I think opening a recruitment would be good.
I'm sorry to see you go Nadine. I wish you good luck as well and hope things get better for you.
I've enjoyed adventuring with you!
Javell DeLeon |
Rikash? You still with us, bud?
Not really a huge fan of recruitment but if we keep this going we don't really have much choice. Unless there is someone else any of you might know that would be willing to play?
And if that player you mentioned wants to join, Bill, at least that will only cut it down to one person we gotta recruit.
Ahdak Speaks-with-Stars |
I'm still with here. I'm game either way, but I think most everyone I know is going to be pretty tapped out right now. Let's see what Bill's friend has to say and go from there?
Bill Dunn |
My friend John is interested. He's currently working up a catfolk ranger.
I've also extended an invitation to another friend who I play with on the tabletop. He doesn't hang around the forums here very much, but he's worth asking since his characters are usually very interesting. But in the meantime, I'm putting up the next gameplay post momentarily.

Hello all.
I figured I start with the rolls and see what I get.
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6) + 6 = 15
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 = 13
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 = 11
stat: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
Well, nothing too impressive but better that the 20 point build. I'll work it up.
Javell DeLeon |
Cool. What's up, bud?
Hey, I'm somewhat interested in that 2d6 build. I don't suppose there's any chance we could possibly rebuild going that route, is there?
We're actually sitting on a 20 point buy.
It's not critical by any means but I am curious. Especially considering you can't add or subtract which is a plus for point buy. I'm fine with where I'm at but it is intriguing I'll confess.
Bill Dunn |
The 2d6+6 vs 20 point build was part of the original game's character gen guideline before DM Dr. Evil took over. I didn't realize he didn't pass that option on to you. Hell, I didn't realize that was the parameter until today.
If you're interested, go ahead. It should help Darnak's charisma a bit. ;)
Javell DeLeon |
Lol!
Wow. I didn't even realize that. You're the 3rd DM on this one? That's crazy.
Now, is it a "either/or" type thing or is it if the "2d6 rolls stink you can take the 20 point buy" type thing? If it's the former, I'll just stick with the 20. I'm not much of a gambler.
Because I'll be honest, my rolling stinks(as you can easily tell with my mighty 2 in the game thread) typically and I'd hate to hang myself with a 12 point buy from a 20. Not only in this thread but ALL my threads. It's a terrible disease with unfortunately no cure. :P
Firdall_Firetail |
Sorry, the reference to a 30 point build was a typo in my last post (which I have fixed). After I actually entered the rolled stats with the racial bonuses, I found that the rolls were actually worse that the 20 point build, as 2 of my important stats dropped to be come odd, but at least I gained +3 charisma!
Firdall is a “sailor” by profession that has recently fallen on hard times. His last sailing voyage ended badly, with his friends killed in some kind of shipboard fight and now he is spending some quality time ashore, and away from the authorities in the nearby major seaports. Firdall is a large catlike humanoid with black fur and a scar on his left cheek. He wears somewhat mismatched stained and worn clothing that was of fine quality at one time, and travels with a seabag slung over one shoulder.
He fights with his claws, is an astonishing climber has some skill in tracking, and can crew a ship. He is fiercely loyal to his companions, but has a weakness for carousing and living the good life, that can occasionally interfere with getting the job done.

Yeah, I think I would have to kind of ask for a commitment to one or the other. Usually, I make my tabletop players roll 4d6-low and make 2 sets of 6, choosing the set of 6 they prefer. What can I say - I like discovering characters via rolling them up.
I do find it interesting that the majority of applicants to the original game went with the 2d6+6 method. I only spotted a couple who openly declared a preference for the 20 point buy.
Javell DeLeon |
Personally, I'm more of a 25 point buy guy. Mainly because I feel you can at least build your pc close to what you see it as ability wise.
20 is fine(mainly because there's really no choice in the matter because that's typically 90% of what most DM's roll with) but if I could make it law, 25 would be the bare minimum. :) But that's just my preference.
I'll stick with my 20.
Typically if it's one of those type recruit threads, whether you take one or the other, sometimes I'll gamble and roll and then preview to see what I got. If they stink, then thems the breaks and I move on.
As a confession though: Before I ever started on these boards, me and my family use to get together and play. Man we'd have 60, 70 point buys(Of course, this was way before point buy but I went back and did the math on some of these and man was it ridiculous).
So when I was first seeing 20 point buy and figured out how it worked, my first impression was, "How in the heck does anybody survive with those kind of crappy numbers?!?! Are you kidding me?! What are we playing... commoners?!" :)
It's all good now though. I was a HUGE power gamer at heart(and still am to a degree) but I've found over the years I really LOVE the roleplay side a ton. It really makes it FAR more interesting. You really can't do that over a tabletop nearly as well as you can pbp. If it's a game to where there's nothing but beating things to death, then I might as well move on because I find that boring.
I've come a long ways. :)
Javell DeLeon |
And, based on email I got, it looks like the other player I invited is coming over. Working a rogue, eventual arcane trickster.
Cool. That's gonna turn out to be a fairly eclectic group.
Ranger
Rogue
Monk
Shaman
Bard
Should be interesting. :)

Interesting indeed! Welcome to the game, Firdall. I'm looking forward to playing with you.
Javell DeLeon |
Yeah, RPoL has some nice features to it as a gaming site. More colored text, text that can be hidden to all but the specified readers, the ability to make more side threads...
Okay, now THAT is cool. I'm all for various colors. And spoilered texts that can only be read by certain folks? That's crazy to even think about. Really the only way to do that is through pm.
Man I wish Paizo would upgrade to stuff like that. That'd be great.
Alesta |
Welcome both of you to the game! Looking forward to adventuring with both of you!
Alesta |
Sorry been busy lately. Will try and post something.
I'm not sure what happened to Ahdak though. My character had asked him a question as well.
Firdall_Firetail |
For a minute after reading the object damage rules, I thought I might have sundered the branch (assuming it was 2" thick or less), so it could drop on the boar for comedic effect.
Alas, ranged weapons do half damage...
Firdall_Firetail |
Hmm, I'd like to propose a time limit for responses in combat. Maybe 3 days or so? Otherwise things are going to drag too much. If you miss your opportunity, you are considered delaying until you post, which resets your initiative?
What do others think?

I like that idea actually. I'm really liking this campaign so I don't want to see it die.
Alesta |
Sorry that I haven't posted. I was confused on who's turn it was what with us losing players left and right.
I'll have a post up sometime tonight.
Alesta |
I'll need to tell y'all something important. It'll only affect my posting for about 9 days but I'll tell you more tomorrow.
Alesta |
I hope I didn't scare anyone. No I'm not leaving (I'm having way too much fun with y'all in this adventure!).
So I've been looking for a new job (I still have a job, just trying to find one that pays a bit more and is closer to home), and I've been doing it on my iPhone. The problem is that I forgot to take into account that I'm on my parents' data plan and I forgot to keep an eye on how much data I was using. Long story short, I used up a lot of data. So, we have 8 days left in the billing cycle before our data usage resets.
While this will reduce my posting rate a bit, I'm going to try and keep on posting on my laptop before and after work if possible. I just wanted to let everyone know about this and I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.
Alesta |
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news everyone, but my iPhone is acting up, so I'm trying to get it fixed (could be a software issue, or worse the battery is messed up). This will impact my posting rate some, but I'll still try and post as often as I can from my laptop before work.
So, keep y'all's fingers crossed. And I apologize about this. I'm concerned that my phone got messed up during the hurricane when I had numerous power surges prior to losing power when Matthews came through.
Okay....
Crisis averted! After looking online, I found that sometimes if you let your iPhone's battery drain to 0% (which you're supposed to do occasionally), the battery may not have enough juice to charge back up. According to what I found online, simply using a blow dryer to warm the phone up enough for say 5-10 minutes and then immediately plug your iphone into a charger, the iPhone starts right back up. Phew! Glad that's over.
Alesta |
My posting rate has actually slowed down a great deal because of work and the holidays. So, if I don't post, then please bot me. I'm posting this to all of my games I'm in, just to let people know. Sorry about this.
Alesta |
So any chance of getting this going again, or is it officially a dead campaign?
I'm hoping it's not a dead campaign.
Alesta |
Hope we still have everyone. If not we could recruit some more people.
Firdall_Firetail |
So, we seem to stalling again. Would you like me to poll either of my gaming groups for players? I'm seeing one tomorrow and can see if anyone is interested.
Also you can email Glenn to see if he is interested in continuing...

I should have asked Glenn and Kevin when I saw them yesterday but it slipped my mind...
Alesta |
I'm still here. I got wrapped up in a lot of things (my birthday on the 13th, then Mother's Day, and then work, and finally my cousin's wedding.
Hopefully I'll try and post something tomorrow.
