Creeping forward, Talon hopes the blinding snow also gives him the advantage of cover as he makes his way to the back wall of the icy hut. Trawets (at least) advances with the rogue, neither of them seeing anything.

Suddenly the a deafening explosion rocks the two heroes as a thunderstone clatters to the ground after being thrown down from above them.

Both Talon and Trawets must make DC 15 Fort save or be deafened for 1 hour. Deafened creatures, besides the obvious effects, take a -4 on initiative and a 20% chance to mis-cast any spell with verbal components.

Initiative:

Trawets: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Lucian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

Talon (and Trawets) needs saves. All else can act. At present there is no enemy in sight.

The Winter Portal - Round 1 - continued

Talon, struck deaf by the thunderstone, presses himself as best he can against the igloo, hoping to stay out of sight.

No one can see an enemy, especially in the blinding snow, but over the howling wind you hear (unless you are Talon or Trawets) the sound of a small voice chanting, it sounds like casting words.

The rest of the group is up. The enemy is not visible to you at this point, but you can hear casting. Understandable if you delay but you have the initiative.

9 Trawets (DC 15 fort)

Initiative is set on the post above, the party (everyone but Talon) has a round to act and is up NOW. I realize its a bit odd when you can't see an enemy, but the thunderstone (and the perception check) means you have at least one foe out there. Do something or just stand there, but post whichever it is.

We tripped a trap, so IMO the best thing to do is retreat backwards, and then try again later without being hindered by a trap. If the enemy wants to chase, he would need to leave undefended whatever it was worth trapping.

Then lets retreat!

I'm fine pulling back to reset...though it appears we are dealing with some invisible foe. But a deaf wizard is not good going into this. If it chases us, at least we might see it better.

The Winter Portal - Round 1 - concluded

Not seeing any foe, Lucien readies an attack if anyone comes into range.

Trawets also readies to throw a bolt of force, and then feebly tries to hide in the snow.

Agatha prepares to charge any enemy that appears but so far none have.

Meditrina steps back away from the others, expecting a trap.

The Winter Portal - Round 2 - continued

Talon continues to wait until he can see a foe before he flings a dagger at one.

Suddenly, a diminutive enemy appears out of the swirling snow in front of Lucien and Trawets. It is a tiny blue-colored sprite like you have encountered before.

Trawets fires his force blast hitting the sprite, and Lucien has a shot to take.

Readied actions from the wizard and the hunter go off. Lucien has a 20% miss chance due to the snowy concealment. Then the sprite can act if it survives.

As their readied actions go off, Trawets scores a hit with is unerring force missile, but Lucien, who wasn't expecting such a small target, misses wide of the mark.

The sprite seems to shake off the force missile blow and begins casting its own spell in return. Suddenly from its fingers bursts a dazzling array of colors and patterns which spin and swirl in the snow hypnotically.

The casting sound stops and a smoky black eagle appears next to Meditrina from thin air, striking out at the priestess with its beak and talons. One talon scratches Meditrina for 3hp.

More casting sounds come from somewhere in the blizzard around the winter portal, but no one else is evident.

Lucien and Trawets need to make DC 12 Will save or succumb to Color Spray. Meditrina is up next. Remember that movement through the snow is 1/4 normal speed, and the restricted visibility mentioned above.

The Winter Portal - Round 3 - continued

Lucien steps through the deep snow firing at the now-revealed sprite. His arrow misses the diminutive fey.

Can only take one shot when moving. Even though you only stepped 5' it is extraordinarily difficult terrain and requires a move action. Rapid Shot can only be used as a full-attack action. Took the first shot roll as a result. Will bot Talon since he is hiking.

Talon still cannot see an enemy due to the poor visibility. He stomps forward through the hip deep snow, and finally spies the first sprite. Gritting his teeth he flings his dagger at the small target, but the wind and conditions make his aim off and he misses.

Trawets continues to lie unconscious in the snow.

The first sprite fires its tiny bow at Lucien, then flies back out of range and out of sight. The hunter, however, avoids the shot ducking just in the nick of time.

The conjured eagle attacks the nearest foe, which in this case, is Struggler. Both talons rip into the bear, one digging deep into the flesh on his face for a total of 8 hp.

From out of the snowy mess, a sling stone flies at Talon. It hits him squarely, just bouncing off his neck. The stone, which is magically enhanced, causes 5 hp dmg, and makes Talon staggered for the next round.

A loud bellowing sound reaches your ears over the din of the wind. Whatever it is, it sounds big, and unhappy.

Sprite 2 zips forward firing its bow at Lucien. Despite the poor visibility, the arrow strikes Lucien, but only bruises him for 1 NL. The magical coldness of the arrow races over the hunter however potentially slowing him

Lucien needs DC 11 Fort or be staggered for one round from the numbing cold of the fey's arrows. Same thing happened to Talon who failed the save. Agatha and Meditrina up now. Agatha can see the eagle, but no other foe. Meditrina, who withdrew last round, is a move action away.

Don't know what to do. I'd heal but cannot see anyone ergo I'd end up hitting enemies as well as allies. Cannot use my spells because either there are massive range penalties or again, cannot see. I think this is a TPK if we stand and fight.

Talon curses as the stone strikes him. Seeing Trawlets down, the rogue moves to assist the wizard and drag him to safety.

I'm staggered, so I can only move to him and prepare to drag him. Also agreeing with Medi that this isn't going so hot...we should probably prepare to come back better prepared now that we know what we face.

The Exchange

Human Rogue 2 DEAD

I think we're still trying to back off here, right? It seems we're at the bottom of the order with Meditrina. A heal wouldn't be bad right now...the bad guys haven't taken any damage to heal.

Female Human Follower Alias

Talon, the issue is I cannot actually see where everyone is, furthermore, I cannot tell if the enemy has or hasn't taken damage and would certainly be healed if I tried to. I don't actually know if the rest of the party even wants to back off, since everyone but me hung around after the trap went off.

The Exchange

Human Rogue 2 DEAD

I think bad guys are back up then...

Meditrina, do you have any action? Are you delaying, passing, readying, or retreating? I know you are in a bit of a quandry with the conditions, but that's part of the challenge of this "boss fight". Give me an action or pass, please.

The Winter Portal - Round 3 - concluded

Agatha rushes forward bounding through the snow, ready to attack the closest sprite if it moves from its current location.

Talon, staggered by the cold from teh fey arrow, and deafened still from the thunderstone, sees the odds turning against the group. He stumbles through the deep snow to the side of Trawets and begins to grab the unconscious wizard trying to move him.

Lucien holds his ground, firing two arrows at the floating sprite. The diminutive fey proves to be a hard target flitting out of the way of both shots with relative ease.

Green Sprite turns rushing forward on her silvery wings and fires her small bow at Agatha, but the tiny arrow caroms off the barbarian's armor harmlessly.

The summoned eagle flashes out of existence, and the fey caster fires another sling stone also at Agatha, hitting the Ulfen woman squarely for 4 hp dmg.

From somewhere beyond the fey archers, a loud cry of anger fills the air. Heavy footsteps mash through the snow, and through the blizzard you can make out an enormous, 9' tall, creature carrying a wickedly sharp spear. "By the name of the White Witch, who dares disturb my encampment? I will skin your flesh and gnaw your bones!" cries the powerful long-armed creature.

I withdraw.

The Exchange

Human Rogue 2 DEAD

Still thinking a heal would be a good thing...Trawets is down and I don't think I can drag him out successfully with these guys chasing us. Enemy has taken minimal damage.

Talon, reeling and deafened, grabs the front of the unconscious wizard's robes and attempts to drag him to safety.

I'd like to withdraw with Medi, I guess, dragging Trawets. I can drag 5x my max weight carried, or 500 lbs. It also says I can do more if conditions are favorable, and snow might allow more to be dragged by being slick. That said, I doubt he weighs anything close to that.

Female Human Follower Alias

You would need to communicate that to me, because I don't know (no vision) the status of the enemy, ergo I don't know if they are near dead or anything like that. I don't know how many times I've said that I cannot see you guys, don't make me use ooc knowledge.
