hey, whose not so wise?!?!
Wait a minute--wait for my all-clear. Dragons are smart and clever, could be trapped!
check for traps, with Draogn's Eye.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38
Assuming I find no traps, I'll . . . how do we get down the hle, anyway? Is it just a hole, or can we take the stairs?
DMHW: Can someone actually get on the roof of this place? I want to keep an eye out for an approaching big black lizard.
DM Harpwizard |
The level you are on is actually the roof. There is no ceiling. The hole in the western room drops about twenty feet into a larger chamber that also has a corresponding hole in the floor that opens into the dark waters of the lake below. It clearly would allow access for a dragon to enter and exit the building both into the sky and into the water.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
OK, I'm pretty sure the stairs are clear. so, how do you guys wanna habndle this? I mean, these ogres were probably here ot guard the dragon's den. He's going to know something amiss when his guards are suffering from a bad case of dead. I mean, this is his home turf; the only way we could get an advantage would be . . .
I put my chin in my hand, thinking hard.
DMHW--structurally speaking, how is this building?? Considering the skills at my disposal--both mine, and my companions--could there be a way to juryrig something to block the hole we're looking at? Meaning, if the dragon were to fly into the hole in the roof, could we block the hole to the lake to surprise him? it wouldn't have to be a perfect block, just enough floatsam to slow him down, make it not feasable to clear it away while a paladin is smiting his evil?
DM Harpwizard |

There is certainly a great deal of rubble around. The roof has several piles of old rock and the structure itself is not in great shape. However, that being said, the town hall has survived for centuries and rock is not easily moved. As I think about it, the issue is one mostly of time. You have a small window of opportunity right now, but moving and filling in holes with rubble could take a long time. I guess I am not clear what you could fill the hole with. Furthermore, you have not actually had much of an opportunity to explore what the large chamber with the hole in the floor looks like. At the moment, you are not seeing anything to juryrig the hole, but you may find something yet.
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Alright folks, I want to take advantage of the time we have here. Trellara, keep a keen eye out for an approaching dragon, won't you luv? I'm going down to scope out this place. Thordak, why don't you and Tirion come down too-we cna put our heads together and see if we can't lay a trap for our dragon friend!!
I want to see if we can engineer some sort of deadfall or similar trap-like device that might impede the dragon from siply diving down the hole. We don' tneed to block it completely, just enough to slow him down and make escape out that hole not the best option while getting stabbed, savvy??
DM Harpwizard |
There is nothing but rubble on the roof. What you really need is a net to cover the hole. I would entertain the idea of creating something with some rope, but you have very little to work with for materials on the roof. Collapsing walls and pulling out structural supports would take a great deal more time. How much time do you want to invest in this endeavor?
Who goes down what stairs? Marching order please!
Trellara Nightshadow |
"Alright folks, I want to take advantage of the time we have here. Trellara, keep a keen eye out for an approaching dragon, won't you luv?"
"I can keep an eye out for the dragon for you, Bofus, but what should I do if I see it? Should I come running down the stairs to tell you or should I simply shout out a warning? I am still worried about the Wyrmlord catching us! I'm also not fond of the idea of being left up here all alone."
Bofus Beerswizzler |
Maybe Mantooth would stay with you; I don't know that he has much of a mind for engineering anyway. I'd not shout if I were you--come down and warn us straight away if you see it!
A rope net-type device, I'm not so sure about. I mean, these buggers are strong. It could probalby just fly through it, ripping it to shreds on the way. We need something that will slow it down enough to prevent it from trying to use the hole as escape.
Wait a minute--THAT'S IT!!!
*whisper* Wait a minute--THAT'S IT!!! Hehehehehe!! I start to rub my hands together gleefully, talking faster in my excitement of a Very Clever Plan. We don't need something that will stop the dragon from going down--we need something that will make the dragon *decide* not to go down!! If we lay out something that clearly LOOKS like a trap, maybe that will be enough to prevent him from going down that way!! What do you guys think?!?!
I'll start heading down the stairs, quietly. *whisper* don't come down until I give the all clear, OK? Maybe that wyrmlord is hiding in here!

"That will be fine, Bofus. If that is what you need me to do, then I'll do it, but make sure you come and get me if I can be of any further help to you."
Turning to the paladin, she asks, "Sir Mantooth, will stay on watch with me?"

ROUND 1
Delay until friends arrive, hoping for a flank!! As soon as someone gets in there, he gets more stabbity action.
DM Harpwizard |
Thordak if you read Haste it says that you only get an extra attack only if you are dong a full attack action. This is also true when you use your multiple attacks from your extra Base Attack Bonus. You may take a 5 foot step and still do a full round attack. However, if you plan on moving up to 20 feet (30 if you are under haste) in a round, you may only make a single attack. If you want to move double that movement it is called a double move and you get no attacks. From what I am seeing with running down the staircase past your friend Tirion, you may not even be able to get a single attack in.
This is where you were standing upstairs Rhest Town Hall Roof Level .
This is where I have the battle right now. Rhest Town Hall Lower Level
Tirion Jörðhár |
It looks like Thordak can take a 5'foot step and simply attack the ettin. Unless there are walls next to the steps. It is unclear from the map. Or he can delay and let Bofus move aside.
If the Haste is still in effect, then he can move 40' and should be able to go past me I would think.
Edvard Zamoyski |
Sick kids, man-flu and crappy internet connectivity is rife at present, so will remain intermittent throughout holiday timeframe.
Edvard follows the sound of battle and while remaining out of the Ettin's reach (if possible), seeks to warp it's perception and force it to false moves.
Evil eyes - DC 17 Will saves for 7/1 rounds of -2.
Target Attacks, then AC for rounds 2/3.
If he can't do that, then he'll remain out of harms reach for now.
I'd follow Tirion on the staircase in the D row.
DM Harpwizard |
Mark, I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself!
Round 2
• Mantooth moves down the stairs past Tirion and prepares to attack the two headed giant!
• Thordak moves to E14 and swings his axe at the ettin striking him for a blow that the creature cannot ignore.
• The Ettin makes a full round attack against the dwarf.

DMHW: Sorry I didn't put it in my title bar, but Thordak actually has a +4 dodge bonus against all giants. A nimbly bimbly dwarf indeed!
