Relan* |
And Relan has begun the gift giving by handing over the sword used to nest her champion. I am hoping that will have more significance than just any old sword, but I am sure we will have to come up with other weapons. The others gave daggers. Larger metal weapons should be valued more? Any reaction from the gift of the sword?
DM Fflash |
Mama Bebella waits for a few moments, apparently to see if anything else is forthcoming and the shrugs. She gathers a couple of her warriors to her and then beckons to you all to follow them.
They trek about 100 yards west of the village when they stop and point to a rocky outcrop another 100 yards ahead. "Caves there. Boggards guard entrance. Tell them Mama Bebella sent you."
They turn to depart and then Mama pauses and looks back over her shoulder, "Don't come back here. Vile halfling stench take weeks to go away. You come again, we kill you."
The three then leave.
Assuming you proceed forward ... feel free to take any time to prep or talk first
Outer Shrine
This large cavern has a cathedral-like ceiling that rises to a height of forty feet above. The ground is smooth and clear of debris, save for a few large boulders and rocks here and there. Along the western wall, flanked by passageways to either side, menaces a frightful wall-carving of an enormous multiheaded frog demon crouched on a mound of skulls and bones. Four crude nests of mud and reeds lie on the floor here and there.
Four boggards are squatting around the largest rock in the room, which they’re using as a table to gamble with a large stack of coins and gemstones. They don't notice you yet as they are arguing over the game they're playing which involves the tossing of colored stones and a fairly simple set of rules (whoever ends up with the most stones on the table wins) that, nevertheless, seems to be something someone can cheat at.
Map Updated
Vuloo |
Vuloo winks at Mama Bebella before leaving. "Not if we kill you first."
Vuloo walks in with Andel and addresses the boggards, "Greetings my slimy friends, we've been sent by Mama Bebella. She requests that you lead us to the Lady's Light at once."
Andel translates.
Relan* |
Glad I could be of service. Relan concedes. We won passage, but failed to win allies. Perhaps it is enough. Still if we meet the frogs, I council we speak with them before we fight. I somehow wanted to side with the Boggards, but perhaps that was an error. They proved to be vile and unfriendable.
Levelle Mahe |
Levelle thinks about grabbing more steel and then notes the apparent satisfaction of the boggard matriarch. Nodding to herself she follows the others and simply listens to the groups banter. At Relan's thoughts on the boggards Levelle chimes in, How they respond in this moment will speak volumes to me about their character. I am concerned we are about to be attacked but perhaps the crude "strength as power" tribalism is merely the world they know and its how they understand their role in it. ..
The hunter lets her words linger as she watches Vuloo and hears Andel offer a translation of his words...
DM Fflash |
Vuloo steps forward with a grin and begins to speak. The four boggards jump, startled and turn to grab weapons as they face you. One takes in a monstrous breath, that Andel recognizes, "Terrifying croak! They're going to attack and they're alerting others!"

Shouldn't we try to diffuse the situation rapidly, instead of attacking them and making it worse?
"For the love of..." Braelex groans. She shoves Vuloo out of the way. "You gotta stop talking to them; they hate you!" She moves forward, holding her hands up and waving. "Andel, tell them to stop! We're not the enemy!"

Not the Frogs you're looking for Round 1 (cont)
Init: Relan, Andel, Braelex, Levelle, Aidon, Boggard, Vuloo, Daghop, GF
Levelle moves with grace and fires at the closest boggard not on the ground and the arrow skips off its hide armor.
Aidon summons elementals creating flanks among themselves and Relan. They pummel the boggard on the ground into paste.(Might want to discuss that with the polearm warrior since it takes away some of his tactic)
The boggards behind open with one making a horrific croak that echoes through the cavern and beyond. (Relan + ellies make a DC13 Will Save or be shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 3 rounds)
The others attack the southwest elemental with morningstars and shooting tongues while Vuloo opens a link to Relan.
From the north, 3 giant frogs and a larger boggard carrying a glowing warhammer appear. They move in close.
Image of new boggard added to journal ... note he's carrying a morningstar in the picture ... has a steel warhammer in reality

Vuloo curses the lead boggard with bad luck

Relan turns and flees alongside one of the elementals. Andel sidesteps the warrior and fires an arrow at Daghop. Levelle mirrors him and the 2 arrows nick the boggard leader. Vuloo fires and misses, deflecting off the back of an elemental.
Braelex drinks a mutagen as Aidon's elementals continue their wall of steamrolling smashing of the remaining enemies. They leave 2 more frogs in pulp and hit the boggard chieftan solidly twice. (Given the tide of battle, I'm holding Aidon's haste in check)
