Victor Rivilon |
This takes place after Terri comes down the stairs, so over an hour later.
The door swung open and Victor stepped outside, the smell of Korvosa in the morning not so different from it's smell at night. He stood against the wall of Zellara's home and watched the people of his city go about their daily routines; some shouting to attract the attention of their customers to their shops, others carrying pieces of merchandise on foot while trying to avoid the wagons being pulled by beasts of burden. Among all this storm of activity the shadow mage noticed the urchin he had "pushed around" the last time with two guards walking towards his position. He motioned with his finger for the boy to leave the area, hoping that he wouldn't catch the attention of guards who could be similar to the ones he had to deal with as a child.
Amira Oenestria |
"So, are we going for the direct approach? Hit hard and don't lay off until we're inside and find the answers we're looking for? Or something a touch more subtle?" Amira asks the others.
Wednesday Daud |
"Knock, then knock harder. Worked so far." Daud wistfully says.
Tolenn |
Tightening a loose strap on her armor, Tolenn nods at both Amira and Wednesday's comment, "A quick entry is preferable, before they realize our intent."
Turning to Victor's return from outside, "I don't think so, Victor. Let us go, then."
DM Crispy |
The group makes their way through the streets of Korvosa, having decided upon a quick entry as their preferred method of infiltrating the Hospice of the Blessed Maiden. On a nearby street corner, they see a man, his skin splotchy with the advanced stages of Blood Veil, crying out that this is Korvosa's punishment for having such a ruler, that this plague is divine retribution for Korvosa's acceptance of such a ruler. The man seems to cough after every sentence, the sound quite wet and rattled.
Soon enough, the companions make it to the small entry door to the converted warehouse, stepping quickly inside. The stinging scent of alcohol and medicine floods this dingy reception room, an odor typical to hospices, morgues, and battlefields. Across from the entrance sits a long wooden desk, beyond which a stained leather curtain covers an open archway, muffling moans from beyond. Six people in various stages of Blood Veil sit along the wall of this reception room, all looking miserable as they wait.
Behind the desk sits a rather large woman, her musculature evident even through the thick layers of clothing, triple scarves over her mouth and nose, and heavy leather gloves. As the group enters, her eyes flit to them lazily, and she calls out in a bored voice. "If you wish to be seen, please sign in and have a seat."
Victor Rivilon |
"Not here to be seen, someone from the Arkonas house hired us" Victor stood straighter than usual, his hands in his pockets, the look in his eyes showing surprising amount of disinterest "We're to look for some important papers they didn't mean to leave in the warehouse" He continued as he feigned looking around the place but really he wasn't looking at anything in particular.

The warehouse’s vast interior has been converted into one gigantic convalescent’s ward, the stench of alcohol, sickness, and waste choking each breath. Tight rows of low, stained cots cram the stone-floored hall. Every bed is filled with a pitiful story—men and women of all walks groaning and wheezing as they’re consumed by blood veil, their sufferings multiplied by the echoing chamber.
As you all enter, you see a series of catwalks lining the perimeter of the room. Patrolling the catwalks are two Grey Maidens, grim in their heavy grey armor. Two more patrol the floor, one rather close to you. Four of the Queen's Physicians, their bird-faced masks on, attend to the patients. The closest Grey Maiden starts stepping your way, calling out in a loud voice, "You do not belong here. Leave this area immediately!"
The light level here would be classified as dim. There might be patches of lighter and darker, but we'll just make it simple for all involved. That means 20% concealment miss chance for everything if you don't have special vision.
Tolenn |
Tolenn's eyes narrow at the massive scene of suffering, watched over by the physicians and Grey Maidens. Knowing that the disease itself was tainted with evil, she nonetheless opens her heart and eyes to what evil lays before her....
Detect Evil
Victor Rivilon |
An atmosphere of despair and pain surrounded them, but Victor did his best to not pay it attention, lest the Grey Maidens and Physicians grow suspicious; he was here to play the heartless mercenary, and play it he would, as this was the only way he could see to save them.
The closest Grey Maiden starts stepping your way, calling out in a loud voice, "You do not belong here. Leave this area immediately!"
Hazel eyes turned towards the woman clad in armor, their gaze emanating nothing save for annoyance and apathy "Arkonas say otherwise" He retorted, as he paced about the area they were standing in "Looks like ya moved somethings around here" The sorcerer's gloved hand ran through his messy hair "Guess we'll have to see Davaulus to find the papers that were left here, where is he?"

All Daud could do was roll his eyes as the armor clad maiden approached and Victor began his spiel in order to deter her. Though the thought of if Tolenn wanted some better armor did cross his mind.

The group can not guess at the Grey Maiden's face behind the mask, but she is obviously not deterred by Victor's rather convincing lie. She draws steel, yelling out. "GET OUT NOW!"
The other Grey Maiden starts to head your way, the Maidens on the Catwalk training bows. The Physicians all stop what they are doing, turning their avian heads in your direction.
Terri Riverrun |
Terri steps forward, her eyes hard and cold.
"So, do you think it's better to murder hundreds than to do the right thing," she asks in a voice dripping contempt. She hands her glaive to Wednesday before walking over to the nearest patient and gripping their shoulder while her other hand holds the holy symbol of Shelyn.
"May you continue to live so that you may dance and sing in joy," she chants as gold and silver light flares around her.

Victor Rivilon |
When steel sang as it left sheaths, Victor knew that few words could stop their upcoming bloody symphony. He looked about, his mind taking into consideration the place they were about to spill blood in, and what enemies they could see...his eyes went past a few lit candles and then his companions. Victor knew what his first role in this play of swords, sorcery and misery would be.
He whipped his right arm in a horizontal arc in front of him and then began moving forward.
A shadow rose from Amira's own, it's stature like that of a living man, but it's face was like an empty canvas; devoid of eyes, mouth and nose. It's hand reached out like a python and attached itself to her face. In a moment the shadow diminished as if it was a paper being shred to many pieces at the sametime. Leaving nothing but a palm print that blinked in and out of existence with no clear rhythm or timing.
Victor made his way to Tolenn's side, his eyes fixated on a particularly dark area that was a few feet from her. Without further explanation he dived into it and tried to remain out of sight.

Wednesday Daud |
Holding the glaive out for Terri to take back if she wished Daud held his other hand out towards Amira. Or rather, he felt like he should. All the pain and misery of those around him, no, the building itself, started to waft and exert itself about him so he tried to focus it as he felt it. He thinks.
He had absolutely no idea what he was doing truthfully. He just knew it felt different than when making his blood bright or blow up. Regardless of whether he was sure he was the one casting or if Amira's city was orchestrating things he wove the city's hate about her starknife, so that it could finally lash out at the ones causing the suffering.

The sinuous words of the arcane slip through Victor's lips, and Tolenn gains the benefits of the spell that Amira was just granted, her vision improving through the grace of the shadow that just blessed her.
Tolenn attempts to use that blessing to her advantage, clearly seeing the armored woman in front of her. The holy warrior's first strike is on target, but doesn't take into account the fine plated armor the Maiden is wearing, the scimitar screeching against the fine steel. The second strike is intercepted by the Maiden's shield.
Meanwhile, using her newly-bolstered starknife, Amira sends it spinning towards the nearest archer. The blade goes up to the catwalk just as the Maiden is raising her bow to send another arrow down, the blade entering the seam at the armpit. The Grey Maiden hisses in pain, reaching to grab for the blade, only to find it wrenched from the wound, blood spraying out over the patients below as it spun back to Amira's grasp.
Upon hearing Terri's words, the Nurse calls out, "It isn't safe in here! All of you, come with me!" She heads towards the exits, gathering the few in the entry hall outside with her. A few of the folks inside sit up, and some even manage to stand, but most just continue lying there, too sick to move. The woman struck by the arrow stops twitching, lying too still upon her cot.
The Physicians have apparently seen enough, as they draw clubs and enter the melee.

Arrows fell, steel clashed against steel, and the ranks of the dead increased with each passing moment. Even those who were not part of either side of this fight fell victim to strikes intended for others, and it frustrated Victor to no end. The moment he had entered this area he had hoped they'd avoid fighting in a place where so many helpless people would be victims simply for being there. The sorcerer of the streets could feel a rage he had long since been acquainted with snake its way into his heart, he wanted to make them burn for what they did, and as that desire filled him, his shadow grew in size and began quivering unnaturally from time to time, part of it rising up and covering some of his leg.
His angry gaze turned from physician to Grey Maiden, his mind at first only wondering which he should bring down first, however it was then that he remembered what he knew already, they were surrounded, and in range of their archers. One of these things needed to be remedied. As Victor considered his options, his eyes wavered towards Amira as she caught the star knife she had thrown only moments ago She's handling the archers for now, let's see about keeping the ones flanking us busy An exhale left the mage as he began focusing on the arcane energy around him, his vision resting unintentionally on the woman with the arrow jutting out of her throat We'll get ya some revenge out of this, I know it isn't much but it's the best we can do His right that was at his side rose, only stopping when his open palm and slight clenched fingers were on par on height with his mouth. Victor's earlier unruly shadow reacted, it began climbing his body in a manner similar to that of a thick liquid, it halted it's movement once it covered the hand that beckoned it in a lightless veil, then came the turn of Victor's left hand, its fingers outstretched like his arm, pointing to where the body of the dead woman was, and with a flick of a wrist, a shadowy pit appeared around the woman and from it floated out a paler, thinner version of the woman, her eyes glazed and unfocused, her hands clutched around the arrow that grew out of her neck.
The copy of the woman looked around, her body turning fully from left to right, the blanket around her sickly frame swinging about with every movement. In an instant her foggy eyes turned malicious, and a mask of pure hatred decorated her countenance that was already marred with dried blood. Her mouth opening and closing in an attempt to speak, but no words could be heard, and with each unspoken word, she clenched her neck tighter.

Victor's anger seethes, his blood boiling at the wanton violence visited upon the innocents of this place, from both the slower-acting disease and the disregard for life as the Maidens and Physicians sought to eliminate the threat. He called upon his shadowy powers as he stepped back away from the Grey Maiden's blade, it seeming as though the woman on the cot rose as a vengeful spirit, intent on addressing her killers, it seemed, as she tried to keep her torn throat closed.
Amira again sends her blade spinning toward the woman on the catwalk, and again strikes true, leaving another wound in its wake before spinning back to her grasp. The archer is still surprisingly up as Amira dashes dexterously through the melee to set up her next shot.
Tolenn gracefully avoids the blows of the Grey Maiden, but the woman's heavy armor continues to foil her, the paladin having trouble finding the weaknesses in the plate's defenses as both strikes clang against steel.
