"So, we may have some margin, but we may encounter delays on the road or finding a priest. We must still get back to Cauldron as soon as we can."

Male Stonechild Stonechild 4 / Fighter 2/ Cleric 1 (HP 92 AC 24) (Fort 16 Reflex 7 Will 9 )

how long did it take us to go from madman to evil kt temple? and what time is it?

About 12 to 14 hours I think we decided. It's late in the day

Male Stonechild Stonechild 4 / Fighter 2/ Cleric 1 (HP 92 AC 24) (Fort 16 Reflex 7 Will 9 )

We should rest the 8 hours and then we can push all the way to the cauldron

Cauldron is still 2-3 days away.

Give me a plan. Right now I have the following understanding:

  • Release prisoner
  • Strip Zenith of armor
  • Rest - yes/no
  • Forced march - yes/no

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

-Release Prisoner
-Strip Zenith of Armor/Weapons/Belt
-Rest yes
-Forced March yes

I agree, with the addition of me not needing a rest at this point (but as most of us have pointed out, I'd rather not split up the party).

If we do decide to rest, Epik, can you lay hands on a few of us that are injured? I also think we need to setup a watch, and possibly move a bit further from this area, or at least find a defensible position.

Tike anything back about that spoiler? I might have just missed it and wanted to make sure!

Nemoris, just waiting for this piece to be resolved, then I will answer

Rest yes
Force March yes
Move further away from KT temple, find defensible position yes

Perfect, thanks! Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something or it had gotten lost in the shuffle.

Male Stonechild Stonechild 4 / Fighter 2/ Cleric 1 (HP 92 AC 24) (Fort 16 Reflex 7 Will 9 )

If we are resting, I will switch my armor when we leave

"Well, I guess we can rest, but we will have to march as soon as possible tomorrow."

Epik nods at Nemoris,"Yes, I can provide healing to any whom need it."

"I volunteer to take the first guard shift. We should strip Zenith of his armor and bind him, just to be safe."

Who needs healing? How many HP are you down?

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

Dalamus is at 21/44

I should be good with just one heal. Thanks Epik.

The Way Back

The party hits the other side of the water and treks up out of the Darklands, the eerie quiet of the cavern after the cacophonic destruction of the kuo-toan temple feeling somewhat unsettling.

Eventually they find a place to rest and strip Zenith of his armor, which he allows without helping, but without interfering. Healing as much as they can, they set back off into the outside world. The bright sunlight hits them all just shortly before the humid heat begins to settle in, the coolness of the underground passage having long since slipped away.

The party honors their promise and cuts White-Eye free. Nemoris, who had set some extra traps the night before, gives the thief some food and escorts him to the edge of the jungle path, giving him a couple landmark references.

Nemoris:
The wererat twitches his nose at your questions, "You know, that's generally considered rude for those not of the people to ask those questions, but you did let me out of that place that was sure to be my grave, so I'll answer what I know ... which is very little. I know only of a couple others that I ran into in Cauldron. They were like me, but part of the Last Laugh guild there. I haven't run into any other species, although I heard of the baboon creatures you mentioned."[b]

Jokingly he asks, [b]"Want me to bite you? You could learn a lot more firsthand, though those first few months really suck for the infected?"

He does pronounce his name for you, but it sounds like a series of squeaks and screeches and try as you might, you can't quite get the inflections down.

More in a bit ...

The First Night

Coming down out of the mountains, you pass what's left of Crazy Jared's "palace", a burnt out wooden hovel and a few stones. Pausing for a moment for a meal, you press on down the mountain path and back in to the jungle.

After a day or two in the cold, quiet of the Darklands, the noise of the jungle is nearly deafening. The bugs and the constant chittering of the monkeys and lemurs, combined with the fatigue of your lingering injuries and the forced march make it a welcome moment when Epik finally calls a halt late into the evening long after the sun sets.

It's here, sitting around camp and preparing to hunker in for the evening that you hear the first roar. A long ways' off but the tone and timbre are unmistakable.

The All-Father was not buried forever.

Thanking the various gods you worship that you didn't start a fire this evening, you listen as the roars get louder and louder. Hunkering down, gripping your weapons and fighting against the cold fear that tightens in your chest, you all see the stars black out above you as the winged shape glides silently by in the night. The familiar intake of breath and splash and sizzle of acid precede a piercing shriek of something ... else.

And for a few tense minutes you wait without hardly breathing.

But the beast doesn't turn around, nor does it linger and eventually you relax. You set double watches for the night, but no sign of the beast is seen by everyone.

Homecoming

The next morning you set off, and nearly immediately stumble across the recipient of last night's attack. At first, it looks to be nothing more than a parrot ... one the size of an elephant. It's colorful plumage is marred by the melted center. The only misnomer, other than it's size and the fact it's dead, is the blood-spattered beak.

Shaking off the grisly sight, you resume your intense march through the humid and active jungle.

Pushing through the day, you come upon familiar territory late in the afternoon and shortly before sundown, you come upon the city.

1 gp tax to enter ... Where to now?

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

"Oh Cauldron how I missed you so"Dalamus smiles with great relief.

"I guess the first order of business is to find a priest that can raise Sam, and aid Epik and I of that wicked magic that has left us a shell of what we once were"

How much do we have in Gold collectively? I have 1550

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 7 (AC 21/(27) / Hp 72 / Init +4 / Fort +8 / Ref +7 / Will +6)

I think we are each getting like 6k gold for returning the dwarf, if the NPC's play fair.

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

The real question is, how much are we getting for returning you!! :)

-5000 for the raise dead give or take ... prestige points can aid with that as well ... then there are the restorations ...

Speaking of neg levels, we can assume that Epik and Dalamus will eventually make their saves and get theirs back.

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 7 (AC 21/(27) / Hp 72 / Init +4 / Fort +8 / Ref +7 / Will +6)

Well depending on the downtime I can make any wonderous item that your little heart desires for half the price of buying it, so there is that awesomeness I can do for the party

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

Sam I think I am going to have a shopping list for you...lol

Oh wait, we are still broke! Nevermind...

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 7

Nowzai absentmindedly pays the toll and walks through the gate, looking haggard and tired. Belatedly, he responds to Dalamus. "No, we must deliver Zenith to his family first. Then we can see to Sama'el."

Where were we staying again? I'll have the level up done soon.

Male Half Elf Rogue 7

Nowzai, surely we could leave Sam with the priest beforehand. It takes some amount of time to aid Sam, and as we talked about, time is limited. Zenith can wait another hour or so, but Sam may not be able to wait."

DM:
Thank you White-Eye, I appreciate the information. There's something that's connecting me to your kind, although I'm not sure what it is. I think I'll hold off on making the change myself though!

The only benefit I see to attending to Zenith first is we can show Sam, and our grievous wounds, so they understand what an undertaking this was. I want to be sure that this isn't taken lightly, and they understand that this nearly cost all of our lives.

Male Human Paladin (Oathbound Paladin - Fiends) 7; AC 22, HP 49/74, Fort +11, Ref +7, Will +9, Init +1, Longsword +10/+5(1d8+8/19-20x2)

"Yes, I agree Nemoris, let's deal with Zenith first. Let's take him back to his family and be rid of him."

Male Stonechild Stonechild 4 / Fighter 2/ Cleric 1 (HP 92 AC 24) (Fort 16 Reflex 7 Will 9 )

Pay the tax and go with Dalamus to raise Sam

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 7

Getting paid first might help with affording the raise dead... Just sayin'

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 7 (AC 21/(27) / Hp 72 / Init +4 / Fort +8 / Ref +7 / Will +6)

I am with Nowzai on this one ;)

The beauty of play by post ... flex time! I don't really care which one happens first and you can be at either or both locations

Leaving the Zenith

The party, dust-ridden and blood-caked, stumbles up to the Cusp of Sunrise. The attendant at the door raises an eybrow as you come through, but seeing Zenith, nods and allows you all to enter.

The common room is fairly hopping late in the evening as it is, and a few look at you askance as you blow in off the road. Several gasps and murmurs spread around the crowd as someone catches sight of Zenith and his name whispers around the room quickly until the entire room is silent staring at you.

Awkwardly you stare back.

Raising Sam

Where would you like to go ask? When Nowzai was raised, Jenya had to call in help from the Temple of Pharasma. Note, that was before the new high priest showed up

Male Human Paladin (Oathbound Paladin - Fiends) 7; AC 22, HP 49/74, Fort +11, Ref +7, Will +9, Init +1, Longsword +10/+5(1d8+8/19-20x2)

There's a temple of Iomedae correct? If so, let's take him there.

Male Stonechild Stonechild 4 / Fighter 2/ Cleric 1 (HP 92 AC 24) (Fort 16 Reflex 7 Will 9 )

i agree with Epik let go to temple Iomedae and ask for Jenya

Bowing before Jenya i say

We went with songs to the battle, We are young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
We were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
There fell Samuel Against an Evil Cleric without fear.

We shall grow old, and tell tales of out deeds to the young:
Age shall not weary us, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember the evil that we vanquish.

We ask for your help to return Samuel to us;
So we can be laughing comrades again;
To sit at more familiar tables of home;
We still have more Evil to Vanquish

We ask you to help us raise Samuel to do battle again

Male Human Wizard (Conjuror) 7

Leaving the Zenith

Nowzai looks for a sign of Celeste or Dakved in the crowd.

Dalamus will clear his through to break the silence"ehem...We have returned with your most beloved Zenith as requested. This was not an easy task, but here we stand with Zenith"

Dalamus will lead Zenith forward and step back
