Darian Castilan |
Darian whips his polearm in a wicked back-and-forth arc across the top of the dog pen.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (1, 2) + 9 = 12
Cleave (if 1st attack hits): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 = 15
Cleaving Finish (if either attack kills an enemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (2, 2) + 9 = 13
Then adjust to O6 so I can take AoOs when the goblins start moving up, and to clear Tara a charge lane if she wants it.
DM Cobalt |
Darian manages to kill two of the goblin hounds, but one lucky hound remains alive, even dodging Taravel's attack.
The goblin hound shakes the makeshift fence keeping him back, but it holds despite its efforts. However it continues to howl, and the goblins blink the sleep from their eyes and move to investigate.
I'll have to post the map later, as I can not access it now.
DM Cobalt |
Emyralda |
Emyralda tries to shoot the same goblin again, while also glancing toward the caves above to see if the goblinoid female returns.

If that kills goblins 3 and 4, Terra should be able to move through to get at goblin 7.
DM Cobalt |
Taravel kills the last goblin, and quiet reigns for a while.
But in the more distant huts, a few goblins continue to show themselves.
So far the ledge and cave entrance has proven quiet, but a little noise leaks out over the roar of the waterfall.
Emyralda |
DC 20 Perception check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Emyralda murmurs the words to a spell and points toward each of her companions. Standard action to cast Message.
"There's at least four creatures speaking deeper in the shadowy cave. From what I can hear, they're preparing to charge out soon," Emyralda's voice whispers into each of her companions' ears.
The young woman turns her attention toward the cave and aims her crossbow at the entrance. Ready action to fire at anyone who exits the cave.
DM Cobalt |
As the noise from the cave gets a bit louder, goblins from the huts move up, readying their weapons. The bodies must have tipped them off that something is not quite right.
One goblin rounds the corner of the hut where Darian and Taravel are, and with a shout of goblin anger, attacks.
But first Darian has his held action, and both have AoOs.
Terra Crux |
"Oh, um, Kinda... I can conceal us, but it'll be pretty obvious we're hidden. This is an illusion so focus your mind and you'll be able to see through it." Terra waves her hand and a cloud of smokey fog starts to billow out of her hands...
Terra uses the spell to create a fog cloud in the area of the hill, obscuring us from view. Will DC 14
Terra can see though the fog, and Emryalda can if she makes the save. She gets a +4 bonus for this because Terra warned her. If Emryald's Message spell is up, she can give the others a +4 bonus to as well. Attacking from the cloud shouldn't invoke disbelief as shooting trough a solid would. Once the baddies make there save after interacting with it, they can see through it. They can then warn their friends to give them a +4 bonus like Emryalda. If I forget that this spell is sustained with concentration, please smack me! More info in spoilers below.
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, F (a bit of fleece)
Range long (400 ft. + 40 ft./level)
Effect visual figment that cannot extend beyond four 10-ft. cubes + one 10-ft. cube/level (S)
Duration concentration
Saving Throw Will disbelief (if interacted with); Spell Resistance no
This spell creates the visual illusion of an object, creature, or force, as visualized by you. The illusion does not create sound, smell, texture, or temperature. You can move the image within the limits of the size of the effect.
Figment: A figment spell creates a false sensation. Those who perceive the figment perceive the same thing, not their own slightly different versions of the figment. It is not a personalized mental impression. Figments cannot make something seem to be something else. A figment that includes audible effects cannot duplicate intelligible speech unless the spell description specifically says it can. If intelligible speech is possible, it must be in a language you can speak. If you try to duplicate a language you cannot speak, the figment produces gibberish. Likewise, you cannot make a visual copy of something unless you know what it looks like (or copy another sense exactly unless you have experienced it).
Because figments and glamers are unreal, they cannot produce real effects the way that other types of illusions can. Figments and glamers cannot cause damage to objects or creatures, support weight, provide nutrition, or provide protection from the elements. Consequently, these spells are useful for confounding foes, but useless for attacking them directly.
A figment's AC is equal to 10 + its size modifier.
A successful saving throw against an illusion reveals it to be false, but a figment or phantasm remains as a translucent outline.
A failed saving throw indicates that a character fails to notice something is amiss. A character faced with proof that an illusion isn't real needs no saving throw. If any viewer successfully disbelieves an illusion and communicates this fact to others, each such viewer gains a saving throw with a +4 bonus.

Readied action
Darian thrusts as the goblin moves into view
Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Damage: 2d4 + 9 ⇒ (4, 1) + 9 = 14
I'm guessing that does it. If the goblin is still up even after the other attacks leveled at it, I'll take my AoO.
Looks like the ranged folks have clear shots at G10 and G12
Emyralda |
DC 14 Will save: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 4 = 18
"Got it," Emyralda replies to Terra's instructions, squinting her eyes until she finally pierces the illusion. "I'll tell the others."
Emyralda then informs her companions via her Message spell about the illusion masking Terra and herself.
DM Cobalt |
Darian dispatches the goblin with little problem.
But another goblin springs around the corner to attack, with a second approaching from the other side.
More goblins drift in from farther down the valley.
The cave then bursts with activity, as several hobgoblins charge out; two mounted on worgs.
They seem to be a bit confounded by the fog on the hill, and only two hobgoblins on foot move into it, drawing their swords.
The others turn towards Darian and Taravel, preparing to attack. The remaining two hobgoblins on foot have their longbows ready.
Terra has put up her illusion (the yellow box on the map), And Emyralda has notified the others.
Goblin 8 has two AoO's to walk past. If he lives, he attacks Darian.
Goblin 9 isn't far enough around the corner to get an attack (but the corner protects him from Darian).
Then a new round is occurring.

Darian Castilan |
As the rush of hobgoblins comes out of the cave, Darian swears. "Scratch that. Get up there and help the others. I'll be right behind you."
"Exactly what I was hoping wouldn't happen. Why would they go for them instead of us? Stupid goblins..."
Just took a better look at the map. Dammit.
Emyralda |
Seeing the hobgoblins approaching the knoll, Emyralda prepares to fire her crossbow at the first one to enter the 'mist'.
Ready action to fire crossbow at the first hobgoblin to enter the illusion, and then reload. (Hopefully the hobgoblin will be flat-footed...)

Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Only one hits, but it strikes true.
Soth-Loren, seeing that the party on the hill is threatened, runs (full move) into the fog to help them.
Soth-Loren can see through the illusion, and takes up a position to defend at AA11.
Goblin 10 runs up on Darian (Darian can take an AoO, or save it for the hobgoblin) and attacks.
If the goblin lives; Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
And a miss!
Goblin 11 dashes towards Felix, and decides to climb on a wagon to get a height advantage.
The rest of the goblins move forward, and are followed by even more from deeper in the villages.
Hobgoblin Worg Rider 1 charges Taravel. Her AoO misses!

Hobgoblin Rider: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Both Hobgoblins attack Soth-Loren (since they are near him).

Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 53
Hobgoblin 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

The Hobgoblin attacking Darian takes the damage, but that does not slow him down.
Ride check vs Taravel's attack on the Worg DC 14: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
The Hobgoblin manages to move his Worg mount to cause Darian's attack to miss.
Taravel manages to hit the Worg despite the rider's attempt to avoid the attack.
So Darian kills no one, and the Finishing Cleave is unused.
Continue with the round.
