Lirotha Karsani |
Lirotha will nod in thanks to the warden and lead the others out. She then whispers to the others.
"We need every prisoner we can get here. If we leave even one of them behind...Look we will just have to try and 'convince' the Nidalese that it is in his best interest to release her. I don't know much about the Nidalese, but I'm pretty sure that intimidating a worshiper of Zon Kuthon is nearly impossible, and they are likely a spell-caster of some sort. We will have to be subtle and devious again. If it looks like we can't get her free, I'll call it by saying '...the night will not wait for us...' and we'll grab all the prisoners we can and get out of here. Let's go."
Oren Mitabu |
Oren returns a whisper. ”Are we to resort to violence? Would that violate any deal we might be hatching?”. She pulls her extract, thankful she hadn’t drunk it already today, suspecting true convincing might have to be done with her fists.
Lirotha Karsani |
Lirotha shakes her head grimly.
"I'm afraid we can't draw that much attention. We are in too deep now and we need to do this without violence if we can and if we want what's left of the Torrent knights on our side. Not to mention, assaulting the Nidalese ambassador would probably cause the Nidal government to join closer with Thrune against organizations like ours. It looks like, unless something unusual happens in the interrogation chamber, we will just have to see how persuasive Morricone really is. Who knows, maybe if we ask politely enough, the ambassador will just give her to us"
Even Lirotha seems unconvinced of her last statement.
DM Elan Morin |
As you exit Sabo's office a guard joins you and starts escorting you to the appropriate cells.
Noticing your disappointment the man informs you that the last prisoner isn’t available. You know Lierre is being tortured right now but you ask about her whereabouts anyway. In answering the guard appears nervous, but explains:“She’s been claimed by our... visitor. She’s got her in the torture room. It’s just over there... you’re free to head in and show your transfers to her if you want, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I won't be following you inside there for sure!”
Oren Mitabu |
Sense Motive 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Oren sidles up to the guard. ”There’s plenty of scuttlebutt about the visitor. Anything you can share with us? We’ve heard all sorts of stories about it.”
Lirotha Karsani |
Sense Motive w/Alertness: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 2 = 22
Lirotha gets a feeling...
"Do you have more to say, but fear to say it out loud citizen? I assure you, we mean you no harm and the prisoner DOES belong to us legally. Is there something about the Ambassador we should know about? I always say confession is healthy for the soul..."
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Ouch! Somebody else want to try?
DM Elan Morin |
The man studies you nervously before refusing Morris' money:“There's nothing much to say. Mistress Ghenemahl is a bonewhite woman with knives piercing her body and tears of blood staining her cheeks. I can't say she's what I like to think about when I get to sleep, honestly...” the man says, then considers:[]“She was sent here by the church, so that probably countermands your orders anyway, hmm? Oh wait... you are with the church. Well, I'm sure you'll have a lovely conversation with her. Now if you'll excuse me I'll get back to my other duties. I don't like when people scream too much and for too long. It ruins my appetite”[/b]
The guard excuses himself as quickly as possible, clearly afraid of this "Mistress Ghenemahl". Seems like you'll have to face her alone...
Rocco Hardweather |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Rocco tries to hold down his lunch as the guard describes the woman. This is not gonna be fun. What a nut!
DM Elan Morin |
You are left alone with the 3 prisoners, still inside their cells and an ominous door you need to open in order to save the last of the captive armigers...
New map up!
Oren Mitabu |
Oren downs her extract and leads the group into the room.
Lirotha Karsani |
We need to get the prisoners out first! Did they unlock the cells, or leave the keys for us?
Knowledge Planes(with book bonus): 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 5 = 20
Not sure what else to do, Lirotha stays with the prisoners for now, looking for the cell keys. If she can get their cells open, she will assure the prisoners quietly that they are here to get them out and away to their leader. She will then use her Healing Hex on each if she has time.
DM Elan Morin |
With a kick Valrani throws the door open and Oren rushes inside what looks like a very well equipped torture chamber, complete with a few spiky cages, an iron maiden against the east wall, and a pair of racks.
Within, a grisly sight awaits you: a pale, pretty young woman with long brown hair has been affixed to one of the racks in the chamber. She’s clad in rags and covered with horrific wounds—her right arm is partially flensed, and her pinky finger is missing from her left hand. A pale woman clad in wire and leather, weeping tears of blood and impaled by dozens of long, thin lancets is attending to her. Seems like you've found "mistress Ghenemahl". As she sees you, she smiles and speaks in an inhumanly discordant voice:“And who is this come to my court? Carriers of lies, each of you. I smell your falsehoods. Do you seek my aid in stripping them from you? I am but just started on this subject, so you will need to wait your turns, my hopefuls...”
After this, Ghenemahl moves back towards her subject, likely engrossed by the prospect of visiting more torture and scarnification on the poor prisoner...
I've come to realize I'm giving you too much information when you pass your knowledge checks. From now on we'll proceed using normal rules pertaining to the knowledge skills rules
Oren Mitabu |
”What is this creature,” Wren growls, unsure what she could do in a situation such as this.
Lirotha Karsani |
Leaving the prisoners to fend for themselves, Lirotha moves to the open door and gets a real look at the creature.
Knowledge Planes(w/book bonus): 1d20 + 9 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 5 = 20
You have GOT to be kidding me!
Lirotha hisses under her breath to the rest of the group through the doorway.
"Whatever she is, I don't think she's human, and the other prisoners insist they won't leave without the the one being tortured! Strike quickly now while her back is turned!"
Lirotha immediately tries her Slumber Hex, hoping the creature is not some form of Nidalese shadow-undead.
Will save DC16 or Fall Asleep...I hope.
DM Elan Morin |
Will Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
The strange woman doesn't seem to care about Valrani's words but she senses Lirotha's attempty to force her to sleep. She turns on her spiked heels and smiles:"Seems like you are the impatient little morsels... very well, I shall personally initiate you to the joy of pain, then!"

"Get the hell's away from her!"

DM Elan Morin |
Val and Oren both hit the kyton with their attacks. It just laughs at them:"Ah! You are like children! But you'll learn... oh, you will!".
Not accostumed at fighting with melee weapons Talon misses his mark.
And then Ghenemahl counterattacks, but she doesn't deign to move forward. She just places her sight on Oren and smiles cruelly...

Not sure what else to do, Lirotha pulls a Harrow card from her sash and throws it at the creature!

Choosing his words carefully to bolster his comrades morale but also to sound like an asmodean Morricone replies.
"You will pay for your hypocrysis and your false faith!"
Rocco Hardweather |
Rocco, frozen to the ground at the sight of the horrifying "woman", mutters a curse under his breath before moving in to join the action. He hangs back by Lirotha for the moment, however, and tries to figure out what he might know about this creature.
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
He then draws his kukri and prays that he doesn't have to use it.
DM Elan Morin |
Oren feels the full effect of the kyton's dread gaze. Morricone starts chanting in order to boost his friends' morale, Rocco draws his kukri (and prays). Lirotha somehow manages to wound the maniac outsider... but she only smiles and licks the tiny droplets of blood coming out of the wound her card opened...
I guess Kurglunn is out of the equation right now?

Rocco Hardweather |
Correct, he’s in Rocco’s consciousness, so he won’t be making an appearance independent of Rocco. He may have an impact through Bonded Manifestation at some point though. We’ll see...
Rocco steps up behind his companions and lays a hand on Oren’s lower back, lending her some magical aid to enhance her already impressive fighting abilities, and hopefully helping to keep her alive.
Could someone move me up behind Oren please? I’m moving up and casting Aid on her.
Oren, take a +1 morale bonus on attacks and saves against fear, as well as 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 temp hp that will last for the next 4 minutes

DM Elan Morin |
Natural 1 is always a miss in combat
Rocco moves near Oren and casts a spell on her hoping to help the tien to crush their opponent. Unfortunately Oren swings at the kyton but she's still way too upset by the creature's gaze and fails to mount a meaningful offensive.
Luckily both Talon and Valrani are more accurate with their attacks and wound the outsider... who just smiles at them:"You are too kind! I hope not to disappoint!" and then stabs back!

Kurglunn whimpers in Rocco's consciousness, but Rocco pushes both his and Kurglunn's fear to the back of his mind and calls on Kurglunn to protect him as he ventures into the fray. Now is not the time to lose focus. He concentrates on keeping her from attacking his friends and casts a spell on her to that effect.

Swift action to activate Bonded Manifestation and pull on Kurglunn to protect Rocco, granting a +4 shield bonus to AC. Move up 10ft and provoke an AoO, then cast Chill Touch (which would also provoke if she has Combat Reflexes or didn't take the initial AoO). If I hit, target takes the damage above. If she counts as undead for some reason, she needs to make a DC 16 Will save or flee as if panicked for 1d4+4 rounds.
DM Elan Morin |
Valrani manages to strike at the kyton again, despite the wounds she suffered. Oren recovers from the outsider's dreadful gaze and smashes her once with her right fist, while Talon misses with his mace. Meanwhile Morricone gets near the action. Rocco approaches as well and tries to casts a spell on the sadistic torturer...
