Hrm. Well the ability is called 'horrific appearance' so I'm inclined to say the bonus against fear applies.
Will: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Siolad's colorful sparkles settle over one of the monsters but its multitude of eyes are unaffected.
Perhaps distracted by her disgust, Jessamy is unable to recall hearing of such horrible monsters.
Ensu is up.
DM Feral |
Ensu's bolt *splorches* into the side of the slimy monster to little effect.
The gnome's would-be victim points at the party firing off another blast of disorienting chaotic magic. The other flails at Pirknok with dripping tentacles of various sizes.
Damage vs Everyone*: 5d8 ⇒ (8, 2, 7, 5, 7) = 29
Everyone is also slowed (as per the spell) for 1d6 ⇒ 3 rounds. A DC 18 Will save reduces the damage by half and negates the slow effect.
If you're neutral (neither lawful nor chaotic) you are not slowed and you automatically take half damage (save for quarter damage). If you're chaotic you can ignore the whole thing.

I think while he's paralyzed those all hit. Dorf takes 3 + 5 + 5 + 2 + 1 = 16 and two more Con damage, Ensu takes 4 + 5 + 6 + 2 + 2 = 19. HP: 68/147. I think with that Con damage I'm probably out of rage rounds... unless someone wants to go back and count how many I've used and tell me I'm wrong. :P
Pirknok is buffeted by the enemy's many attacks, but they finally cause him to snap out of his disgust-induced paralysis and fight back. Taking a deep breath to quell his inner revulsion, he steps forward and brings his sword to bear! Activate haste.

Oh, damn it. I had two Will saves and deleted one (when I realized I didn't need it), but what was originally the second roll vs. the disgust was the 19 that became that first to hit roll. When I deleted the first Will save, I got the crappier result. So ... I guess just ignore that post? But let me save the attack rolls for next time? :)

Will Save *Lillend*: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 SERIOUSLY?!
Siolad, still disgusted, lets himself be pulled away by Jess.
The lillend's revulsion overcomes her as well.
Ensu, Cleric of Nethys |
Will Save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (16) + 17 = 33
Ensu is mildly annoyed but able to complete all his assigned jobs.
Anyone thing Anti-magic field is a good play here? I know that means all our magic goes away but I am wondering how it might affect the uglies?
Pirknok Stonemight |
Well, we should probably seriously talk about whether we're retreating or staying. Jess thinks we should retreat, and I'm definitely open to it... with DR we're not overcoming, it's looking like a long fight that we may not have the resources to finish the way we'd like.
I assume that if we decide not to retreat, the DM will let Jess redo her action, so let's discuss: retreat, or stay? Does your vote change based on how damaged the enemies look right now?
Siolad Andosana |
I'm opting for retreat, honestly. I need to re-tailor my spell loadout for these sorts of enemies anyway--and I'm not getting a lot of opportunities to unleash AoE attacks without hurting the rest of the party.
Jessamy Pierce |
I don't think anti-magic will help: I'm guessing the revulsion is supernatural or extraordinary, not a spell-like effect. And, yes, I'm trying to force a retreat. I think if we'd gotten to a point where I could have gotten sneak attack on one of them, we could have handled this, but we got stuck in this fight all wrong. Right now, Pirknok's the only one doing damage, while the rest of us are getting the poop kicked out of us.
Ensu, Cleric of Nethys |
I'd vote retreat. I would love suggestions on a rebuild of Ensu's spell load out too. Remember his Domain spells are stuck to his domain, but perhaps I need to have some spells that help all of you do things and deal with healing a bit different.
Pirknok Stonemight |
Alright, retreat it is.
Pirknok takes 13 and 2 Con damage, Ensu takes 14.
Will: 1d20 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 5 = 19
Pirknok roars in anger as he's tossed about like some giant-child's play-thing, but even his anger isn't enough to keep him from shuddering in horror at the fearful thing before him. Keep haste up, take the +2s from BoF.
Or retreat it isn't!
Jessamy Pierce |
So looks like Ensu, Siolad, Krojun and the lillend are paralyzed here, so far. I can probably drag the elf back, as noted above, while Ensu maybe heals someone and then retreats himself. Hopefully next round we roll better on our Will saves and if not, I can maybe advance to try to grab someone else and pull them back...
