DMHW:
Could I not simply open the door a crack and slip out, then secure it from the outside? on spikes: well, i was under the impression that skill checks such as Disable Device took care of the more mundane aspects of the action you were undertaking: maybe I was able to jam a wire into the hinges, or break the hinges, or use a small rock to jam the door . . honestly, I don't have the first idea how a skilled thief would rig a door shut, but Bofus is very good at it!

if you'll allow it, I'll simply walk out the palisade (move action to open the door, 5' step out, move action to shut) this round, disable it next round, then climb up on round 4 and do more havoc. I'm hoping that my mad skilz + invisibility + the distraction of combat will allow me to do that without too much difficulty?

Dungeon Master

Bofus:
You could certainly enter the eastern door into the lower level of the main outpost, which you have never been in. It is clearly the same dimensions as the top of the tower and you certainly know there are two ladders in the tower that lead down into that lower room. Furthermore, once you are in that room, you believe you could exit out the north door. Yes this is all very reasonable. However, at the moment, you do not know what awaits you behind those doors. Just let me know what you decide to do.

And your right. Bofus would know how to block those doors. I have this bad habit of getting bogged down in details. If you could let me know how he does it, I would be pleased so I wouldn't have to make it up! I gotta go! Have a great weekend! :-)

Round 3

Thordak loads his crossbow and fires off two deadly shots at the goblins in the tower almost as fast as lightining.

Crossbow:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

Damage:1d10 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Crossbow:1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

Damage:1d10 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 46/46 - AC19;FF16;T17 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Ouch.

Thordak, how are you getting +8 on the damage? I see +4 from favored enemy, but am not sure what other bonuses apply. You are too far for point blank shot to help.

Also, check your favored enemy's. You have both Human and Goblinoid listed. One of these should be +2 and the other +4, not both +4. You gained goblinoid at level 1, +2, I assume, and then took human, +2, at level 5. At level 5, you were also allowed to increase one of these by an additional +2, not sure which one you chose, but it should not be both. Thus one should be +2 and the other +4.

Ablative barrier: 6 hours remaining, +2 AC, convert first 5 damage of any hit to non-lethal.
Flight hex: 6 rounds remaining of first minute (60ft good maneuverability)
burning gaze: round 3/6 - can spend std action to damage target within 30ft

Seeing that the foolish goblinoids have not seen the folly of their positioning, Edvard narrows his focus and wills his form to rise...
Fly: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 11 + 4 = 31
...managing to quell his tension and rise above the crenellations on the battlement and spy the top of the guardhouse. Touching right hand to the second top iron band on his staff he chants in Elvish "De fer froid, l'air est séparé ... et la mort est né!" Elvish - From cold iron, the air is parted... and death is born!"

As he chants, he draws his right hand away from the staff and an arc of lightning forms and starts to build in intensity. His muscles tense as the energy in the arc builds ever higher before at the completion of his chant he thrusts his right hand forward and releases the energy towards the hobgoblins all in a row. A peal of thunder accompanies the white hot bolt of lightning that streaks across the top of the tower and plays across the forms of the goblinoids within it's ruinous path...

Fly straight up 10ft? to get a clear line of sight and fire across the top of the tower.
Hobgoblin that was burning gazed might still be on fire (1d6 ⇒ 2 fire if it is).
Lightning bolt directed straight across the front of the tower, due West of Edvard - should hit four hobgobs, and maybe the one on the ladder.
6d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 1, 6, 2) = 21 electric damage Reflex DC 17 for half.

You enter in through the east entrance into the palisade where you see two ogres, 8 hobgoblins and 2 bladebearers. They appear armored and ready to attack anything that enters. However, they do not appear to notice you, yet.

Inside Palisade

And does anyone know who the Flying Dutchman is up there?

Bofus you successfully disable the door to the eastern courtyard. Fire and smoke starts to come in from the ceiling. After the ogres and the hobgoblins flee south, three enter from the western courtyard and take up positions in the stockade.

• Mutamba runs away fleeing into the woods to the southwest.
• Edvard flies to R13 and uses his burning gaze upon already toasting hobgoblin at O15.

Round 4

Seeing the creatures emerge from the fort, Tirion quickly moves back to AA22 and casts another Web to slow them down.

@DMHW - it is hard to tell. I need at least 2 surfaces to attach the web to. I assume the building and one of the trees should work. I would like to attach it to the two trees, the edge of the green pictures appears to be about 45' apart, I do not know whether they would actually be larger (a 10' round tree is pretty small) and able to be used. I would like to center the Web at U15/V16. If this does not work, then whereever it will get the most closer to the fort & one tree.

Move to AA22.

Standard Action: Cast Web at U15/V16. DC17 reflex or stuck. Difficult terrain and must make a reflex save each square to move.

Round 5:
Ablative barrier: 6 hours remaining, +2 AC, convert first 5 damage of any hit to non-lethal.
Flight hex: 4 rounds remaining of first minute (60ft good maneuverability)
burning gaze: round 5/6 - can spend std action to damage target within 30ft

Fly: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 11 + 4 = 26

Edvard sees that greater prey has presented itself, and puts the hobgoblin remaining on the burning roof to a slow death. Floating like a avenging reaper above the heads of the savages, he reaches within his clothes and retrieves a dessicated wolf's paw. Holding the paw to his neck he chants "Le tourment iront dans les vagues de l'agonie" Elvish - The torment will flow in waves of agony before starting to howl in an unearthly and ethereal voice.

As he howls he draws the wolf's paw across his neck, leaving bloody trails of shallow cuts where the claws part his skin. Applying his focus to the pain at his neck and the strain of his voice - he transposes the sensation, allowing it to flow downwards and wash over the ogres and hobgoblins...

Move to S,15 at a height where I'm safe from the Ogre's reach (I think 25ft).
Cast howling agony DC 17 Fort save for six targets - both ogres, both bladebearers and the hobgoblins in R,15 and T,15

Howling Agony:
School necromancy [death, pain]
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: one living creature/level, no two of which can be more than 30 ft. apart
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates; Spell Resistance yes

You send wracking pains through the targets' bodies. Because of the pain, affected creatures take a –2 penalty to AC, attacks, melee damage rolls, and Reflex saving throws, and must succeed at a concentration check (DC equal to the DC of this spell) to cast spells. However, if an affected creature spends a move action screaming as loudly as possible, it can act without any other penalties for the remainder of its turn. “Screaming,” for the purposes of this spell, includes any vocalization of pain or its telepathic equivalent; creatures that cannot scream (such as creatures without the natural ability to communicate or vocalize) suffer the full effect of the spell.

ROUND 5

DMHW:
A limitation of PBP; I guess I dind't understand the situation. My intention was to disable the door the ogres/hobbies just escaped from; I thought there was only one door out. Meh.

Are the 3 new hobbies on ground level, or up on the tower/pallisade?

I'll climb to the top of the wall separating the eastern "room" from the main, central area of the pallisade. Then I'll draw my bow, intending to shoot one of the three new hobbies in the neck next round--and maybe have another nice surprise for them!

Climb: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 43 ⇒ (16) + 43 = 59 <--still invisible, but not for long

*whisper* There's three more hobbies here, I'll take them out then come out to help you all! Stay alive . . .

Round 5

Staying behind the tree, Mantooth levels his crosbow on one of the hobgoblins W17 and takes a shot.
Crossbow Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 +6 BAB, +1 Dex
Crossbow Damage 1d10 ⇒ 10

Once the bolt is released, Mantooth will drop it by the tree and draw his sword.

Dungeon Master

This was a difficult post to write. It took me about 1.5 hours. Let me know if I made any mistakes. Tirion, please put web in URL brackets for me. I always need to look up the details.

Round 4

• Tirion moves to AA22 and casts another web spell centered at U15/V16.

T15 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Round 5

•Bofus :
Sorry about the misunderstanding. It is difficult, especially since there are two levels to the palisade tower. You are inside the one room in the outpost. This is the ground level. There are double doors on the north side and south side. Single doors on the east and west side. There are two ladders in this room that lead to the roof of this building which is already beginning to burn. The main battlemat shows the roof and and the surrounding landscape. The battlemat that I send you is the inside of this building. There are currently three hobgoblins in this chamber with you. Nobody is able to see this. You are invisible and they do not appear to notice you. You have already disabled the eastern door. It is now locked shut. To go into the eastern room, you will need to disable that door. To trap these hobgoblins in here, you will need to disable the north, south and western doors. I am not clear where you wish to go to shoot these hobgoblins. The room you are in is enclosed. There are four walls and a burning ceiling. You can certainly climb the walls, but you cannot get on top of them from inside of this room.

• Mantooth aims his crossbow and fires at one of the charging hobgoblins (W17) and hits. The humanoid is badly wounded, but he still lives.
• Edvard flies to S15, still hovering in the air about 25 feet above the ground, where he casts howling agony upon 6 of the fiends. These are indicated with an orange halo.

Not really sure whether they get AoO if I am invisible.

I think it is a DC20 Perception (with a -20 modifier for being invisible) check to pinpoint my location, and then they can make an AoO. If they do pinpoint me, then I also have total concealment, so they would have a 50% miss chance.

Not sure how DMHW will work this out with all those rolls, but you can only make a cleave (or great cleave) attack if you are making a single attack as a standard action. Thus, you have to choose whether to make a standard attack + cleave, or a full attack (with haste extra attack). Since the Haste gives you essentially three attacks Full BAB, Full BAB, BAB-5, then I think the Full Attack is better. You do not get the full attack + haste + cleave although it would be nice - sorry.

Unfortunately, Tirion is right. Cleave is a standard action, so you get to take only one attack, plus your cleave if your first hits. You're better off taking a full attack, for the 2+haste.

Flight hex: 0 rounds remaining of first minute (60ft good maneuverability)
Haste - +1 AC and +30ft speed - until end rd 13

Seeing the small one moving into a position to strike, Edvard subtly shifts his position to favor him... while continuing a fusillade of staff blows born more of anger than skill...

5ft float/step to S,14 - I should count as flanking for Bofus
Full attack on R,14 - from an elevated position.
Staff: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 14 for 1d6 ⇒ 3
Staff: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 12 for 1d6 ⇒ 4

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 46/46 - AC19;FF16;T17 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Round 9

I move back to see whether I can help the boys now that they have finished with the big folk. Seeing the two archers fleeing, I stop at Z17 and cast Shocking Grasp at Y37 hobgoblin.

As I prepare to cast, I shout: The hand of good shall crush the Red Hand. Bwhahaha.

Attack-Touch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 <-- +3 more if in metal armor or wielding a metal weapon
Damage: 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 3, 4) = 22 <-- no save versus shocking grasp
--> Range with Spectral Hand is 160'

Whisper - Flying man, can you get those two fleeing vermin?

Andoran

Male Halfling Thief/9 Init: +12 HP: 53/53 AC: 28 Touch: 19; Perception 15 (19 traps; TRAPSPOTTER)
Attacks:
Rapier: +15/+10 (+6 BAB, +6 Dex, +1 size, +2 ench); Bow +14/+9(+1) (+6 BAB, +6 Dex, +1 size, +1 bow/+1 acid arrow)

ROUND 9, Continued

Seeing the Flying Dutchman shift (don't forget YOU get a flanking bonus too--yoru first hit was actually a 16!), I give him a wink and a jaunty salute before stabbing R14.

Hey there, friend--allow me to demonstrate my Grampy Bozak's famous kneecap-pry on this hapless beast! HAVE AT YOU, knave!!

Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 <--oh, for the love of . . .
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 3d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (2, 4, 6) = 17

OK man, if you need to move otu of that burning web, don't mind me--I think I can handle these beasties. But please, stick around to help if you wish . . .
