Twilight waited patiently for the door to be unlocked. She had been expecting to have to convince the occupants to open the door, but they seemed to be happy enough to open it of their own volition. As soon as she saw the door open she nods to Nargun and takes a step back.

Even as she did this, she was a little concerned about whatever the man had in his other hand. But events had been set in motion and there was no second guessing now. They were committed.

Nargun and Twilight

Breaking from his hiding spot, and shouldering into the door, Nargun surprises the sneering man, who screams a high-pitched womanish sound and stumbles backwards from the door in surprise. "Intruders, get them!" he shouts once he has recovered his wits enough to focus. He brings up his hand that was hidden behind the door, and you see a helical wand there soon trained on the invading dwarf.

From behind the door on the left, the dog starts barking and crying, obviously ready to join the fray. An eerie giggling sound seems to be coming from the door to the south, growing louder.

As the man stumbles backward into the room, and Nargun presses into the door, the room becomes more visible, though lit currently only by candle-light. A single desk sits in the center of this room with a moldy chair pushed up against it. A ratty pile of straw and furs is heaped under the desk.

This will drop everyone into rounds (even those not directly involved at present), as a fight will break out now. By rule, a candle only provides dim illumination, and that in a 5' radius around it. Attacks against those in dim illumination have a 20% miss chance, so if you don't have low-light vision, you'll have to consider that until another form of brighter illumination arrives.

GM Screen:

Nargun: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Twilight: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Devan: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Atticus and Mirela
Moving to the first of the double doors, Atticus tries pounding the nails into the jamb as before, satisfied that one of the doors is held fast. Just as he finishes, a womanish scream emanates from around the side of the building, and the dog inside starts up with furious barking again.

This occurs prior to rounds and combat. Any further actions will have to be taken in initiative order.

Devan and Aleira

As the door starts to shut, you can see, in the flickering torchlight, the Calistrian priestess nod to the dwarf, who slams his shoulder into the door, knocking it open, as the man inside stumbles out of view. It's pretty clear that the attack is in full swing.

Again, any actions for you will now be in rounds following the initiative order shown below.

Fishery Invasion - Round 1

23 Mirela
20 Atticus
17 Eyepatch & Red
16 Yargin
15 Twilight
12 Giggles
8 Aleira
8 Boy
8 Devan
6 Nargun

Technically, Mirela and Atticus have the first actions, but since they are far from the combat, I will post out of order to start and let them fill in until they get close.

As the scream resonates through the decrepit building, the door to the south flies open and a man with an eyepatch over one eye surveys the scene, mouth open in surprise. In his hands is the leash of a large dog, one with red fur, and angry yellow eyes. The dog is currently muzzled, but is straining at the leash, bunched muscles at the ready, trying to get at the intruders. Eyepatch steps back from the doorway, and bends down to release the muzzle of the big dog.

Having recovered his wits somewhat, the robed man who answered the door, retreats behind the desk to a door on the east side. He raises the wand, calling out a magical incantation, and...absolutely nothing happens. "Blasted wand!" cries Yargin cutting loose some of the absolute worst profanity you have ever heard.

GM Screen:

Yargin UMD: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Along with actions from Mirela and Atticus, Twilight is now up also. Remember the dim lighting inside the room. The man with the dog is in cover but the door on the south is open. Please see my note in Discussion about how we'll handle combat posts.

Twilight is still holding a torch in her left hand if that improves the lighting in some areas of the room

Twilight clutches her holy symbol beneath her shirt and quickly utters a prayer "Guide the axe of this dwarf who pursues your blessed works". Twilight feels the warmth of Callistria's attention on her as she gestures to Nargun.

Blessing of the Faithful, Nargun receives +2 sacred bonus to attack rolls for 1 round

Fishery Invasion - Round 1 - continued

As the Calistrian priestess calls forth a blessing on her dwarvish companion, his fighting prowess is divinely enhanced.

From the open door to the south, the source of the irritating giggling appears. It is a burly, half-orc brute carrying a flail. "You should just snap that wand, Yargin." chuckles the half-orc, laughing all the while. "It never seems to work when you need it. But this..." he brandishes his flail with a twist of his thick wrist, sending the spiked ball whirling, "This works every time." and he again breaks into howls of laughter. He advances to a point even with the big desk and takes a defensive stance, motioning for the dwarf to step inside his reach.

Aleira is up next. Devan, who shares the same initiative, can also go. Mirela and Atticus can act from around the corner as they see fit. Once someone with a torch goes in the room, the dim light issue will go away. Having the torch outside doesn't seem like it would raise the light above dim, unless it were right in the doorway, especially since one of the doors is still closed.

Devan's eyes bulge for a moment as he sees Nargun bull his way through the door, but he recovers his wits after a brief time, hearing the screams and banter of those inside. Yes, you're panicked, aren't you? How's it feel to be assaulted when you thought yourself safe?

The bard hears the fervent prayer of Twilight as she called upon her deity's aid. He had no connection to a god, but he had his own ways to aid his companions. He strode toward the door, his fingers placed upon the frets as he plucks a few resounding notes before pitching into a quick staccato pace.

"Daeron would never be denied!
His vengeance led him alone inside!"

Will move 4 left and 1 down, beside Twilight, then Inspire Courage. +1 competence bonus on attack and damage rolls and +1 on saving throws vs fear and charm effects for everybody.

I think I share initiative with Aleira, also. I do this action regardless.

Mirela picks up the dropped hammer and tries to shove it in between the door and some boards to jam the last door from opening.

OUch there was a post eaten. Atticus spikes the last door, then runs. As he is not the best fighter. But to not change everything.
No matter, Atticus turns round and takes the torch from Mirela and urges her on."Sorry, you are right. I have to focus on the problem at hand."

Fishery Invasion - Round 1 - continued

The scream from inside the fishery discombobulates the professor so badly that he looses he head for a second. He drops the hammer, and starts to rush toward the sound, then thinks better of it, and grabbing the torch from Mirela, helps her pin the last door closed withe claw hammer itself.

Mirela watches the antics of Atticus with cool detachment, finishing the job that he started before worrying about what might be happening inside.

Pinning the door (disabling a simple device) is a one-round action per the Core Rulebook. As such no move this round, except the merry-go-round with the torch and hammer. You can move towards the front door next round. Remember you'll have to either jump the railing or go out and around it. Your turns will still be up first in Round 2.

As enemies start to fill up the front room, another appears, this time opening the north door. A boy holding a savage-looking silver/blue dog by a leash stands there with a wicked smile on his face. "Sic 'em Bloo!" he cries dropping the leash. The boy then draws out a kukri from his hip sheath and steps into the room, nodding at the others.

The dog, Bloo, rushes towards Nargun, leaping to attack. Unfortunately, the dwarf is still just enough off balance from forcing the door to move out of the way, and the foaming jaws snap shut on his left arm, drawing first blood.

Nargun takes 4hp dmg from the dog bite. It did just hit your FF AC (since you haven't acted yet). At this point there are 4 bad guys (one is still inside the south room) and 2 dogs against you. Aleira is still up, I will DM-PC her if no action posted by tonight. Nargun is the only one remaining to act in this round. I think you can post anytime.

GM Screen:

Bloo Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Devan's action recap got eaten when my original post failed. Adding it here, a bit out of sequence...

Fishery Invasion - Round 1 - continued

Devan sees Nargun slam the door open and knows that means a fight. Instead of reaching for his weapon, he chooses to instill courage in his allies by performing. As he plays, he saunters up nearer the action, but far enough way to not get a face full of angry canine.

Inspire Courage buff is up for the whole party. Having played a bard frequently, this is always forgotten in tabletop games, so I imagine it will be harder to remember in PbP. I will try to remember to add a comment to Round recaps with the active buffs in place, especially since this is party of buffing fools.

With Bloo hanging from his left arm, Nargun tries to swing his axe in an inward arc that will hit the savage canine, but the angle is quite awkward and the pain intense, and his blow strikes nothing but the door frame, splintering it with the force of the blow.

Just to be clear, in addition to the IC buff, Nargun had the +2 sacred bonus from Twilight to his attack roll, but it wouldn't have been enough to matter.

Fishery Invasion - Round 2

Many enemies have responded to the invasion of the fishery, but no sign of Lamm yet. First blood was drawn by the fierce dog, but the company is starting to gather strength for the assault.

Hoping that the hammer will hold the second door fast, Mirela turns and sprints from the ramp, rushing to join what sounds like quite a fracas on the entry to the building. The Erastilian makes it around to the land side and can see her allies lined up to fight, but can't see inside to what dangers await.

Inside, the red dog is loosed from its muzzle. "Red attack!" cries the man with the eyepatch from inside the doorway of the next room, and the beast springs to comply. With only the north door open, the dog has a difficult angle to attack Nargun, but tries to savage his lower half from around the corner. The stout dwarf is just able to shift has leg enough that the red dog's jaws catch on his leg, but can't get any purchase.

Eyepatch turns back into the room out of view, obviously reaching for something.

At the back of the room now, Yargin, the man in the bathrobe, continues his profane tirade, shaking his wand, as he turns and enters the room from which the red dog just leapt.

Atticus is up. Assuming he will move towards the fight. Remember the barrier around the dock. Twilight is also up for those already engaged in the fight.

As Devan began to play his tune Twilight felt some of her nervousness drain away. She had never really been involved in a physical confrontation like this before. The academy stressed academics and arcane lore over arms and armour and she had carried over that focus when she joined the church, eschewing martial teachings in exchange for deeper divine and philosophical understanding. When the wild melee started she felt a little seed of doubt deep down. Devan's inspiring music took the edge off her concerns and allowed her to focus on the task at hand.

As she considered her next move, Twilight was forced to turn away and shield her face as Nargund's blow to the door sent a spray of splintered wood in her direction.

"By Calistria's barbed words! This dwarf is going to need more that simple divine guidance. I'm going to have to try to keep him alive before I help him hit our foes."

Twilight quickly reaches into the small pouch at her belt and pulls out a short, thin strip of paper with a prayer of protection written on it. As she speaks the words the writing briefly glow with a yellow light and fade away leaving the paper blank. She reaches out and gently touches Nargund's shoulder. He is surrounded by a faint yellow halo which quickly disappears, leaving behind an invisible blessing shielding him from harm.

As Devan played, his eyes widened in shock as the uninspiringly named 'Bloo' grabbed hold of the dwarf's arm vicioucly, drops of blood spraying as the dog clamped down and shook its head before Nargun could push it off. His fingers never stopped dancing along the strings, though, the quick pace of the tune in rhythm to the frantic beating of his heart. His body knew what to do, even if his mind was almost paralyzed now that the time for violence had started.

The bard breathed a quick sigh of relief as the professor and Erastilan came huffing around the building, intent on joining the fray. Aleira was doing something that seemed to be causing the vicious dog dismay, and the Calistrian again called upon her goddess for her favors. Much as he wanted to continue in his comfort zone, he couldn't let the gruff dwarf be overwhelmed. The musician continued to play as he side-stepped past Twilight, getting ready to join the melee.

Following the lead of Mirela, Atticus turns and runs towards the sound of the fighting near the front, torch still in hand. You might recall me mentioning you were medium encumbered before this means your move speed is only 20' round. I moved you back a couple squares as a result.

Twilight realizes Nargun will need defensive help with all the foes in the room, and dabbles in her spell pouch to bring forth the right component. Once in hand, her incantation provides a warding spell for the dwarf barbarian which makes him harder to hit.

The flail-wielding barbarian continues laughing in a grating giggle, "Look at those dogs attacking that dwarf! Hilarious!" he cries with apparent glee. His mirth belies his martial danger and he swings his flail about in small circles, waiting for an opportunity to advance. Readied action

Continuing his magical inspiration, Devan realizes Nargun needs melee support and despite his unfamiliarity with weapons of war, he steps toward the closed door on the south side, shouldering his lute as he comes.

Bloo, with a mouthful of Nargun's arm, seems surprised when his muscular jaw cannot stay locked onto the intruder, and he drops to the floor growling noisily in frustration. Shield of Faith saved him. Well done

You will note that the southernmost of the two double doors is still closed, only the northern one is open. Devan, you may reconfigure your move, if you didn't realize that. Taking a turn for Aleira to keep the action moving. Please post DM-PC actions in Discussion if you aren't happy with my choices.

Seeing Nargun overwhelmed with the guard dogs, Aleira steps sideways to get a better view of the interior around the closed south door. Once she has a good line of sight towards the red dog, she shouts some words in an arcane tongue, points her forked fingers at the dog, and spits once, cursing the poor beast to attack with less ferocity than before.

Evil Eye on Red Dog, it fails the Will save and will have the-2 penalty to attacks, likely for the rest of its life...

Gritting his teeth against the pain, and thankful the blue dog has dropped from his arm, Nargun is able to reload for an on-balance swing, especially inspired by the strumming of Devan behind him. Knowing he has to make this stroke count the dwarf is able to land a telling blow, and Bloo goes down with a sharp yelp pain.

As the dog falls, and Nargun yells at him, Giggles the half-orc continues to laugh, stepping forward and swinging his flail at the troublesome dwarf. "You're funny, little dwarf. Let's see what you think of this." The ball of the flail whistles through the air with a deadly sweet sound but rather than smashing in the face of Nargun, it stops inert inches from his face and falls to the ground harmlessly.

Sorry for the delay, gang. Had hoped to get two posts in today, but time kind of got away from me while back at the office. This should get us back on track.

Fishery Invasion - Round 3 - continued

Rushing forward and unshouldering her bow, Mirela sizes up the scene, realizing that Nargun and Giggles block any easy shot into the interior which is dimly lit. If the other door were opened, she might have a better chance.

Atticus falls into place behind Nargun, goading the giggling half-orc, but the target only laughs the louder saying "Wait till I have you, skinny man. I'll show you what flails are good for!"

The red dog continues to attack the leg of Nargun, but cannot bite him around the closed door corner.

From beyond the other room, the man with the eyepatch returns with a blade in hand. He advances to the area behind the remaining hound.

From inside the other room, another string of curses fills the air along with the jarring sound of shattering glass.

Mirela could shoot into the dim room, but would have low-light miss chance and a significant cover penalty from all the bodies blocking the doorway. The intimidate try was obviously a fail...It appears Twilight, Aleira, and Devan are up next.

Aleira points at Giggles, curling her lip into a sneer and whispering under her breath as the fight continues...

Evil Eye-2 to hit for 7 rounds, will save for 1/2.

Twilight looks at the laughing half orc with concern. Although he sounds like a fool, the skill and power with which he is wielding the flail has her worried.

She whispers under her breath as she clutches her holy symbol once more.

"Calistria, ward this dwarf from harm as he carries out your divine will"

Faint motes of yellow sparkles briefly dance around Nargund before fading from view.

Blessing of the Faithful on Nargun: +2 sacred bonus to AC for 1 round.
Ongoing: Shield of faith on Nargun. +2 deflection to AC for 9 rounds.

Twilight then takes a step back and waves over Mirela, motioning to the spot Twilight just vacated.

Devan notes the arrival of the other two as they rush up, the fight quickly turning into a huge bottleneck at the door. The bard draws the gleaming rapier at his side, whispering quietly to himself the instructions the shopkeeper had given him. "Thrust, don't slash." Looking at the menacing half-orc and more importantly the weapon spinning dangerous circuits that the maniac possessed, the musician tightened his grip on the pommel and stepped up next to Nargun.

"Fish delivery for ya, ugly!" Devan had meant it as a taunt, but his voice cracked nervously as he stepped into range of the dangerous weapon, giving Mirela and her bow a concerned look as the woman appeared to be contemplating a shot.

Seeing Twilight give Nargun some kind of protective aid, Devan tries to disrupt the timing of the half-orc's spinning rhythm in the hopes of providing an easier target for Nargun. While the young man managed to get the timing right, he nearly has the rapier wrenched from his hands by the flail.

Aid Another: 1d20 ⇒ 6

Fishery Invasion - Round 3 - continued

Invoking the favor of Calistra once more, Twilight provides another lay of protection on the dwarven barbarian who appears to be under attack from several enemies at once. As the yellow aura falls around Nargun, the priestess steps aside, clearing the doorway for others who might join the fight.

Again, sending curses towards her foes, Aleira targets the giggling half-orc this time, hoping to reduce his martial prowess enough for Nargun to have a chance in the fight. The young witch can tell the duration of the hex will be only short-lived as Giggles shrugs off most of the effect.

"Giggles, get them clear of the doorway! Patch and I want in this fight too!" shouts the boy in frustration. He looks ready to spring into the fight should a space present itself, brandishing his kukri and smiling with an evil grin.

Perception DC 25:
If you focus on the "boy" closely, you can see that its no boy at all. The kukri-wielding foe is really a gnome in disguise.

Poking his rapier in around the corner of the still-closed door, Devan tries to distract the flail-wielding half-orc enough to give Nargun a shot against him, unfortunately, his lack of experience with the weapon almost causes him to drop the dueling blade, rather than make a successful attack, and his efforts end in failure.

The brute strength of Giggles is on display as the flail head comes whistling down in a murderous arc, but the swing is ill-aimed and smashes into the doorframe above Nargun, sending slivers of wood showering down upon the dwarf's head. The snickering continuing all the while.

Giggles made the Will save vs Evil Eye. Nargun gets more AC buff. The door that Devan stands in front of is still closed, so his attacks (or aid attempts) have to come around a hard corner which provides some cover. If you want to open the door, its a move action, which you still have this round technically, but that exposes you to the dog. Just LMK. Inspire Courage ends? After all that, Nargun is up next to close Round 3.

Nargun parries and slashes, but the half orc manage to block the big axe with his flail

Atticus sees the orc holding door and sighs. "Nargun now kill him!"

Fishery Invasion - Round 3 - concluded

With magical wards protecting him, and curses affecting his foe, Nargun swings his dwarvish axe once more at the giggling half-orc, but his stroke is sidestepped, and the axe carves nothing but air.

Even with the hatred bonus, it's not enough to make a hit. Per Devan, IC is not active as of the end of his turn. On to Round 4.

Fishery Invasion - Round 4

Hexes have flown, buffs have been delivered, but the fight isn't any closer to being won.

Mirela and Atticus are up. Remember the south door is still closed which causes a problem for LoS and creates cover. Also, the interior of the room is dim light (the candle is now not even present) so those without low-light vision have a miss chance.

Fishery Invasion - Round 4 - continued

Mirela is frustrated by the bottleneck at the doorway, and cries out to Devan to try to open the other double door. She steps forward, ready for the fight to get more intense. She then calls forth the blessing of Erastil on the her group of allies, strengthening their resolve and courage.

From behind the combat, Atticus continues to try to badger the foes, but either they are too confident or he just isn't scary enough. Eyepatch shakes his head in dismay, grimacing for the fight ahead and ignoring the derision from the professor.

Red Dog continues to follow his master's commands, attacking the feet of the stout dwarf from around the corner of the closed door. He still carries the effects of Aleria's evil eye, but despite that and the warding protecting Nargun, his leg gets bitten again.

From behind the dog, Eyepatch calls out "Good boy, Red! Give 'em hell!" and crouches at the ready. Giggles just continues laughing...

Appearing once again in the doorway, the man in the once-luxurious bathrobe now holds a glass vial in one hand, filled with a clear liquid. His spiral wand is still held in the other. He sneers at you clearly with malice of forethought in mind.

Craft Alchemy DC 10:
You recognize the glass vial as an acid flask. Thaat can't be good...

Nargun takes 3 more HP damage. Dog rolled a Natural 20 which is autohit. At least it didn't confirm...Eyepatch has a readied action as well as the young boy. Twilight, Aleira, and Devan are up for the good guys. Don't forget your Bless buff.

GM Screen:

Red Dog, evil eye, corner: 1d20 + 2 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 - 2 - 2 = 18

Devan glanced at Nargun worriedly as the other dog managed to latch on to the dwarf's leg, the fierce warrior starting to wear down due to attrition. As Mirela called out about the bottleneck, the bard glanced back in frustration. Allowing more enemies to pour through the opening seemed foolhardy. As he looked at the Erastilan's resolute features and felt the blessings of her god infuse him with power he nodded. He was hungry for revenge, and this riff raff was in the way.

Devan threw open the southern door with his off hand as he warily watched the spinning metal head of the half-orc's flail, then snapped the point of his weapon forward at the dog harrying Nargun.

Attack + Bless: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Gritting his teeth in frustration as the dog danced around the attack, the musician stepped to the side, allowing Mirela a clean shot. He shares a worried glance with Twilight as he steps nearer the Calistrian, weapon held at the ready.

"This isn't going very well. It's time I took some chances to see if I can turn our luck around."

Twilight ducks through the party and sneaks in front of Aleira.

As she passes in front of Atticus she gives a wry smile and says "If you want to goad these people into brash actions you're going to have to give up a little of your dignity and find some slurs that are as low as their station".

Once beside Nargun, Twilight holds one hand to her lips and kisses the tips of her fingers. She waits for a moment until an opportunity presents itself before gently caressing the back of Nargun's neck. "A gift from the Lady in the Room, it looks like we need a little change in our fortunes."

Craft Alchemy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Twilight recognizes what the vial contains. Sister Lydia had taught her about the appropriate application of such a substance as retribution for a particular type of offence.

"Look out, he has acid!" Twilight warns the group.

Bit of luck on Nargun. For 1 round, roll 2d20 and take the more favourable result on all rolls.
Ongoing: Shield of faith on Nargun. +2 deflection to AC for 8 rounds.

Aleira switches her gaze to the man in the bathrobe and concentrates once again, muttering a few words and spitting at the man as she steps back to make space for the others.

Evil Eye: on 'bathrobe' -2 to hit

Fishery Invasion - Round 4 - continued

Trying to turn the tide of the stalemate, Twilight steps forward and with a gentle touch, divinely passes a bit of luck to Nargun, who could really use it. As she's a bit closer, she recognizes the flask in the hand of Yargin and shouts a warning to the rest of the group.

Hearing the warning, Aleira turns her hex power on Yargin, trying to curse his throwing ability should he lob the glass jar of acid into the fight. The sneering man is able to fight through most of the hex effect but is still affected for a short time. Made the save, 1 round duration. See my note in Discussion re: Evil Eye.

After being encouraged by the others, Devan pushes the second door open, clearing the way for an attack with his rapier on Giggles. But his inexperience is telling, even with some magical aid, and the thrust is far from being successful. Knowing Mirela needs a clean shot, he then sidesteps to the south to clear the line of sight.

The young boy seems quite impatient to get into the fight, and without a foe in reach, clambers atop the old desk in the middle of the room so that he's more able to see clearly.

Giggles continues the grating laughter and swings the flail mercilessly at Nargun. Again the weapon seems destined to smash the dwarf, and again the divine ward from Calistria causes it to fall harmlessly to the ground. Trying to clear the logjam at the doorway, Giggles falls back to the area next to the desk.

Shield of Faith has never been so useful! I believe that's the 3rd attack this combat that would've been a hit without it. Nargun, who has now taken 7hp dmg total, is up now. Only the red dog is within his reach, and both doors are now open. He also has Bless and a Bit of Luck on his side. See my note in Discussion about Evil Eye.

Nargun tries to hit the dog, and the beast is about to dodge the blow... and it seems the axe moves by itself, as if the weapon had is own will, to finally strike

Fishery Invasion - Round 4 - concluded

Feeling the flow of power from Calistra, Nargun's axe blow self-corrects, striking a lethal blow to the remaining dog, who dies silently.
