I am going to have to drop. I just have too many things going on to take on another game. My role play with my characters is already down from where it normally is. I figure its better to drop out now than make a bot. I am sure you will find someone better than I to fill the spot.
Happy Gaming and thanks for thinking of me.

Here's what I have so far mechanically. I've been working out a bit of a background but it doesn't seem to want to come together in my head yet. Figured I'd ask for advice.
My current thoughts go like this:
Character was a mage who recently completed training at wizard college (or apprenticeship if no colleges available). Shortly after completion approached by a con artist who stated I looked similar to the child of one of the nobles killed during the non-human invasion. I was brought along to help with the con.
When arriving to claim land, the actual child happened to show up only days before. I was arrested, but the con artist himself had managed to get away. My term jailed was short lived as I was only a pawn, but it ruined my reputation as a wizard at that time. Since then have been living as a mercenary getting by from job to job. Of which currently on one such job.
This is very rough and pretty much everything is open to change as of yet. I went with wizard for the versatility (my normal preference), but could easily change to sorc (charisma based caster might actually help with the background), warmage (could be fun), or even possibly a warlock.

Hey all, its me, the new guy attempting to join :) I just got a few questions about basic rules to ask first.
1) We are using 3.5 rules, not pathfinder correct?
2) If we are using 3.5 rules, the only rules that I know of are from d20srd.com. Are these rules good/close enough to what we are playing with? If not, as long as you can direct me to where an online set of rules is, I can learn fast :) Really fast...
3) Again, assuming that we are using 3.5 stuff, feat progression is every 2 levels, not every 3 correct? I think I am getting even older editions mixed up, so just want to double check :)
4) Cross class skills, combat maneuvers, starting skills, skill prerequisites and d20srd variant rules, specifically class/race/bloodline rules. Are we using 3.5 or pathfinder for these?
5) Cross compatibility. Regardless of using pathfinder or 3.5 rules, it seems that you are allowing both sets, how are you planning compatibility wise?
Oh ya, I noticed the different PB we are using, so I will build my guy according to that :)
If we are using pathfinder rules, feel free to disregard most of the above stuff ^-^
And Hello to all of you 8D
Edit: So it seems that we are using 3.5, and that d20srd will work fine for rules :) I also assume that means we are using it in its completion and no PF stuff so disregard that.
So by my research,
Xzaral/Rufa Damnatio, Human wizard, some buffing, some damage, some debuffing
Ilmakis/Galdamor Graak, Human Cleric, frontliner, good damage, decent AC (btw what is your second domain?)
ashern/Denlin Longarm, Human Fighter/barbarian, frontliner, good damage, good hps, decent AC
DajellyMan, Half elf bard, dont know anything else about him :P (btw hi Min! I hear Fungal Rot is especially potent this time of year :P)
I imagine something ranged would be good :)
Gobo Horde |
I have come up with a few ideas that I want to run by you.
Jungle Goblin ranger. I am wondering if it is ok to play a monstrous race, the goblin and if it is ok to use the jungle variant. He would be a ranged ranger.
Orc monk 1, paragon 3. I would build him up to be a grappler with a great str score :)
A pixie. Just throwing the idea out there :) he would be called Puck and be based off of Beserk. He has a level adjustment of 4 so would have no class levels.
An earth dwarf paragon with the earth elemental bloodline. The most dwarfish dwarf imaginable :)
Human fighter focusing on archery. If I can't be one of the above, this will be my fallback.
Human paladin of tyrrany. He will be the not-nice hand of the law :)
So ya your thoughts on these guys and I will pick one :)
DM Greg |
Goblin isn't in any approved books (and it wouldn't fit this AP anyway)
Orc aren't either and so is Paragon (its from Unearthed Arcana)
So no pixie, no paragon sorry
(Savage species isn't on the approved books)
And paladin of Tyranny would just get killed about the Middle of the AP upon entering A Holy cathedral of Pelor. (and the class isn't on the authorized book)
if you want weird authorised race go look in race of dragons,wild,stone,destiny.
Denlin Longarm |
Oh yeah, the hidden vault campaign has been fun. I'll be happy when we segue back to exploring though. If that doesn't happen soon I'm declaring a day or two of downtime to recover and starting crafting with Xarol.
Gobo Horde |
Ya I suggested the idea of stopping and healing the disease that will cripple Min and Firebeard but it don't seem to be happening :P They are going to find themselves down 3-4 str, 2 dex and 1 con and be unable to run or charge tomorrow if they are unlucky :P
To them I say good luck XD
How are you liking the idea of is being brothers there Ashern? Themore I think of it, the more I think it would be awsome :) You?
ashern |
Works for me. Barbarian brothers? Sounds like a recipe for awesome! I went with the lion spirit totem variant from complete champion that gives up fast movement for pounce. I'm going for frenzied berzerker charger build, though I almost went for a mage killer build. I would love to have some melee backup, let's shred some faces!
DM Greg |
Dam i forgot Frenzied Berserker is the one class i won't authorize.
You will end up killing the party eventually. (trap goes off, you take damage, you fail will save you go into frienzy and therefor attack the closest possible target ie the party.)
I am very sorry i sincerer forgot that prc
Brian Longarm |
Well I dont mind him being it, since I will most likely be the closest target, being his brother and all :P It could be lots of fun trying to 'reign him in' so to speak, but its your call :)
Also, I love the idea of being brothers more and more, I got a profile up and am now converting everything into it :D
I got 4 feats I want and can only take 3 :( Decisions decisions decisions...
The 4 feats are imp sunder, power attack, destructive rage and reckless rage.
ashern |
Darnit! Uhh... crap. Well then I think I will be taking you advice and dropping one of the feats I took as a prereq for that class. Though now that I reread the frenzy upon taking damage part I understand why. Time to rethink a little... Is it okay if I rebuild a little? (still barbarian, just tweaking some stuff)
ashern |
Oh no! Don't feel bad at all! 3.5 had a lot of crazy silly stuff, and decided where the limits are is totally the DM's perogative. With all of the books you gave us we still have a crazy big number of options, and really I just wanted like 4 feats from various (legal) books. Besides, frenzied berzerker wasn't going to kick in until way down the road.
Xzaral |
All right mechanically I think it's all there and done. I've got a background listed, but to be truthful it's not up to my usual standards this time around. I seem to be hitting a mental block on my creativity.
Let me know if the format is acceptable or not. If you need me to adjust it to more conform with your earlier link, let me know and I'll get to work on that.
Brian Longarm |
My guys crunch is now 100% done :) I would be glad if you checked it over.
Next I got to do his backstory and he will be all ready to start playing tomorrow :)
DM Greg |
Gobo horde unless you need destructive rage to qualify for something its a rather useless feat, same goes with leap of the heavens
i don't see how you can get MWT that help with jumping or tumble
your melee to hit is off it should be
4 bab + 4 Str + 1 MW weapon = +9 (+11 while raging)
(you could buy a mithril chain shirt it has better stats et no penalty to skills)
Brian Longarm |
As for destructive rage being a useless feat I would probably agree with that... kind of a hold over from the sundering build I had before and kept because Ashern had it as well. Ill think about swapping it out for something else :)
Leap of the heavens is a straight +5 or better bonus to jumping, aka a bonus 5 feet to whatever I had before. I plan on taking leap attack at level 5 and kinda jump attacking things when I can so I think I will keep it (I know, my loss :P).
As for the masterwork tools, its all in how creative you can get with it :) I had another character that had masterwork Nike shoes for jumping that got a laugh and a pass. As for tumbling, MWK knee pads and shoulder pads would work there. I can come up with specific descriptions of each one if you would like.
Good catch on the to hit bonus, its changed now :)
Will check out the mithral chain shirt :)
Edit: Mithral chainshirt was a good idea :)
DM Greg |
usually in order to make a leap attack you need to run at least 10ft. Therefore with just straight bonus from skill you can make a running jump DC easy starting with a 20ft run you need to make a DC 10 to jump 10ft.
with out a running start you would need to make a DC 20 to jump 10 ft (the required minimum amount for leap attack)
easy done in a few level with just ranks and str bonus (and you will gain the +2 synergy for 5 ranks in tumble eventually)
=> meaning you can ditch the ring (buy something else and the feat)
and yes please do give me the description of MWT you are using (in you character sheet)
your damage bonus is off
greataxe is a 2hand weapon so damage is +6 damage (+9 raging)
Brian Longarm |
Well the maximum jump DC that I need to make would be 80, double my ms of 40. Even with a running start of 20 I still need to make a dc up to 20 (not hard) but the real problem is that I wont necessarily be 30-40 feet away from an enemy and have the first 20 feet clear for me to run/charge through and then the DC is 10-20, therefore easy. So getting the running start bonus is highly circumstantial normally for a jump charge. The other option is to jump charge without the running start bonus and therefore my charge distance is 10-40 feet ignoring difficult terrain and a DC of 20-80. A lot more likely to happen but significantly higher DCs.
With the feat I can do a standing jump charge of 10-40 like normal but only for a dc of 10-40, putting it well within reasonable do-ability. I also have the option to run whatever distance I am able to before hand and reduce the DC accordingly.
A feat that gives me a +5-40 untyped skill bonus that only gets better as I get faster is a steal for a feat :P
To make this thing really work I need a high jump skill to make the rather high DCs involved and as such, things like the ring of jumping are a good investment despite giving up a +1 enhancement to my weapon because I have no guarantee that I will get it as I adventure and the benefits of it are actually quite noticeable, I can charge over difficult terrain unlike most others, I can attack low flying creatures without magical aid easier and more reliably, escape pits and any other bonuses that you might throw me in the form of terrain :)
I have put a lot of thought into this :P
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to show my POV and I will post in the game thread :D
Rufa Damnatio |
Trey it look good to me.
i'll see if i can come up with some fluff for you.oh and btw skill focus concentration is a good feat a low level but useless at mid-high
my advice would be to take something else (just make sure you put a skill point at every level in it)
I agree with that opinion quite a bit, actually. I ended up taking it as filler. The problem is most of the feats I want to take can't be taken at first level, and my third level feat was devoted to Fiery Burst. Examples:
Improved Familiar
Most reserve feats
Any crafting feats I'd enjoy
Improved Toughness
Weapon Focus: Ranged Spell
I did toy with point blank and precise shot, I just don't expect to use enough spells to justify two feats on it. I suppose I could go with Spell Penetration. Might swap that out, I'll think on it today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also didn't take a familiar. Need to look into that too.
Denlin Longarm |
Okay, I ended up not having to change much except two feats (dropped destructive rage and Cleave) and moved a few skill points around. I almost changed to a dwarf since the new build benefits more from constitution, but I don't want to break up the Barbarian Bros, and it's going to be awesome anyway. Just a heads up to the DM, I will be taking bear warrior eventually, so don't get mad when I turn into a bear and maul everything ;)
Brian Longarm |
I just read up on the bear warrior PRC, wowzers... you are going to be strong :P Have you thought about the reckless rage feat? make it even stronger ;)
As for me, I am still deciding on what to replace the destructive rage feat with... I intend on turning into more of a roguish skill monkey type later on, a secondary fighter. I was thinking of either the fortunes friend PRC and grab some luck feats or the Dungeon Delver class but I dont know if we will be spending much tim underground. What are your thoughts and do you have any different ideas?
Denlin Longarm |
I'm going fist of the forest next level (I figure with a love of the wilderness it could fit pretty well), and if I went with dwarf I was going to try to go deepwarden after that. That way I can soak hits with my con and block swords with my muscles!
Edit: Wow, reckless rage is sweet!
Brian Longarm |
Do you mean destructive rage or reckless rage? You already had destructive rage and traded it out...
