Gaius Tindareus |
I'm not sure it's wise to mention the cards, especially that one, with the Queen's ascension being challenged by some, Gaius whispers to Daud.
An apology would be nice, he then says so Malder can hear. And then, some answers. You're the only one with half a brain, so use it well and think hard. Where are the rest of your 'boys'? Is it just you three in this little side-job?
Wednesday Daud |
"Yaknow, I hadn't thought on it before but those do seem to be more than coincidental to the events that seem to be playing out now." Daud says this completely straight-faced.
DM Crispy |
Malder's face doesn't seem like it could grow any more frightened, but when Daud starts talking apparent gibberish to the man, his features screw up in terror. He certainly hadn't signed up for this!
He turns almost thankfully to Gaius, slurring a bit from the aftereffects of too many recent knocks on the head. "Yesss, yesss, my deepessst apologiesss, my lady. My lordsss. We are but victimsss of the timesss, forcssed to eak out our exissstencsse by performing these terrible actsss. Mercssy, I pray you."
It takes him a moment to remember that he had been prompted for more. "It'sss jussst usss three. And Karralo. Though he usually doesn't come with usss on these jobsss. Doesn't have the ssstomach for it, mossst timesss."
Pyron Firehide |
Pyron whispers into Daud's ear. Who is Karralo?
Wednesday Daud |
Daud shrugs back at Pyron with a genuine look of unaware on his face.
Tolenn |
As Malder sputters away and the others ask questions, Tolenn merely regards the man , her head cocked to one side slightly, her eyes focused intenly on his face, trying to determine just how dark his soul is.
Detect Evil
DM Crispy |
Tolenn can detect no evil off the man with her holy powers. Keep in mind, that if he is less than 5 HD, he will have no evil aura, even if he is evil. If I am interpreting that incorrectly, please let me know.
Malder loosens up a bit as it seems as though he will not be beaten or killed right away. "Karralo is at the butcher shop, yesss. When we don't come back, he will likely ssscamper off. Verik, too."
Tolenn |

You interpret that stuff anyway you wish, Crispy :)
So, besides you and your friends here, Karrolo and Verik, how many others are at the butcher's shop? What about Verik's lady friend?"
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius regards the man's words, trying to discern the truth in them.
sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
What time do the other two expect you to return?
Wednesday Daud |
"Also, where are you guys getting your meat from anyway? And what happened to the former owners of the butchery."
DM Crispy |
The man's words seem fearful, but true.
"No ssset time. Usually only takesss an hour or two. The Bossss has likely been drinking. He don't know nothing bout our little...ssside businessss."
"We get the meat deliveriesss in the morning from our benefactor. I don't know where it comes from."
Bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (10) - 1 = 9
You can tell there's more to it than that.
"I think they got put out of businessss for taxss evasion or sssomething. I dunno."
Wednesday Daud |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Ha! I'll take it! ^w^
"What do you say Upr... Inquisitor? For every lie we get a finger?"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Gaius Tindareus |
Sense motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Gaius shakes his head at Malder's words.
That was a mistake, trying to hide the truth like that. And to think, things were going so well.
He approaches the unconscious form of the large thug, chanting a spell briefly and placing his hand on the coward's forhead.. Within seconds, the word "rapist" appears there, as if branded with a hot iron.
Cast brand--it does 1 damage. I believe you get no save if you're unconscious
Best not lie to me again. Tell me everything you know about these shipments, or you get a brand of your own.

Ha! I'll take it! ^w^"What do you say Upr... Inquisitor? For every lie we get a finger?"
[dice=Intimidate]1d20+4
If it comes to that, take a thumb. Can't do much with the hand with no thumb.
Then, leaning in to Daud to speak more quietly: Fear is what motivates people. Fear, and the threat of physical harm. That's usually more effective than a physical punishment. Still, some people are stubborn.
Wednesday Daud |
"Though given their earlier statements it may be best for everyone around them if we remove That finger." he chats back to Gaius, more akin to two companions having an evening of tea rather than an interrogation.
DM Crispy |
The man who so briefly ago had been wielding a cow hammer groans as the brand is placed on his forehead, his eyes snapping open wide with the pain.
Malder is truly terrified at this point. "Aye, we be getting the meat like that, tis true. But we alssso sssupplement with the victimsss of our ssside venture."
The other man gasps at the admission, his muscles cording up as he starts trying to struggle out of his bonds.
Wednesday Daud |
"Called it."
Have a little priest...
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius' anger, held in check thus far, explodes forth, contorting his face in a terrifying visage of fury.
Cowards! You bring false hope to the desperate with promises of food, just to cover up your callous murder. Arrrggggh!
The devotee of vengeance smashes the waking thug between the eyes, bludgeoning him with the blackjack until he falls unconscious again. Then he leaps over to Malder and grabs his face with his free hand, holding the terrified man in a vise grip as he stares into his eyes menacingly.
What do you call this Verik when you are with him? 'Boss', 'friend', by his name. What? Lie again and I'll feed you your tongue. Tell me!
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius smashes Malder in the teeth with the sap no sooner than the words come out of his mouth. He gives all of the unconscious rogues a kick for good measure. Then, when satisfied that they'll all stay that way for a long while, he turns to Daud.
Let's leave Vuk on guard duty. If any of them escapes their bonds, he can tear out their throat. The rest of us should move now to get Verik, while he's drunk and unawares. We can't let him escape when he realizes these fools won't be returning. Take their weapons--I'll disguise myself as Malder so we can gain entrance, then we'll see what Verik knows.
Gaius' tone suggests he does not wish to entertain alternative plans, but he awaits a response anyway.
Wednesday Daud |
"Them. That. Needs. It? You are rapists, murderers, and cannibals that trick the innocent into partaking... And now you want mercy? So be it." Finally lifting himself off the now unconscious again thug he will kick the the babbling Malder in the face, followed by a series of stomps to the fiend's skull, the sick crunching and mushing beneath him punctuated by his shouting and ragged breathing. "Enjoy! Whatever! Mercy! The! Abyss! Affords! You!" Coming to a stop when he feels he might break the floor underneath the chunky red stain below his boot he lets his carthartic breathing finally get the better of him, hyperventilating before moving to the other room to furiously pace about.
Aww, you beat me to it while I was writing.
Vuk looks back and forth from Gaius and Daud before setting his stony wolf like gaze upon the thugs.
Picking up the Cowhamner Daud will turn to the others. "Well, let's go properly introduce ourselves shall we?"
Tolenn |
Though she'd had her suspicions, hearing confirmation from the brute that they'd been serving their murder victims to the unsuspecting Korvosians...the color had drained from Tolenn's face.
Nevertheless, when Gaius rendered the men unconsious again, Tolenn restrained herself, it was a small mercy that the Inquisitor had not attempted to gut them.
Adjusting her armor, she settles her steely gaze upon Daud, and says "Yes, lets"
Pyron Firehide |
This world has no room for them. When we are done, I am sure the queen will have many ways of inflicting pain on them.
Gaius Tindareus |
Agreed, killing them would be a mercy. Let's move and deal with them later.
If we can get within 50 yards of the butcher shop undetected, I'll cast Disguise Self to look like Malder.
Pyron Firehide |
That didn't need to be in ooc. That would have been fine in-game.
How about we try to get as close as we can, and then you can cast your spell to look like Malder, Gaius?
DM Crispy |
The four of you steal forth with your new-found information, slipping through the night like ghosts. Well, three of you do. The fourth clangs and clatters along like a pots and pans robot. Regardless, it's the deep of the night and no one comes to investigate as you close in on the butcher's shop.
You're within 50 yards.
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius waves a hand in front of his face, moving it away to reveal Malder's appearance. Catch them off guard, but don't kill them just yet--we need information, and I don't think Verik had any idea what Malder's crew was up to. I'll do the talking to get us in, then we strike fast. Let's go.
Gaius in disguise approaches the door.
Wednesday Daud |
Okay then, I will simply and harmlessly introduce this bludgeoning instrument to their very durable faces. It's entirely their fault if they should die from just a light tap to the face... Or the back of the head... Or the jewels. Entirely their's.
Wednesday Daud |
Yes, sorry I didn't specify that.
Pyron Firehide |
Pyron was not a part of the original group, so he'll hang back. How about those who went with Maulder go with Gaius. If Verik does know, then it would good to play that way just in case. If he asks why some men of each side are missing, which includes Gaius, then you can say it didn't go as planned. If he asks why you have others with you, then say you recruited them. If he believes you, then say you have one (or two) others across the street keeping an eye out, and then wave at us for us to come over to you. How does that sound, or do you have another plan?
Tolenn |
Tolenn hangs back with Pyron, nodding at his suggest course of actin.
Gaius Tindareus |
That will serve, we just need to gain entry before he flees. If he runs out the main entrance, bring him down. Gaius nods to Daud, then says a quick prayer to Calistria for guidance .
The half-elf strides hastily towards the front door as though something urgent is at hand. He raps thrice, quickly, and says it a frantic voice (a whisper-yell, if you will, hehe).
Verik, it's me. Open up, hurry!
Bluff to sound like Malder: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 = 29
Tolenn |
Watching from a nearby alley, Tolenn is amazed by Gaius' transformation, so alike Malder he has become. "He certainly has his goddesses favour." she comment to Pyron, in a low voice.
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius motions to Daud to stay back as he opens the door, peering inside.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Wednesday Daud |
Daud's eyebrows shift upward momentarily in a sign of agreement, rather than nodding.
Gaius Tindareus |
Gaius curses silently, unable to pick the lock without proper tools (I knew I forgot something! Note to self, buy thieve's tools tomorrow, hehe). He waves his hand in a circular motion and points to the side of the building, indicating to Daud to follow him. The half-elf searches around, quietly but impatiently, for other doors or windows that could gain entrance to the butcher shop.
DM Crispy |
On the South Side of the building (the entrance faces West), there is what appears to be two pens. The western pen is the larger of the two, has dirt floors, holds an entrance to the building, and holds two immense, hairy boars. The eastern pen is smaller and has cobbles for flooring, and has what appears to be an entry door to the building. There is a door to the pen itself, and two doors connect the eastern pen to the western.
The fence and door/gate themselves are about ten feet high, with no wire or anything across the top. It is clearly to keep the animals in.
Wednesday Daud |
"Need a boost?" he'll mumble to Gaius as they approach the wall.
Gaius Tindareus |
"Need a boost?" he'll mumble to Gaius as they approach the wall.
Gaius nods, and motions to Tolenn for her help as well. I think if you both aid I'll make it with a 15
Climb take 10: 10 + 3 - 2 = 11
Wednesday Daud |
Aid on Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Did I say "Aid"? I meant "Toss like a sack of potatoes".
Tolenn |
Tolenn motions Pyron to follow, and she runs across the street to join the others at the animal pen.
Reaching out she attempts to assist Gaius in his climbing efforts.
Aid Climb 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
