Ok, here is the discussion thread! How's it going everyone?

Hey, let me just take this opportunity to thank you for running and including me in this play by post game - it's helping me get the rules down a little better since I have the luxury of looking stuff up in between posts.

Once this adventure has run its course, an adventure path is something I'd really like to do, either as a DM or player. The only ones I've read have been Council of Thieves, Carrion Crown, and Jade Regent, and mostly just the first volumes. If anybody is interested in doing one of these in a PbP, let me know. They tend to go on for a LONG time though.

I'd also like to say that our online group seems pretty good so far! Good roleplaying and actions.

Oh and finally, before this turns into a wall of text, are we considering getting a replacement player for Artagan? I'd say two weeks with no response means he's probably out.

Liberty's Edge

Well I am certainly enjoying this. Thank you for DMing Deinol. I look forward to our continued adventures...if we survive.

Liberty's Edge

I hope your conference is going well.

Male

I will worry about Artagan's absence when I return from the show. Let's continue on for now.

After the adventure is concluded we can certainly continue play in some way. Either we can start an AP with the same characters or start a fresh one. Or we can continue on and I could place Dragon's Delve (DungeonADay.com) in the nearby ruins of a keep.

I own all the APs (although so far I've only read Second Darkness, Legacy of Fire, and Kingmaker), Castle Whiterock, Ptolus, and a lot of modules. So whatever you guys want to do is fine by me.

Conference is going well, but keeps me busy. I have to wait here at the hotel for a delivery so I finally have some breathing space. I get to do courtesy tech support visits to all the vessels that have our product installed, so I don't actually get to see much of the actual show.

Liberty's Edge

Any chance we can get a few hp boss?

You get a nights rest, so that's 1 hp each. You do have a fair number of unused healing potions.

Liberty's Edge

We did just get two. Should I pop one do you think guys?

Male

Ok, I am back home. My posting schedule should resume its normal pace. Thanks for your patience.

Should I make some heal checks to see how wounded everyone is?
Or just one for the group?
Or do I need to worry about it now?

Male

Make one for the group.

Liberty's Edge

Huzzah!

Game Master

Just wanted to say thanks to Deinol for doing the rough sketch map, it helped me visualize where we were a bit.

Also, I had two posts that didn't show up, probably because I hit preview and then didn't submit them. Sorry.

Male

Just poke me periodically and I'll update the map. I have a fancy one to refer to, so I don't always know if my descriptions get the right meaning across.

How is the statue room multi-level?
You mentioned going downstairs to see the bottom of the statue.

Male

From the room description: The southern half of this lofty chamber has a lowered floor, with stairs on either side to reach the bottom. Standing in the lower section facing north is a tall wooden statue of Kassen grasping a gigantic wooden shield in each hand

So the north half of the room is high up, the south half is lowered. There are stairs running north south along the east and west walls to get down to the lower area.

Male

I should clarify that the upper section is about 30 feet east-west and 15 feet north-south, and the lower section is the same width but 20 feet north-south. The drop is about 10 feet, and the stairs are 10 feet long. The statue is on a pedestal in the lower section, which is raised a few feet above the ground so its head and chest is above the floor level of the upper section.

Male

I am traveling for work next week and vacation the following week. I should still have internet access, but my posting rate my slow a bit.

Liberty's Edge

roger. Thanks for the heads up.

Male

It's been one of those weeks. I'll get things moved along. ;)

Male

It seems my map update didn't stick, which led to some confusion. I'll post it again tonight when I get back to civilization.

Male

Ok, I'm back from my vacation, but I need a day to catch up on all the emergency things at work. I'll move things along again tonight or tomorrow morning.

Male Humanish Pilot/8; Argumentative/4; Biologist/5; Medical Student/2

Sounds good. I would rather have a well prepared game that we all enjoy rather than making it work for you deinol.

Male

I'm prepared up to the next couple encounters. It's my actual tabletop game tonight that I haven't had a chance to prep for. I have some rough plans, so I should be able to wing it. I hope. ;)

I've had the plague the last few days, not keeping food down. I hope to be back up to speed in a couple of days.

Male

I expect things will be a little sporadic during the holiday season for everyone.

Male

It's probably a bit late to mention this, but I think a shield bash consistently does more damage than a long sword against skeletons.

Male 1/2 Elven Ranger/Rogue 2/1

With the rolls I been making I would just hurt myself!!

Male

So... At this point it seems that Kerren and Santoval are screwed. We could have you two make new characters as reinforcements from the village, arriving after being warned by Artagan of the situation.

Liberty's Edge

Poor Santoval...I hardly knew him. Sooooo, cleric? That is my plan at least. I won't flesh him out until after the adventure is done, he will just be bare bones.

Happy new year!

Male

Cayden Cailean and Erastil are my favorites. Nethys is pretty cool too.

Game Master

Ah, I haven't been checking the discussion thread. Deinol, you might be right, the shield bash might have overcome the DR of the skeletons marginally better, but it would have only been with some extraordinary luck that I would have been able to defeat all of them that way anyways.

Anyways, the better part of discretion is valor, right? Looking forward to see what you guys come up with for new characters, if that's the route we're going. I'm sort of fond of Anton at this point.

Cleric and wizard needed, apply within crypt. :)

I'll try Oracle... does anyone have a problem with that?

Game Master

Actually, our previous group member was an Oracle, and if I remember had a nice way to turn undead which would really come in handy. Go for it!

Male 1/2 Elven Ranger/Rogue 2/1

I need a heavy mace...dont leave home (or go into a crypt) without one!!!

Male 1/2 Elven Ranger/Rogue 2/1

is it possible to keep yarroth?? did they get enough xp to go up a level??

Game Master

Yarroth, you and I were the only ones who made it out of there. I'd keep going with the character - my rule is if he isn't dead, he's worth having around.

I'm hoping Anton gets his moment of (death or) glory.

Male

If by marginally better you mean destroy them with minimum damage. :)

You guys can pick up a mace or two from the fallen villagers at the entrance.

New characters can start with an extra 300 in starting gold.

You guys are very close to level 2, but not quite there yet.

Male 1/2 Elven Ranger/Rogue 2/1

Get me one of those maces then!!! And I guess we should rest for the day and get back some hp...I hope we get a cleric this time round!! I think Yarroth might take a level as rogue..he really did not like the traps and locked doors...so he wan to be ready next time!!

Liberty's Edge

ooooh....more gold. Cleric will be here shortly. I am skimping on the backstory for now.

Liberty's Edge

Um, just to ask...is Santoval really dead? I didn't do the math or count the rounds...and I would rather him survive...

I would feel dishonest creating a new character if I didn't at least ask.

Male

He could have lived, had the others defeated the skeletons. But by the time the others get back the skeletons will have finished him off. :(

Male

Also, I'm good with a just-in-time back story. Feel free to embellish as we go.

Yeah, I checked that out in the rulebook. I'm facepalming hard right now. I must have been thinking of some other system.

Librarian 2

Its ok. I will miss Santoval, but I am beginning to like Tarric. He should be interesting, and since the party really needed a good cleric, I thought that I would step up.

So, Kerren is dead too then?

I spent the holidays in the hospital so I'm a we bit slow right now. Give me a couple of days and I'll have a new char ready.

Could I use one of the pregens from Gothic Heroes?
(I already have the pdf.)
Then I can have someone ready much quicker... like tomorrow night.

Male

I don't have that PDF, but I'm sure a pre-gen from it would be fine if you find one that suits you.

Sorry about the brutality that is first level. Things would have gone much differently if the skeletons hadn't scored those early criticals.

I also spent half the weekend taking my wife to the doctors (just a bad infection, she's much better with some anti-biotics.) I hope you're feeling better!

Male

You pick a character out yet Fray?

Librarian 2

Grrrr. The more I re-read that first post of this character, the more I hate it. I swear that I wasn't trying to come across as a shrill hyperkinetic jerk.

Male 1/2 Elven Ranger/Rogue 2/1

Hey I liked it.....you sounded like an over enthusiastic couch potato who has finally got himself into the game!!
