Flashback
After releasing Gogmurt, Loges approaches the others with a sad look on his face.
"I think I should leave. My spell components, wands and scrolls were all destroyed in that entangling spell. And without those, I don't think I can be of any use to you."
The Heroes spend several minutes trying to convince the wizard of his worth, but in the end can do nothing more but watch him go.
Beromar Copperkettle |
Pah what a useless t$!%... in truth the kid was never meant fer adventure!
Beromar then looks at his remaining companions and starts talking tactics.
I suggest the following: Alexei and Bruin the two of you circle around the compound and get into position and get arrows ready. Me an Viroleth we gets in there and hit em by surprise and you start pepperin em wit arrows and magics and don't lets em get back inside to warn the evil demon lady... I says we first focus on the goblin cause they smarter than their dogs but just barely...
Viroleth Sastan |
Viro skulks back and watches in horror as Loges just wanders off.
"What the hell?! He was useful. Loopy, but useful."
He sighs, saying goodbye to the strange wizard before turning to take in the keep once more.
"We can head straight in, it may mean we fight those goblins later though, and when we're fighting something else. Unless we find a way to barricade the doors from the inside..."
Bruin Greenleaf |
Bruin quietly approaches the double doors and examines them. He whispers back to the others, "The doors can be barred from the inside. We could just lock them out."
Beromar Copperkettle |
Nah I've let enough Goblins live fer one day me thinks. The Dwarf replies to Viroleth and Bruin with his arms crossed and a pout on his face...
Bruin Greenleaf |
Bruin puts his hands on his hips and whispers back in a tone one would use when scolding a child.
"Beromar Copperkettle! Torag is the god of tactical warfare. How would he feel if we ignored a perfectly good opportunity to divide and conquer?"
"If it makes you feel better we can kill them on the way back," he added in a softer voice.
And if you behave, we'll stop for ice cream.
Beromar Copperkettle |
Beromar shoots the little man an ice cold stare.
And what would the halfling priest of a butterfly knows about tactical warfare? Very little me thinks as it tends to be folly to leave an enemy at ye back...
Alexei Petrescu |
"Kill them sooner, kill them later," Alexei shrugs as if it makes no difference to him. "We came here to end the threat to Sandpoint, so they will die either way. I say we take them now, but we should do so quickly and quietly so as not to raise the alarm from inside."
He nocks an arrow ready to start the rumble now.
Bruin Greenleaf |
Bruin stares at the double-door longingly, and then sighs.
"Oh, very well."
Bruin casts a spell to quicken his step. Longstrider, 4 hours.
"But we're not splitting up to go walk around to the other side. No telling what we might encounter. Better we stick together, if they overwhelm us, we can retreat easier that way."
The heroes move into position.
Bruin had felt uneasy about attacking creatures without warning, but he quickly got over them when he saw the malicious goblins torturing a seagull by holding it with a 30-foot tether of twine while the other goblins took turns trying to hit it with thrown rocks.
He took aim at the goblin holding the tether.
Crossbow vs. Red Goblin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
OK, guys, so give me your surprise round actions.
Alexei Petrescu |
Alexei will 5' step out from around the corner of the stockade, and fire an arrow at the nearest upright goblin, trusting on Beromar to keep them from charging back at him for now.
Alexei longbow, PBS: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Dmg, PBS: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Eh, hit one, probably didn't drop him.
Beromar Copperkettle |
Step out into the open and threaten AoO from anyone who moves too close
Beromar steps forward boldly and curses the stinking greenskin in Dwarven in the hopes of gaining their attention.
Viroleth Sastan |
Viro simply flattens himself against the north wall, waiting while the goblins rush in on Beromar before making his move.
wicked_raygun |
Bruin and Alexei feather a couple shots into the goblin holding the tether. The foul creature blinks stupidly before letting go of the seagull and pitching over the side to fall to its doom.

Beromar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Ouch. Goblins won initiative.
Viroleth Sastan |
Viro covers his mouth, suppressing a gale of laughter.
wicked_raygun |
The goblins at first laugh at their fellow goblin falling over. But then one spots Alexei, Beromar and Bruin. The foul creatures lick their lips at a chance to kill a dwarf and rush in with reckless abandon, not even bothering to mount their goblin dogs.
"Dwarfses! We kill dwarfses!" one shouts.
Two immediately rush into Beromar's clutches. He manages to slice one open, killing it instantly, while the other gets through.
Bermomar Longaxe vs. Goblin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Beromar Longaxe vs. Goblin: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
The surviving goblin doesn't seem to pay any attention to its dead comrade as it recklessly attacks Beromar. It strikes a weak blow that all the same, leaves an ugly gash on the dwarf monk's arm.

Bruin Greenleaf |
Bruin moves up to Viroleth and grants the blessing of his goddess upon him.
Bit of luck on Viro. 5/6 left.
Bit of Luck (Sp): You can touch a willing creature as a standard action, giving it a bit of luck. For the next round, any time the target rolls a d20, he may roll twice and take the more favorable result.
Viroleth Sastan |
Although Viro would have been extremely content to watch goblins charge heedlessly in the wood chipper that is Beromar, duty calls. Eschewing his usual amazing acrobatics, he simply walks up and stabs the goblin.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Uirdir Lightfoot |
Hmm... seems like someone has gotten here before me. he thinks as the little green man makes a splash in the water below. Well, hopefully I won't need to deal with them as well and I can just inspect the ruins after they've had their fun.
He tests the boards with the tip of his rapier to see if it will truly hold before shrugging and walking across the bridge casually, sword tip clattering on the boards as he walks.
Alexei Petrescu |
Round 1
Nocking a pair of arrows in rapid succession, Alexei returns fire at the goblin armed with a shortbow, raining two shots on the little fellow., scoring one hit, while one shot flies wide.

Viroleth Sastan |
Viro moved 10', he can't take a full attack action.
Viroleth Sastan |
OH! Well in that case second roll is appreciated. :D
wicked_raygun |
Alexei's arrow hits the goblin with a shortbow dead center, instantly killing it. And then Viroleth moves in and deals a heavy blow on the last goblin.
Hmm, kinda not much the goblin dogs can do, I suppose. So I'll just move them up a bit.
Without orders from their riders, the Goblin Dogs simply get closer and growl menacingly.

wicked_raygun |
Beromar's hammer caves in the goblins skull, sending a spray of blood and viscera everywhere. The goblin's body twitches several times before falling down.

Bruin Greenleaf |
Bruin frowns since he can't see a clear shot. So instead he moves over to Alexei and grants him the blessing of his goddess.
Bit of luck on Alexei. 4/6 left.
Uirdir, you'll arrive next round.
Viroleth Sastan |
"Anyone good with animals? SHOO! GET OUT OF HERE!" Viro tries to wave off the goblin dogs. Not really wanting to engage with the foul beasts, he once more steps back, wanting them to come to Beromar first.
Assuming that goblin in front of ms ie dead, 5' back and holding my action until there's a goblin dog in melee range.
Beromar Copperkettle |
Luckily Beromar kept a goblin dog bone when butchering the last bunch and tries his charm on the foul mongrels. But to the Dwarf's surprise the stinking canines weren't cannibals afterall.
Shoot didn't trade out Wild Empathy for anything...
Wild Empathy1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Alexei Petrescu |
Taking another pair of shots at the easternmost goblin dog, Alexei smiles grimly at the luck brought by the little cleric. With Desna on side, Alexei is able to guide both arrows to their target.

The goblin dogs seem unmoved by Beromar's attempts to lure them with a bone.
Beromar, The Goblin Dog Whisperer.
Alexei simply kills one of the creature outright with a couple of perfect shots. The other move in to attack the dwarf.

Beromar vs. Goblin Dog C: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 <-- hit
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
But Beromar only manages to hit one of the wily creatures.
Viro had a held action and it just so happens that was against the one Goblin Dog to get hit.
Viroleth vs Goblin Dog C: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Caught by surprise by the Bero's poor showing, Viroleth haphazardly swipes at the goblin dog.

Beromar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Beromar tried to rear the goblin dogs with handle animal out of turn, before they attacked him so brutally. I'd be okay with giving him a mulligan to attack here instead, and leaving the above as flavor text.

Did not take cover into account, but think the second shot is likely a hit anyway.
Viroleth Sastan |
Viro winces as he sees Beromar savaged by the dogs. He quickly leaps into the air, catching his fingers on the edge of the building before springing off to land behind the goblin dogs.

Beromar is up.
Beromar Copperkettle |
Beromar having been bit plenty by filthy canines is in no mood to argue he dances along the ledge and then raises his hammer for a mighty swing to show the this mongrel that it's place is somewhere else far far away.
