Ok, I think that I am close to figuring out how to play the Judge.
Classes (most likely): Bard(Negotiator) 13/Anti-Paladin 2
Mythic Path - Marshal
Spells: A mix of buff and debuff. His DC on spells should be astronomical, so he is likely to grab a few fun spells like Confusion and other mind altering/illusion type spells.
The Judge should have a fairly good AC and HP, so he is likely to be more combat oriented - effectively, we have lost a combatant in Morsum, so the Judge will fill in as a tank. His damage will be ok. I am hoping to be able to grab Combat Expertise/Butterfly Sting and Weapon Finesse(mythic) -- probably with the Rogue abilities from the archetype.

I don't think Zoren would mind making an item here or there. Maybe a random % chance that he charges full price instead of half price (randomly picked among Jax's items which he bought at full price and which he got at 50% off). Simply because I feel bad buying -everything- at half price. He has craft wand, ring and wondrous item.
Zoren is also now a Wizard 5/Ninja 3/Arcane Trickster 4 ..far from an optimized caster, but he's a support character!

DM, do we get Leadership bonuses for great renown, special power or having a base of operations? LIkewise, do we take penalties for being cruel simply for being evil, or for being particularly mean to others (something Jax hasn't been).
You mean, other than stone murdering someone in order to satisfy your curiosity about a magic item? Well, currently your net modifier is +0. You've gained great renown (+2), but you're currently moving around a lot (-1) and have caused the death of followers (-1).
That last happened when you had to abandon a bunch of followers in the Vale of Valtaerna, when an army of Good showed up unexpectedly fast, bent on avenging the massacre that you'd just committed there. Since your job was to massacre the priests, monks and healers of the Vale (and snuff out the Eternal Flame, which was guarded by a phoenix and an angel), you saw no point in staying around to die in a fight against impossible odds. But you had to leave a lot of people behind.

I have been thinking about feats. Here is my proposed feats. I have a lot, but many are derivative of the Vampire feat chain.
Level 1 - Combat Expertise
Level 2 - Stealth Synergy (campaign bonus, teamwork)
Level 2 - Weapon Finesse (Bard/Rogue Talent (Finesse Rogue))
Level 3 - the Bitten (Alertness bonus)
Level 5 - the Descent (Toughness bonus)
Level 6 - Improved Feint (Bard/Rogue Talent)
Level 7 - the Risen (Dodge, Lightning Reflexes, Improved Init bonuses)
Level 9 - the Initiated (Combat Reflexes)
Level 10 - Leadership (Bard/Rogue Talent (Feat))
Level 11 - True Vampirism
Level 13 - Butterfly Sting
Level 15 - Greater Feint
Mythic Path Marshal
Mythic Feat - Improved Feint (Mythic)
Mythic Path Ability (Bonus Feat) -- Greater Feint (Mythic)
--------
If anyone has any thoughts about this, please let me know. I would really like the Rumormonger Rogue Talent, but need one more level for that. Also, I would love Improved Evasion, but once more need more levels or feats for that. Otherwise, I need to drop something. I have quite a few feats tied into the Feint chain which might be a waste, but seems like the Judge's motto.

Don't know. Trying to figure out what to do. He is purely charisma based. Any other thoughts are appreciated. I figure that by using Feint, he can set up combatants for our Anti-Paladin. I will try to think about it more later tonight. Need to get some real work done first.
If I don't go Feint, I am open to other options.

ok I am going to make my armor legendary (Upgradable, Rejuvenating, Undetectable)
Allows me to save money upgrading it from a +1 to a +5 lets me heal myself some, and makes me completely undetectable when I am invisible.)
If you're going to create a legendary item, feel free to come up with a cool backstory for it.
(If you don't want to bother, here's the default backstory: it belonged to a gnome champion who came from the First World to help an ancient king of Talingarde defeat some terrible evil. It's been in the Royal treasury for a long time, because Talingarde didn't have a lot of Small-sized high-level heroes. You guys had the chance to make a quick pass through the Treasury a little while back... you didn't have time to linger and sack it properly, but you made sure to snag that armor. It's still decorated with some stupid gnome stuff, so probably any gnome who sees you wearing it will be upset. But what do you care? Stupid gnomes.)

ok i won't worry about it judge
I am thinking it is somehow the result of the destruction of Zargo and the angel. Maybe with my celestial poisoning I weaker the celestial and drained it of blood or something and created the armor. I will give it some serious thought
So my chain shirt will be +5 Deathless, Mirrored, Rejuvenating, Undetectable)
With some of the money I am saving I am making my blowgun also seeking and my bow also shocking. might add some more to those, I will spend a good chunk of change on more spells too.
I recommend everyone save some diamond dust for restoration.
Dren will you be taking Raise Dead and Restoration?
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
Meh - if I wanted an Imp named Morsum, I would have gone with the Cleric(Fiendish Vessel) and gotten a fun Imp.
Also, it is easier to just take the Magician or Sandman archetypes of Bard and grab the spells. I thought about this a lot and decided that he was more of a sneaky a**hole than a pure caster. That is why I dropped those two archetypes. The Judge is the guy who convinces everyone that everything is just fine and that they should go back to drinking, while he sucks the lifeblood from some worthless noble in the corner.

You can have Celestial Armor -- the assumption here is that you took it as loot. Mind, there's a 50% chance it'll have some identifying marks on it: 1d20 ⇒ 6 Yes, it has a big Mitran sunburst on the front and heraldry suggesting that you're a cleric of the Order of Saint Macarius. Of course, you can wear clothes over it, so probably not a big deal.
Douglas Muir 406 |
We used the Hound Master initialy.
Okay. Treat Ragnar as an Animal Companion with the Fiendish template, and advance him as per a normal Animal companion This replaces your Fiendish Boon (so you can't suddenly turn your axe flaming or whatever). If you want to give up Ragnar and take the Boon instead, you may.
Note that Ragnar gets three ability bumps. He starts with Int 2, so you could boost his Int as high as 5. Once his Int hits 3, he's sapient and can understand speech and simple instructions (though he still can't talk).
For purposes of advancing Ragnar, all your levels (in whatever class) stack -- he's a special gift from Hell.

Jax wouldn't even bother trying to hide it. He'll laugh at it every time he sees a mirror.

It's been a while since I've run high level characters, and I've never done Mythic. Everybody flying, lots of buffs, crazy amounts of damage, high level spells... it's really a different game. So, there may be some shakedown issues while we figure out what works.
Luckily none of us are crazy optimized full casters. Soren has scry
and teleport though...jax has near permanent flight and teleport. There won't be much worry of summon monster spam, lots if save or sucks, crazy debuffs or barbarian chargers one shorting everything...Douglas Muir 406 |
A thing to think about going forward: if we continue this campaign (very much an open question), at the very highest levels -- like 19th, 20th -- PVP comes back on the table. You don't HAVE to engage in PVP, ever. But if you make yourselves rulers of Talingarde, accountable to no one but Hell... well, at that point there's nothing stopping you from reducing the number of overlords to a more convenient figure.
We are NOT at that point yet! Not only are you still bound by your contract, but Cardinal Thorn is actively trying to kill you. So, even putting aside that you're contract-bound and (mostly) Lawful, simple good sense should keep you from doing anything that could weaken the party.
For now.

Meanwhile, when you have a moment: We skipped over nine levels and about two years of game time. A lot happened in that time. Some of it I know; some of it remains to be filled in.
What I'd like from each of you is at least one (could be more) Moment of Awesome Badassery that happened to your PC during those years, and also one (could be more) Moment of Embarassment or Humiliation. You've had lots of ups and downs; what were the best and the worst, and how have they affected your character going forward?
I already have some of these:
Judge (humiliation): Sister Serafina hijacked the final ritual for your transformation. She rendered you helpless, drank your blood, and very nearly killed you. You survived, but permanently damaged -- and she escaped, to become a rival master vampire. (She's still out there. Did I mention that she serves the Mother of Monsters?)
Jax (humiliation): You let yourself be sweet-talked by Sister Serafina into switching sides at the Horn. Hey, you owed her your life... to this day you're not sure if she was using some mind-altering magic, or was just incredibly persuasive. (And Brink liked her. Brink /loved/ her.) In the end, you switched back again, but the rest of the party seriously considered killing you and it's still a bit of an awkward episode.
Ulp (badass): You got that halfling, finally. You got him good.
