Throwing the cloth: 1d20 ⇒ 5

The cloth flutters to the ground as the floating blade dodges it effortlessly.

The two blades move forward to the attack.


Over on the Pile of Stuff, there's a sudden clattering. A humped shape begins to rise slowly from the pile.

It's hard to see exactly what it's made of, because part of it is covered in bloody sheets. But it looks like a vaguely humanoid shape made of... stuff. The body is an ottoman, the head is something -- a stool? -- covered in a sheet, the limbs are broomsticks and scraps of wood.

With a faint whoosh a heavy cleaver flies through the air and somehow attaches itself to the end of one arm.

Mrakala, I think some Knowledge rolls please. DMDM he did say you can Bot him while he was in NJ (sorry to hear that you're in NJ), would you please roll Know rolls if appropriate.

Knowledge(Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
EDIT: Mrakala will use his prescience roll instead and get a total of 20 for Knowledge(Planes[or whatever is appropriate])
EDIT2: If the creature appears on the Elder Mythos list in his character sheet OR the DM approves, he also gets a further +2 to the check to identify it.

The wizard pauses and briefly consults his mental notebooks for any mention of such creatures, mainly to determine what weaknesses, if any, they may have.

What Mrakala knows:
The Shichiriron, the Fleshless: creatures of the Dreaming, the larval form of the horrors known as animate dreams. They hunger for form and reality. In dreams, they're parasites and pests. If released into the waking world somehow, they possess and animate inorganic objects. Given time, they will gradually trade up. This may involve building or possessing larger and more powerful bodies, or it may involve greater subtlety, such as possessing personal items or clothing. Destroying their host body disrupts them for a time but may not kill them.

The scholar remembers a piece of lore, although he can not recall where he read it. Perhaps during the ten year gap in his memories? Can he s till, somehow, remember what he read in that time? Amazing.

"They are Fleshless, beasts of the Dreaming! We must destroy them here, they are larval and will only grow stronger the more time they spend here. They possess inorganic objects. Destroying their host disrupts them for a time but may not finish them off."

DMDM I believe this the round Vitæ can act. If so, the Mesmerist will crawl (move action) to help free (aid other) the conscious Fritz, while maintaining eye contact with the flying improvised weapons (Painful Stare), not sure if the later will help here but worth a try.

Worth a try. It works on a wide range of creatures, though not all.

Probably Not Fritz suddenly scuttles on all fours like a huge lizard, around behind Stuff Thing and deeper into the furnace room. The only one who could maybe get an AoO is the ranger, but he would need to roll a Will save at -2 to do it.

Question: After taking a 5 foot step away from one of the Things, would the Oracle not get an AOO when it came to attack her? Or do these things have reach? Apologies, a little rusty on melee.

Can our weapons harm them at all? Nameless shouts to Mrakala, taking her attention from the Sharp Thing for a split second. As the shears slice across her thigh, she cries out and turns at the last moment to avoid being hamstrung. 3 HP removed in status spoiler.

"You know, you should stick it with the pointy end."

Teeth clinched in pain, Nameless hobbles backwards from the attacking phantasm. Shut up, you. Why don't you get out here to show me, then? She clumsily thrusts the spear towards the center of mass for the floating blades.

"Terribly sorry, but that wouldn't be nearly as entertaining! Watch your left ..."

Action: Counter attack Sharp Things, 5 foot step towards wounded party members.

Yordan stares in horror at the Thing approaching him; a small scream escapes his lips as it strikes, leaving him reeling and staggered. Apparently he was too busy watching the shears to worry about the other stuff.

I assume it has reach so approaching doesn't trigger an attack of opportunity from my glaive.

At last! The evil doctor is in my reach!

Yordan swings his glaive with all his might.

Attack with glaive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 damage. If Probably-Not-Fritz were human, I'd get a +2 favored enemy bonus to both those rolls, but, you know, I sorta doubt he is.

How did that thing get conscious so fast?

DMDM, sorry trying to grasp how we are all situated in relation to each other, could you please help?

Vitæ will most likely be useless against these new arrivals, he would probably be better off aiding Mrakala in pursuit.

Unless someone has a spare weapon handy?

A 5' step doesn't prevent an opponent from stepping, moving or charging closer on its own initiative.

Hey: that had Hardness 1 and just 4 hp. The Mesmerist's Painful stare added one point of damage, so...it shatters. One shear down!

It's not attacking you, but rather moving past you. So that was your AoO.

Ouch.


Ghelik and Kyleen: if you had Stuff 2 or higher, you should have already retrieved your stuff from the pile. If not, then you can grab an improvised weapon from the pile as a move action.

Ghelik, you get a pointy stick. (Okay, a broken chair leg.) You have the no-proficiency problem, but it'll do d4 of damage.

Kyleen, you found something that works as an impromptu club. Still no proficiency, but you can swing it for d6 of damage.

You're a bit separated from everyone -- you sat down in the tile corridor, outside the cells. So 20 to 30 feet from the action. You used your Painful Stare on the shears this round, which helped a bit; remember, that's a free action, so you can do other stuff this round.

Awwww, yeah. Hopefully that DM hot-rolling streak is over ... When you say 'one shear' does that mean the last one is still floating around, or are you suggesting that Sharp Things is down, leaving only Stuff Thing to take out?

The other one is still floating around. Sharp Things is one entity animating two objects.
