Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
Maximilian returns to the inside of the building, wiping blood from his rapier. "I suppose that takes care of that," he muses absentmindedly, before looking across the crumbling floor to the chest, "now who's going to retrieve the loot?"
Josnavaarin |
Shouting up at the point where the party should be after not seeing anyone on the outside of the building.
"Is it all clear?
Jos whispers to himself, "It figures I would run all the way outside to an empty courtyard. Well glad I moved off from the ledge it looks like it might collapse at any minute.
Jos moves away from the outside of the building in case it does collapse and heads back upstairs to check on the group.
Aarion Belanor |
Aarion responds to Josnavaariin. "Yes it appears we are finished here, except for this large chest of valuables that no longer has an owner."
Josnavaarin |
"Aarion, it has an owner and it is US." Jos laughs and watches from a safe distance as Silverback tinkers with the chest.
"Silverback, tie this rope around your body or the chest if you prefer before you kill yourself." Jos holding one end of a rope tosses a knotted rope over toward Silverback and the chest.
DM DoctorEvil |
Silverback returns to the safer portion of the top level with the heavy chest.
Inside you find a masterwork shortsword, 15 cold iron shurikens, two flasks of acid, a potion of cat's grace, a potion of lesser restoration, a wand of Summon Monster 1 (9 charges), an amethyst worth 100 gp, and a pile of assorted coins valued at 247gp.
Trasskar the trog king has a masterwork scimitar, a cloak of resistance +1, 4 darts, and on a thong around his neck is the magical artifact you have been sent to find.
Balenor reaches for the periapt, leaving the rest of the loot for you to bargain with among yourselves.
Aarion Belanor |
Once Balenor moves off the broken ledge, Aarion will move within ten foot of him. "I am glad we where able to help you with your predicament, but I am going to half to ask you to hand that little bobble on a string over to Orovan."
Sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 On Balenor's response.
DM DoctorEvil |
Balenor, a bit cowed, shrugs and hands over the periapt. "I'm not in a position to fight all of you for it, but this is the treasure I was sent here to seek; the artifact my Society will pay you handsomely for. Allow me to take it back to Absalom, and turn it over for study by the Pathfinders, I beg"
Aarion Belanor |
Once Orovan has the item securely in his position, Aarion turns to Balenor. "I believe the society is the correct place for this item. You and your benefactor may be present when we turn the item over to the society. If your intention is just and truthful, then you shouldn't have a problem with this."
After addressing Balenor, Aarion turns to the rest of the group. "Is everyone on board with turning this item over to the Pathfinder Society?"
Orovan |
"I'm not so sure. Those guys were pretty rude about not accepting my application. Why turn it over when we have a job ready to cash in?"
Josnavaarin |
"I say we take it back and turn it in ourselves." Jos looks around at the others abefore continuing. "or maybe we let him tag along."
DM DoctorEvil |
Hearing Orovan's complaint about rejection, Balenor steps in. "Yes, yes, you may turn it in yourselves, I suppose. And if you do, I will see to it that the Society accepts you as initiates, if that is your wish. I know the Venture-Captains are always looking for new talent, and you have proved your mettle to me, at least. So, is that a fair enough bargain?"
Aarion Belanor |
"I am OK with that, but I would like to hear what the rest of the group prefers to do with it."
Ruinor Starflame |
"Yes, I agree. The reason I'm here is I wanted to become a Pathfinder."
Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
"I concur with taking it to the Society. They might have little idea about dramatic structure, but they are likely still a better chance for some adventures of note than those ruffians that sent us out here."
Aarion Belanor |
"Then it is agreed, we will return the object to the pathfinder society. We will allow Balenor to be present for this transaction. Do we intend to inform the two who hired us with our decision? They will most likely be unhappy about this. With consideration of everything we have heard about this little item, I believe the society is safest place for it."
Josnavaarin |
Jos walks over toward Oravan before turning back to and replying to Aarion.
"Let's give it back already so that we can become pathfinders and travel the world seeking adventure and glory. Oh wait! They don't do that do they; but, at least we can become famous among our friends. hahah "
Jos then comforts Oravan. "It will be fine. They will accept you at last and you can show them their mistake for not picking you/us earlier."
DM DoctorEvil |
With nothing left to explore in the tower, and their prize already won, the heroes begin picking their way down the stairs of the crumbling tower. Getting to the blockage between the ground and second floor, they lower ropes and haul themselves and their loot down to the ground.
The trek across the Cairnlands back to The City at the Center of the World is a long, but not terrible arduous. Soon, they see the walls of Absalom beckoning, and following Balenor Forsend, they continue all the way to Grand Lodge of the Society, a place they were shown out of in shame just a few days ago.
Leaving the periapt with you, Forsend disappears into the myriad hallways of the Lodge, while you wait in a library filled with ancient books, scroll, and writings.
Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
Maximilian selects a random book from a shelve and flips through it. "See, this is exactly what I'm talking about," he complains. "The big dramatic denouement happens three-quarters of the way though, and then it spends six whole chapters just talking about the journey home!"
DM DoctorEvil |
After a wait that seems forever, Forsend returns with another man, a dark eyed, dark-haired fellow with a long hair tied back in a queue. He wears light blue robes with mystical symbols covering them.
"This is Aram Zey, Master of Spells for the entire Pathfinder Society. He is most interested in the artifact you have recovered and will see to it you are fairly rewarded for its recovery. Please, if you will, show us the periapt."
Assuming you comply, Zey looks over the jewel, with a slight intake of breath. "It is just as you said," he mumbles to Forsend. Then, straightening up, he address you in a clear voice, his eyes very intent and focused. "You have done well, and have chosen wisely bringing this to me. There are agents of other, more nefarious, organizations that search for this artifact, but they would use it for harm, as the Qadirian prince who brought it here centuries ago intended. We at the Society, however, will study its powers, and more than likely lock it in a vault where it can never be used again. I must thank you for yoru recovery, and for freeing my agent, Forsend here." At this a look passes between the two Pathfinders.
"Balenor tells me you are interested in joining our Society? Well, recovering this item shows you have the mettle for what it takes. I have made arrangements with Ambrus Valsin, our Venture-Captain in charge of new initiates, and he will, begrudingly, add you to our newest class. What say you? Welcome to the Society!" He walks around shaking each of you by the hand in turn.
"Now, with your permission, I will be off to my lab to study this periapt. Foresend will see you to the initiation hall. Any quesions before I leave?"
Aarion Belanor |
"We where asked to recover this item by a couple individuals from the local tavern. They said the item controlled an elemental of sorts. I am curious if that description of the tings ability was accurate or not."
Silverback |
Silverback thanks Master Zey, the expression on his face a mixture of relief and possibly bitterness they hadn't been selected before.
"I guess the Pathfinders did make the right choice in the end," he murmurs.
Ruinor Starflame |
A smile comes across Ruinor's face and he can hardly contain his excitement as he shakes the wizard's hand. "Thank you very much. I look forward to finding more artifacts for the Society and hope to be able to help study them as well. I can't wait to discover all the information the library has to help me become a more knowledgeable wizard."
