup on the bar. "It is our next adventure of which I wish to speak."

"The loss of the Torch is not the blessing I would have thought," she began, not adding that it wasn't mainly because she wasn't responsible for it. All things were relative, as her husband was fond of saying. "The loss of Khonnir Baine, no one would count a triumph. No one here," she qualified with a scowl.

"Thus, we will thwart Them by rescuing Khonnir Baine," she said with satisfaction. Those who knew her, knew that They were the Technic League, her pet obsession.

Valki Valka threw back her drink, slammed down the cup, and called for another round. "I know what you will say, Takek. We may not accomplish this task alone. For greater certainty, if lesser honor," she sighed mournfully, "we may form a group to go after him. What think you of THAT tale, Rhangil?" She raised her chin proudly, smug with the prospect of challenge to be overcome, honor to be had, and a great foe to tweak the nose of. At least, in her mind.

It's past midnight here, and I'll be turning in soon, so don't be too upset if Valki Valka doesn't answer any responses immediately. ;)

Felix waits until after the press of people leaves the bar before she approaches the gathered adventurers. He had been sitting in a far corner alone and repeatedly ordering cups of hot water. If one had observed him closely, the tightly-wrapped gnome produced pinches of dried leaves and sprinkled them into the steaming mug. The tea was a combination of mutated plants he had found through Numeria and he suspected that they helped to abate his illness. And the caffiene didn't hurt, since he was trying to stay alert for a moment like this.

"Good evening, Valki Valka." he begins, suddenly conscious of his appearance and interruption of her story. "Good evening to you all. My apologies for interrupting. My name is Felix Nimbledigit and I would like to join in any expedition to find Khonnir Baine."

Felix is almost completely covered, wearing a long black rob, boots, and gloves. Even his head is mostly hidden by a heavy hood, his mouth and nose covered by a dark silk scarf that muffles his voice. His startling blue eyes are the only part of him that are exposed. Even though he stands only to the waists of his impressively-statured companions, his iron-shod quarterstaff and a dizzying amount of pouches and bottles of alchemical ingredients imply a competent adventurer.

A huge grin crosses Rhangil's face, if it weren't for the look in his eyes people would find it creepy. "Sounds like a marvelous story, Valki! But as long as the Torch gets re-lit all else is secondary."

"It's no secret, I'm afraid," Felix explains. "Simply put: my skin does not love the sun."

Wow, looks like you guys did a lot of the heavy lifting for me. I'll get started on the opening post pronto.

Ack, Felix, I'm going to need you to put your character info on your profile ASAP.

Alright, I'm going to take a few liberties here to establish the scene. Valkki, Takek and Othres were all on guard duty for an expedition that Rhangil was a part of, and have just returned to Torch in the earlier today, in the afternoon. Felix, you arrived in town the day before, which would give you enough to time to learn the basic info presented.

Everyone carry on in the gameplay thread!

"Valki Valka," Valki Valka corrected him with a scowl. She wasn't sure re-lighting the Torch would be a part of finding Khonnir, but there was no reason to argue about it now.

"Arguments," for Valki Valka, often meant "brawling."

I'm a little unsure that this conversation has taken place, what with what DM IRONlord has mentioned. I'll hold off on further replies until he clarifies.
