3 of 5 is a good start. I have a little craziness to deal with right now with move half-way across the country, but we'll start once the dust settles on that (or before).

Would also like to see Crux and our Paladin check in here.

Crew is:

"Sly" - Rogue
Crux - Wizard
Graxton - Cleric
Viviana - Inquisitor
Kalvin - Paladin

Have a little divine tilt at first blush but that should be fine. Going with these 5 unless you guys demand a 6th.

Hey Kalvin, do you have a full character sheet/build to add? I'd like to review and also check out backstory etc. Please let me know when it's up and viewable.

Now I have a vision of an all chaotic neutral Kingmaker campaign, where the party is full of rogues and con men trying to build a utopia of casinos, taverns, bordellos and other dens of iniquity. Problem with that is, of course, that trying to get a party of chaotic neutral characters to agree on ANYTHING would be like trying to herd cats...

I have a cousin Tomas who is in Garren's drug clutches.

I'm playing Kalvin as a young, naive, but steadfast Paladin.

Hang on, you don't want to stop the drugs? I must be missing something, as I would've presumed that a paladin of Iomedae would want to stop such a thing...

Incidentally, although I only briefly mentioned it in his background, Sly too took the Drug addict campaign trait. I need to fix that.

Sent out PM's regarding backstory and build questions. Once we have all backgrounds in place, we can get started.

How much do any of you know about Korvosa in advance of this game? Anyone have the Guide to Korvosa? I just need to know how much background on the city to give all of you.

Did everyone read the Player's Guide?

I've now edited my background as you requested Doc, and changed my campaign trait choice to Unhappy Childhood (tortured), which was a good thing as I'm now much happier with the back story as well. I have an ebook copy of the Guide to Korvosa, and I have read the player's guide for the campaign.

I am waiting on Graxton Soth to get campaign trait and appropriate background and then we can begin.

While we're waiting, can each of you tell me your living situation? Parents house, rent a flat and where, etc? This will be part of your regular cost of living. Also, if you have a real job, what is it?

I am living in a temple? I will look up in a few hours a good place/if there is one that would fit Soth well enough. Or perhaps he is working for barracks as support. Is there a merc group in our town?

Background will be updated later as well, just need to upload it, and not enough time to do it right now.

It's okay Grax. Mostly I need you to choose a campaign trait and tie to backstory. These are key in how we begin. Half orcs will be an issue anywhere in Korvosa outside the Shingles or docks.

Gorum is not revered there. It is a place of Law and Order even if not always Good. Not a stable merc group the korvosa guard, Sable Marines, and Order of the Nail are the official police and soldier types but they wouldn't have a cleric oGorum or a half Orc most likely.

Transitory doesn't really work for storyline either. C

Half-orcs are normally and issue anywhere until proven their worth, I hope to have some sort of contacts with the given background I have up, though that depends if those have developed or can develop later.

I sleep at the Chapel of Iomedae.

Hey Graxton, if possible, I'd like to remove the reference to prior relationship with Vencarol Orsini, he plays key NPC role in the game and the knowing him ahead of time doesn't work well.

I think being an informant and side black ops muscle for both the Cerulean Society and the Order of the Nail are fine (Though the Korovsan Guard is probably better then the Hellknights).

What campaign trait did you pick? If you need the list I can get it for you.

M Half-elf CN Rogue 1 | AC 15 T 13 FF 12 | CMB +2 CMD 15 | HP 9/9 | F +2 R +6 W +4 (+2) | Init +5 | Perc +8

Hmmm... Sly probably has a couple of rooms somewhere on Old Korvosa which he rents under an assumed name, and probably not in the worst part of the island. Can you suggest an area which caters to tradesmen, clerks, shop keepers and that sort of person? That would be the kind of area he would try to set up a modest and very discrete place to sleep. He probably has one or two places in the Shingles throughout Korvosa which can be used as safehouses, but naturally they'd be much lower rent, or even abandoned buildings. Sly doesn't have a regular job; he's a thief, so he either makes a successful heist every once in a while, or he starves.

I will remove Vencarol from the background then.

Oh yes, Hellknights would be the opposite of Graxton. I thought the Order of the Nail was the Korovsan Guard. Then there is the Sable company and the third group of order were the Hellknights.

I made a spoiler of the campaign trait: Unhappy Childhood, Religious: +2 on Concentration checks.

It should all be there and Graxton is set to go!

Apologies for my missing-ness! This PbP fell out of my bookmarks when I switched back from Chrome. How embarrassing-- I feel dumb for missing it for this long (since saturday but still).

Viviana sleeps in the House of Calistria. Her 'real job' is being the person who teaches the clients to respect the ladies, and she's kind of matronly in that regard. Korvosa doesn't have a House of Calistria per se, but I feel like it would be a fine addition to any number of sections of the city. I have the Guide to Korvosa and I'm actually running a Korvosan game right now dealing with a much more non-AP version of the city.

We can go with that idea; from your background, which I hadn't looked at before now (sorry!), the idea of sharing an apartment with Rodan would probably fit. He wouldn't be all that reliable for his share of the rent all of the time, but would certainly make good any debt the next time he made a decent score. If Graxton could deal with that, then let's say it's so.

Attention! The gameplay thread is now active and the game is afoot. Please head over and read your spoiler and proceed from there. Korvosa needs you, she just doesn't know it yet...

By the way Graxton; sorry for the post suggesting we may share an apartment. For some reason I thought that was what you were suggesting when I first read it; that's the kind of muzzy thinking that happens when I try and do my posts at three in the morning (my time). I'm happy to go with the idea that Graxton and Rodan at least know each other in some capacity however. Perhaps they train at the same fencing school, or just go to the same tavern, or something?

I sent PM's out to the others to see if they want to get in the action. Will wait for a bit and see if they bite.

Rodan, sharing an apartment made sense to me. On and off again apartment buddies, drinking buddies on Thursday (whatever it is called in Galorian. :P), and perhaps a bit of sparring. *Wink*

Viviana, it happens to us all, I have been busy here and there for the past week.

Glad you all made it to the game. If I start another campaign (I'm thinking about it, and retiring some of my characters instead) which would you prefer to see of the following choices:

1) Second Darkness
2) Reign of Winter
3) Shattered Star
4) The Dragon's Demand (new long module)
5) Crypt of the Everflame and subsequent
6) Temple of Elemental Evil
7) Other (specify)

I have my preferences, but want to see what the players think. If you can't take in a new game, help choose anyway.

4 looked really interesting and is concise, not like APs that might take ten, twelve levels to really come around. 2 sounded kind of cool.

Hmm... I just realized that I wrote Rodan into a dead-end there, roleplaying wise; if everyone else meets up on the street and keeps chatting to each other without entering the house, he's still going to be stuck up on his rooftop skulking around. Regrettably that's what happens when I try to play a character who is suspicious, sneaky and just a bit paranoid. No doubt he'll join the other characters inside the house, but I may be waiting a while to post, depending on how much roleplaying the others do outside. My bad... :p

Just remember that it's rude to assume that women with Calistrian symbols on their hands are whores when you first meet them. A good euphemism is 'priestess'. :P

It's all good. I did the same thing. You did in fact describe yourself as "the young paladin" so I just assumed I could tell, but in hindsight, there's no visual distinction to be able to tell that. I'll pretend I just used 'paladin' as a synonym for 'armored religious person' and move on with my head hung low.

That's the thing-- he describes people as smiling at him and greeting him. He'd have be wearing some kind of article that declares his allegiance-- like a police officer. You see a cop walk into the store and you say hello, sir, but if you see a guy with a gun walk into the store your blood runs cold. I don't see a lot of people smiling at a dude with a longsword in scale mail just walking through the neighborhood.

Just so no-one thinks that I'm deliberately making Rodan hard to get along with; he's paranoid, suspicious and cold to strangers - but loyal to those few he trusts and considers comrades.

His attitude towards the rest of the party will change after the first encounters, once he trusts that none of you are planning anything nefarious against him.

I'm also trying to play a completely different character to the one I play in Doc's other game; to whit, a sassy, busybody gnome sorceress who likes to be everyone's friend.

That said, feel free to roast the bastard if he's annoying you... :)

I tried to think of an in-character way for Viv to tell Rodan off without splitting the party forever but I couldn't; I had to settle for the silent treatment. Hopefully that won't be too bad and she'll shake out of her mood by the time Rodan stops thinking that Viv is out to get him.
