Willim Rupert Stichmund |
perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Willim sees the vulnerable state of Max and provides his shield to cover him while also pulling out his torch.
I assume I didn't have the torch out, it is my weapon of choice. Also as a free action I provide Max a shield bonus of +2 from trait (shield bearer)
Ruinor Starflame |
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Too busy trying to see around everyone to look at the desk and wondering what information is contained in all the papers, Ruinor does not see the scorpions.
After the surprise round:
Ruinor lobs a globe of acid at the scorion he sees by the desk.
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 - 4 = 9
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Orovan |

Silverback |
Silverback heard the scittering scorpions. He tries to urge his animal companion to attack it, but the half-wild beast does not respond.
He takes a defensive posture as he braces for their attack. Total Defense as a standard action

19 Scorpion 1
19 Scorpion 2
18 Willem
16 Ruinor
14 Maximilan
11 Silverback
9 Orovan
Willem hears the approaching scorpions and prepares his shield, drawing his torch for combat.
Ruinor is so focused on the secret door and papers, that he misses the approach of the bugs, and is flat-footed.
Maximilian is able to draw his rapier, ready to fight the large critters.
Silverback and Splittooth both hear the oncoming bugs and the druid takes a defensive stance, while the dino fails to heed his masters commands to fight.
Orovan fires a quick right hook at the nearest arthropod, hitting it for a bit of damage.

Scorpion 1 (on the left) comes after the closest target, which happens to be Maximilan. The skald avoids the dangerous stinger, and parries one claw, but the other claw catches him on the leg, wounding him for 3 hp.
The second scorpion, already wounded by Orovan, turns its offensive power on the half-orc monk. The nimble Orovan dodges each attack in turn, then readies his own counter-punch.

Ruinor steps into the corner of the room but is unable to connect with a globe of acid.
I assume. I posted in surprise round with touch attack of 9.

Lost Chamber - Round 1 - continued
Willim swings his torch at the invading scorpion, but again his attack misses, blocked a bit by the hard corner.
The elvish mage conjures up a ball of gooey acid, tossing it at the nearest scorpion, but just missing any contact.
After taking a pinch from one of the arthropods, Maximilian returns the favor, scoring a hit with his rapier.
Swinging down on the critter with all his force, Orvoan crushes the front end of his enemy, not quite putting it out of the fight, but leaving it very much the worse for wear.
Just need an action from Silverback and perhaps Splittooth, and we can end the round.
Silverback |
Silverback slashes with a poorly-timed scimitar blow, and while the young dinosaur attempts to attack, it also misses badly.

The scorpions counterattack against those that struck them in the last round. Scorpion 1 snips at Maximilan, hitting him once with a claw and then again with the poisonous barb on his tail stinger.
The other critter strikes at Orovan in a desparate attempt to fend off the powerful half-orc. One claw catches the brawler, gouging him for 2 hp.

Max takes 3 hp dmg, and needs a DC 12 Fort save. The rest of the party is up also.
Orovan |
Orovan reacts to the pincer in a violent fit of pain. "Get off me, crunchy!"

Willim Rupert Stichmund |
Willim swings his torch again. He couldn't even get near the thing as his hand hit the side of the wall.
torch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 some cover I suppose
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Ruinor Starflame |
Surprised that the scorpion is still standing after Orovan's brutal punch, Ruinor sends a globe of acid at it.
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 - 4 - 4 = -2
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Unfortunately, he is too worried about hitting the desk and sends it into the wall.
Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Dammit
"Aargh!" Maximilian cries out as the scorpion's sting pierces his skin. Limping, he steps back (5' step), and incants a spell to staunch his bleeding wounds.

DM DoctorEvil |
Lost Chamber - Round 2 - continued
Willem smashes again at the scorpion but again the wall corner just does get in his way, making his swing into a miss.
Ruinor's toss of his magical acid is perhaps the poorest effort of throwing a weapon that any of the party has ever seen.
After taking the brunt of the scorpion's assault, Max steps back, casting a curative spell on himself. At the same time, the injected poison hits his bloodstream and he feels himself weaken.
Max takes 1 STR dmg and needs another DC 16 Fort save next round.
After taking a brusing from the scorpion claw, Orovan counter-punches and strikes the big bug in the head, sending it lifeless to the floor.
Just waiting for post from Silverback and his dino companion; it looks like enough room for one of them to engage against the remaining scorpion, if they wish to take it.
Max str dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 1
DM DoctorEvil |
Lost Chamber - Round 3
19 Scorpion 1 (10hp dmg)
18 Willem
16 Ruinor
14 Maximilan (need DC 16 Fort vs poison)
11 Silverback
9 Orovan
Before the party can react, the scorpion makes a full round attack on the new meat in front of him, Silverback. But the nimble druid is able to dodge and parry all the attack, leaving the last enemy fair game for the rest of the party.
Scorpion Claw 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Scorpion Claw 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Scorpion Stinger: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Everyone is up against the last scorpion.
Ruinor Starflame |
ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 4 - 4 = 3
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Ruinor trys to hit the last scorpion but again is way off trying to hit the short foe around his companions.
Willim Rupert Stichmund |
Willim provides an inspiring word to Silverback as he hopes the druid will finish the bug. He then steps back 5'.
Target receives +2 on attack, skill checks, ability checks and saving throws for 1 rds.

Lost Chamber - Round 3 - continued
Willem, out of reach of the fighting, gives an encouraging word to Silverback, filling the druid with inspiration to finish off the combat.
From behind, Ruinor tosses another acid globule, but the melee crowd around the scorpion is too much for him to work around, and the spell misses.
Still need posts from Max (and a Fort Save), Orovan and Silverback to finish up this round.
Orovan |
Orovan waits to see if the others finish it off.
Delaying to just before the scorpion to give others some action.
Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Leaving a space to allow Silverback to finish off the scorpion, Maximilian prepares to retaliate if the scorpion comes near him again.
Readied action, attack if the scorpion closes into range,
Rapier: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 for: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Orovan |
I assume the map isn't accurate and there are no melee spots left next to the scorpion. Either way, let me know (unless it's dead).

Orovan |
"Good swing Silver." Orovan says, noting the dead scorpion. He smiles, seemingly having forgotten why he's there in the first place, content to have killed giant bugs.
Ruinor Starflame |
Having finally finished off the critters, Ruinor turns his attention to the desk which had been distracting him, but is apparently now worried that more things are going to crawl out of the caves.

DM DoctorEvil |
With the nasty scorpions out of the way, the group begins to search around the interior of the lost room. Ruinor is a bit distracted by the open tunnels and ends up keeping more watch than searching, while Orovan still has his blood lust up and stalks the room like a caged lion.
There are many files and papers on the desk, all of which seem to chronicle the personal exploits of one Selmius Foster, a famous Pathfinder whose name you recognize from your training. It appears he was pursuing the lost records of a Society agent named Eylysia.
One of the papers reads: "I write this letter in the event that my upcoming expedition to Bhopan goes poorly. In this trove I have left my considerable findings which I hope will be of use to our growing society. While most of this information will no doubt already be in the hands of fellow society members, there is a personal matter which I have left contained within."
"Events over the past decade have led me to suspect a fellow agent of hoarding her knowledge and not submitting it for review. This woman -- a surprising sensible gnome by the name of Eylysia -- has partaken of almost as many missions as I. Yet she reports only a third of what I have brought to light. In order to ensure knowledge is not concealed, I have begun an investigation into Eylysia and her activities here in Absalom, hoping to find her hidden repository of stored knowledge. Thus far, I have come across two promising leads."
"The first is Eylysia's contact with a well-known stonemason by the name of Arkath. I had the displeasure of meeting this fellow in his dying days, when he promised to take any secrets he held to his grave. He was interred in a mausoleum in the Ivy District weeks after our encounter, though I still believe there is more to his connection with Eylysia."
"Another lead is Eylysia's friendship with a member of Arcanamiruium, a local wizard's guild. The fellow is a gnome by the name of Fimbrik. All of my attempts to speak with him have failed, though, I have noted his home address in my files for followup."
"It is my sincere hope that I am able to return to discover what Eylysia has hidden, but should I not, I entrust this to my assistant Adolphus or any brave society agents who come across my unfinished work. ==Selmius Foster."
A second paper follow up on the first, and is written in a different more flowing hand.
"My mentor, Selmius Foster, is dead, slain during our journey to the island of Bhopan. I have taken up his investigation into Eylysia's activities, though recent developments mean my time in Absalom is short."
"My initial follow up of Foster's investigation into Arkath involved hiring several diviners to discern his veracity of Selmius's leads. It appears the stonemason was quite honest with my mentor, there is some key clue buried with him in his mausoleum."
"I have watched Eylysia for many months since my return, and I have caught her making additions to the Wall of Names -- the memorial built in honor of my departed mentor. She has add three names, none of which are true Pathfinders and are likely worth investigating. Their names are:
- Doulgonlir Caskmail
- Hollis 'Evil Grin' Thorne
- Karina Clamp
"Events are in motion that will soon take me to Quantium, after which I will be unable to conclude this investigation. I leave this hidden under the Wounded Wisp, in hopes that one day I might return, or that the Society endures its current woes and a future generation of agents can take up this cause. -- Adolphus."
Silverback |
Silverback takes in all the information.
"We have a few places we could investigate...the memorial...the mausoleum...this gnome Fimbrik's house...where do we start? Also, I suspect that we were not brought here to retrieve a bottle, after all," the druid scowls.
Willim Rupert Stichmund |
" As the newest member of the group I will not fight the impulse of the vets, Fimbrik's house sounds interesting. Where might it be or who might we find to locate it?"
Maximilian Q. Viveiros |
"A gnome, is he? My troop used to employ a few gnomes to do special effects, they were quite clever with tricks and illusions."
DM DoctorEvil |
The address for Fimbrik the gnome is actually in the stacks of paper on the desk. The gnome's residence turns out to be a sizable manor house in the Arcanamirium, the most prestigious magical school in the world. The home itself is an impressive stone dwelling with just enough eccentricities to show it belongs to a wizard and a gnome one, at that.
A brick step leads up to the front entrance of the house. Numerous stacks of newspapers, perhaps as many as two years' of monthly issues, are piled around the door of the place and a few are crammed into a thin slot at its base.
Ruinor Starflame |
Ruinor looks at the large pile of newspapers. "This doesn't look too promising. I guess we can go through the formality of knocking before we try to get in." Ruinor reaches over the pile of papers to knock on the door.
aid (perception): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
I'll aid someone with a better perception skill ... or not.
Silverback |
Silverback frowns at the pile of newspapers and strokes his beard.
"Why bother? Clearly no one is home and it's been abandoned for some time," he says as he tries the front door.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Willim Rupert Stichmund |
"Well let's look around for another entrance, knock open the door, or go some place else people."
Willim is curious about the entire situation, what are they seeking he wonders.
Orovan |
Orovan's smile turns to a frown as the door remains unopened. "I guess nobody is home." He pauses for a bit. "Anyone good with locks?"
