Doll Ambush - Round 3 - concluded
Feeling the effects of the cold bite her, Meditrina is staggered. With her only action of the round, she unleashes a sheet of flame up at the hovering doll. The doll tries to take evasive action but cannot move in time, and she is covered in magical flame. The creatures natural vulnerability to fire makes the spell all the more powerful, and the doll crashes down to the ground, lifeless once again.
Thora Doll DC 15 Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
End of Combat
Defeating the eerie doll earns you each 200xp. That moves your cumulative XP to 3522/5000 or about 56% to level 3.
DM DoctorEvil |
As the party starts to recover itself from the doll's surprise attack, a maelstrom of snow starts to blow up all around the party.
Trawets: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Talon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Lucien: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Agatha: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Meditrina: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Izoze: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Squald: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Talon Thief-taker |
Still agitated from the encounter with the doll, Talon easily spots the new ambush.
"This witch really wants us to turn around," he shouts. "But she's really starting to make me angry!"
The rogue draws his bow and prepares for combat.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Can I also take a 5' step? If so, I'll move to the east.
Trawets Aarock |
Appraise: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Trawets starts to examine the gem to determine it's value and then his head snaps up as he sees the bird and prepares to hit it with a force missile.
"Incoming!"

Another Ambush - Surprise Round - concluded
Seeing the oncoming rush of new foes, Meditrina blesses the party with the strength of Sarenrae, adding divine inspiration to their attacks.
Along with the blue-winged creature, which is definitely not a bird, an air elemental has joined in the attack, driving the snow before in a maelstrom which dims perception and ranged attacks. The elemental races forward through the air, making a slam attack via charge on the closest target, Talon. The shifty rogue is able to avoid the buffeting air, and remains unharmed as the elemental flys by.
Trawets fires a force missile at the blue-skinned flier, smashing into it with good effect.
Lucien fires his bow, but misses hitting either target.
Talon unslings his bow, readying for a shot, while stepping a bit more the east.
The blue flyer comes into range a bit more flying low behind the elemental. You get a better look at it now, and can see the leathery wings and small horns. "Teb Knotten says you will not pass this point, and I am here to make sure it does not happen!" cries the creature in the Common tongue.
Agatha is happy to accept that challenge as he lays by her sling, and draws her greatsword for close combat.
-4 on ranged attacks and perception check while the elemental survives. If Talon wasn't still flat-footed he could've had an AoO vs elemental attack.
Air elemental slam, charge: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
Trawets Force Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
End of Surprise Round
DM DoctorEvil |
yes, I try to keep the map current.
Another Ambush - Round 1 - continued
Delaying her action until her targets get closer to range, Meditrina bides her time.
Wheeling around from his first fly-by attack, the air elemental races forward at great speed, trying to land a blow on Talon as he rushes by but again the speed of the attacker is too great to square up much of a shot.
Such a movement provokes an AoO if Talon would like to take one. The elemental will race off to end his turn at the arrow indicated square if the AoO doesn't stop him first. After that, Trawets, Lucien, and Talon are up in their normal actions.
Air elemental slam, flyby: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Talon Thief-taker |
The elemental is much too quick for Talon to strike in the billowing snow.
Not liking his positioning at the front of the group, Talon moves to the west and takes a potshot at the elemental with his bow.
Dagger Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Shortbow Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 4 = 121d6 ⇒ 5
I'd like to take a move action to the west so I'm on the back line please.

Another Ambush - Round 1 - continued
The series of attacks by the party, Talon, Lucien, Struggler, and Trawets all end with misses except the magically accurate force missiles from the wizard which relentlessly track down and smash into the elemental, wounding it slightly.
Flying to within 15' of the group, the ice mephit breathes a cone of ice shards from her mouth, causing Struggler, Meditrina, and Lucien to be hit be flying ice.
Dmg, ice breath weapon: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Not an insurmountable amount of damage, but also gives the sickened condition for 3 rounds. A DC 13 Reflex halves the damage and negates the sickened condition. Besides the saves, Agatha is up to end the round.
DM DoctorEvil |
Actually unless I am mistaken, I can come out of delay and roast that Mephit with a burning hands spell.
[dice=Damage]2d4
Perhaps I miscounted, but do you have a Burning Hands spell left for the day? I show 2 have already been used. In fact, by my reckoning all your spells have been used on this IC day. I show you do have 5 firebolts left for the day, but those are ranged touch attacks requiring a d20 roll. Also, your action will be after the breath attack by the mephit, since it was a delay rather than a readied action.

Another Ambush - Round 2
14 Meditrina
12 Squald
10 Trawets
10 Lucien
7 Talon
7 Izoze (5 hp dmg)
3 Agatha
The air elemental rushes forward again, flying by Lucien with a slap before circling back away from all the heroes. For the third time, the elementals fly-by slam misses.
Trawets, Lucien, Talon are up. Also, Meditrina can jump in anytime.
Air Elemental slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Talon Thief-taker |
Talon, seeing an opportunity to surprise one of the creatures, draws the magical shortsword they had found. While he moves, he kicks snow into the creature's face, then follows with a thrust from the new blade.
shortsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Wanting to attack the creature next to Agatha
DM DoctorEvil |
Another Ambush - Round 2 - continued
Lucien fires two arrows, but both missiles end up wide of the mark as the flying creature deftly avoids them.
Talon jumps forward, striking the mephit with his enchanted weapon. The blade cuts into the creature, which howls in anger and defiance, turning its attention to the rogue it rends the attacker with its claws for 6hp dmg total.
Mephit claw 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Mephit Claw 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Dmg Claw 1: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Dmg Claw 2: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Leaves Agatha up to end the round.
Agatha Bjoernsdottir |
Attacking with vigor Agatha strikes again after moving to flanking position.
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 101d8 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
But she slips on the ice and her swing goes wild.
DM DoctorEvil |
Another Ambush - Round 3 - continued
Meditrina falls back along the road, then calls on Sarenrae to send positive energy, healing the team. A bit of warmth, as if the sun shone right on them, fills each of the heroes as the sun goddess' energy fills them, healing some minor wounds.
The air elemental blasts forward once again, slamming at Lucien as it wheels around him, and flies back out of reach. This time the attack is successful, the slam rattling the teeth in the hunter's head and leaving him sore for 4 hp dmg.
Air Elemental slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Dmg, Lucien: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Now it is Trawets, Lucien, Talon up for the good guys.
Trawets Aarock |
Trawets steps so there is no one blocking his view of Izoze and throws a glob of acid at her.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"Take down the little one here and maybe the elemental will go away."
DM DoctorEvil |
Another Ambush - Round 3 - continued
Trawets steps into a clear line of sight on the ice mephit, and tosses up another newly conjured acid ball. Unfortunately, his aim is just a hair of and the acid splash hits a tree behind the mephit instead of the main target.
Lucien unleashes another pair of arrows at the zooming air elemental, but comes nowhere near hitting it again.
Talon continues the melee assault on the mephit, stabbing with the magical shortsword, and once again scoring a hit that seems to hurt the magical outsider.
The mephit, Izoze, flies backwards, withdrawing from melee combat in which is getting the worst end of it. She circles around to face the party, and orders her elemental into attack again. "Teb Knotten will have our heads if we don't stop them here. Attack, Squald, attack and force them to turn tail."
Agatha is up next to close out the round. Meditrina starts the next round off.
