Filbert Springbit |
Filbert right now is going to want to stay towards the middle. He is just a jeweler, this adventurer stuff is all new to him.
Despite being one of the stealthier PCs
Luxina Tenebris |
Luxina is quite the adventurous type, I reckon she might be among the first of the group, though not always the first. More second or third.
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
While it's often the paladin who's considered to be in front, she lacks perception.
How about, front to back;
Momiji, Lizzie, Luxina, Filbert, Heinrich, Crystal?
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Agrippa is a leader, he'll be up front.
DM Fang Dragon |
Do you all like the fog of war effect? I thought about doing this before, but was never organised enough till now :)
Filbert Springbit |
Not sure about the Fog of War effect but I'm a bit foggy on your math...
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1 ---> HIT
Fort DC 13: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 ---> FAIL
Dex Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Just got in from work and playing catch up on the threads..
DM Fang Dragon |
Fear and sanity.
Due to the unsettling events, everyone is currently at 3/4 sanity. Various nasty things might cause sanity damage per the Fear and Sanity rules. You don't want to let this get to zero... A good nights sleep will undo some Sanity Damage, a bad night's sleep could make things worse. I'm going to rule in addition that divine healing magic also cures a little sanity damage, but not much (1 point per die).
Name, Sanity score, Threshold, Edge
Crystal, 28/38, 2, 14
Filbert, 28/38, 2, 14
Heinrich, 30/40, 3, 15
Lizzie, 26/35, 2, 13
Luxina, 27/36, 3, 13
Momijii, 25/34, 3, 12
There's a good chance you'll all pick up one or more minor phobias. Mechanically these probably won't do much more then give the shaken condition under certain triggers, but remember fear stacks... If you get cured of all sanity damage then all minor phobias go away. It's also possible that your character may face up to their fears one way or another and due to good RPing get rid of the phobia if it suits the story.
Note this is meant to make your characters and the story more interesting and atmospheric, rather than being a mechanic to bash the poor benighted PCs. If it turns out it's not working or it's working too well we can modify or drop it.
DM Fang Dragon |
Inspiration
I rather like the inspiration mechanic from 5e. For those not familiar with it, you earn a point of inspiration for good RPing. When ever you make a d20 roll, you can choose to spend your inspiration point and take the higher of two d20 rolls. You can only ever have 1 point max, and it's fairly easy to get hold of, so there's no point hoarding it.
Currently nobody has inspiration but that can and hopefully will change.
Luxina Tenebris |
Sorry for the late time posting, started my new job this week and it involves me getting up at 6 in the morning. Not used to the times yet.
DM Fang Dragon |
Sorry for the late time posting, started my new job this week and it involves me getting up at 6 in the morning. Not used to the times yet.
Hey no worries, thanks for letting us know.
Filbert Springbit |
For those confused by Filbert, he was a jeweler before all this started. Only ever using his mage hand abilty, the rest never having shown forth. Combat is a very new and frightening thing to him, he's definitely reactive not proactive except in moving away from danger.
DM Fang Dragon |
For any one d20 roll your character makes, you can choose to roll twice and take the higher result by using your inspiration point. It's like having advantage on a roll from 5e.
Crystal Delphi |
GM, thanks to her Spellbreaker archetype, Crystal has the Strong-Willed class feature: she rolls twice when making Will saves against mind-affecting effects and takes the best result.
Are madness & sanity checks counted as mind-affecting effects?
DM Fang Dragon |
Yes they probably should be. Thanks for pointing that out.
DM Fang Dragon |
Luxina let me know if you drag the shapeshifter corpse.
DM Fang Dragon |
Incidentally you may use inspiration if you wish a second chance at a failed nightmare check. For sake of argument if Momijii did so and rolled successfully, she would still have the nightmare but the scratches would be superficial and she would heal 1 hp overnight. Your sanity damage would remain however, you need proper sleep or divine magic to repair psychic wounds.
DM Fang Dragon |
Please post your Level 2 changes here. You can either take average HP or roll. When you level up you are remembering part of your former self - talents and so on you'd forgotten.

Some GMs apparently roll up characters for their players for this AP, and they don't even tell them what class they're playing. The PCs have to figure it out by trial an error (Hmm this sword feels somehow familiar. Great Scott I can cast spells!), I think that's going too far.

At 11th level, a cult hunter who fails a saving throw against a compulsion or poison can expend 1 use of his inspiration to reroll the saving throw (and his inspiration die, if added to the save). He must accept the result of this second roll, even if it is worse.
This ability replaces poison resistance and poison immunity.

Actually GM I've played in such a tabletop game before. We all had to deliver three character concepts and the GM chose one of those for us. We started the campaign naked and tied up, reasonably close together. It was strange, but very interesting to play like that.

The radius of normal and increased illumination of any torch held by a blazing torchbearer increases by 10 feet. Once per day as a standard action, the blazing torchbearer can create a brilliant flash of light that blinds everyone within 10 feet (including the torchbearer) for 1 round.
Might I warn others to close their eyes before I set this one off?
Poison Resistance +2
Discovery: Precise Bombs
DM Fang Dragon |
Yes you can do that, of course there's a chance they might not react fast enough in combat.
Edit: Winter is potentially an important NPC. I don't propose to have her join the party but if things go well, she may be in a position to provide clerical support and assistance into at least book 3. There may be other options if things don't work out however.

I'm going to keep a list of house rules in the Campaign Info tab. I don't anticipate making too many, but it's hard to predict everything. One rule I know I'm going to make is to modify the automatic bonus progression rules allow you to choose to get the physical prowess bonus before the mental one. I.e. at level 6 you can get a +2 to any physical stat and +2 to a mental one at level 7. Once made this choice is permanent.
It'll probably be Q1 next year before you hit level 6, still if we can keep the momentum up, get there we shall! You're just over 1/3 of the way through book 1, if anyone is interested.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
You might want to check those traits...
Unhinged Mentality [Link]

Requirement(s) Lamashtu
Your goddess-granted madness gives you a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against confusion, insanity, and fear effects.
I don't think Lizzie is a paladin of Lamashtu is she?
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Hmm....i was never aware of that, frankly.
It only described 'goddess-granted madness'
I built Lizzie using d20pfsrd.
That means i'll have to search the traits for a replacement.
Still, i'd pass it with what the GM rolled, not running in terror like a little girl is good.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Speaking of gods...who does Lizzie worship?
Edit: Archives of Nethys is in all ways superior to pfsrd. Since Nethys has permission to use IP (Like the word Lamashtu) since he doesn't sell anything on his site.

You might wanna read This awesome article
And take a look at
Paladin Code
The paladins of Shelyn are peaceable promoters of art and beauty. They see the ugliness in evil, even when cloaked in the form of beauty, and their mission is to defend those who devote their lives to the creation of beauty, bring it forth themselves, and prevent the weak and foolish from being seduced by false promises.
Their tenets include the following adages.
I see beauty in others. As a rough stone hides a diamond, a drab face may hide the heart of a saint.
I am peaceful. I come first with a rose rather than a weapon, and act to prevent conflict before it blossoms. I never strike first, unless it is the only way to protect the innocent.
I accept surrender if my opponent can be redeemed—and I never assume that they cannot be. All things that live love beauty, and I will show beauty’s answer to them.
I live my life as art. I will choose an art and perfect it. When I have mastered it, I will choose another. The works I leave behind make life richer for those who follow.
I will never destroy a work of art, nor allow one to come to harm, unless greater art arises from its loss. I will only sacrifice art if doing so allows me to save a life, for untold beauty can arise from an awakened soul.
I lead by example, not with my blade. Where my blade passes, a life is cut short, and the world’s potential for beauty is lessened.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
This trait might be a good replacement for the Lamashtu one.

Requirement(s) Shelyn
Your resolute devotion to the unadulterated purity of your goddess protects you from those who would manipulate you. You gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against charm or compulsion effects.
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Given we're in an amnesiactic state, i wonder how much she even recalls.
I've not played a class that's particularly devoted to any deity.
But clerics and paladins can also follow an aspect of the deity's portfolio, something that matches their own beliefs or ideals, couldn't they?
Lizzie's more into the luck & music enjoyment part of her portfolio.
....thus....
Are you sure you want this little gnome to spoil you all with poems?
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
It's up to you, but typically in Golarion the paladins of certain deities take that deity's code as their own. Honestly, why pick the goddess of love, beauty and art if that's not what Lizzie is into...or why be a paladin, why not just be some other class and worship Shelyn however you want. In my opinion, Paladins seek to emulate their god/goddess to the fullest, or else they would just be fighters who happened to worship that god/goddess.
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Well there's new archetypes of paladin, even bringing variety in the LG system.
In addition to my previous post, i noticed i had not assigned background skill points.
So i'll take 1 point to Artistry, and 3 points in perform (Poetry)
Edit:
While you've got some point there, i have no inspiration what i'd have to make it otherwise, currently. I've rarely seen gnomes take martial classes, the combination struck me as funny, plus the bonuses i'd give everyone from key levels onwards.
DM Fang Dragon |
I don't mind if you choose to worship Shelyn, but understand that's an unusual choice for a paladin and you need to obey (ideally be) the spirit of her code.
For what it's worth, knowing what I know now having read the first two books, I'd choose Saranrae. You all have checkered pasts, and did some things that are difficult to forgive. This is your shot at redemption.
Luxina Tenebris |
I've seen Gnome Barbarians and Swashbucklers. Next to that Cha-based spellcasters such as Bards, Oracles and Sorcerers are a good choice.
Bloodrager might also be a fun choice, putting your Con bonus as well as your Cha bonus to use.
Skald would also be a semi-martial character putting both Con and Cha to use.
DM Fang Dragon |
There's no need to change class, paladin is fine.
Luxina Tenebris |
I was just tossing up ideas for other classes for a next Gnome when Lizzie makes one.
If we're on the subject of deities and worship, may I keep my worship of Sivanah? She's the goddess of illusions and mysteries, as Luxina wants to hide her own skin complexion outside and she loves to discover mysteries, she seemed like a perfect fit.
Lizzie "beads" Tamar |
Hmm, had it not been for Nethys archive, looking up paladin codes would be a headache.
Reading her paladin code, it's indeed more fitting for Lizzie.
If you're fine with a swap, i'd take that.
I'd reckon i'd swap artistry and perform for handle animal and profession [Vetenarian assistant].
Since i was thinking earlier about the divine bond, either the weapon or mount, would a mount for indoor occasions be plausible to encounter?
If not, i'll stick to a Saranrae blessed scimitar.
Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa |
Honestly, I'm playing a human paladin of Shelyn in another pbp and I love it. But yes, its an "unusual" character, mostly because he never fights in the first round, its usually spells and an offer of surrender to any sentient creature.
That second round though....SMITE!
DM Fang Dragon |
If you want to change that's fine, you don't have to of course. Still nothing wrong with small shield + scimitar paladins! They are the iconic paladin and can put out frightening damage when smiting.
Sarenrae is the goddess of redemption so you won't be able to get away with the things a paladin of Torag or Ragathiel might. Still I actually don't think that will be a problem with this party.
