Blade of Dark Triumph
Niiiice.
Okay, we have Blue Dress, Dren, Judge, Drax and Zoren, White Dresses, Ulp, Edmin. I'll allow Dren and Edmin's actions to have gone in Round 0, so you can act.
Blue Dress stops singing and shrieks, "Thieves! Thieves! Find them, sisters!" Then she throws back her head and screeeeeeeeeems, a horrible rising wail that just goes on and on.
Douglas Muir 406 |
Whee! Okay, 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (18) + 28 = 461d20 + 28 ⇒ (19) + 28 = 47 I think that's two hits even with Ulp's invisibility up.
Ulp, I think your armor absorbs the first 10 points of negative energy damage? Okay then, you'll take 28d6 - 20 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 4, 6, 3, 4, 1, 4, 1, 4, 3, 6, 1, 1, 1, 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 3, 5, 5) - 20 = 89 points of damage.
Also: I believe you're still under the effects of Hero's Feast? Okay, their touch can dispel that. Dispel checks: 1d20 ⇒ 171d20 ⇒ 16
Douglas Muir 406 |
Okay, so the first touch dispels the effects of Hero's Feast. Adjust your charsheet accordingly, please.
If you have any other spell or buff that would protect you against fear, that's going to get dispelled too. If you do NOT have a second buff running that would protect against fear, then make a DC 23 Will save.
Dren? Judge?
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
Did you get the miss chance correct? I always thought that we always used <50 was a miss.
------
The Judge will move over and slash at the blue sister with his kukri.
I told you to not attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
I can do this all day ladies.
Ulp |
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 will in case judge is wrong also how do they know what square I am in? They didn't know before when they were flailing around? The only thing they possibly could have heard were tools on the coffin and that means there are 4 to 9 squares I could have been in.
another edit: my will save is accurate without heroes feast. I forgot to add in my heroism.
Edmin Al'Roth |
Charge!
Power attack: 1d20 + 25 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 25 + 2 = 46 Possibly a crit!
Confirm: 1d20 + 25 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 25 + 2 = 43
Damage: 1d12 + 32 ⇒ (11) + 32 = 43
Crit Damage :2d12 + 64 ⇒ (9, 2) + 64 = 75
Jax Naismith |
Round 1 or Round 2
Assuming the enemies are within line of sight or able to be in line of sight with a 5' step, the tiefling bares his teeth and squeezes a hand around his black-steel blade. The muscles in his body tense and a single word in draconic slips between his lips. Instantaneously, he transforms into a bolt of lightning and leaps forward. The air sizzles around him as he sears forward, crackling through the nearest white-dressed woman and dealing 5d8 ⇒ (7, 7, 1, 8, 2) = 25 electricity damage. DC 18 reflex for half. As Jax reappears, he lets out a cackle and lashes out with his sword. The first attack bristles with arcane energy his blade lashing with leftover lightning from his flight.
Swift action Mage Strike -1 Mythic Power, expending Black Tentacle (Level 4) for a +4 to hit and +8d6 electricity damage)
1d20 + 26 ⇒ (12) + 26 = 38 for 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22 damage and 8d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 3, 6, 6, 6, 5) = 35 electricity damage.
If flanking (Jax tries to move so he can flank with Edmin) he deals another 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) = 14 sneak attack damage.
Not content with that, the tiefling laughs and lashes out again and again.
Spell-combat for full attack
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (16) + 22 = 38 for 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22 damage, 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 1) = 12 sneak attack.
Possible Crit: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29 for an extra 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23
1d20 + 17 ⇒ (1) + 17 = 18 for 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (4) + 21 = 25 damage, 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4) = 12 sneak attack.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18 for 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22 damage, 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) = 9 sneak attack.
If the targets are not easily in line of sight, Jax casts Intensified Empowered Shocking Grasp and holds the charge, then moves to where he can see the enemy and does the above but adds in the shocking grasp attack
1d20 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29 for 1d6 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23, 3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1) = 9 sneak attack and 15d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4, 6, 3, 1, 3, 1, 1, 4, 6, 1, 6, 5, 4) = 54 electricity damage.
Black Tentacles, Intensified Empowered Shocking Grasp, Storm Step
Douglas Muir 406 |
1d20+13 will in case judge is wrong also how do they know what square I am in? They didn't know before when they were flailing around?
They were flailing in random squares around the noise. I ruled a bit arbitrarily that each had a 10% chance of picking the right square and hitting you. Doing the math, there were 6 squares you could be in (you're next to a wall) and they each have a 50% miss chance, so a random flail in each square would give about 1 chance in 12. If we're being picky, that's 8.3% rather than 10%. But they didn't hit you anyway, so there you go.
Ulp |
Ulp moves out of the way across the room, once he gets there he launches a bomb of electricity.
1d20 + 22 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 22 + 1 + 2 = 33 vs FF/Touch for 8d6 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1, 6, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1) + 7 + 1 = 24 DC 24 for half on splash only. Direct hit Dazzled. those splashed take 16 or 8.
also i had not done the math, now i feel silly lol
Jax Naismith |
Round 1
Jax said he would cast Intensified Empowered Shocking Grasp if he couldn't reach them in one round :P. He'll cast that and move, holding the charge. Also, he has on overland flight so them flying isn't a problem. Even if he wasn't, Storm Step would let him move to where they were flying, full attack and release the shocking grasp, and then fall :D
Zoren Cladius |
Round 1
Zoren is a bit hesitant to engage and will cast vanish on himself before following Jax into the room.
Round 2
Zoren moves into the room and will unleash a scorching ray from his wand, breaking his invisibility.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 v Touch AC for 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 5) = 21 fire damage and 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 1) = 18 sneak attack damage. He goes after Jax, targeting the one Jax goes after if it doesn't die. Otherwise, he attacks the one Edmin strikes.
Douglas Muir 406 |
Round 1 or Round 2
Assuming the enemies are within line of sight or able to be in line of sight with a 5' step, the tiefling bares his teeth and squeezes a hand around his black-steel blade.
So I'm assuming both Edmin and Jax are getting within LOS and easy charging distance this round -- if otherwise, let me know.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
The Judge just continues to shake his head sadly:
You find elvish dames. We could have had so much fun. It is sad that your end is going to end this way.
Despite the action around him, he does not seem in the least bit phased.
Douglas Muir 406 |
*The* problem is that as of the beginning of Round Two, Blue Dress has completed her action. Her unearthly scream rises and rises to an awful wail of death that resonates inside all your heads.
The Judge is of course immune. Everyone else who passed within 40' of her at any point in Round One -- which is to say, Ulp, Jax and Edmin -- must now make a Fortitude save.
Ulp |
1d20 + 19 ⇒ (11) + 19 = 30
Douglas Muir 406 |
Okay, you all made your saves. Great! Unfortunately, this effect is suck-or-suck. So, all three of you are Sickened -- –2 penalty on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. (Mind, you're still very glad to have made those saves.)
Edmin 1d6 ⇒ 5
Jax1d6 ⇒ 3
Ulp1d6 ⇒ 6
Douglas Muir 406 |
Ulp, you didn't say who you were attacking, so 1d3 ⇒ 3 it's White Dress #2. Being intangible, she takes half damage, or 12 points. The other two 1d20 ⇒ 11d20 ⇒ 7 take 8 (Blue Dress) and 4 (White Dress #1).
Round Two
Damage
Blue 21
White #1 17
White #2 38
Blue Dress, Dren, Judge, Jax, Drax and Zoren, White Dresses, Ulp, Edmin. I believe Zoren already said he'll cast scorching ray. Jax and Edmin have already stated their Round 2 actions as well -- they will both charge and make melee attacks, keeping the rolls they've already made, modified by -2 on attacks and damage.
Blue Dress's action this round is to shriek in rage, move 5', and then cast. She disappears from view.
Dren can act now, and the Judge.
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Dren has True Seeing going, can I still see her of did she transport away?
Spellcraft 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13 Don't know what she cast but if it is some kind of invisibility I should be able to see her.
Judge Tohram Quasangi |
The Judge just shakes his head once more.
Foolish girls. It is really not that hard to see that which wishes to be unseen.
With that, a thin piece of paper appears in his hand. He speaks some arcane words, and then just as suddenly he puts the piece of parchment away.
Use Quickdraw(Mythic) to draw a Page of Spell Knowledge (See Invisibility).
Cast See Invisibility - should last several hours (10min/level)
Douglas Muir 406 |
One of the challenges of running high level play is that monsters won't always realize they're up against high level characters. So, in all fairness, I have to occasionally make them waste an action doing something like turning invisible, even though you guys are now powerful enough that invisible opponents are barely a speed bump.
Yes, you can see her. She's drifting invisibly along towards Sir Edmin -- she can't detect Ulp, and realizes the Judge isn't vulnerable. So she's going after the big armored target first, since he should be most vulnerable to her touch attacks.
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Dren begins to move towards the combat, surrounded by the field of impenetrable darkness. 20' move forward, 5' off the ground.
He then summons the powers of the beings from beyond the stars to destroy the creatures mind.
Feeblemind.
DC 27 Willpower save.
Since they can cast Arcane spells they get a -4 to their save effectively making the saving throw a DC 31.
"Target creature's Intelligence and Charisma scores each drop to 1. The affected creature is unable to use Intelligence- or Charisma-based skills, cast spells, understand language, or communicate coherently. Still, it knows who its friends are and can follow them and even protect them. The subject remains in this state until a heal, limited wish, miracle, or wish spell is used to cancel the effect of the feeblemind.
A creature that can cast arcane spells, such as a sorcerer or a wizard, takes a –4 penalty on its saving throw."
Dren of the Dark Tapestry |
Now that Dren can see them do I know that these are undead that are immune to mind effecting affects? Just realized most undead are and that spell would most likely be useless.
Knowledge Religion 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20 only a CR10 creature so I might cast it anyways...
Douglas Muir 406 |

Feeblemind.
Knowledge [Religion] check for Dren: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
In the heat of battle, it has slipped Dren's mind that these creatures are undead, and thus unlikely to be affected by this sort of magic. The psychic blast from beyond the stars is designed to destroy living minds, not the complex net of negative-energy reflexes that passes for a "mind" in these malevolent spirits.
No effect.
Douglas Muir 406 |
Jax and Zoren get to act, and then the White Dresses. Both already announced their actions in Round 1, and we're keeping those, so let's see here.
Jax doesn't get to flank, so no sneak attack damage. However, he does get the following:
-- 25 electricity damage, reflex save for half. 1d20 ⇒ 16 Save is made, damage is halved and then halved again for insubstantial = 6 damage.
-- swift action Mage Strike = 38-2 for sickened /2 for insubstantial = 18 + 35/2 electricity = 35 damage
(more anon)
Douglas Muir 406 |
So, 41 damage so far. Now we add the following:
With adjustments for being sickened (-2 damage) and insubstantiality (half), we get
-- first attack (critical) 59/2 = 29
-- second two attacks miss
-- shocking grasp 21/2 + 54/2 = 37
Total damage is 107 (and, damn, high level magi get complicated). Who takes it? 1d2 ⇒ 1 White Dress #1, who had only taken 17 damage so far. 124 damage total? She's fine. Annoyed, mind you.
But wait: Zoren strikes!
