Oh, I just arrived yesterday and since you performed so well at the contests I attended, and I was desperately searching for a group like yours who I could accompany, I just decided this was the right moment to introduce myself.

Looking from Bofus to Florence, Mantooth reiterates what the halfling has just said. " I mean no offense in my inquisition, Ms. Danapieré, but what the halfling says is true. We have run into several individuals have approached us in the same way you have... Albeit with more pointed edges and harsh words." The paladin glances back through the arch, still trying to determine how Cebrë's progress compares to the other competitors. "Please feel free to accompany us wherever the day takes us."

True, I bought the sword here in the Vale. But the blacksmith was not a dwarf...not at all.

Not worth wasting moi time then... Thordak hands the sword back. Hrah! Well you let me know when that sword falls apart and Oi'll make you a real one!

Female Human Bard 4

After Bofus has summarized the unpleasant meetings with Rotskill, Florence muses about the implications

I'm used to being in danger, so that won't make me wet my panties, heh. Umm but, I mean, did you or did you not, let's say borrow something from this unfriendly mister?

Taking the sword back from Thordak, she asks mockingly

But you don't fear that this completely undwarven piece of metal will shatter into a thousand pieces once I make use of it, do you?

Peeking through the arch Florence comments

While I'm not unfamiliar with certain aspects of magic, I think I could never do this challenge.

Fascinated by the spectacle she pulls out some waffles and offers her newly found companions some.

Just great, bought them this morning from a farmer's wife, hazelnut waffles...

Umm, did you know each other before? I mean before the tournament?

*Feigned surprise, consternation, and uproar* Why . . . why . . . you think I'm *capable* of such ledgermain and tomfoolerly?!?! I NEVER!!! Oh, by the way-- *tosses her money pouch to her* I think you might have dropped this. *wink* I think a 28 on Sleight of Hand was sufficient to lift it and escape notice! Feel free to check the spoiler after "was that a remark?" above. :-) I never steal from anyone who doesn't deserve it; at least, not permanently anyway! Suffice it to say, Rotskill DEFINITELY deserves to not have a particular item. I believe I can promise to fill you in at some point, maybe over a pint this evening, when my happy new friends here and I all celebrate our respective victories?? I'm staying at the Stone Wyvern, a fine and reputable establishment. I'm certain the owner, Master Yab, would be delighted to have another performer there!

Nope, we all met yesterday--and a finer bunch of folk a fellow like me could never hope to meet, even though most of 'em are a bunch of big ol' Daichinis, eh Thordak?? If Manthooth says you're OK to stick around, then by gum, that's more than enough for me. Fine man, that one. And handy with a sword . . . I recommend he's the one you hide behind if trouble starts! He'll keep you safe.

Dungeon Master

@Cebrë. The only change that you see is upon the stone table. Apparently the circular basin now appears circumscribed by an equilateral triangle engraved into the table itself.

@Matthias. Your father pauses a moment and then speaks. "Son, your mother and I have fallen on hard times and we are in danger of losing the entire estate. Varasa Kaal has laid claim to our debts and when she calls them in, we will not be able to pay. I'm sorry, son; We are near bankrupt."

@Bofus. You are unable to get close enough to Lord Jarmaath to be able to talk to him. When you try to approach you are politely, but firmly pushed aside. "Sorry, sir. You are not allowed to speak to his lord with an appointment."

@Mantooth. In regards to your perception check of Lord Jarmaath you notice the following. The Lord is walking with a host of guards and a very well dressed dignified man that appears to be a diplomat of sorts.

Knowledge, Nobility Check DC 12:
On the robes of the diplomat, you are able to see the red and black colors and the circlular emblem surrounded by a dagger up on the left and a dagger down on the right to indicate the country of Cheliax.

Florence catches the pouch mid-air, she bops Bofus on the arm and replies with feigned disappoinment

You're really a lousy thief, you should have noticed at once that this pouch is more or less empty (about 6gp), yet I have to admit: I didn't notice anything.

Pondering about possible accomodations

The Stone Wyvern you say? I think I've seen the place...I heard the might be an actual monster in petrified state?

Cebrë runs her fingers along the triangle, observing where the angles intersect in relationship to where she is standing.

Cebrë:
Cebrë understands that the triangle and the circle are somehow a two dimensional diagram of a three dimensional construction. Somehow you must manipulate the flaming rods to create a magical key of sorts.

Remember, there are six rods.

Female Half-Elf Wizard/2

After running her fingers along the triangle, Cebrë looks back up to the flaming rods and exclaims,

Well of course, it's a key! ...and that means there's a lock

With her excitement just under control Cebrë lifts up her hands and speaks some arcane words in a clear, strong voice. Feeling the infusion of telekinetic power working in her she begins to move the rods in different positions.

Wizards are a bit dry, but you have to admit, they *are* clever!

Although she maintains her concentration, it is obvious she is amused by the puzzle and begins to laugh aloud as she manipulates the shapes.

Come on, yes you...over there...thank you helping to form the base...

..and a triangle is formed directly above the table laying horizontally as the other rods move into vertical positions...

..and now...would you rods please rotate to form the apex...oh how lovely of you!

In a matter of moments she has constructed a triangular pyramid geometry using the flaming rods as the legs.

Cebrë shouts out the elvish word for Eureka!

Knowledge Nobility 1d20 ⇒ 18

At this point in time, Mantooth is dividing his time between the arches, Bofus and Florence's interactions, and the conversation Mattias is having with who he is treating like a stranger.

DMHW:
Knowledge of Cheliax? 1d20 ⇒ 16
Mantooth thinks for quite a while, thumbing his chin while trying to recall where he has seen that particular emblem with the dagger

Dungeon Master

@Cebrë. As the six rods are moved together, you notice that the dimensions of the floating pyramid are identical to the carved triangle on the stone table. As you lower the tetrahedron onto the table you hear a distant boom much like the sound of thunder.

Suddenly the world around you begins to swirl and you find yourself standing inside a huge triangular based pyramid. The walls are white marble with green veins. In front of you is a large circle engraved onto the floor with nine square tiles spread equidistant around the circumference. Each tile is about one foot in length and are each labeled with a number one through nine in elvish. Bursting forth from each of the nine tiles are beams of green flaming light arcing to each of the other eight tiles for a total of 36 beams altogether.

Standing within the circle, bound by the green light is an outsider unlike anything you have seen on Golarion. It is a medium sized, humanoid creature with thin leathery wings, small horns, and a mischievous smile. He glares at you as you enter.

On the other side of the circle you notice a large stone arch (15 feet high and the same size as the initial arch getting you into this world) built into the wall of the pyramid. However this time, there is no mist in the archway, simply a stone wall behind it. Instead, upon the floor in front of the arch is a square (about 3 feet in length) built into the floor before the arch.

Mantooth:
This is what you know of Cheliax.

Infernal Cheliax (pronounced CHEL-ee-ax) remains, without a doubt, one of the most powerful nations on Golarion and it continues to maintain naval control over the profitable Inner Sea. Nevertheless, as important as the nation may be at the current time, it pales in comparison to its former Imperial glories. Today, in the eyes of most external observers in other parts of the Inner Sea, Cheliax suffers from extreme diabolism and a tyranny which prevent it from truly achieving its full potential. Internal observers, including the new nobility of Cheliax, firmly believe that Asmodeus and Hell serve Cheliax and assist in maintaining the power necessary for Cheliax to assume its rightful role among the leading nations of the Inner Sea.

The High Lord of Brindol and his entourage proceed through the crowd to a raised platform directly in front of the Cebrë's arch. This is about fifty feet away from you. Thordak sets out through the crowd and approaches the stand where the lord sits. He pulls his medallion from his shirt and displays it proudly over his beard. When he reaches the guards, he bows and adresses them loudly, hoping to draw the attention of the lord himself. He speaks in his best Dwarvish manner, the "Salesman Speak" his father taught him to deal with customers with.
Hello good sirs! Well met on this fine tourney day! Oi was wondering if Oi might beg audience with the High Lord? I have a message from the wonderful Cebre Hath'We, who is competing as we speak. She gave me it and bade me pass it on should the Lord arrive.

As the dwarf walks over to the lord to alarm him, Florence joins the bearded fellow.

That's a tough one. At the gaming table, I'd be able to ask the DM immediately whether I could point out specifically what I'd seen. Here, it's not so cut and dried. However, in retrospect, I should have simply said "archer on the guard tower!" or something. In any case, I'll bet you notice him now. Sorry. :-)

Cebrë eyes widen as her surroundings suddenly change. She holds her wand firmly as she walks forward to observe the circle.

The mirth momentarily leaves her expression as she observes the outsiders leering glare.
She waves her wand in its direction as she speaks,
Looks we’re both in the same situation, we’d both like to be free. Only you appear amused by something…me perhaps?

She looks darkly at the creature as she moves cautiously to get a good look at it’s cage. Then a smile appears on her face...

Assuming Bofus' cries can be heard

Striding over to the guy that has captured her halfling companion, Florence casts Daze targeting the guard. Save DC 14

Should the spell work and the guard be dazed, she will drag Bofus away, admonishing the halfling with a smile

Now, you should really stop getting into troubles kneehugger.

** spoiler omitted **

Matthias realizes after all the commotion he had completely forgotten to tell his father about the race and the wager. You no longer owe anything to the Kaal family, Humphrey and I had a bit of a run in with the Kaal and ended up erasing your debts with our victory in the steeple chase! Matthias looks to his father hoping to see some of the resentment for his departure from Brindol leave his father along with his debts.

Matthias turns quickly from his father at the sound of Bofus shouting to look at the guard tower seeing the events unfold. Matthias quickly scans the crowd to see if there are any other shady characters lurking about.

@Cebrë. The cage of light is relatively big (30 feet diameter). However, you are able to easily walk around the perimeter to the other side where the square tablet lays on the floor and the arch stands built into the wall.

@Florence.

Brindol Lion's Will Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

In a sudden cloud of doubt, the Guard suddenly falls under your spell and stands there in a daze of inaction. You are easily able to pull Bofus away.

@Matthias.

Your father looks shocked, confused, followed by relief as you turn away and depart. You think he has more to say to you, but time does not seem to permit that at this time.

You are unable to see any other unusually shady characters at this time.

Florence, you're my favorite!

She pulls me away--but not before I PICK THE BLIGHTER'S POCKETS. Primary target is anything visible that could be considered a personal effect/identifier (signet ring, other unique jewelry, etc). Failing to see anything like that, I'll just lift whatever is small and valuable. I'm hoping being Dazed will lower his perception roll . . .

Florence will look out for a a place where the two can hide and still observe what Mantooth and Thordak do.

*whispered* Don't be too impatient--Im' not *JUST* doing this for fun. We know some of the royal guard has been infiltrated by a hostile "Baron"--who, incidentally, is also in cahoots with that Rotskill guy we told you about. If I can get anything on this jamoke here, so much the better, you know?

I'm usually the first to want to hide, but considering the ruckass I just caused with the shouting and the kicking, I think we may be beyond that. Perhaps it's best to "hide in plain sight" and let the High Lord *know* who just saved his bacon? If you want to hide, be my guest, but I'm going to stay in the open for now, unless things take a turn. Keep your eyes open for Tattoo Face.

Florence throws her arms up in feigned despair

Desna has smiled us about one thousand times today, why shouldn't she do it an additional time?!

She will follow the halfling then, trying not to stumble upon the guard again.

Dungeon Master

@Mantooth. Upon pulling back the cloak of the assassin, you discover that the killer is actually a woman! She was unconscious and dying, but you managed to stabilize her with your heal check.

@Bofus Before you escape with Florence, you manage to pull a wooden dowel forth from the guard's pocket. This seems like an unusual item for a guard to be carrying, but there you have it. Literally.

@Thordak. The Lord Jarmaath's reaction changes from surprise, to terror, followed by relief as you suddenly pull out your crossbow and take down the assassin. By the length of your beard, nice shot, Master Thordak! Now I see why you were able to win the Bolt and Arrow Competition over an elf. I had heard of your shooting by reputation, but it is even more impressive to see in person. Even under sudden pressure, you appear to handle that weapon with great ease as if you were shooting an apple off of a tree. I believe I am truly in your debt! In fact the people of Brindol are all in your debt, Master Dwarf. The Lord of Brindol shakes your hand heartily and then gestures to the plump, impeccably dressed man at his side.

"Please let me introduce you to Mister Parterul Stainak, the ambassador to Cheliax. He is here from Elidir, visiting the tournament for the day."

The well dressed diplomat offers his hand to Thordak. "My, what an exciting day this has turned out to be. It is nice to meet such a noteworthy dwarf."

@Florence, Bofus, and Matthias. Approaching the Lord, you are able to get up to the perimeter of the Lord's elite Lion Guard, when you are stopped by another burley guard. "Hold it right there, folks. You may not pass!"

Female Half-Elf Wizard/2

Cebrë walks around the perimeter of the circle to stand at the square tablet, never turning her back to the creature.

As she's talking she slips on a ring.

Whaaaaa??? About how big is this thing? Anything special other than the fact that a guard had it in his pocket??

Boy, the Lord seems pretty calm that there was just an assassination attempt (on either him or the embassador, we don't even know!!). And the elite guard is even more nonplussed . . .what the heck is going on here?? Why is he still on that platform??

I think someone besides the guard Florence dazed is not what they seem.

The guard, who has already had a difficult day, doesn't know what to say. So instead something rather incomprehensible sounding comes out like this, Drrrr? . . . Uhhhhm? . . . He looks to the others for support, but doesn't get any. Meanwhile, you walk past him, right up to the lord without any further resistance. Bofus and Matthias follow at your heels along for the ride.

@Bofus You do not suspect anything strange going on. The Lord was certainly upset, but seems better now that the danger appears to have passed. The guards were taken by surprise, but the danger seems to have passed before it hardly began.

Two of the Brindol Lions are already racing over to the tower where Mantooth is examining the killer.

Bofus, the dazed guard is returning to the Lord. Are you going to follow Florence or slip away into the crowd?

Jarmaath interjects and says, "Well, Paterul, not everybody needs to visit Cheliax, especially when there are so many wondrous sights to visit here in Isger."

Mantooth:
Removing the cloak reveals the woman to be dressed entirely in red leather armor. She carries two sawtooth sabers at her side in addition to her crossbow and she wears a distinctive insectoid mask of a red mantis.

Furthermore, the assassin has five crossbow bolts in a case as well as a dark liquid in a bottle. The head of the bolts appear to have been dipped in poison.

Sorry I missed that last spoiler. No, unfortunately the arch does not open as a result of the ring. The Lord of Brindol smiles brightly at the mention of Cebrë as he happily moves on to more pleasant topics of conversation. "Why yes, my dear Cebrë is a remarkable lass. Although, this appears to be a sort of challenge that should be reserved for only the most powerful of magic users. I had no idea that she possessed all of this hidden talent. My soul was forever touched by the sea chanty she sang to me last night and I will remember the following dance we shared for many years to come. However, I did not expect her to be facing a wretched demon in a friendly arcane competition. I must have a word with the judges. This looks far too dangerous. What would happen if she got hurt? I hope they have some way of pulling her out of there in case of mortal peril. How can they possibly expect a young elf at her age to be battling creatures from the outer planes? I am already shaken by the recent attempt on my life, but this makes my heart tremble just thinking about it.
