The hideous demon holds up a clawed hand up. "By the layer of the Abyss that spawned me, I agree to your terms."

Pirknok glances over at Krojun as if for one final confirmation. Receiving it, he strides up to the demon and releases his inner anger, then begins to hack at the symbol on the floor which imprisons it. I'm not sure if I need to do a Spell Sunder or a dispel (which I only get "in addition to damage on an attack", and whether a Spell Sunder would be against the spell "on a creature" or not.

Spell Sunder: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
If that's a dispel check, I think the bonus goes down to +12.

Again?: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (2) + 22 = 24
Again!: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (8) + 22 = 30

Jessamy waits for the sudden but inevitable betrayal.


I'm alive! I'm moved in now and have internet but I won't have access to my desktop machine for another week so posting might continue to be spotty until then.

Despite Krojun and Jessamy's racist/alignmentist expectations, the giant demon makes no hostile move against the party after Pirknok's furiously smashes the unseen magical bindings holding it prisoner.

Cautiously, it stretches a flithly claw outside the bounds of the magic circle expecting some kind of retribution only to be surprised when there's no explosive rebuke.

"You've done it! Thank you mortals. I'm a nalfeshnee of my word. You and yours have nothing to fear from me - now or ever. All that's left is to figure out how to escape this silly pocket plane and get back to the Abyss", it says before awkwardly flouncing away.

Krojun watches the demon flounce away. "Suddenly I feel as if my prejudices were more my problem than his." He sits down to consider his life choices.

Welcome back. Did it tell us about the pool as it promised before it left?

Jessamy blinks a few times, her mouth hanging open as she watches the creature flounce away.

"That ... didn't go like I expected. But isn't releasing a demon kind of a bad thing?"

After a few more moments of disbelief, as if hope weren't killed just when she expected it to be, she gives herself a shake.

"Should we go dip our toes in the pool? No skinny-dipping, Pirknok!"

"In the view of the action, I am sure the releasing of a demon is a bad thing, but overall, I suspect we've balanced things out pretty well. We probably needed to do some evilish things to keep the Uncaring One off my back, if he cared..." Ensu proclaims.

Before running off the demon gestures toward the opposing hallway.

"The Pool of Elemental Arcana is a powerful font of magic but dangerous to those without a connection to the arcane - I'd suggest they keep their distance unless they want to be dissolved into a puddle. Using the pool is simple enough, all you need to do is immerse a magic item in its 'waters' and it will be powered up. I can't make any promises on how many uses it has left. Without its master to renew it I'm sure it's running on borrowed time."

Pirknok shudders at the thought of so much magic, but follows Krojun's lead and accompanies the group.


Silver beams support a domed ceiling covered in polished darkwood panels inlaid with spiky glyphs. Most of the chamber’s door ripples in an immense, forty-foot-diameter pool of deep blue liquid. Flashes of lightning and gouts of flame dance along its surface, punctuated by thunderclaps, hisses, and cacophonous shrieks. Vague shapes writhe in the currents below the pool’s surface.

Those without arcane spellcasting find themselves in a painful mental fog. Make a DC 18 will save or take 1d6 ⇒ 5 int damage, 1d6 ⇒ 5 wis damage, and 1d6 ⇒ 5 cha damage,

"Kif Namorakoh!" exclaims Pirknok in horror as they enter the room. His body wracked by shudders, he meets Krojun's gaze, eyes wide, and shakes his head, backing away from the pool's maleficent aura.

Jessamy quickly backs out at the gnome's urging, shaking off the momentary dulling of her thoughts.

Siolad watches as Krojun dips his axe in...

A piercing hiss fills the air followed by a cloying cloud of steam as Krojun's weapon slips beneath the 'water' within the pool.

When he removes it the whole head of the weapon shines as it was fresh from the forge. The axe's deadly-sharp edge glows with a soft otherworldly light.

Krojun's axe has been bumped to a +2 enhancement.

"Great ancestors! This axe has not been this whole and clean since this adventure began! Dip something else in there! Is it only good on magical weapons?"

"Do you want to try one of our weapons or items?" Jess calls.

Don't know how many uses we'll get; I've got a +2 giant bane dagger and a +3 human bane dagger, plus +3 armor... Anyone else want to take a shot at it? If not, I'll offer my armor.

I would not mind if my xbow got better, but I think I'd prefer to see Siolad get a bonus before me.

Siolad dips one end of his quarterstaff into the pool.

Siolad can physically feel the 'liquid' within the pool drawn up through his staff even though it doesn't seem to get any heavier. After a minute the staff stops drinking from the pool and begins to hum with newfound power.

Siolad's staff now functions as a ring of wizardry I and II.

By the time Siolad is done only a final few dregs remain within the pool of elemental arcana.

Krojun comes out holding his fancy axe made fancier and offers to take the breastplate in for Jessamy. Once in, he dips it as well!

It seems the pool's magic is indeed spent as Krojun removes the rogue's armor to find it only slightly more magicked. Almost nothing remains within the Pool of Elemental Arcana except the smallest drops of liquid magical essence.

The enhancement bonus on Jessamy's armor is +1 higher.

Krojun brings the armor back to Jess, shrugging. "It seems the pool is a bit spent. But it magicked my axe and Siolad's staff and your armor, Jess. Perhaps it will regenerate later?"

"Thanks!" Jessamy says happily as she dons the armor again. "I guess we should see what else we can find in here, huh?"

Jess doesn't know there are even a few drops left, so no help from me there. Also, Feral, was great to meet you at PaizoCon; sorry we didn't get to talk more!


That was a welcome surprise! I wanted to sit down and have a beer with you but my schedule was pretty tight all weekend. =(

There's no immediate use for the droplets of magical goo. Maybe something will come up later...

You need to get through all of them. I was just saying that only one of them is a mini-dungeon like the Vault of Greed. We'll say you hit that one next.

After a bit of meandering the party makes their way northeast. After a minute the hallway opens into an enormous cavern.

The air grows thick and foul-smelling in this chamber, yet the vaporous stink here is nothing compared to the insult to the senses elsewhere. Slime encrusts the walls in swaths of sickly brown and noxious green. A foamy sewage channel runs along a slippery walkway, the thickly shuddering skin atop the slowly churning fluid seeming to hint that, despite its repulsive appearance and smell, something lurks in those depths.

Everyone needs to make a DC 15 fort save or be sickened for an hour by the stench.

The ground here is slimy and slippery but moving across it out of combat is easy enough assuming you're not sprinting. I'll describe the mechanics in detail should combat become a thing but that's unlikely. =P

Which way? You can go northish or eastish?
