DM Cobalt's Unshackled City

Game Master Craig Mercer

Our heroes are based in Cauldron, the northernmost city in Varisia. There they try to survive missions for the city, intriques, and maybe even save the world... or maybe not.

Darian whips his polearm in a wicked back-and-forth arc across the top of the dog pen.

Then adjust to O6 so I can take AoOs when the goblins start moving up, and to clear Tara a charge lane if she wants it.

Tara moves up to Darian's side adn tries to pierce one of the mangy curs.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Darian manages to kill two of the goblin hounds, but one lucky hound remains alive, even dodging Taravel's attack.

GM:
1d20 ⇒ 10

The goblin hound shakes the makeshift fence keeping him back, but it holds despite its efforts. However it continues to howl, and the goblins blink the sleep from their eyes and move to investigate.

I'll have to post the map later, as I can not access it now.

The goblins g3, g4 and g7 are aware that something is killing the goblin dogs (since you did it in front of them).
They are aware, and moving to see what is attacking.

If that kills goblins 3 and 4, Terra should be able to move through to get at goblin 7.

Emyralda's second crossbow shot strikes true, dropping the goblin in his tracks.

Darian's attacks carve a path of destruction and eath, killing the goblin dog and two goblins.

Sorry, I missed there had been new posts somehow.

Tara follows Darian's lead and moves forth to use her spear to lunge at the goblin.

Attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Taravel kills the last goblin, and quiet reigns for a while.
But in the more distant huts, a few goblins continue to show themselves.
So far the ledge and cave entrance has proven quiet, but a little noise leaks out over the roar of the waterfall.

DC20 Perception Check:
You can hear at least 4 or more creatures saying things deeper in the shadowy cave (although what they are saying is mostly lost in the background noise). They seem to be preparing to charge out soon, from what little you can hear.

Tara moves beside the warrior, setting her longspear to guard against any surprise attacks.

As the noise from the cave gets a bit louder, goblins from the huts move up, readying their weapons. The bodies must have tipped them off that something is not quite right.

One goblin rounds the corner of the hut where Darian and Taravel are, and with a shout of goblin anger, attacks.
But first Darian has his held action, and both have AoOs.

"Oh, um, Kinda... I can conceal us, but it'll be pretty obvious we're hidden. This is an illusion so focus your mind and you'll be able to see through it." Terra waves her hand and a cloud of smokey fog starts to billow out of her hands...

Terra uses the spell to create a fog cloud in the area of the hill, obscuring us from view. Will DC 14

Terra can see though the fog, and Emryalda can if she makes the save. She gets a +4 bonus for this because Terra warned her. If Emryald's Message spell is up, she can give the others a +4 bonus to as well. Attacking from the cloud shouldn't invoke disbelief as shooting trough a solid would. Once the baddies make there save after interacting with it, they can see through it. They can then warn their friends to give them a +4 bonus like Emryalda. If I forget that this spell is sustained with concentration, please smack me! More info in spoilers below.

Silent Image:
School illusion (figment); Level bard 1, sorcerer/wizard 1
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, F (a bit of fleece)
Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Effect visual figment that cannot extend beyond four 10-ft. cubes + one 10-ft. cube/level (S)
Duration concentration
Saving Throw Will disbelief (if interacted with); Spell Resistance no
This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.

Illusions & Figments:
Illusion spells deceive the senses or minds of others. They cause people to see things that are not there, not see things that are there, hear phantom noises, or remember things that never happened.

Figment: A figment spell creates a false sensation. Those who perceive the figment perceive the same thing, not their own slightly different versions of the figment. It is not a personalized mental impression. Figments cannot make something seem to be something else. A figment that includes audible effects cannot duplicate intelligible speech unless the spell description specifically says it can. If intelligible speech is possible, it must be in a language you can speak. If you try to duplicate a language you cannot speak, the figment produces gibberish. Likewise, you cannot make a visual copy of something unless you know what it looks like (or copy another sense exactly unless you have experienced it).

Because figments and glamers are unreal, they cannot produce real effects the way that other types of illusions can. Figments and glamers cannot cause damage to objects or creatures, support weight, provide nutrition, or provide protection from the elements. Consequently, these spells are useful for confounding foes, but useless for attacking them directly.

A figment's AC is equal to 10 + its size modifier.

A successful saving throw against an illusion reveals it to be false, but a figment or phantasm remains as a translucent outline.

A failed saving throw indicates that a character fails to notice something is amiss. A character faced with proof that an illusion isn't real needs no saving throw. If any viewer successfully disbelieves an illusion and communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a saving throw with a +4 bonus.

"Got it," Emyralda replies to Terra's instructions, squinting her eyes until she finally pierces the illusion. "I'll tell the others."

Emyralda then informs her companions via her Message spell about the illusion masking Terra and herself.

Darian dispatches the goblin with little problem.
But another goblin springs around the corner to attack, with a second approaching from the other side.
More goblins drift in from farther down the valley.

The cave then bursts with activity, as several hobgoblins charge out; two mounted on worgs.
They seem to be a bit confounded by the fog on the hill, and only two hobgoblins on foot move into it, drawing their swords.
The others turn towards Darian and Taravel, preparing to attack. The remaining two hobgoblins on foot have their longbows ready.

Terra has put up her illusion (the yellow box on the map), And Emyralda has notified the others.
Goblin 8 has two AoO's to walk past. If he lives, he attacks Darian.
Goblin 9 isn't far enough around the corner to get an attack (but the corner protects him from Darian).

Side note, as I'm working on the round.
Darian you can not use cleave unless the two targets are next to each other.
Also, G10 is 15' away, and so is out of your reach.
But you can cleaving finish G9 like you did.

Soth-Loren can see through the illusion, and takes up a position to defend at AA11.

If the goblin lives; Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
And a miss!

Goblin 11 dashes towards Felix, and decides to climb on a wagon to get a height advantage.

The rest of the goblins move forward, and are followed by even more from deeper in the villages.

Hobgoblin Worg Rider 1 charges Taravel. Her AoO misses!
