Hey Folks,
Things seem a little quiet here these days. Is there anything I can do to support you? Do you want to simply avoid this battle with a dragon and let it loose havoc over Brindol? Shall I roll initiative? I don't want a rerun of the last battle with Abithriax. Are you ready for this?
Tirion Jörðhár |
I'm good. Tirion is prepared to cast as many buffs as he can. I think I already posted them. The last one, Haste, will be the second we prepared to rush out the door.
How far is it from the door to the cathedral to the dragon?

"Option A: The scroll had been 'studied' earlier by Bofus, requiring a read magic spell or a successful Spellcraft check (DC 20 + spell level). If that had been done, the UMD getting a 1 means the scroll is fine but can't be re-attempted for 24 hours.
Option B: If not studied, then it was a blind trigger, and the mishap blows the scroll (and has a side effect of damage or mis-target etc)
It really just comes down to A or B
To me, this situation seemed like Option B, but I really do not like arguing rules with any of you. I am always looking to keep the story moving, especially when PBP is slow as it is and most of us are rather busy with RL.
We just had a teacher from my school die yesterday morning, and the thought of nit picking rules about 4 points of damage against a group of 8th level characters seems inconsequential to me.
Tell me, how is everybody doing? Are you all enjoying the adventure? Life is too short, and we need to make sure we are enjoy life to the fullest!

well, I've just been offered an opportunity for what is pretty dam close to my dream job, for a metric sh1t ton of money (comparative to what I'm used to). I should know in the next couple weeks whether that's going to pan out. Fingers x'ed please!!
adventure is cool. I like this group dynamic. I just wish we'd all (self included) be able to post more. :-p

thanks. Oh, and DMHW, I sent you an email. please check, it's important (at least, to me it is!) :-)

All good, looks like we are getting more focused with the clear enemies and encounters now - back into stride :)

Congrats Bofus. I am still looking for a real job. Running my own firm pays the bills, but not much else as I am not great at marketing.
DMHW - I am having fun and glad that the speed seems to be picking up again. It was definitely lagging for a bit there.

Yeah Tirion!!!!

Sorry for the slow pace this week. I've been overwhelmed at work, had to play harp for one of my dear friend, and colleague's memorial service, coaching my son's junior high soccer team, and then my boss is pushing us with her deadlines. I just got myself sick with a sore throat and fever. It feels a little bit like survival mode right now. I hope everyone else is doing well. I am looking forward to a vacation next week.

Folks, can you help me resolve this situation? I am looking for rules around space when a creature is too large to fit in a given area.
I have a paladin that is under enlarge person surrounded by heavy crates and I have companions beside the paladin also trying to work there way in to fight. Consider the following battlemat.
Strangely enough, I do not recall encountering this situation before. First, I understand that allies cannot occupy the same square as enemies. Secondly, I understand that characters may pass through squares occupied by allies, but should not end their turn in the same square as an ally. I understand that there are rules for squeezing, but for some reason I cannot find that at the moment. If the paladin is large, but there is not enough room for him, how do I resolve this? Is he making escape artist checks constantly? What about the bard who is also trying to attack? Even if the Paladin was not large, I do not believe Red can attack around the corner of the heavy crate at H23. If you can post any links to rules or language pertaining to this, I would very much appreciate it.

Squeezing: In some cases, you may have to squeeze into or through an area that isn't as wide as the space you take up. You can squeeze through or into a space that is at least half as wide as your normal space. Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to AC.
But then, Mantooth also has reach if he is Enlarged. He can be 5' back, and one of us could be in front of him (if it was Bofus, I don't even think I'd be a cover/distraction)

Sorry for my delay. Time has been a little crunched with an overloaded schedule. I have also been thinking about running the last encounter in the battle of Brindol with the big bad evil guy. The thought of it frightens me!
I will be away for most of the weekend and probably with no internet. I will likely be ready to post on Sunday night.
On a really awesome note, for my last two weeks of school I am doing a June Intensive called Cabot Con, A Pathfinder Society Event. I have about fifteen psyched high school students getting ready to play a lot of Pathfinder! A colleague at my school, two students and I are going to GM a PFS scenario each day. I have never been quite so excited about going to school! Our planning time right now is reading scenarios, organizing monster stats, preparing flip mats, ordering extra miniatures, and basically preparing for our own little convention! Once final exams finish, we start our June Term! Talk about a crash course in role playing! I love it when a plan comes together!

I can get him to come down here if you want to play. We probably need a few more players. I think DMHW wants to run Wrath of the Righteous which I really want to play and would be fun for an actual tabletop game since I have not played in quite some time.
I would ask Shifty, but that whole 24 hour flight time would cut into playing time and most likely his RL finances.

Any gaming is good gaming - at least for me at this point. Although, if you invite those goofs from the Carnage on the Mountain (the ones who decided that a level 1 sorceress was a great front line fighter), I might question your judgment.

I've got plenty of PFS players local to me. Everyone DMHW and I hung out with at GenCon last year, plus others. no worries there!

I'm not going to GenCon this year, but I'd like to go again (preferably with at least one of my kids, if I can get them into gaming).

the four things you listed are all more important than PBP. Do whacha gotta do. we'll be here.

I had a blast playing Pathfinder at work all day! I ran a group of five students through the Confirmation. We had a blast! The only problem was that the cleric was absent and the party was having a real tough time with the minotaur at the end. The beast downed their pathfinder guide, Janira, two players and a druid's animal companion before they managed to slay the beast with arrows. Thank goodness they had two potions of cure light wounds to get the druid back to health. It was a little intense there at the end!
DM Harpwizard |
Tirion, do you want to cast haste before round 1, during round 1, or after round 1. I have used the battle mat to show distances. What is your decision?
Well, I've had three amazing days! I'm exhausted at the end of every day, but the energy level is awesome. Today, in the Rise of the Goblin Guild, during the last fight with the boss, all of the players stood up during the combat. The tension and group energy was beyond words. It was glorious when the shy halfling rogue snuck up and back stabbed it for the final blow! I have to laugh when I think about his first battle two days ago against two wolves when he decided to hide in the bushes.
As for TPK, that comes during week two of the curriculum!

I'll freely admit to some suspense upon seeing the foe on the board, but I was sure, about during the buffing stage, we had it pretty much in the bag. When I have to start each round with Current conditions (for my own benefit) due to multiple buffs ...yeah, that's a good indication that "we're doin' it right"

I was a little short on spells at that point, and I am usually one of the more conservative casters I know. I usually hate low level sorcerers and wizards who start every combat with MM or shocking grasp and then complain that they have nothing left. However, with 4-5 fights, including a dragon, I ended up lacking by the time we met the Wyrmlord.

No worries. didn't show!
