Tirion Jörðhár |
Tirion looks at the deserted camp.
You all should look at the bottom of the gorge. Amongst the shattered stones of the bridge should be the body of a green dragon, several hill giants, a few ogres, and a pile of hobgoblins, for you goblin lovers.
Lorth Blood-Seer |
Making no attempt to hide himself as he realises the folly of it, Lorth stands and lets those that are more free of movement search and confirm. He does peer into the gorge at Tirion's request, expecting that the broken bodies by now would be teeming with decomposition and roiling with vermin.

1d20 ⇒ 11
1d20 ⇒ 9
Bofus Beerswizzler |
On an impulse, Bofus takes out an Eye of the Dragon and peers through it to look at the bottom of the gorge.
Tomkin the Doughty |
Tomkin looks down and winks at Bofus.
"Bofus, is that goblin holding a broken staff of the magi? Wouldn't you have taken that first
? I guess it didn't survive the fall."
Some paladins have a sense of humor.
Mirrin of The Deep |
Oh crap...
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Know nature.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25 Know Dungeoneering.
"That's cause something bloody ate it." Mirrin said emerging from the bushes. "Something big. We camp elsewhere and try not to look like a bloody buffet."
Note about the map: There's a large sized griffon with the group.
Tirion Jörðhár |
Tirion looks down in the gorge as well.
Hmmm, pretty sure it was there when we left a few weeks ago. If something actually ate it, without even leaving any bones, I do not think that I really want to meet whatever it was.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
"Bofus, is that goblin holding a broken staff of the magi? Wouldn't you have taken that first
? I guess it didn't survive the fall."
Are you kidding?!?! I'd have grabbed it out of his hand on his way down!!
At Mirrin's proclamation... Something et the dragon?? holy crap. Yeah, let's bugger off. My only hope would be that I'm too small a bite to bother with!
DM Harpwizard |
Bofus, which color dragon eye are you using to look down into the gorge?
DM Harpwizard |
Old Warklegnaw, the forest giant you once visited, lived near Vraath keep. You would need to cross Skull Gorge and travel south along the Dawnway to find his house and find out his story. Even though you have not seen him in over a month, after the battle of Brindol, you did hear reports of a large clan of forest giants that attacked the Red Hand Horde as they came through the Witchwood. You heard that the giants delivered a deadly blow to the Red Hand, but in the end the giants were defeated by the Red Dragon, Abithriax. You do not know if Old Warklegnaw survived or not.
DM Harpwizard |
Suddenly, the ground rumbles and a huge armor plated creature emerges from a hole in the ground. Its toothy maw reveals a large collection of dagger sharp teeth.

DM Harpwizard |
Tirion Jörðhár |
After saying a few gnomish words which the board censor would assuredly scramble, Tirion calls upon his dragonic heritage to impede the creature and allow the rest of the party to prepare themselves.
Cast Glitterdust - centered at AI45/AJ46, right in the middle of the beast. The intention is that the row just south of the bulette is not affected so that party members can move in.
Should affect AI44-47 - AJ44-47 - AH45,46 - AK45,46
DC18 Will or blind
Tirion then moves back to AQ48 to get away from the monstrosity.

AoO
As the Hippogriff approaches the bulette, the monstrous creature swings its head around and bites at it.
Bite: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Damage: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 6) + 9 = 22
The hippogriff, Bites, (Is Bites a relation to Lulu the previous hippogriff of the party?) moves up to the bulette and drives its claws into the armored land shark. (2 claws and 1 rake hit!)
Mirrin, can you kindly explain to me why Bites gets a full round attack on a charge. What exactly is a ling assisted leap?

Lorth Blood-Seer |
It won't let me see the map at work, so I'm doing this blind - but hopefully it will still work. Let me know if anything needs to be adjusted.
Round 1: HP 78/78, AC 26
Beset by the monstrous beast Lorth draws his curved blade as he moves forward. Clashing his weapon against the sunburst that adorns his shield he intones "Cum luce ignis ardebit" and both blade and shield begin to warmly glow with an ochre tint remeniscent of a dawn's first emergence over the horizon.
Drawing near to the bulette Lorth leads with his sheild to give some protection against stray claws before sliding around it and striking with a heavy armed rising slash with his scimitar...
Swift action to engage Sacred Armor (for extra +1 on Armor - up to +2) expending 1 fervor to engage Sacred Weapon (for extra +2 on Scimitar - up to +4)
Can move up to 20ft (drawing weapon along the way), and if that gets me close enough I will attack:

Out of Initiative
Tomkin the Doughty |
Tomkin quickly hops on top of the creature and climbs to the top as if he is looking for a place to plant a flag.
"That was fun!! Except for the biting part."
"Can we harvest the corpse for the famous armor? I once met a dwarven knight with bulette armor. He said it was the best!!!"
Bofus Beerswizzler |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Bofus is a bit taken aback at the ferocity and effectiveness of his new friends.
Wow. Looks like you guys really dodged a bulette there. Except for you, Tommy--that looks painful.
do these things have lairs, or are they known to swallow treasure we can take out of their stinky guts??
DM Harpwizard |
Tomkin the Doughty |
"I have no skill at skinning. Can you do it?"
Tom looks hopefully at the ranger.
He talks philisophically.
"My job is to take the hits! Are we going below or overland?"
Tirion Jörðhár |
Tirion glances over the cliff edge.
We have little time fro detours. However, if this bulette has treasure in its lair, then there is no reason that we should leave it behind. I think that at the least we should search this quickly. And then proceed onward to find this dragon lord and turn him into a skinned lizard.
'Poppy' - Calliope |
"I can see where THIS conversation is going" remarks the small flying angel.
Red simply raises an eyebrow, part confirmation, part thanks.
Poppy zips into the hole to begin investigating.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Well, there are three holes. I kind of doubt that anything else would be living in any of these--should we split up to search faster?
DM Harpwizard |
'Poppy' - Calliope |
"I think I found the second Eye of the Red Dragon - didn't want to play down there alone though!"
She leads back a couple of party members in case the areas is trapped or dangerous.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Ha! Great! If that's true, then there's only one left!
Bofus follows Poppy to the lair, keeping his normal eye out for traps. Once there, he'll use an eye to look through and see if the gem in the lair behaves the same way as the others have in the past.
