I got a bit weirded out when I saw an update on DMCuc's Skull and Shackles Recruitment page! Didn't realize for a second you were starting a second game DM :D
I am learning a lot from this game, and love this AP and want to be able to tweak some stuff in the beginning that either I missed or didn't do as good, plus I have all the maps and stuff already lol.
Maybe, not sure how useful a rogue is to the group now that I know more about the investigator lol. It seems that Paizo does not like the rogue class very much.
I looked at the archaeologist as it fits thematically but I do not like giving up the performance ability as that is a huge support class feature that comes in handy.
You have to know how to play a rogue and work with another character. If you do rogues can do crazy damage in combat, so much so it's unfair.
Plus rogues are great for roleplay and if you like action, they tend to lead the way in initiative. I'm currently playing a twin handaxe wielding dwarf rogue on the boards, who flanks most of the time, and dishes out some significant damage.
If you really want a max out a rogue don't dump Charisma pump up the bluff skill, get him/her on the improved feint track then he is sneak attacking nearly every round.
I think I am going to stick with the rogue, and go down the feint track and do something that is out of my comfort zone. I am use to being either the meat shield or wizard when I play, and with the investigator I wasn't sure a rogue really fit into the party as well since Balthe's character can cover a lot of the rogue's stuff. But I think I am just going to give it a try. Unles there is a niche that you guys are seeing really needing to be covered then I am adjust, I don't mind playing a wizard or sorcerer if needed.
If the party is magic light, maybe a sorcerer to arcane trickster might be interesting. I will play around with either a sorcerer or wizard, as they can be really fun. I have more experience with a sorcerer so maybe a wizard. Probably wizard, because when I am a sorcerer I love being a gnome for some odd reason lol.
could you help me out a little, I have never made an arcane trickster. I was thinking that when he returns to the group, I give me a level in sorcerer and use that to help explain his absence. Then level sorcerer until I get access to level 2 spells then go back and level up rogue until I qualify for arcane trickster. Is that viable or am I going to be missing something that is major for that prestige class.
I will let Mes weigh in on our discussion and see his opinion about shifting Sumak towards arcane trickster, if he doesn't like the idea, I will stick with either rogue, or if he allows go bard to help with the arcane aspect without too much of a change of the character.
We are a little magic light. Whichever makes you happier. Maybe make Sumak a shadow school wizard or something like that to keep the rogue feel.
Shadow wizards are badarse...what a spell boon your shadow gives. I'm playing one at a table top shackles game. He carries an umbrella which as been loads of fun to rp.
baldwin are you okay if I spec towards an arcane trickster? The class sounds pretty fun, but I am okay with being a straight caster to help the group out more.

Well I don't know if you have to go that far, but it's up to you how you want to story-in your new class (as long as it's not something ridiculous, like Nethys has chosen you to take his banner forward into the world as his Arcane prophet or things of that nature.)
