Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Does anyone get flanking bonuses at this point? We have the dragon surrounded and while nobody is directly "opposite"? I believe that Thordak and Red should both get flanking bonuses. the rule reads:

When making a melee attack, you get a +2 flanking bonus if your opponent is threatened by another enemy character or creature on its opposite border or opposite corner.
.
When in doubt about whether two characters flank an opponent in the middle, trace an imaginary line between the two attackers' centers. If the line passes through opposite borders of the opponent's space (including corners of those borders), then the opponent is flanked.
.
Exception: If a flanker takes up more than 1 square, it gets the flanking bonus if any square it occupies counts for flanking.

My read is that Red in square Q/-8 flanks with every square occupied by Thordak.

----

Also, Thordak has dragons and goblins as Favored Enemies. He actually has both at +2, one should be +4.

Thus, with flanking and FE:

Red Attack 1: 27
Damage: 23

Thordak Attack 1: 27
Damage: 25

Thordak Attack 2: 24
Damage: 23

Thordak Attack(haste): 34
Damage: 20

I believe this will add 2 hits, and 48 damage. Something that I think we need right now.

-----

THORDAK - fix your FE. Either dragon or goblin should be +4. You get to choose a new FE at +2 at level 5, but also to increase a FE, including the one just chosen, by +2. <-- don't mean to be shouting, but this could be very important in this fight and going forward. Not sure if DMHW will let you correct this in the battle though.
EDIT - also, Thordak. Favored Terrain works the same way. Either Plains or Urban should be +4 at this point.

With a dagger sharp look of anger in the eyes, Abithriax suddenly realizes its life has been cut short. With its dying breaths it utters one final threat,

As a note, all of us have Resist Energy(fire)/20 and/or Protection from Fire, so we should be pretty immune to burning unless we actually get buried in the flames.

Also, Mantooth, Red and Thordak are all size large, which should help greatly with the amount of water than can be moved.

I only have a few minor spells left. I can make a few of the guards larger to help carrying water, but that is about it.

Tirion will use Ray of Frost to attempt to zap any hot spots in the fire to help extinguish it.

Hopefully this will give Thordak or someone else a bonus on their survival rolls.

Assuming the pattern of 2 per dragon color holds, we're missing 1 red, 1 blue. and, I didn't intend to hide that I was taking the dragon's stuff, just YOINKing it to shar later. I would not interrupt or impede Tirion's Detect Magic/Identification attempts in any way.

As Tirion casts his spell, Bofus holds out a ring and an amulet he seems to have taken from the dragon. Make it fast, shorty--we've got fires to fight!!

Dungeon Master

Thordak and Poppy are most effective at fire fighting and with the rest of the heroes assisting them, they are able to effectively put out several fires, preventing a great fire from spreading throughout the city.

Upon completion of your work, Tirion hears a telepathic communication from Lord Jarmaath.

The High Lord of Brindol

Tirion:
"Tirion, Congratulations on taking down Abithriax. Your heroics will not be forgotten!

Isolated skirmishes are still occurring in the city, but the are becoming fewer in number. For the moment, the horde is retreating back to the wall, but I fear Wyrmlord Kharn is still preparing a final attack. I am taking advantage of this lull to regroup with my men back at Cathedral square. I am almost there. Join me as soon as possible and we can discuss . . . ."

Suddenly the communication is abruptly cut off. Something seems wrong.

Dungeon Master

As you race back to Cathedral Square, you hear outcries of alarm, screaming, and the sounds of dozens of armored soldiers running. When you reach the square, you find the place in chaos as soldiers scramble toward the Cathedral of Peace Through Vigilance. One of the Brindol Lions approaches you quickly.

"Lord Jarmaath has just fallen to a sniper's arrow, fired from somewhere on the eastern side of Cathedral Square. Norrow Wiston and three more of his personal aides fell to the sniper's shots before we managed to bring the Lord away to safety. The Lord is unconscious, but we've brought him inside the Cathedral and the clerics are with him now. Before he fell to the arrow, he told us that we need to be organizing ourselves for the final battle. Ulverth has tried organizing us, but everytime we've tried to approach the eastern side of the Cathedral Square, another person drops dead. Seven dead now lie the street bearing silent witness to the assassin's deadly accuracy. The troops are becoming demoralized and we are not getting any closer to preparing for the last battle. Can you help take out this sniper?! He's shooting from one of the buildings down Everlight Avenue. This would help Ulverth prepare us for our final battle!"

Tirion looks to the others.

I have little magic left. I can cast a few magic missiles which might be able to damage the archer and possibly trip him. I need to be within about 180' for them to work. I could fire from a few hundred feet, but could not trip the archer then.

I also have my wand of magic missiles. Not quite as good as mine, but it has a number of shots left.

The thief nods in approval. Make sure you let us know right away if you find him. Might be magically hidden.

He then draws his own bow, and immediately makes for the door.

I'll be in touch.

Bofus scurries into the streets, heading straight toward Everlight Avenue (he's made enough excursions that he knows exactly where this is).

Once he nears the street, he flits through shadows, scoping the area, trying to find the best spots for a sniper to be shooting from.

Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Perception: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

Dungeon Master

Bofus maneuvers down Everlight Avenue, stealthy as the master thief he is. He passes several corpses on the street, struck down by arrows. As he looks around, he sees no evidence of the sniper's hiding spot. There are many buildings where the villain could be hiding out and shooting from, but at the moment, you cannot pinpoint that location.

Bofus, you may retry both stealth and perception as you search the street. A poor stealth check on your part may help reveal the sniper when he tries to take you out. But naturally this has a great deal of risk in it as well. If you choose to be less stealthy, please let me know.

I would like to examine an arrow and see if there is any kind of identifier--how it's made, workmanship, names inscribed, that sort of thing :-)

Dungeon Master

Bofus retrieves one arrow piercing a fallen soldier. From a hidden location he examines it carefully. It is clearly a masterwork arrow. The feathers on the tail are a shadowy black. The arrow tip is engraved with a letter S on it, and has three blades coming to a point. The arrow tip smells hideous as if there was some kind of deadly poison on it.

(A knowledge, nature check may reveal more about the poison.)

Bofus hunts around the street in the shadows of the setting sun. The halfling remains hidden, but so does his target.

Bofus, you are welcome to keep looking, but I will require more stealth and perception checks as you do so.
