"I know that will be difficult. Wendy can be–– infuriating at times, but I think his heart's in the right place."

Peace restored, the women return to human form and graciously, if somewhat hungrily, accept the food Cassandra offers about. Her mouth full, Eries speaks up again, "Whenever you are ready to see Girrigz, I can take you to his territory. They have broken some tunnels out from one of the sewer branches. They do defend it, so be prepared for trouble."

Amira nods in response to Tolennn's glance, striding back over to Cassandra and the women. "Sorry about that. We'll be ready for resistance. I only hope we can get through to them without having to do too much damage."

"And people wonder why I prefer you over guys." she says with a small chuckle.

Amira gets a slightly silly grin, quite at odds with her usual demeanure for a moment.

"Yeah. Maybe the temple of Shelynn?" Amira agrees giving Terri a questioning look.

"With Victor's absence, I and the others feel taking Landis on would greatly improve our chances going forward. He's revealed all to us and I've made it clear that any continued evasiveness would be frowned upon. He's made a pledge to try to avoid antagonizing you , but I'd want the same from you, Wendy. "

She pauses, guaging his reaction , "Consider this. He came to us of his own free will, to help. Yes, he has his own reasons, but so do we all. There's not many people in Korvosa, who one, would help us and two ,actually seek us out to do so. "

She finishes, watching Wednesday's face....

At her first stop Wednesday just rolls his shoulders and lets out a "Fine..."

"That just makes him even more suspicious." he finally says while starting to turn his head slightly. As much as he liked being around Tolenn and talking to her he was finding harder and harder to look the women straight in the eyes.

A wry smile twiches the corner of Tolenn's mouth, "Be suscpious all you want, I wouldn't ask you to be otherwise. Just work with the man, and keep the peace. "

She notices him avoiding her gaze and gently cups his chin and raises his face to hers, "Wendy, we....I need you. This journey we're on will be difficult enough...but we've been together in this from the beginning. I would have to there to the end. A selfish thought, I know, but an honest one."

Wednesday's hairs start to stand on end when she touches him, but he doesn't shy away. "Then for as long as you want, I'll stay by your side."


Two women with the children ultimately prove amenable to going to the temple, though a little concerned at first. Eries encourages them on and, in short order, they are squared away. Either by taking them there or simply sending along a short missive requesting they be given shelter - either works to get us to the action.

Eries then starts to lead the way into the sewers and to the place where Girrigz holds sway with his people. The air is not pleasant for much of the trek - it is thick with the foul stench of sewage and rot and the central channel of filth constantly offers reminders of the dirty challenges of city life.
After what seems like an eternity given the conditions, Eries leads the heroes to a cleft in the masonry wall. Behind it is a deep crack in the rock large enough for a human to pass through and into a rough tunnel. Just up at the corner ahead a grate can be seen across the sewer channel.

I have added a map link at the top of the page. It's not terribly big but I think I've got it correctly set to allow edits for anyone using the link.

Before entering the crack, Terri casts a spell of blessing on the party.

Casting Bless: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and on saving throws against fear effects for the next 7 minutes.


Landis never thought the stench could grow worse than this, he was wrong. Never in his life did he think he'd miss the smell of the docks; with its molding old wood, rotten fish and the occasional smell of a dead body...either found in the water or in an alley. This plague upon his nose trounced all of this stenches combined. After this was over he would probably end up buying far more perfumes and burning essence just so he could forget this odor.

Along with the sound of their foot steps was that of rat squeaks; the sound came from a different crack and wall every time, it almost felt like some of the rodents here had taken interest in them and started shadowing their trek further into the sewers. The former outlaw even remember catching the sight or one or two before they hid away in the many shadows this place housed.

What's the light level GM? If it is dim light Landis will pull out one of his darts and cast Light on it, if none of the party members object of course.

Tolenn bows her head at Terri's benediction, then hold her hand up for Terri to pause, then moves ahead of her friend into the gap.

She keeps her scimitar sheathed, but her shield remains on her other arm.

Her eyes peer into the dim light ahead, the light from Landis' dart casting her shadow ahead of her...

She calls out, "Girrigz! Girrigz! We seek parley. We do not want to fight."

Terri follows, leaving the glaive leaning against the wall.

"We are priestess of Sarenrae and Shelyn. As my friend says, we do not wish to fight, only to help," she says, hoping to bolster Tolenn's words.

"We are only here to have a little talk. There is really no need to be wary" Landis turned his head from left to right. The dart he enchanted was held high; painting shadows of all that stood in its greenish light.

With a sidelong glance at Cassandra, Amira hangs back to let the group's diplomats do their work, quietly slipping her starknife off the hook on her belt.

The gap opens into a wider chamber, a rough cave that is dark save for the light shed by Landis's dart and a dim, flickering light spilling from an opening directly ahead along the flow of sewage (and marked by the yellow star on the map).

Also from that direction, a masculine voice can be heard in the distance. It's too distant and disrupted by echoes from the rock walls to make out any detail, but it does seem to be quite emphatic.

Nobody seems to take note of Tolenn's, Terri's, or Landis's salutations. Landis can make out some other sounds - rustlings and squeaks - that indicate there are definitely rats about - and maybe some big ones at that.


"Aside from the rats around us...big ones judging by commotion they are making and the echoes from ahead, I don't see or hear anything" Landis' voice was barely different in volume from a whisper

Terri calls out again, stepping ahead of the others, her arms wide to show she is unarmed.

"Please, we do not wish you harm. We want to end the bloodshed and work together with you to make sure that all of you are safe."

Tolenn quickly rushes forward to accompany Terri, keeping the priest on her left hand side, so that her shield might protect her friend.

"Don't do that, Terri." she whispers to the rash cleric.

I moved Terri and Tolenn on the map.

Amira shakes her head, sighing silently. She'd come to love them both like sisters, but Terri and Tolenn's propensity for making themselves targets was more than a little annoying at times.

She wrinkles her nose, looking around.

"Anyone stop to consider the big rats we are hearing ARE who we are looking for?"

"Getting bored." Cassandra mutters. She steps forward, cups her hands over her mouth, and shouts.

"HEY! ANYONE HERE WANT TO STICK IT TO THE MAN? WE RUINED THE QUEEN'S PLANS ONCE AND WE WANT TO HELP DO IT AGAIN!"

She repeats this in half a dozen different languages.

Including draconic.

Smartest member of the party by pure stats, folks...

Amira closes her eyes, caught between the urge to laugh and bury her face in her palm. Settling for something that comes out sounding like a snort. Eyes staring out past Terri and Tolenn, she speaks in a low tone. "And this is the part of the day when we get swarmed.

Whether it's the movement of Tolenn and Terri or Cassandra's shout, the reaction is swift. A colony of fungus embedded along the southern wall of the chamber starts to produce an intense screeching noise. It seems to drown out all other noises (particularly for Tolenn and Terri, who are closest to it).

In response to the shrieking, Wednesday, Amira, and Landis note some sloshing sounds around the bend of the sewer, near the grate (as appears on the map). Within the chamber, the ratty scrabbling increases in intensity as large rats start to emerge from hidden holes and cracks in the cavern walls.

"$#!+. They had an alarm! Incoming!" Amira tries to shout over the shrieking as she moves forward, chanting a spell in an ancient language as she points at first Tolenn, then Terri, herself and their newest member, the ability to understand the mindset of lesser creatures settling on their minds.

Cast Control Vermin on self and 3 most charismatic of the group.For next 4 hours can use Handle Animal and Ride checks to influence or control the targeted vermin as if they were animals and had animal-level intelligence. Each limitad to 4 HD of vermin control

I know. That's why I picked the highest Charisma people. While the skill says Trained only the spell says for the specified time the designated people can use those skill checks.

A masculine voice calls out from the chamber ahead, shouting to be heard over the din of the shriekers. "Girrigz speaks for himself." A fairly powerfully-built rat man steps into view. He continues, "See this, my brothers and sisters? They even invade our home. It's not enough they hunt us in the streets with the silver that burns. That they set traps for our cousins to slay them by the dozen. Now they come here to destroy us all."

Eries presses herself up against the wall so that she can't be seen by Girrigz or his fellows. It appears her courage only goes so far in this situation...

Five of the rats about the chamber grow and transform into Girrigz's wererat comrades.
