Lirotha Karsani |
Shrugging slightly, Lirotha will slip the magical ring on for now, so as not to lose it easily.
Not keeping it, just keeping it safe for now, so we CAN add it to the loot pool Rocco.
Moving to examine the side room, she tries to keep her eye out for danger or valuables too.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
@GM: I think we are more worried about more animated skeletons, magical traps, and possible magic items than anything else right now. Don't worry. =)

As the sun sets down and Lirotha starts examining the “Arcadian Mermaids” tank, something strange happens the remains of the two very dead "mermains" suddenly come back to life, and jump out of the tank hissing at the varisian fortuneteller!

If Oren can't see the two enemies, and it looks like she can't from the map, she will delay until trouble is pointed out to her.
DM Elan Morin |
Morricone recognizes the creatures as Undead Ningyos.
Valrani prepares herself to face the creatures by casting a spell.
Oren hears the commotion but isn't yet aware of the nature of the threat so she waits before acting.
The undead Ningyos on the other hand yearn for human flesh and jump on Lirotha to sate themselves with her meat!
Attack roll (red vs Lirotha): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 -> Damage roll: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Attack roll (yellow vs Lirotha: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 -> Damage roll: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Both of the creatures bite at Lirotha with unnatural hunger...
@Lirotha: They are small and when they attack they cause AoOs as long as you have a weapon on the ready

Hearing the commotion, both Rocco and Kurglunn move toward the room where Lirotha and Valrani had been investigating. "Hey, Oren, Morricone, I think we may be needed over here," Rocco calls as he moves toward the doorway.
Just going with a single move from each of these guys for now, given that they don't know the full nature of the threat. Props to Oren for keeping honest about the RP here.
Lirotha Karsani |
As a witch, melee is not my specialty, so no I did not have a weapon readied, which is a shame really. However I can perform my Healing Hex once per round with only a touch. Could I have used it to defend myself with an AoO? A active touch attack is considered to be 'armed' I think. If so...
Healing Hex Touch Attack!(Red): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Positive Energy; Will DC14 for 1/2: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"Get AWAY!"
Taking a step away from the Red one while drawing her starknife, she tries to blast the Yellow undead with her Healing Hex!
Healing Hex Touch Attack!(Yellow): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Positive Energy; Will DC14 for 1/2: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
The Hound Of Kintargo |
Hearing the commotion and seeing everyone run, The Hound assumes there's trouble and heads right for it at speed. He comes sliding in behind everyone and puts his musket to his shoulder and calls out.
"Back away from them!"
Ready action, as soon as he gets a line of sight and his teammates arent engaged, he'll take a shot at one of the undead mermaids.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 2 = 10
Touch attack within 40ft
DM Elan Morin |
Rocco warns the others about the undeads trying to turn Lirotha into a snack.
Morricone Steps closer to the fray stopping his chanting.
Lirotha moves away from the undead "mermaid" and uses her curative powers against the yellowish one causing its rotting flesh to sizzle on contact...
Talon prepares to shoot the undeads but waits for a clear line of sight.
I made a mistake with the rules: small creatures do not cause AoOs when attacking, tiny and smaller creatures do. Therefore Lirotha can't make an AoO but i'll keep her first roll as it was the attack against yellow (you can still use healing hex ahainst red by the way)

@Valrani: Feel free to post once your companions finished their turns without waiting for me. It may be that their actions change the effects and circumstances of your actions because they act before you do
Oren Mitabu |
Oren double moves to the square just adjacent to both of the enemies, hoping to shield the others from being massacred by the monsters.
Would someone move me, please?
DM Elan Morin |
Oren places herself between the undead monsters and the rest of her companions defending them.
Valrani attacks one of the creatures but her magic stick barely misses them!
The creatures react with rage as the big Tien woman tries to block them from reaching Lirotha. The reddish one unleashes its fury against Oren while the other keeps attacking Lirotha whi it considers a rare delicacy...
Attack roll (red vs Oren) claw 01: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 -> Damage roll: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Attack roll (yellow vs Lirotha) claw 01: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 -> Damage roll: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

"Lirotha, what are you doing," Rocco shouts as he rounds the corner and sees the woman engaged in hand to hand combat with the undead creatures. "Get your big backside outta the way and let Kurglunn handle this!"
Unable to direct his projectiles at the undead mermaids through the swarm of legs and bodies between him and the enemy, Rocco hangs back beside the Hound and waits for a potential opening.
Kurglunn the Runner |
While Rocco hangs back, Kurglunn moves up behind the crowd, ready to spring into any openings that might show up so he can begin his own assault against the undead monstrosities attacking his friends.
If possible, I'll ready an action to 5ft step into an open space and attack.

DM Elan Morin |
Lirotha lunges with her starknife and cuts down the undead monster for good.
Rocco cannot shoot the monsters while Kurglunn takes advantage of Lirotha's actions by stepping over the corpse of the undead enemy. Unfortunately his assault on the other monster leaves a lot to be desired and he misses it entirely.
Talon meanwhile waits patiently for his companions to make room for him to shoot.

After a brief search both Morricone and Lirotha agree: there's nothing more to be found inside the "Hall of the Sea" besides dead fish.
Meanwhile the Hound moves towards the upper room, but nothing seems to be waiting for him in the darkness of what was once called "the Insect Zoo"...
In the dim light the Honud glimpses the shapes of plants, rocks, and hundreds of motionless specks fill the countless glass cases throughout this long hall. The preserved husks of giant insects and arachnids—including a ten-foot-tall spider—leer over the displays. A dead man’s body, swathed in red-and-black robes and covered in welts, lies on the floor....
Rocco Hardweather |
Rocco and Kurglunn move back up toward the hallway between the main rooms, keeping an eye out for anyone coming to check out the noise.
Lirotha Karsani |
Lirotha quickly moves up to the Hound's position and places a soft hand on his shoulder to hold him in place.
"OK my pretties. Let's assume BEFORE we go in there that something will attack us. See? There is already a dead man in there. Looks like..."

"...he might have died of some by some sort of bug attack, or even possibly by some quick striking disease. Given the nature of the room I say 'bugs' are our most obvious culprit. NOW: How do we handle that? Do we have any way to handle swarms of bugs? More undead is not a problem, but I did not memorize my fire magic tonight. I was expecting to meet living human antagonists or possibly summoned creatures."
Lirotha Karsani |
Smiling sweetly behind her own covering cloth, Valrani waves a little at the distinguished gentleman in his congruently cheap mask.
"Morri dear...pay attention? I have already speculated it was probably a swarm of insects of some kind! Please do keep up! There are spells that summon them easily enough. I just worry there is now a trap of some kind that creates or looses the swarm! Rocco? While I hesitate to relegate Kurglunn to mere bait or luggage carrier, could you send him to retrieve the dead gentleman? More clues COULD be on his person."
The Hound Of Kintargo |
"I wager Lirotha's right. Clearly by the bug bites on this corpse. Wonder what he did that got him killed. But could be there's a swarm and the big ass spider over there could also come to life any second. The Hound says in his husky voice, then checks the body to see who this guy was before he died.
DM Elan Morin |
Lirotha and Talon survey the room as far as the dim light of the rapidly fading sun would allow without entering the "Insect Zoo".
They don't see anything moving in the room at all.
Oren Mitabu |
Oren moves to the front of the group with the others.
DM Elan Morin |
Did I find anything on the guy? Should I roll Perception for whatever is not moving in the room? ;)
You never entered the hall so you didn't search the body. If you want to do that move your token on the map, otherwise I cannot be sure you don't mean you checked the body from afar. Do you enter and search the body?
The Hound Of Kintargo |
Talon crosses the threshold, anxious and keeps his eyes peeled for any threats. Musket at the ready to fire at anything coming his way (aside from the Ravens.

Lirotha Karsani |

DM Elan Morin |
As Talon enters the "Insect Zoo" he notices 8 arachnids with bright red bodies and black legs scuttling towards him. Unnerved he notices how their mandibles ritmically click together a sure sign the arachnids must be hungry. Very hungry...
