"Stoneskin makes your skin like stone--it'll help take the edge off giant attacks. Bull's strength boosts your strength, and mage armour puts up a force-field of sorts that helps deflect blows." Siolad steps forward and grasps his amulet.

"I didn't memorize any frigid touch spells, but my amulet should allow me to cast one on your blade. However, from what I understand, your sword will use up the magic on the first giant you whack with it, so it might be a good idea for me to save it until we're about to confront Mokmurian..." He rambles on.

That said, I think it makes more sense to give it to Pirknok, based on his worse AC. I don't think any of us can benefit from mage armor, as we're already wearing armor.

At the same time, Dorf can soak up more damage than Jess can, and stoneskin wouldn't stack with his existing DR (2)... I don't have a strong preference either way.

Keep the shield other on Dork..I mean Dorf. That way when he rages he still gets "healing". Siolad can probably cast things for a lot longer than I can, but I am going to have my spells selected tonight, hopefully. I think the problem we had with the first giants was everyone rushed in and all took damage and all of you were way out in the battle, so it was hard to reach all of you. If you see me casting a spell with extend, you might want to shift. I hate to blow a sanctuary to move around in melee, but I will. I think Dorf is okay most times with just shield other, but that does mean I need to heal myself a lot. When we get back to Sandpoint I need to pick up some higher healing wands and perhaps a wand of shield, would just allow me to not have to have it in slots. Maybe I'll pick up a level 2 pearl of power.


So where to? Conna told the party that Mokumurian doesn't often leave his sanctum which is somewhere on Jorgenfists's library level below. She doesn't know that level well but the passage down is to the southeast (the ramp the party passed up near where the trolls were).

"OK, well, I guess if we're ready, we need to go down to the next level," Jessamy says, making sure her daggers and swords are unobstructed.

Head to the passage down; let's give Jessamy the stoneskin since dorf has DR already that will help a little.


Returning the way they came, the party finds the stone giant halls still bear signs of the battle they fought but the bodies and most of the gore has been cleaned up. With Conna's aid they manage to avoid the increased patrols and reach the ramp leading down to Jorgenfist's ancient libraries. Fortunately it appears that the entrance has not been reinforced.

The gradual change from natural cavern to worked stone is finally complete after the long, spiraling descent into the depths. Where the walls meet, hard angles have been polished away to smooth but tight arcs that somewhat soften the transitions from wall to wall or to floor or ceiling. With no hard lines defining edges of rooms, the place seems subtly alien.

A pair of double doors stands in the southern wall of this room. The floor is made of glossy, polished black and-gray marble. To the east, what might have once been another exit has long since caved in. Yet nothing in the room compares to the curious effect that its walls have—looking into the room, it’s bizarrely impossible to judge the chamber’s exact dimensions. Any wall looked at directly remains stable, but through peripheral vision the walls everywhere else seem to stretch away into impossibly infinite gulfs, as if the room itself were somehow “unhooked” from its own physicality. The sheets of pale light that flicker across the walls only add to the disorienting effect.

The last 'feature' within the room is an immense giant, perhaps once a hill giant but now something entirely different. The giant wears a heavy hide breastplate and has a slightly hunched back and pale lanky hair. His arms and legs are twisted and monstrously overdeveloped muscles bulge and strain against his seemingly too-tight skin. He stares, dumbly, at the party but some element of animal intelligent kicks in and he lumbers forward to attack the intruders.

I also found a way to allow me to cast healing spells at range on people, but requires a bracelet...so after we get back to town we can fix that part. Pirknok frowns, studying the animal features of the giant before them. "We sure this is him?" he asks dubiously, before taking up a position in the front and thinking back to his time spent with Death. Keep my friends an' me. Take him.

Move forward 30', then give everyone a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for 10 minutes.


Jess you weren't in range for sneak attack.

The first of Jess's arrows flies far off course and the second fails to pierce the enormous giant's thick hide. Something flickers in its vacant eyes and the brute suddenly lumbers toward the party at supernatural speed. It's benefiting from a haste effect.

Closing on Pirknok much quicker than one would expect, the giant slams down on the dwarf with a huge gnarled club.

Jessamy's arrow flies far from it's mark but the enraged and alchemically hasted Pirknok lands three massive blows one of which involves driving his enchanted blade deep into the giant's belly only to unleash a burst of biting frost (previously charged by Siolad). Impossibly the immense brute stands and somehow pushes back against the dwarf despite his clearly mortal wound. It rears back and swings at Pirkonk again.

Nope. It missed.


Nethys's uncaring servitor arrives at Ensu's request but the angelic figure's arrows both clatter harmlessly of the giant's thick hide. Jessamy performs better, skillfully cartwheeling between the brute's legs and driving her athame into his thigh. The giant teeters and then falls to his knees where Pirknok brutally hacks off its head.

The lights on the walls dim down but their magic persists.

Perception (+3 vs. traps): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32


After a careful search Jessamy’s confident that whatever magics were stored in the walls are spent for now and there should be no danger of further shrinkage.

On the not-Mokmurian giant she finds nothing of value.

I'd vote for heading through the doors. Rubble clearing would be loud and time-consuming. Plus I'm half the man I used to be...

Despite a few of their number being reduced in stature the party ventures through the southern doors.

Runes are carved in bands along the walls of this chamber, which is unnervingly lit by a reddish glow from the slowly burning flames in a shallow firepit in the center of the room. An immense iron cauldron, its side emblazoned with an etching of a seven-pointed star, stands above these flames. Smoke rises from the cauldron’s unseen bubbling contents, and a halo of human bones and scraps of what might be dried flesh lie scattered around the cauldron’s three-pronged base.

Good aligned people need to roll a fort save for being in this room.

The smoke makes it impossible to see the entirety of the chamber but the walls that are visible suggest it extends quite a ways further.

Less than 20:
You’re blinded and sickened by the smoke until you exit the room and 1d6 ⇒ 4 rounds afterward.

"ACK! I can't see! EUGH--" Siolad starts coughing as the smoke blocks his view and causes his stomach to turn again.
