Zindelo - looks okay so far, need backstory etc

Sethran - need your background too. Looks strong don't need anymore min/maxing. Only arcane so far.

Baroch - sorry to see you go, but I get it. If you want to submit someone else, go for it.

Sandru here... Can have background by tomorrow.

Hm. That's what I get for trying to put it up in a hurry. I had made a few changes and written the backstory, but apparently didn't save them. Everything should be up now. The one thing I have to figure out is where to stow the character sheet so I can link to it.

I have a Fencing Sorcerer I've been meaning to try out. It fits all your requirements. I'll have to get him ready when I get home from work tonight.

Background:

The child of a reknown fencer and a Sorceress Ceers grew up learning techniques from both his parents. Though his family had more than enough money for him to never have to work he found himself bored with the lifestyle and the adventerous spirit he inherited from his parents drove him to seek out his own adventures.

I tend to wait to make an alias until I've been picked, so there's that.

Aside from that, does an Animal companion only start with the one bonus trick, or can I decide on some others?

As for my experience, I haven't played Pathfinder but for PBP, and I have been in a ROTR game before, but it went off the rails during the first goblin attack. Sadly, I haven't played in many games that have gotten much further than that.

Basics:
Full Name: Neroniuz Sar
Race: Human
Class: Sylvan Blooded Sorcerer
Gender: male
Size:
Age:
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Sivanah
Location: Sandpoint
Languages: Common, Varisian, Fey, Shoanti
Occupation: scholar

Strength 8
Dexterity 14
Constitution 12
Intelligence 14
Wisdom 10
Charisma 18

Background:
neroniuz was born in Korvosa, but never really fit in. His father was a minister sent by the Chelaxian government to represent their interests, his mother was a native Varisian. His father was a wizard, an infernal pactmaster, and was increasingly disappointed when his son showed no interest or talent in the family business. Instead, neroniuz preferred to spend his time outside, as far from civilization as he could get, which surely pleased his mother.

When he turned sixteen, neroniuz found that he could call a fire pelt to him, and that the animal would obey his commands. He began to regard the animal as a pet, and then a friend. Shortly afterward, neroniuz began to display the ability to cast spells that his father had tried for weeks to teach him. The man was elated at first, until he showed equal mastery of a spell that he'd never been taught. neroniuz's father immediately decided (correctly) that his son was a sorcery, and returned to Cheliax immediately, calling his wife a whore and mother of monsters as he left. neroniuz never saw his father again, to his delight. Without her husband to hold her down, neroniuz's mother returned to her family in the Sczarni.

Nero (pronounced closer to narrow than a certain, infamous emperor), as he is commonly called, quickly decided that admitting that he is a sorcerer was a losing strategy, and so allows others to believe that he is a druid. In truth, he enjoys the deception, as it allows him to act in way s he knows wouldn't be tolerated otherwise.

His mother's family are about the only people he's known who fully accept him, so much so that they gave him a kapenia when he reached adulthood, and he wears it proudly, considering himself a Varisian more than anything else. His family engages In all sorts of activities, from the criminal Sczarni to the accomplished bards, like his mother, and neroniuz there is no group or idea that he feels more loyal to.

Oh, what Wizard Schools are available? I assumed Transumtation. Maybe i shouldn't assume... is that lesser priority?

All tricks are tied to spoken nonsense words that sound vaguely similar to Varisian, though they don't sound anything like the Varisian word for that command.

I thought about making her last trick be entertain, since it would be a good way to get Zriorica past town guards, and the idea of the Szarni affiliated sorcerer conning his way past the city gates with his 'trained performance animal' seemed really cool. The only problem with that plan was that I can't put points into Perform without increasing her intelligence, and even then, with a charisma of 6, it would be a long time before that roll had much chance of success.

Either way, it will probably be a trick that Neroniuz teaches her at some point, if for no other reason that the fact that seeing a mountain lion with a fur pattern reminiscent of fire doing tricks is awesome, even if said mountain lion isn't very good at them. Especially since Neroniuz could mock hecklers by saying, 'Yeah, she may not be very good at dancing, but would you like to see something she's better at? Zriorica, hunt.'

In addition, I realized that I left some things off of the sheet for the AC. Here is what I forgot.

Sethan - if you want to take Transmutation that's fine with me. Prefer Wizard schools from Core or APG but can live with your choice.

Frankly, I am surprised at the lack of interest, usually these threads can have 100+ posts. Hmmm...makes the chosing easier I guess.

I'd like to submit my name to the recruitment! :)

I could also easily convert this character over to a Bard, with very little adjustment to his backstory if that will provide more options for recruitment.

When I started working on him last night, there was only one other arcane entry. Now there's several!

I also have this character that I made for Rise of the Runelords and played for about a week, before the GM bailed on the game. I wouldn't mind submitting him as well, if you don't mind me entering twice.

Humble apologies! Transmutation School is CORE!

A third RotRL group Doc? You are a glutton for punishment!

Aren't we players in Group A and B giving you enough grief?

"Don't believe a word he says! He plans to use you all to for horrible medical experiments, and then your orphans will be sold to a glue factory! Flee for your LIVES!"

I'd like to throw Ghars in as another candidate for selection. I've only posted his stat-block output from HL on the profile page at the moment. Some background history will follow soon; in brief, he's an Ulfen warrior whose family was slain by monsters, who has sworn to dedicate his life to slaying aberrations and other abominations in vengeance. Yes, I know that's very vanilla... I like vanilla. :)

As a player with vested interest...

Less is more... :-P

I'm surprised as well Doc... especially since your RotRL game has been fantastic. Folks, if you're reviewing this recruitment thread and you're humming and hawing about applying, I think I can safely vouch for group A when I say you need to try and get into Doc's game, because it will be made of both win and awesome.

Sorry my info is late, IRL stuff has prevented me from having the time to get him made up. I should have the time to get him made in the morning.

Are you allowing the Magus class? I have an idea for a Halfling Magus, but I could probably adapt it to a Sorcerer if need be....

Howdy. Like to throw my Monk of the Four Winds into the mix.

Stats are pretty much done but I may switch dex and wis around; making him into a wis-monk rather than a dex-monk.
Str 14, Dex 17*, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 15, Cha 7

Background and skills not written yet. Gimme another day to complete it.

Basically, being that he is torn between following the footsteps of his human paladin father or that of his elven ranger mother, he has decided to run away to find his own path. During his travels he has come to embrace the natural world and stumbles on an ancient order of monks that train to harness their bodies into weapons of the elemental forces. After his basic training is complete he is told that he must venture out to understand the ways of nature to fulfill his training. During his travels he come to Sandpoint where he needs to retrieve some supplies for his continued journey.
Need to add more but that is his basic background

I'm currently on two active Paizo campaigns; Rogue 1 and an Inquisitor 2/Sensei Monk 2 and having loads of fun playing both.

Greetings!

I have been trying to play this AP with this character for a while, now. I think I have been selected for 3 games so far, all of which vanished out from underneath me before we finished with the attack.

The character sheet (done manually) is in this profile. The attribute list on the bottom reflects the multiple attribute builds offered in the games which folded around me.

When I first came to these boards, I overdid my commitment and joined a bunch of games at once. I ended up walking away because, well, I had promised too much. I have since come back and tried to get into one or two games at a time. So far none of the games I've been selected for since coming back have survived. A couple of the ones in the over commit group are still running. Karmic, I guess.

I'm kinda proud of 'Dada, actually. Yeah, there's some min-max going on in his build, but not where people expect it and EXACTLY where it should be given his societal role.

The amount of time that he's been back in Sandpoint is obviously variable, other than it needing to be long enough for Shandor's caravan to have left him behind.

Interested in joining.
Viviana was made for another ROTRL game, could serve as healer, support fighter and diplomat.

(not sure why stat block is not showing under avatar, sorry. it's in the char sheet)

Is Rapid Reload an acceptable feat? From the Paizo Inner Sea book.

Rapid Reload <<< linkified, it's not critical to my build... just asking for a buddy.

What is critical to my build is spells!

Are these OK?

Gravity Bow (APG), Mage Armor, Shield, Color Spray, Magic Missile, Ant Haul (APG)

Trait: Magical Lineage (APG)
Metamagic Feat: Toppling Spell (UM), pretty please...

I just like the idea of a wizard getting frustrated and sending out force bolts that knock "could" knock folks on their bum!

Also, gear... at lower levels, don't need a huge spellbook... there is a travelling spellbook w/50 pages. Basically, it's lighter (when you have lower Str Wizards.

Yes, folks... He's Bass-azz, you don't wanna cross this Keebler!

==================================

Background: A lover of all things ancient, Sethran found himself in Kaer Maga at a small little known annex of his university. He'd been buried in books for years. But, he loved Thassilonian history, language and culture... so nteresting (Thassilonian Scholar Trait).

A week ago, he was summoned and given his first field assignment. It seems some of his own research was put together by those more experienced than him. Prophecies interpretted, evil is afoot, something sinister... Is it ever good?

But, at Sandpoint?!

He knew his work was good, solid... Someone who looked at it must have been mistaken. It happens, but no use arguing over it. He needed a vacation, anyway. And, as luck would have it there would be a festival. He liked the pageantry.

This would be good, he'd be back in no time. These old dusty tomes would no doubt keep.

=============================

Me? Been playing for nearly 30 years. Recently for about 2 years on these boards.

Notable characters:

  • Markus the Librarian - Human Fighter (Lore Warden)/Rogue (Knife Master)
  • Sandru - Goth steampunk experiment (half-orc) Barbarian, Fighter (Unbreakable)/Rogue (Trapsmith)
  • Sun-Dapple Grun - Grippli Cleric, Sun & Stealth domains
  • Andjela Daywalker - Dhampir Paladin (Divine Hunter/Warrior of the Holy Light)

RotRL - Once, dies after festival. Another time, almost got to Thistletop. Honestly, can't remember much. And, if I did... enough RP experience not to let if affect character action/reaction.

Alright - I've got a concept. Baro. Just putting him up now.

background:

Been playing D&D for 27 years now. Played about with PBeM a while back, and have been doing PbP here on the boards since about mid 2012.
I own RotRL, but haven't looked inside the adventure. I was interested in Lissala so have read some of the misc stuff in the back. Spent a lot of time on the boards, so I've accidentally picked up a few brief ideas about what may happen, mostly at the start... but not enough that I knew a Lissalan cleric was a bad idea.

Edit:should be good now

Sethran, I think the race and class entries only show up on your posts in IC threads, so that's probably why you are having trouble with that.

Makes sense!

Ceers complete. Sorry for the delay.

Just wanted to say sorry for not completing character background to go with the profile yet. Working on it now. Delay due to real life... sucky, sucky real life.

Huh, I made this incredibly witty and life-changing post last night, and it got eaten by the interwebs I guess.

Oh well. Please disregard the appearance by that feisty little gnome sorceress and her Varisian acrobat companion. They are both getting 50 lashes for getting loose from the basement I had them locked up in before...

Ok, I am planning on taking submissions until midnight US Central (about 3 hours from now), then cutting it off. I will be making first cuts and leaving a smaller group to ask a few additional questions etc to. Sometime tomorrow (I have an airplane trip and my schedule is at the whim of United Airlines...) I will make "final" choices. I will then test your character against pre-established criteria and ask some questions for clarity etc. Once all that's settled we can get down to business...

First point of order: Any one interested in continuing needs to give me a compelling (or random) reason your PC is on the road to Sandpoint, a backwater town on the Varisian coast. You may have included in your background, but please indulge me and list it again. A) this shows your watching the thread, and b) it shows who can follow orders, and C) it gives some insight to me about how to introduce you should you make the cut.

Second point: Please tell me which type of adventure you like best: McGuffin search, dungeon crawl, mystery, urban etc and why. It'll help me tailor gameplay a little.

PS: Answering IC gains you bonus points (as long as you do it right)

Alright, here are the list of submissions by type so far. My plan is to whittle the list down to 8 (2 of each type ideally, but not necessarily) and then measure them off. The AP calls for 4 PC's but I may take 1-2 more if I feel I can;t live without you.

The List

Melee
"Spears" Friggens - Human Fighter; ex-guardsman from Magnimar
Dolgrin Hammerfist - Dwarf Monk of Sacred Mountain
Baro - Paladin of Abadar; has a dark side - might fit in divine also
Ghars - Shoanti barbarian
Quan-tum Quinn - alliterative monk of 4 winds

Divine
Oswin Durnhelm - Human Cleric of Iomedae
Luciene Seren - Ancestral Wandering Oracle; speaks with dead
Zindelo - Drunken Human Cleric
Viviana - Human priestess of Shelyn

Skill
Alexandr Kramer - Human urban Ranger; from Magnimar Watch (I know Ranger could fit in Melee too).
Hardish Swift - Half-Elf Rogue with Shoanti ties
Totek - Shoanti Ranger with a big hammer
Gudada Purrun - Varisian Rogue who crashes ROTRL threads

Arcane
Sethran - elf wizard; transmutation school
Ceers - Sorceror air elemental
Neroniuz- Sylvan Sorceror with Firepelt companion
Beagan - gnome fey sorceror

So no Halflings, half-orcs or other odd races submitted. 1 gnome, 1 half-elf, 1 elf, 1 dwarf, and a bunch of Humans. Also, only 1 female character. Interesting that the spread is nearly equal across categories.

Have fun answering the questions above and I'll BBL to sort some things out.

Hey all is this game still taking applications?

if so I'll throw this one in the ring.

was in a runelord game that just died so some adjustments are required.

but the general idea for the character should all be in the profile.

should be enough to get a feel for the concepts and the role.

DM DoctorEvil wrote:

'Dada was traveling as part of Shandor's Varisian caravan. Gudada had spent his early and mid-childhood in Sandpoint, and when the caravan arrived, he was told that his mother was on her deathbed. Shandor and his caravan did not wait for Gudada, as he stayed to comfort her during her final days.

They are past. Now Gudada finds himself in a small town that is vaguely familiar, but has grown. He is without work, without family, and without a plan to return to the road, yet. Maybe he can make some coin during this festival, and use it to connect with a caravan that stopped to enjoy the loose pockets that festivals create. Maybe he'll have to pay to travel with a non-Varisian merchant caravan to get to a more centrally located town so that he can find a new home.

All Questions answered free of charge (of course you get what you pay for)

Noro - yep applications open until midnight central. Same DM just bailed on my Shattered Star game...

Gudada - we played in one game together for a few seconds when I was an axe-wielding Barbarian. That game was weird from get go.

Sethran - rapid reload, ok. Spells look okay. Can you link the Toppling Spell so I can peruse?

Arknight - Magus, magus, magus...you can submit him, but I don't have UM reference book, probably better to choose something else.

Ceers- thanks for finshing

Ghars - good luck, I know how RL can be...sometimes you need a Will saving throw.

DM DoctorEvil wrote:

Hunh? Really? /me scrambles to check DM's aliases . . ..

Ah! Khalbar Bllodsong! I had to follow the link to Khalbar's last post to see where/when that one died.

Yeah, that one felt weird once it was underway. Not so weird that the DM vanishing seemed to fit, mind you.

That was before I changed jobs and moved. I don't even try to access the forums from work at the new job. The previous job involved a lot of waiting. The current job involves a lot of higher management panic. Their panic and my gaming make for very poor bedfellows, so . . ..

Beagan is on the road to Sandpoint via trade caravan. He had sent a handful of letters to the director of the town's local theater, in hopes of starting his new life and bringing his comedy to a new crowd. He missed the smaller-town life he used to have in Whistledown over the big city of Korvosa. He paid a traveling caravan that was in route to deliver supplies for an upcoming festival to tag along, and now sits patiently waiting for arrive at his destination.

I think my favorite types of games are more investigative or urban. But, I love all styles really.

"Well friends I've spent the last year patrolling the roads from Magnimar to Windsong Abbey. I've slept in wagons, been put up in every two bit tavern and inn along the way, even camped on the road when I had to. Seems like every time I've come through this area your good Sherrif's put me up he's told me about how great this town is this time of year."

"I've been hearing these stories for nigh twelve months now, and I've heard enough. My appointment to this parish finishes today. I've got two months of leave accrued, and I thought I'd spend it here seeing if he's right. Sherrif says he's going to introduce me round, teach me to swim, and show me how to fish."

Leaning in a little Baro takes you into his confidence with a quiet whisper. "If I'm honest I've got to say I've a worry he might be looking to set me up with someone."

I just realized something. This character was rebuilt from another character, a tiefling illusionist. About the only thing the two have in common was the Sczarni relatives, though for the previous version, it was more an ancillary thing this version is completely on board with it. So suffice it to say, Neroniuz is not a scholar by trade, he is more of a good natured con man.

Anyway, in answer to your questions:

Neroniuz wrote:

Why am I headed to Sandpoint? Hmm, should I tell the truth or the edited version? Oh, why not? I suppose we won't likely meet each other again, and if we do, it's not like anyone that might be after me knows my real name anyway.

It all started in the house of a Riddleport noble. I suspect a lot of stories like this start in Riddleport, but that's not really important right now. As well, I'm not sure how someone becomes a noble in a city filled with brigands and pirates, but again, that's not part of the story. The short version is that the master of the house had just turned back toward me to ask how a 'house cat' like Zriorica here got so big, and how I managed to imitate the pattern of a fire pelt so well. The problem was that he turned just in time to see my cousin Alika heading out the door with the Thassilonian artifact that he'd been so proud of. After that there was a long moment when he and I exchanged awkward glances, before Zriorica and I bolted.

Alika left a duplicate in place when she took the real thing, but I don't think he would have believed it anymore. We all met up back at the wagons outside of town and got out of there before the hired thugs that town calls guards were any the wiser. Grandad said that the noble would likely put out a bounty on groups of Varisians, so we all decided to split up until some time passed. I have some friends that I heard were headed for Sandpoint, and it seemed like a quiet enough place to lay low, so here I am.

As for my preferred kind of trouble to get into, I would have to say a mystery is a great deal of fun, simply because there is nothing quite like the satisfaction of being right, or maybe joy of discovery, if you prefer.

Wow, I think I just channeled a more chatty version of Peter Rumancek there, but that seems fairly appropriate, considering what this character is.

Edit: Oh I hope so much that Neroniuz and Bora both get picked. A paladin of the god of law, order and good business in the same group as a proud thief? That is just too good for words.

okay, time to make first round of cuts. Will try to keep 8 or so around for next level taking it down to 4-6 for gametime.

I will try to give some reason behind my selection or lack of, but sometimes it came down to feel:

Melee
"Spears" Friggens - OUT Guess I'm just not feeling him. Seemed 1D to me.
Dolgrin Hammerfist - IN - only dwarf, plus dwarf monk is interesting
Baro - OUT - the paladin with a dark side thing seems a little distracting; I couldn't get his complex psychology in a few postings
Ghars - IN (for now) - need a Shoanti in the group, need to see your story to see if you stay.
Quan-tum Quinn - I like the dwarf monk concept better and can't see taking 2, sorry he looks good otherwise.
Noro - OUT - sorry you got bumped from game, hope you find a good spot.

So Dolgrin and Ghars stay, rest better luck next time. I hate cutting people, but already have 2 games running and can't start #4 (yet...)

I'll be honest, I haven't been trolling the recruitment boards in a while since I'm already playing in a Kingmaker and a pbp PFS game. I also have a RotR game going as a home brew that is basically pbp except for the combats. Otherwise, I probably would have apped, but being as the cut off is 40 minutes ago, I will graciously just watch and wait for another opportunity.

Now for Divine group:

Divine
Oswin Durnhelm - OUT probably my last cut; nothing wrong with him, just got edged.
Luciene Seren - OUT - not sure why, but Oracle is one of my least favorite classes; Witch is a close second...
Zindelo - IN I'm a fan of the Drunk God and I bet he'll be fun to see in RP action
Viviana - IN - only female submitted. Shelyn as patron looks fun to see how that plays out.

Viviana and Zindelo are IN for round 2. Others, we will see you down Desna's long wandering road.

I had some difficult choices with this group. If I take any extra it may be here. Wish a bard had stayed in, but here are my choices:

Skills
Alexandr Kramer - IN - I'd like to see how Mr Mediocre overcomes
Hardish Swift - OUT - just liked the other guys better
Totek - IN (for now) - I need Shoanti and the other guy (barbarian) may not finish in time.
Gudada Purrun - IN - I want to play down the living in Sandpoint business, but I want you get past the first fight, and I promise we'll get there...

Alexndr, Totek, and 'Dada stay. Only Hardish leaves, sorry bud. Better luck next time.

This group had no one who really wowwed me. I went with diversity instead figuring that would help round out the group.

Arcane
Sethran - IN - only elf, only wizard
Ceers - OUT - just a numbers game I'm afraid
Neroniuz - IN (for now) - would've gotten cut, but with Beagan/Totek undecided I kept you around. Gotta come from behind...
Beagan - IN - only gnome, I realize you and Totek are same user, we'll see how second round goes, and which one makes it.

So for now, Sethran, Beagan, and Nero in.

And so our group is down to 10 with 4 or so spots open but some are only in on a contingency:

Dolgrin - dwarf monk
Ghars - Shoanti Barbarian
Viviana - female human priestess of Shelyn
Zindelo - human cleric of Drunk God
Alexander - Human Ranger; mediocre ho-hum
Totek - only in if Ghars doesn't get a background in
Gudada Varisian rogue
Sethran - Elven Wizard
Beagan - out of Totek stays in
Nero - in only if Beagan falls out.

Ok, that;s complex...Ghars get your backstory done and let's see what happens.

For round 2, please explain how you see your character progression in terms of multiclassing, feats, foci etc. Again in IC would be better than out.

Grand Lodge

Out of the two, my preference of characters falls more heavily towards Beagan. If that makes any difference.

Ah well. Such is life I suppose. Aside from your personal dispositions on the class any concerns/critiques about it?

Oh well, maybe next time ^-^

I'll get the three requests done as soon as I finish up work. Bad office day.

Ghars - good luck, I know how RL can be...sometimes you need a Will saving throw.

Cheers Doc. A little bit of family trouble resulted in me having to babysit my nieces over the weekend. While I love having them around, the reason I had to take care of them, rather than their mother, was the sucky part. Will be posting a brief background for Ghars, and a rationale for his presence in Sandpoint, in about twenty minutes. Just need to tidy it up in Word first.

"So this is Sandpoint ? Such colorful place! I am glad that i decided to visit. I can't wait to see the festival.
Magnimar isn't that bad ,but it can get rather dull.
Especially with all my friends away, and my father watching my every step as if some dragon is going to snatch me from the street.....or some dashing scoundrel."

Viviana giggles.
"He would prefer the dragon i am sure.
Don't get me wrong ,he is wonderful man but i can't allow him to plant me in pot like his roses.
After all there is big world out there full of beauty and mystery, and i haven't seen none of it.
Sometimes i wish to be like this varissan minstrels here.
Wandering across the land, gathering lore, telling stories, bringing joy to people lives.
But i probably won't fit very well, anyway i am boring you with my babble.
Say ,where is the best place to stay in Sandpoint?"

Answering questions IC,to clear it i will not multiclass unless there is another dedicated divine caster, otherwise i can get some bard levels couse they feel right for Viviana

Oh well good luck Gudada nd every one else

Wasn't meant to be this time
