You completed it, but haven't turned it in.

There was also a quest from Lord Heidmarch for any unusual/new Thasillonian stuff. I'll find the original post later. Search by Heidmarch should bring it up. Can't recall his first name, begins with a C. Cayden?

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

We passed up a couple of the Thasillonian items because none of us made our perception checks or knowledge checks.

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Hey guys... not sure if you heard yet, but i got laid off a couple weeks ago. Im getting back into the swing of things and plan to be around again soon...

Hopefully its not causing too much trouble not being around.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Sorry to hear about the job situation. Hope things work out.

Sorry about the delay. Out of town without laptop. Tough to post on phone until Wayfinder is fixed. Expect a post tomorrow.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Realizing I have been very negligent, and with nothing to do in the current battle (sorry, guys), I went back through a year's worth of posts to get the treasure tally up to speed.

Epic Bag of Holding Loots:

Major Items:
  • +1 bladed scarf
  • 1 potion of cure light wounds
  • 2 potions of lesser restoration
  • magical pendant*
  • +1 cold iron ranseur {Relan}

*: I know we asked to identify this, but I couldn't find the DM response.

Treasures: 4pp, 552gp, 175sp, silver holy symbol of Hanspur, Crow historical treasures (900 gpv), several journals written in Varisian, tarnished silver bracelet (45gpv)

Mundane Gear: 2 mwk studded leather, 11 studded leathers, 10 short swords, 1 light crossbow, 12 hand crossbows, 140+ bolts, 5 smokesticks, 15 tanglefoot bags, 11 climbers' kits, 3 coils of 50 ft silk rope w/ grappling hook, 10 coils of 50 ft silk ropes, 3 hooded lanterns, 10 flasks of oil, 11 second-story harnesses, 11 thieves' tools sets, mwk composite shortbow, 20 arrows, mwk chain shirt, mwk hand crossbow, mwk short sword, mwk whip

The only claims I found (besides my own) were a couple from Fulmen ("1 CLW, 50ft silk rope"; "a climber's kit and second story harness and a couple smokesticks") and Relan ("...chain shirt, and maybe the rapier... a lightwound potion"). These claims are accounted for and not counted in the totals above.

If there were other claims I missed, or claims you want to make now, let me know and I'll update the tally.

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Ok, im back. Sorry about the absence, im still working on finding work before i have to move me and the fiance into my parents house (not wanting to do that at all). But im here and i really enjoy this so im going to make a stronger effort to get involved again.

I caught up to the story and it looks like we are in the middle of a fight, im not sure if i should wait the fight out and get back in or not.

Oh and awesome a magic sword... glad DM rolled or iw ould have probably fell on my face breaking it off :P

The ranseur is actually a pole arm ... sort of a bladed fleur-de-lis at the end of a spear.

Go ahead and jump right in the middle of this fight. Silver dagger drawn and ready to go. Part of the party is fleeing, the other part is fighting the one remaining visible devil and the bat swarm. The other devil fled to the east down the hallway.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Is the bladed scarf a weapon that a monk might be able to make use of?

The mundane loot doesn't appeal to Fulmen.

Bladed scarf can qualify as a monk weapon. I'll say you can use it.

Relan? Need some posts man, or I'm gonna open recruiting.

Pendant. Did someone make spellcraft check or Knowledge Local check?

Recruitment for Relan replacement posted.

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Sorry guys, things are just too crazy for me right now to get back to reguarly posting. Thanks again for all the fun, if things change ill let you guys know, sorry to be a holdup. I had a blast.

M Human Level 10 Fighter (Lore Warden) HP 117/121 AC 27 (30 Expertise) (+15 Perception; +4 Init; Fort +12, Ref +11, Will 7+4 vs fear) +2 vs transmutation and necromancy)

Greetings all, and thanks for the chance to join you. I have decided to keep Relan's name and image. I hope this adds continuity and does not confuse people. If someone objects (even if Relan the original objects) I would be fine with changing these.

I believe the first order of business is to generate hit points for second and third level.

Hit Points: 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (3, 3) + 8 = 14

Hmm. Below average, but better than an average on a d10. I will take that (not like I have a choice, right :) ).

This is everyone's first look at my build. So it has not yet been oked by our DM. I hope he is fine with my presenting it to everyone at once. And I hope you all like him. He may look a little soft for a front line fighter but if played well (I will try) he will finesse his way to victory. :) Please feel free to review and provide comments. I built him sort of fast as I was excited to join. Plus I know I will be busy tomorrow with a home game and have house guests over the weekend. So tonight was my chance.

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

Welcome!

This completely makes me think of Beerfest the movie when Landfill dies and his 'twin brother' shows up and joins them and he says, you can just call me Landfill

I will admit to having seen that, but I am not too proud of it. Fear the boot.

After Super Troopers I watched most of their stuff, nothing was nearly as good as Troopers but that one wasn't as bad as some of their other stuff.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Uh...welcome Relan :) Or is it Relan* (with the *)

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

He's a doppleganger!

Welcome, err, back ... Relan? :)

I'd like to ask the party to give our new player a quick recap of what we have accomplished so far, to include current quests? I don't really expect him to read 1600 posts

Character looks good at first blush. I'll honk him out in Hero Lab later today but no issues with what I see so far.

As a reminder to the party, Relan the new is still a part of your party and as such will be entitled to a split of the current treasure. I reduced his starting wealth to accommodate that.

M Human Level 10 Fighter (Lore Warden) HP 117/121 AC 27 (30 Expertise) (+15 Perception; +4 Init; Fort +12, Ref +11, Will 7+4 vs fear) +2 vs transmutation and necromancy)

DM Fflash, I could email you my .por file if you like. Just get me an address to mail to.

One question I had is what items can be bought once we get back to "town"? Are we operating out of Magnamar or some smaller place? Is most anything available up to some price limit or is shopping more on a case by case basis.

Just like there are never enough skill points, there is never enough gold to purchase what you need. With my 750 starting gold I spend 700 on a MW strength bow, +3. I figured that while I do not focus on range attacks I better go ahead and lock in the ability to do damage to things I can't get to. But that left me lacking in the area of consumables. I'd like to know if I can easily pick up alchemicals and potions as I acquire the coin to do so.

You are working out of Magnimar, so pretty much everything is available while you are here. For the rest of the AP, you will be returning to Magnimar at least 1/chapter although you will range all across Varisia in your shard search.

Welcome Relan*!

BTW, please don't forget to give our new player a quick recap on what's occurred ... you can each take a piece if you'd like. I see them broken up as follows:

  • Sheila's quest to find her informant, Plutivarch, and the trip to the Arvensoar
  • Finding Fenster the Blight & locating Natalya's hideout
  • The discovery of the Shard and routing the Tower Girls
  • Beyond the puzzle door: mites, vermin, and devils

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

I will take beyond the door as much of what happened before that was before my time

After finding one part of the Shattered Star, the Pathfinder Society sent us back down to try and find the missing 6 other pieces. We made it past a puzzle door and descended deeper into the Crow then anyone else has in 1000's of years.

We ran into a blue skinned creature called a mite who led us to his king who requested we slay a creature that had his other crown, he promised us a reward, I diamond I believe, if we completed it.

We found the creature, it was a cave fisher, we killed it and found his crown.

We have fought several huge spiders, one group we have left alone.

We also have fought several minor devils, imps, nupperibos and sadly an accuser devil that managed to live.

We are fairly injured and are now heading back to the surface to rest and come back fully healed.

M Human Level 10 Fighter (Lore Warden) HP 117/121 AC 27 (30 Expertise) (+15 Perception; +4 Init; Fort +12, Ref +11, Will 7+4 vs fear) +2 vs transmutation and necromancy)

Ok. My only immediate question is what is the Crow?

Oh, and should I also assume Relan's wounds?

I'd say yes to Relans wounds, although I'm not entirely certain where he is at.

The Crow is one of the pilings of the Irespan. What's that, you ask? If you look at a map of Magnimar, you will see what looks like a ridiculously huge (giant-sized) bridge that hits out several 1000 feet into the ocean before it abruptly ends. It is an artifact of ancient Thassilonia. No one knows what is was built for but it was assumed one of the Runelords made it. Each of the support beams (pilings) are artfully crafted with some sort of animal motif and as such are each named after an animal. The Crow, one of those pilings, is a standalone piling, the bridge above it long since destroyed, that was always thought to be empty until Natalya (someone will reference her in another post) found a secret door into one. The party is now exploring lost lore and has just discovered a couple levels that haven't been touched by mortal hands in several millenia, but they have evidence that is was built by one of the Runelords (not sure if they've determined which one yet, I'll have to check back).

Male Aasimar Master Summoner / 6

Baby woke you up huh?

Yup. Can't get back to sleep. Suck.

Cool. I am aware of the bridge in Magnimar Did not know about the pilings and the animal motifs. Ok, the rest of you, feed me. :)

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Will need some help filling in the blanks...

We are all young members of the Pathfinder Society, stationed in Magnimar and working for Sheila Heidmarch, the local boss. She sent us after one of her rogueish associates, a certain Natalya Vancaskerkin. The manhunt spanned through Magnimar and we interacted with a few nefarious criminals along the way. We learned that Natalya had ties to the Sczarni, and more recently ran with a gang of burglar women called the Tower Girls.

We eventually found Natalya, but she was overcome by megalomania, and after a fight, she was defeated and captured. We learned soon after that her madness was brought on by an artifact she'd acquired in the Crow, a single shard of skymetal, part of a seven-sided star called a Sihedron. There's a lot of lore involved, but in short, the artifact was made by Rune Lords in ages past.

The shard we discovered, the 'Shard of Pride', had its negative side-effects neutralized by the placement of an ioun stone slotted within it. It bestows some intellectual benefits to the user, as well as an illusion power. Braelex holds this shard.

During the research and interrogation of Natalya (who's feeling much better now), we discovered the shard was taken from the Crow, the current lair of the Tower Girls, but there were other rooms within yet unbreached. Sheila sent us into the Crow to explore and learn more about the shard(s).

I'm sure I'm leaving out some major details...

Beyond the Puzzle Door

The Party started their exploration of the Crow by defeating he Tower Girl Sczarni gang whom inhabited the upper levels. Upon defeat of the Tower Girls, the Party would then find a Puzzle Door, covered with Thassilonian Runes. The Party would eventually decipher these runes and would enter the the lower levels of the Crow. After resting, the Party would descend and encounter the mite named Brik Brak. Brik Brak would safely lead them through a giant ant level to the mite lair where he introduced the Party to his insane leader, Zuuga. Zuuga would allow safe passage of the party through his level on the condition that they find and return his "crown", which was stolen by Clicky legs, his pet Cavefisher. Descending a level lower, the Party would encounter and defeat giant spiders and swarms before eventually finding and killing the Cavefisher. The Party would then descend to the next lower level to find numerous Thassilonian runes, statues and artwork. During this exploration, imps and other minor devils would be encountered. After battling the devils to a draw, the Party would be forced to retreat with the intent of leaving the Crow to regroup. But to leave, the Party must pass back through the mite levels and deal with the insane Zuuga, whom stands in their way of exiting the Crow ...

One thing to add Braelex, is that the current shard directed you to the Crow as the location of the next shard which is your main reason for being here. A suppressed shard (one with an ioun stone) when concentrated upon will give an image of the next shards location. Relan was actually the one to do this originally (he held the unsuppressed shard for a period of time).

Aidon, can you list off current unfulfilled quests for Relan as well?

I am willing to take over as Chronicler for the group, but you must forgive me if my records start with the next adventure. I'll try to go back and include the any active quests, but you will have to fill me in.

Link to the Loots

That list is the latest. Last chance to make any claims, otherwise I'll sell them off and tally up the split. Need Andel to get off his ass and identify the pendant.

That link is not working for me. It returns me to this page.

Post #406 at the top of this page has the Epic Bag of Holding Loots spoiler ... those are the magic items available for claim. Treasures and mundane items on there as well.

Thanks. I had seen that but was not sure it was the current list.

Relan would like to grab some of the mundane gear to flesh out his inventory. He is willing to "buy" it from his share though. Also, I'll point out that potions of Lesser Restoration are very nice as they can be consumed as a standard action. Casting the spell takes 3 rounds - not easily done in combat. So, Relan would like one of those potions if they are not spoken for and would buy the second one before he would let it get sold for half price.

He will ask for

1 Potion of Lesser Restoration
2 tanglefoot bags
a climbers' kits
1 50 ft silk rope
second-story harnesses

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Take what you need... there is plenty of the mundane stuff to go around. I'll hold onto the 2nd LR potion, unless someone makes a better claim for it.

While not quite at XP level for 4th, I guess I can say you're close enough ... and to prevent you worrying about coming out to train unecessarily, I'll let you level early whilst in town.

Everyone post your level 4 updates in discussion please and then update your profiles.

Prestige Awards under the Campaign tab are cleaned up for greater readability.

Need 3 more level ups, loot distro and a lot more input in downtime. Braelex is tied up in real world testing this week. Anticiapte info from her this weekend.

Still need a quest recap, Aidon ... recommend passing off to Relan* if you'd like since he's offering.

Need a date and weather check from Fulmen as well.

M Human Level 10 Fighter (Lore Warden) HP 117/121 AC 27 (30 Expertise) (+15 Perception; +4 Init; Fort +12, Ref +11, Will 7+4 vs fear) +2 vs transmutation and necromancy)

OK, I read through the prestige award section. Its very similar but not quite exactly the PFS Prestige and Fame rules. I suspect that was intended. My question is, at 4th level, we only have 3 prestige? Forgive my lack of understanding, as you may have no intention of tracking close society play, but in PFS average play is currently designed to earn 3 PP per level. In the earlier years (Years 0-3) you earned closer to 6 per level.

And is fame simply the total of all prestige ever earned, spent or not?

Prestige is built into the AP and actually wouldn't be awarded until the very end of each chapter, as written. And it's only 6 to 8 per chapter. James Jacob's rationale is prestige equates to wealth and with the shards and ioun stones that you get as part of the main story line, Shattered Star characters are significantly over WBL on average.

That said, I've incorporated prestige into the questline so you guys can get it and reap the benefits of it earlier. (You're also hitting level 4 earlier than I had originally intended, but it's a good break point).

As a note, if you complete all side quests, you'll end up with more prestige than the AP awards for completion (I did this since I anticipate you'll likely miss a couple here and there).

Your description of Fame is accurate.

I assume it's based loosely on PFS play, and it may be an intent to get folks familiar with some of the concepts. In general, based on the boards I think the "Everyone is a member of the Pathfinders" adventure hook fell a little short for many. I personally like it ... very throw back to old school D&D for me. Lots of dungeons, dynamic set ups ... much more focus on the "get the artifact/whack the bad guy" but with plot. I didn't mind the Pathfinder railroad ... thoughts from the rest of you?

M Human Level 10 Fighter (Lore Warden) HP 117/121 AC 27 (30 Expertise) (+15 Perception; +4 Init; Fort +12, Ref +11, Will 7+4 vs fear) +2 vs transmutation and necromancy)

I am a PFS fan, as we have discussed, so I like it. :)

Working on the loot tally...

Actually, still waiting on the pendant ID from the DM...

Do the Pathfinders want the Varisian journals? Any payment for those?
