He scowls at the demonic idol, "What foul evil is this?" He kicks out the stones under the statue and allows it to topple to the floor.

In the library, he peers at a random floating book and reads the open pages.

Sanctuary

Dalamus finds no traps near the altar or at the top of the stairs leading down.

Sam identifies the items as a +1 wounding spear and a +3 hot siccatite longspear

Siccatite:
This shining silver metal is either incredibly hot or freezing cold when found. Siccatite is associated with evocation magic, wrath, and kindness. As of yet, scholars have not determined whether siccatite is actually two similarly hued metals or a single type that determines its own temperature via some unknown process. When raw siccatite is found, it has a 50% chance of being hot siccatite; otherwise, it’s cold siccatite. Physical contact with siccatite deals 1 point of energy damage each round (either fire or cold, as appropriate). Hot siccatite can eventually ignite objects, and cold siccatite in water quickly surrounds itself with a 1-foot-thick shell of ice. A weapon made of siccatite deals +1 point of damage of the appropriate energy type each time it strikes a foe, but also deals 1 point of the same energy damage to the wielder each round it is used in combat. Likewise, siccatite armor deals 1 point of energy damage per round to a creature wearing it, and deals 1 point of energy damage each full round a creature is grappled by someone wearing siccatite armor. Cold siccatite armor grants fire resistance 5, while hot siccatite armor grants cold resistance 5. (The type of armor does not alter the amount of resistance granted.) Weapons made of siccatite cost +1,000 gp. Armor made of siccatite costs +6,000 gp.

Library

Epik and Nowzai enter the library and are immediately beset upon by a half dozen books each. They fly forward some smashing into the two and some hitting the ground. The ones that hit them burst into a blinding white light that radiates a power of great holiness. Neither of the two notice any ill effects and as they remain in the room several more books peel off and fly towards them several times, an irritant but not seemingly harmful.

Most of the books are ancient religious texts and hymnals of various celestial faiths.

Nowzai/Epik Appraise DC 25:
Three of the books you believe would be worth a significant price to a collector -- (1,000 gp each)

Meditation Chamber

Epik searches through the nearest pile, spending 10 minutes sifting through the trash and pulls out a platinum and teak music box (1,000gp).

Nowzai shakes his head, "With all my studies into planar phenomena, I should know, but I cannot recall reading about anything like that. Perhaps it is related to the conflicted nature of this place... a celestial site trapped in the Abyss."

Male Fetchling Slayer 7/ Red Mantis 5

Dalamus walks over to Epik and Nowzai "Be careful, this is clearly some sort of trap and you have both been smitten by its allure of holiness, remember the last room? A beautiful princess, a most divine looking room....All an illusion!! Stay on your toes! If we want a safe place to rest, we should retreat to the last room that we cleared and secure it."

Meditation Chamber

Noting Epik's luck, Magma takes 15 minutes and searches another pile turning up a rolled up portrait of some sort of winged half-serpent celestial (100gp).

Library

Nowzai is able to detect magic in the room and it all emanates from the flying books ... surprise! Alakast speaks "Interesting. It seems these books are infused with the holy protective power of whence they were originally stored. Sad to see them destroyed so frivolously"

The others enter the room and also get attacked by the books. Sam and Dalamus don't feel as comforted when smashed by the books, although Dalamus does seem to have a bit of black smoke emanating from him somewhere

Dalamus:

There is a telepathic scream in your mind as your blade hollers in pain ... GET OUT OF THIS HOLY HELL, NOW!!!!. You sense the blade is being damaged by the explosions of white light when the books hit you.

It will be some time before the books burn out and you are able to rest ... probably 30 minutes or so should you stand in the library and let them continue to attack.

If you are taking 20, you're not resting. Where would you like to search at 5 mins per square in the Sanctuary?

-Posted with Wayfinder

Male Teifling Bladebound Magus 13 (AC 29 / Hp 127/ Init +7 / Fort +13 / Ref +14 / Will +13)

Well we have watches, so I would be searching during my watch as I would say we could take turns doing that since we have 2 up at a time

I wanted to search the meditation chamber, not the sanctuary.

I will just turn left through the door and search a in those squares. Enough time to search several squares while on my watch

Meditation chamber is 30 mins per pile and it's imcredibly bad form to use your watch time after I've said there is no encounter.

Everyone else think they were going to use their time on watch to sift through junk? Or were any of you going to actually look out over the sleeping party?

Regardless, I'm not allowing it after the fact. If you wish to search in the morning, no problem.

I clearly said that resting here would give us time to explore and look for more treasures well before you said the night passed without incident

Male Fetchling Slayer 7/ Red Mantis 5

It shouldn't have any negative impact to search it after the party rests, and yes Dalamus will not be a happy camper to find out his watch was in another part of the this hell whole searching for treasures :)

Sama'el Val'varen wrote:

Right, which you are doing in the morning. Doing it during your watch wasn't specified since I bizarrely assumed you'd be on watch. But more importantly you took away the overly enticing opportunity to having you return from OFO to find Epik in the loving arms of Liuvash's sister.

You all have 115 squares left to potentially search in the meditation chamber. Take 20 is 30 mins per square or a regular perception check is a 10 min search. How many squares to you wish to search with take 20 and how many do you wish to search with regular checks?

Male Fetchling Slayer 7/ Red Mantis 5

Are you specifically directing this to Sam, because I believe others would want to search as well. There is clearly something that we are missing here.

Finishing your search, you proceed on to the stairway. You've noticed that it disappears during the flashbacks, so you wait for a bit for one to happen, before rushing down the stairs.

Antechamber

The stone stairway descends about forty feet, ending in a landing that opens into a square room roughly hewn from the granite underneath the cathedral. The heady scent of spices - cloves and cinnamon, among others - fills the air. Sitting at an oak desk in the center of the room is a withered, desiccated corpse covered in a strange mix of funereal wrappings and golden-filigree armor. Both the north and south walls have iron doors in them.

The corpse lifts both hands, showing they’re empty, then speaks:

“Adimarchus, Most Potent Ruler of Occipitus, bids you welcome to the Test of the Smoking Eye. If you are here, then Occipitus lies fallow, without a strong hand to guide its development. Know then that you are a pretender to Adimarchus’s throne. If you are worthy, step forward and undertake the Test of Judgment.”

One withered hand points to the north door. “Behind that door lies Thathnak, the bebilith.”

The corpse points in the other direction. “Behind that door lies Halalia, the avoral guardinal.”

“Choose one door, slay the occupant behind it, then pass through the door on the other side. I will meet you there.”
