I also have like 10 weeks worth of trail rations. It was 35gp and I had just created a bag of holding with nothing to put in it, since they don't really go bad I stocked up.

Epik will detect evil on the figure as he approaches.

"Creating Sir. Who are you and what brings you to this blasted land?"

How large is this figure?

Epik:
He is not evil

Dalamus, he is just shy of 7 feet tall ... picture added to your journals

As the figure closes, you sense him huffing a bit. He waves to Epik to indicate he heard and takes a small respite before muttering, obviously a bit winded, "Never quite get used to needing to breathe ... funny that."

He clears his throat and responds directly to Epik, "I am Kaurophon, sent by the power of the Smoking Eye to guide you from ..." he looks around ... "wherever you seem to have landed yourself, to the plane of Occipitus. You've been marked by the deities of good to cleanse this place of evil and return it to the light."

Muttering again, his hood looks left and right, "By the Gods, this place is atrocious ... a prison?"

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 10

"Kaurophon, you will forgive us if we are wary of strangers in this semi-infernal prison plane, but who is this 'power of the Smoking Eye' you serve?" Nowzai stands, leaning on Alakast prominantly.

"Certainly, your suspicions are part of why you were chosen. Your ability to decipher right from wrong when wading through the gray is what drew the attention of the various deities who watch the plane of Occipitus. The Smoking Eye is the unharnessed power of that plane. The former ruler of the plane who disappeared years ago, created the Test of the Smoking Eye. Whomever passes that test gains the power of the Smoking Eye and becomes the new rightful ruler of Occipitus."

He notices your confusion and consternation and attempts to explain more, "I've been sent to guide you to that test ... you know that you've been watched by beings of great power and goodness in the region. They are affiliated with this plane and wish you to claim it for the cause of good."

Knowledge Planes DC20:
You recognize the name of the plane of Occipitus as a layer of the Abyss that most demons regard as cursed or haunted. Depending on your knowledge check, you may know more.

I will also cast Detect Magic and see what I can about him

Sam looks over the newcomer carefully, "Where exactly are we now?"

Sam or Knowledge Planes DC 35:

Occipitus was formed millenia ago when a fallen celestial named Adimarchus led a demonic host to attack the Mountain in Heaven. He was repulsed, but at great cost to the angelic host as they were forced to cast part of the Mountain into the Abyss, tearing apart the very fabric of Heaven. That massive chunk of Heaven landed in the Abyss and became Occipitus.

Occipitus is dominated by a half-buried skull, the size of a mountain from which perpetual flame spews from its visible eye socket. Surrounding it are parts of Heaven mixed with the original evil forming a strange, living landscape.

"I'm not certain where exactly we are, but I'm assuming some sort of demi-plane carved out of the Astral. I've seen places like this before, small in detail, infinite in size ... built to bind powerful entities like the one you defeated."

He or what he's wearing radiates several types of magic ... strong conjuration, moderate evocation, moderate transmutation, moderate divination. Sam can't discern more than that.

Nemoris and Sam sense no dissembling

Male Human Paladin (Oath Against Fiends) 10; AC 21, HP116/116, Fort +17, Ref +11, Will +14, Init +1, Greatsword +16/+1(2d6+7/19-20x2)

Epik sheathes his sword, "It appears we have little choice but to follow your instruction. Tell us of this test. What is it that we must do?"

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 9 (AC 27 / Hp 83 / Init +6 / Fort +9 / Ref +10 / Will +7)

Sam frowns at the newcomer, "How did you arrive here? You say you are working with 'beings of great powers and goodness', but who exactly sent you to us?"

"I'm nearly as surprised as you to find myself here. I hears the prophet's voice in my head and found myself here. I suppose I am the Sign of the Smoking Eye.". He smiles ruefully.

"Let me explain a bit of my background to help you understand why this seems to make sense. I've travelled the planes for hundreds of years. I was born of a dalliance between a fallen angel and a mortal. As such, I found myself unwelcome anywhere. Eventually my travels and research brought Occipitus to my attention. It's struggle between Heaven and the Abyss appealed to mine own identity. I've spent many a year trying to understand this plane and the power that transfers from its ruler to whomever passes the Test of the Smoking Eye. That power is that of a god, but it is not a god itself."

He turns to Sam, "So to answer your question, no one sent me since no one holds that power, yet. I hope you may remedy that."

Always impress when you have that kind of a write up on Watfinder

Sam nods, "Fair enough, I too suffer from a mixed heritage that I had no control over"

"How would you suggest we get to Occipitus? We sadly do not have the means to shift planes ourselves without being able to research somewhere to create the focus needed."

"I will take you and accompany you as a guide on your journey."

Dalamus remains quiet, not sure what to make of this whole event..

Epik nods, "Lead on, then."

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 10

Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (11) + 27 = 38

"And what would they have us do with this 'power', should we pass the test?" Nowzai asks, still skeptical.

"Bring Occiputus out of the Abyss and back to Heaven would be there desire, I should assume. Or rather, I should hope."

The large man shrugs, "But who knows the desires of the divine?"

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 10

"Indeed."

If we're ready to press, everyone baseline their memorized spells by the end of the day Saturday ...

3rd—good hope, magic circle against evil
2nd—eagle's splendor, eagle's splendor, resist energy
1st—bless weapon, divine favor, divine favor, lesser restoration

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 9 (AC 27 / Hp 83 / Init +6 / Fort +9 / Ref +10 / Will +7)

Don't forget Epik that Eagles Splendor won't stack with the headband of Cha. I think I made you one, I honestly can't remember.

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 9 (AC 27 / Hp 83 / Init +6 / Fort +9 / Ref +10 / Will +7)

Sam will ask Kaurophon "What can expect to find on Occiputus? What should be be prepared for?"
