Ok - one more time.

Thoughts on my Level 7 Feat and on a level 3 spell.

For the spell I am thinking:
Keen Edge - makes Bofus' Butterfly Sting incredibly deadly when combined with Haste & Mantooth/Thordak's damage output.
Slow - these monsters are getting a lot of multiple attacks, would be nice to limit them to 1/round
Protection from Energy - sucking 84 damage is always a nice buff (I already have Resist Energy which is 20 at this level.)

For feats, I am taking Improved Init as my bloodline feat.

Options for the Level 7:
Spell Penetration, Improved (another +2 to overcome SR)
something else - metamagic?, Precise shot (eliminates -4 on touch spells), Spell Focus (conjuration) <-- to be followed by Augment Summoning and Summon Monster III or IV at level 9.

You don't need Precise Shot for touch spells, PS is only for ranged attack. Even with Spectral Hand, it's still a touch attack. But, looking at your char sheet, with your rod of spell reach . . . then they're touch.

I think improved penetration, or maybe a Spell Focus for one of your more common attack spells would be my recommendation. (I don't have any experience with the augment summoning, so I can't comment directly).

I lean toward Slow for a spell. I can get a scabbard of keen edges and/or keen weapon eventually.


Not in use

Bofus - Precise shot still works with ray spells. Even touch attacks suffer negatives to hit from either cover or being in melee.

well, he specifically said "touch spells." Ranged touch attacks, sure, I agree. Touch attacks behave just like regular melee--you don't get a -4 to a touch attack because the target is in melee (but *ranged* touch do).

so, as some of you may recall, I had a player in another PBP (in which DMHW is a player) whom I was really struggling with. Brought it up to the DM and we had an air-out with everyone. Seemed to make some progress--then the problem player pulled his gun and shot the NPC who was going to move the plot along.

so I gave a small rant that was basically "one again I have no reason NOT to kill you," "you're coming across as sabotaging the adventure for attention," and "this is NOT fun."

so he dropped out. Problem solved.

thanks for the advice/suggestions, I"m glad this got resolved quickly.

My final observations are that this dude, I think, is an *outstanding* role player, but a terrible GAMER.

(DMHW, feel free to publically repremand me if you think I'm being too harsh!!)

You had a group that was enjoying the campaign. If someone new comes in, they should see how the others game by reading the thread, or at least part of it. If your player is going to be completely unable to fit in the group, either don't join or make a character than can.

You did the right thing, if the new player does not work, he either changes or leaves.

As a reasonably seasoned spellcaster, few things suck harder than failing the spell penetration roll. Those are typically the foes you NEED to hit with something, so the more SP you can get, the better!

re: group--yeah, you're right. The newcomer *does* in fact have some responsibility to try to fit in, rather than try NOT to, know what I mean? Nudge nudge?

In the interest of moving things along, please let me know what you would like to do?

You requested a meeting with Sellyria Starsinger, which I have granted in a post yesterday morning, but I do not have any responses to her questions. Do you simply want to chat (which is perfectly acceptable by the way) or is there a greater purpose in the visit?

Soon you will be leaving this place and I will need to know where you are planning to go next. Who do you seek out? What do you need to do before trying to find the ghostlord, etc.

The thread always slows down when you are given such open ended options. The adventure is a little more lifelike in that it is not quite a clearly linear adventure. However, I don't like seeing time pass with indecision. If I can move it along by giving you options, I am happy to do so.

Edvard was hoping that someone with a kinder tongue would start things off with Sellyria - essentially we're after military assistance against the horde yes? - giant owls and flying elves, oh my!

As to the rest of it, I think if we swing past Brindol for offloading cash, onloading phat lewt and then research the Ghostlord?

TN sounds about right for him. He would still be opposed to the CE horde, but not particularly interested in supporting the LG vale.

True Neutral seems to be a good fit. I like the way you are playing him. As long as he has motive to be with the party, this would be fine.

TN it is, and I'm glad that you're liking him as I definitely am.

He most definitely is motivated to remain with the party, as it's the way that he sees he is most likely to save the Witchwood from the Hand. But as shown, he's less concerned with niceties and hand-holding - and to use the vernacular of the Dresden Files - if Fuego doesn't work, then the next step is Pyro-Fuego!

I really need to solidify his background a little more if he's going to be questioned on it :P - I got as far as lots and lots of old wounds, suffered some tremendous loss, and the obvious hermitage and need to 'protect' the Witchwood.

I wish I had thought to use Avatars and different pictures for characters when I started this campaign. I like having different characters show up on the gameplay messageboard. Does it make any difference for all of you?

I'm not doing it in my campaign because I already have too many aliases. It has positives and negatives. It definitely adds some flavor to the campaign and is fun. On the negative, it makes tracking down a comment by the DM difficult sometimes. You are pretty good at separating DM comments from NPC chat/actions whereas in other campaigns I am in with NPC avatars, the DM's frequently mix the DM commentary/location descriptions into the NPC post which as I said, makes it hard to find where the DM said something at times.

DMHW - I quite like it, but I know that it's a massive lump of extra work for you.
As with Tirion, I don't do it in my campaigns due to the exploding number of aliases that would be required... as well as the hassle of tracking down an appropriate profile picture for each.

Yeh, no kidding - it can take me an hour or more just to find the right picture for each character, I don't even want to know how long it would take for all the possible NPCs in the ToEE.

Well, it feels strange to have you back in Brindol after probably close to a year of actual time since you departed the city. You left Brindol in the game on Rova 23, 4710 which was on November 16, 2011.

What should I buy with it? Should I give it to the Cathedral in Brindol?

enchant your shield, bro!! For 4K you can get it up to +2, giving you a cool 30 AC. It would cost you more, but D. M. Harpwizard can do it faster.

you might consider potions/oils of barkskin and/or shield for getting your AC up for big fights.

OH--don't forget, any gear you're replacing (armor?) you can sell at half market value.

Don't forget, you got a sweet suit of Full Plate +2 from dragon boy. Jacking the Shield to +2 is definitely useful. Potion of Shield is actually not useful unless you are attacking with two hands as the Large Shield +2 give the same AC as the Shield Spell.

Barkskin is always useful. You could also get a Headband of Charisma +2 or buff your Belt of Strength to +4. If DMHW will allow it, Matthais has Craft Wondrous Items as a feat and could probably do it for 1/2 price. That would take some time though and I do not think that we have much time.

ah, thanks Tirion, I forgot about Shield. Heh. I'm so used to using it with my 2-handed fighters . . .

But yeah, time might be an issue. Taht's the thing about the nicer items, they take forever to craft!!

Uh, DMHW, can I get you to weigh in on this spell please:

Arrow Eruption

Pay special attention to this line: "They also enjoy the full benefit of any bonuses or modifiers you applied to the attack from other magical items, feats, and class or racial features."

am I reading this rigth--if Bofus were to sneak attack wiht an arrow, then cast this spell, all creatures within 30' of the corpse would then be hit by a sneak attack arrow next round???

If so, expect me to buy some scrolls of THIS puppy!!

Only problem is that you got the Sneak Attack during the surprise round or Round 1 when the enemy was flatfooted. Since this spell is cast the next round, these arrows would not be targeting the FF enemies, but rather regular enemies. If they were still FF, then you might have an argument.

I am accepting of the bonuses to hit and damage from everything except the actual sneak attack. Sneak attack comes directly from your skill as a rogue. I am not convinced that a second level ranger spell could duplicate those effects. Tirion's flat footed argument is also very strong. Are there other opinions out there about this spell in the rule's forum?

So BADASS that it might be a balance breaker. As it is, I am worried that you folks have crept up a little too high. If it wasn't for the BADASS dragons that you keep facing, I would be worried.

Strange how a few simple spells like Haste and Lead Blades suddenly turn a tough opponent into mincemeat.

Please let me get this right. The phylactery was placed in the folding boat, it was folded up and then held onto by Bofus. This sounds like an extra dimensional space. Were you using it like a portable hole or a bag of holding?

Making a crossbow would be an impossibility right now. Can you purchase one?
