Lord Vhalantru *NPC* |
Making assumptions for Dalamus ...
Leaving the Zenith
Dalamus steps forward to inspect the chest and as he gets within about an inch of it, the lock clicks and turns on its own and the lid opens up. Peering inside, the half-elf gasps.
The rest of the party looks into the chest, sitting on a table and the see a finely crafted stone staircase leading down into a well-lit stone chamber. Glancing back out of the chest, there is certainly nothing under the table.
Lord Vhalantru smiles widely, "The Splintershield Vault ... literally. Your reward is in there, but you are welcome to take the Vault as part of your payment as well. As for me, I need to get Zenith to Davkhed quickly. He is on his last legs and I believe he'd very much like to see his son! I'll see you upon my return, I'm certain!"
The noble takes Zenith by the arm and gently leads him toward the stables waving to you one last time as he departs.
Jenya Urikas *NPC* |

"Nowzai, I understand ... I think it's highway robbery as well. The merchants' grumbling has been getting worse by the day, and less and less people are buying anything ... to include food, due to the exorbitant taxes. Theft and vandalism are up, and some of the smaller merchants are shutting their doors! The Temple of Pharasma may offer some options as well, but they've been shutting their doors recently to those that need assistance. I'm not certain if it's their way of protesting the tax or if they are focusing on something more spiritual. If you can get a hold of them, they may have more ... ability ... to negotiate some alternative to payment," she looks over her shoudler cautiously before she adds in a whsiper "This new leadership seems much more concerned about getting our money's worth than about helping others."
In response to Epik's questions ...
Jenya is startled at first by the question and almost begins to shake her head before she pauses and considers. "You know, given the current circumstances, I may actually be able to escape for a bit. HE doesn't seem particlarly fond of having me here, especially as he methodically undoes all the policies and processess that Sarcem and I put in to effect.. Let me work some things here and ensure I'm prepared. When were you thinking of departing?"
Magma Iron Clan |
Brother Epik I think you should keep your longsword and enhance it's ability with holy or flaming to deal extra damage. The longsword is made from Adamantine which by passes dr.
If you take some enhance weapon training you could double your damage dice for the longsword (vital strike feat)
If you wish for me to make you a bastard sword I would be honored to do so.
What do we have for special materials in the city

How big is the chest?
You can't put that chest in a bag of holding right.
Let's not try that :)
I'm for taking Sam to another temple to see what we can work out. If it boils down to it though, I think we're happy to spend the extra to raise him.

Might be worth asking those guys at least
Nowzai al'Nazari |
Leaving the Zenith
"Thank you, Lord Vhalantru," Nowzai bows respectfully. "Oh, and here..." He reaches into his backpack and takes out the Splintershield banner. "Davked will like to see this, also."
Nowzai's suspicion subsides considerably as the chest reveals its magical nature. Fascinated by the dimensional space within, Nowzai eagerly follows Magma inside.

Raising Sam
Nowzai nods to Jenya. "Perhaps the Temple of Pharasma will hear us out, or offset the cost with some good service. If needs be, we will return. Thank you again."
"As far as joining us, we have no plans currently... but when something comes up, it will be good to have you at our side." He adds a rare smile.
DM Fflash |
Leaving the Zenith
Lord Vhalantru wrinkles his brow in a slight moment of confusion at Nowzai and then says, "Ahh, yes, of course. Almost forgot about that!" He gathers the banner up reverently and takes it with him.
Stepping up onto the table and then down into the chest is much like descending from an attic. The stone stairs are very steep and you find yourself holding on to the edge of the chest to guide your way down.
The room below is about 15 x 15 with an 8 foot ceiling. Tables and shelves are all throughout the room although most of them are empty.
One holds 180 neat stacks of 20 platinum pieces and six sealed envelopes emblazoned with the symbol of the Cusp of Sunrise in wax.
There is one desk with a chair and an open ledger. The ledger annotates the history of items and money in the vault and ends with a complete withdrawal some couple months back. A new line writes as you open it starting with a list of your names as new custodians and continuning with 2 more lines:
- Reward for returning Zenith Splintershield to his clan: 6,000 gold pieces to each of the aforementioned owners, payable in platinum.
- Lifetime membership to the Cusp of Sunrise to each of the aforementioned owners
Something brushes by you and you see some dust gathered up into the corner and then disappear into a small cyclonic swirl. Squinting, you see a very transparent dwarf in the livery of Clan Splintershield holding a broom.
In game terms, the chest is a permanent mage's magnificent mansion with the following functions/limitations:
- The room can't change size or shape
- No food is available
- One unseen servant commandable by current owners
- If the chest is moved, it takes 24 hours to "reattune" to its new location. During that time the Vault is unavailable
- The chest is always locked (DC35 to pick) and alarmed to anyone other than the owners
- The owners can change ownership by writing the new names into the ledger of the Vault. All 6 owners must do so

So on to the Temple of Pharasma?
Dalamus Othreleth |
Sorry for the delay in responding. I just replaced my PC and I had completely forgotten to check in. I will work out the character development stuff a little later
I am all for finding a good price to resurrect Sam, but we need to be mindful that we do not have unlimited amounts of time to shop around. Lets be mindful of more than just the cost. I am certain that Sam would spend the extra coin to raise any of us, if it was necessary."
These taxes are insane....next mission, overthrow the government!
DM Fflash |
Raising Sam
The party, tired still from their excursion, takes the long trek to the other side of the city to the Temple of Pharasma. A massive cathedral in an older gothic style, the building is not reminiscent of most modern Pharasman temples and is rumored to have been acquired and converted from a forgotten obscure deity.
The complex carries a dark and intimidating look. Surrounded by a massively tall iron fence, a chain and huge iron lock encircle the gates. A hand written note is afixed to the gate:
High Priestess Embril Aloustinai is away on church business. As such, regular services have been cancelled. If you have need of funeral services or remains disposal, leave a note with the name of the deceased, their desires, and an address where the body can be picked up
A small locked black iron box with a slot in the center is attached to the base of the fence near the gate.

This guy, he get's it
DM Fflash |
Raising Sam
Skie has the scroll for sale at her currently listed price.
A quick visit to the "Temple" of Sarenrae, which is more of a one-room shrine, brings you to encounter a bleary-eyed Kristoff, trying to get some sleep before his early service to the Dawnflower. You note the place is quite tidy compared to your last visit. Kristoff apologizes to the party, but the spell you're requesting is out of his reach and as he hasn't been able to bring many others to the church, he doesn't see it being something he'll attain any time soon.
Dalamus Othreleth |
"now'zai...I have known a few. I am not sure how quickly I can contact them now, but I could certainly look into it, if this is something we really want to check out"
How about access or knowledge of the Red Mantis assassins. This could be a good tie in. Rather than looking to the Last Laugh
Epik |
Epik turns to Dalamus and Nowzai, "I'm not interested in doing business with criminals. There's at least one more temple that we can check."
Epik will go to the Temple of Cayden Cailan (sp?)
DM Fflash |
Raising Sam
A quick jaunt to Skie's turns up the scroll is still there and she warmly accepts your magical items for sale (no tax on those sales either) and sells you the scroll.
"Please, now, come tell me of your most recent adventures and where you got these wondrous things! I know you need to run off and take care of your friend, but I expect stories! And I need to put your name on my store. You've given me more business than most anyone in a year or more! What shall we call you?!" the sprightly gnome hollers after you as you rush to meet up with Jenya.
Later than night, Jenya arranges to meet with you at the Drunken Morkoth and takes care of reading the scroll in one of your rooms. She casts a quick prayer (read magic) to decipher the scroll and then cracks her knuckles and reads it aloud.
With a gasp and a cough, Sam sits up, squinting his eyes blearily at the blinding light that stabs at him.
Jenya sits back and smiles a trickle of elation showing through, "That's a first for me!"
Caster Level Check DC10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16; success!
This officially ends Chapter 4: The Zenith Trajectory and starts the interlude to Chapter 5: The Demonskar Legacy. We are entering serious flex time, so PLEASE ENSURE YOU USE TAGS! to avoid confusion
DM Fflash |
INTERLUDE
AGAIN, PLEASE USE IDENTIFYING TAGS ON ALL YOUR POSTS
The caretakers at the Cusp of the Sunrise won't let you leave the chest behind. They have humidors and small lockboxes for guests but don't have anything large enough to handle the chest.
Everyone needs to let me know where they're staying. The Drunken Morkoth is still free for you, but it's a middle of the road inn with single rooms with windows and poor locks.
The Bluecrater Academy does offer rooms to enrolled students and assuming you're current on studies (I believe it's time to roll) you can stay there at half the cost of living expenses in the CRB.
Magma's Aunt has one room available and Gurzenon will rent a room in his smithy to a follower of Torag.
Meerthan and company have a spare room, very sparse, but it's in Hollowsky for anyone to rent at half cost.
Other rooms are available for rent or purchase per CRB cost of living (for rental) plus tax or real estate purchase per the discussion tab. Note if your plan to purchase real estate, there are no furnishings and you'll have to go through some bureacracy and property taxes to do so.
Anyone crafting needs to post the item they're making, the time it's going to take, the cost of the materials to start, and then make the rolls. Update costs based on any failed rolls, and rememember if you're crafting magic items and subsituting requirements, the DC is +5 for ones on your spell list, but +10 for ones not on your spell list. You do have a priest and wizard in the party to aid in those things and scrolls can be suitable subsitutes as well.
Don't forget to add in taxes for raw materials (10% currently for magical and rare materials, 2.5% for mundane ones)
I'll assume you're making items in the order that they are rolled and all rolls for a particular item need to be in one post
Jenya
Happy to join the party, Jenya continues to live at the Temple but makes time to visit with you all regularly to get to know you better and to fit in your dynamic.
Shensen Tesseril
The druid has taken over running the operations of the Lucky Monkey and has hired a completely new staff. When you visit, you note things are looking prosperous and she mentions that she receives regular letters from the young owner (spaced his name) who is away at school courtesy of Lord Vhalantru. She reads a couple to you and it seems as if he is having a very positive time.
She is quite thankful she's out of reach of Cauldron's tax man and many of her people come to visit for that reason. Taxes seem to be the only thing on most people's minds these days.
Faro and Fellian
The half-elves spend the majority of time pursuing new leads on banditry in the area and missing/abducted travelers ... many who are found again as undead or just dead.
If you wish to engage with other NPCs in the city, just ask

Do we go thru the temple or can Jenya handle the negative levels on Sam
You just took care of the raise dead above ... As a level 7 cleric, Jenya should be able to cast 2 restorations after a day of rest, but it still requires a 1,000 gp material component per casting.
Speaking of which, ensure we identify where the money is coming from for all this ... off the top of the reward, I assume?

Sam gasps and then shivers and he lays on the bed, "What happened? Where are we?" looking at Jenya, "Who are you?" Sam groans and shuts his eyes tight and then snaps them open again and looks around and cries out, "Mord'ael!" He tries to sit up and is looking around frantically

Finding a Home
Epik will also rent a room at the Drunken Morkoth until we can establish a base of operations. He will help with investigating available houses for rent or sale.
"A small houses should be find. We don't need much - I don't expect that we'll be there much."

Crafting
You will have about 2 months of crafting time
Magma: Dragonhide armor will have to be masterwork so you need to make the masterwork component as well. Still not sure you you intend to give a bastard sword to, but if you make a greatsword for Epik and intend to enchant it, it also has to be masterwork. Greatsword has a DC of 15. Each masterwork item has a masterwork component that's made separately at a DC of 20. See Craft Skill for details on making masterwork items.
Magma: Holy is a +2 modifier which means you would pay half the cost of the difference between a +1 weapon and a +3 weapon (about 7,000 gp) to have it crafted, unfortunately, Cauldron's limit is 15,000gp right now and +3 weapons are 16,000gp total. Plus, Gurzenon can't cast holy smite, has a low Spellcraft score, and thus cannot enchant holy weapons. Recommend someone in the party take Craft Magic Arms and Armor and put some points into spellcraft if you wish to enchant your weapons to that level
Gurzenon responds to Magma gently, "My friend, you are the Church of Torag, here. Your fame has brought a few more faithful for services, and I believe you'll be happy to see that some of them show promise as blacksmith apprentices as well."
Living Arrangements
Assume whatever size house in whatever location you wish is available for purchase. Just gonkulate it out and someone draw up a floor plan. Houses tend to be crammed near each other with small alleys inbetween and behind, no gardens unless you're in the Obsidian ring.
Nowzai, I believe that entitles you to some prestige ...

"Friend Sam, Iomedae crusades against evil, but she is always looking to redeem those that have fallen. Your blood and heritage is nothing more than the results of your forebears decisions. What you do with your life is what makes the difference. Human or tiefling, we can make good and evil decisions that should be rewarded or punished accordingly"
Mor'dael slides out from where he was balled up in your shirt and coats your blade again.

So I will net it out for a couple of options
Assuming at least an 8 room house is needed. 6 Sleeping areas and I figure a kitchen and living area
Lava Area:
8 Room House will cost between 4800 and 7200
Magma Area:
8 Room House will cost between 8000 and 10,400
I figure it would look something like this
House Option
But it would be mirrored left and right sides for rooms. We could also use the front room as a potential store front.
I am not sure what the rules are if we wanted it to also be a shop where we could sell the loot we get and anything that we make but I personally like the idea of this. I hate getting 50% of the value of anything we bring back, we have left 10's of thousands of dollars on the table.
If we look at having a store front I will totally look at joining The Prophets of Kalisrade and and I think I may have enough prestige to get a Valet who could run the store and keep the house while we are off doing our thing (I think)
