DM Cobalt's Unshackled City

Game Master Craig Mercer

Our heroes are based in Cauldron, the northernmost city in Varisia. There they try to survive missions for the city, intriques, and maybe even save the world... or maybe not.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Still here! +1 to what Darian says. I apologize for being slow to posting to this one. Weekends are difficult for all my games, and during the week I usually post from work where I can't access Google Docs, so that makes things more difficult for me as well.

But I'm still around and waiting for my turn in initiative.

hp 25 | AC 13 | T 13 | FF 10 | CMD 14 | F +2 | R +4 | W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6 |

Still here.

One thing that some play by posts do is that they have everyone declare actions for the round and then the DM takes that and does a round summery post. It puts a bit more work on the DM though, but then 1 round only takes about a day. If someone doesn't post in 24 hours, then they are either skipped, or dmpc'ed.

That's kind of wat I'm familiar with, honestly. I'm finally back in the states, so it shouldn't be much of an issue for me any more, but sometimes having to go back and reread everyone else's posts gets confussig to what they are actually doing. I know for me alone it has happened a few times, where I post without seeing something has changed and end up needing to redo my action because things have changed.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I think the number generator hates me. I haven't rolled above a 10 in I don't know how long with this character!

I know how you feel sometimes, Alanaes.
The dice roller seems to be fickle at times, cursing players with long strings of bad rolls.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

What is the creature marked as D5?

You killed the goblin that was riding a goblin dog, what is left is the goblin dog itself (hence D5). Zandu has wounded it.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Gotcha, thats what I thought I just wanted to be sure.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

I think that's my 4th 20 of this combat.

Sorry I'm sucking up all the luck guys.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Hey guys, I'm really sorry, but I'm going to have to drop this game I think. I've become very busy lately, and I need to drop a few of my games in order to stay on top of things. Unfortunately, this one has moved very slowly and I can't really see the map most of the time anyway, since Google Docs is blocked at work.

Sorry for the inconvenience of losing another team member! I wish the rest of you luck with the game.

:(

That sucks. I hope you get things back on track and good luck with everything.

Sorry to see you go, Alanaes. I was looking forward to your character doing things.
I guess I'll just play you out this fight, and then we'll get to somewhere to add new characters for the rest.
This fight is almost over.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Bummer. See you around Al.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

I don't think I've ever played a character that was this effective in a fight, ever.

I admit that has a lot to do with this streak of luck, but even still, damn! Darian's a wrecking ball.

Sorry to so you go Alanaes. Good Luck!

Well, after that big fight, everyone made 3rd level.
So update your characters, and give me a sign that you're still here.
Remember, HP are 1/2 your hit die minimum, or more if you roll better (round up, since 1/2 die always ends in a .5; d6=3.5, 4 hp minimum).

I'll go looking for more players. The next major point will be heading up the path to Cauldron, but you can play out the rest of the trip as much as you want. I'm not going to do a jump cut until you're ready to move on, so let me know.
Or, if you've got other plans, let me know, and we'll move on them.

Oh, and maybe collect goblin ears for a reward? Wasn't there a reward for goblin ears? Or something like that?

There was, I believe it was Left ears. I am mostly done leveling, (I just need to look at spells and a Feat for now, and double check a few things).

GM, what do you think about opening up recruitment again?

~Terra has achieved level 3!~

Terra’s Hit Points increase to 25! (19 +4 Avg +1 con +1 fav)

+1 to Terra's Fortitude Save!

+1 to Terra's Reflex Save!

+1 rank to Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Dungeoneering), Knowledge (Local), Perception, & Spellcraft

Terra learns the spell focus conjuration feat! Her Conjuration spells are harder to resist!

Terra has learned to cast 2nd level spells. She can prepare 3 2nd level spells, one of which must be a conjuration spell!

Terra writes the Flaming Sphere and Web spells to her spell book.

It's sad when a Wizards has more HP than a Cleric. Even with FC to HP, I would only have 2 HP more. . . :(

I've got a re-recruitment post up here.
Re-recruitment post
Please take a look and let me know who looks interesting. After all, you will be playing with them.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

In the recruitment thread, the guy submitting Felix the Ranger is my GM in a couple other games. I can vouch for his writing and reliability. He'd definite be a good addition.

If you say he's good, I'll ask him in.
And we can use a urban ranger.

Im still getting geared up, does anyone know how much gold I should have?

Hey all, I'm excited to join up.

Felix, I went with 1000 plus first level max. I think I saw that somewhere.

I don't think we have gotten any money since we started, but I don't remember, honestly.

Ready to go got all geared up. Switch hitting, trapfinding, tracking ranger here at your service.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Yeah, we just leveled recently. Treasure/reward has been scarce so far so we're all outfitted with basic gear.

As long as you keep the cost of individual items down to less than 200 I'm sure it will be fine.

Just curious, do Urban Rangers have any wilderness skills/tracking at all?

Grand Lodge

Yup, i still get tracking and all that, but i lost camoflauge HIPS etc

Well people, we are down to a dwarf zen archer, a paladin, and a bard.

Who do you think we should choose?
(since you are going to be playing with them.)

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Elf Urban Ranger 3, HP 28, AC 16, CMD 18, F +4 R +5 W +4, Init +4, Perc +10

Bard sounds pretty good imo

As the new person, I am happy with whoever is chosen to fill out the group.

HP , AC , CMD , Fort +, Ref +, Will +, Init +

Because we are currently traveling with Gypsies (and I love any concept that works with the setting and story rather than needing shoe-horning) my vote is for the Bard, but with a caveat.

We should ask her to connect her story to the caravan we're currently traveling with.

Taravel, it would be super-awesome if you could do the same and connect your backstory to the bard's (childhood friends or something). You two could link up with us as part of an honor-debt and a desire to wipe out the goblins that have been attacking Shoanti caravans, and Felix could be hired to track them to their lair.

Anyone have any thoughts or objections?

Shadow Lodge

We are both very charming individuals. . .

And I hav a history in Ustalav prior to the Crusades, so possibly anoher "in", though I also foresee us competing in some things which I had hoped to avoid.

The Paladin seems like a decent group buffer (of sorts) and enemy debuffer (again of sorts). Cayden <CG of drunkeness> as deity though???
Also seems to want to push the boundries really far on being a Paladin.

Zen Archer, I honestly don't know. Can't really get an impression just yet, well last time I checked over there.

hp 25 | AC 13 | T 13 | FF 10 | CMD 14 | F +2 | R +4 | W +4 | Init +5 | Per +6 |

I think the party is pretty well rounded at this point.

I don't know much about zen archers. I'm torn between the bard and the paladin personally.

Question for Teravel: You can't cast spells while raging can you?

Don't worry about the plot tie-ins, that's my problem. And I can tie them in, since they could know each other from being in Cauldron.

I cannot cast spells while raging...that's correct

And I'll be happy to adjust my background as necessary.

Female Human (Varisian) Magus (Hexcrafter/Kapenia Dancer) 1

Hi All! Glad to be joining you!

I finally finished my equipment purchases. I also made a few minor modifications: switched Charming trait for Extremely Fashionable, swapped Open/Close cantrip for Mending, swapped Grease spell for Saving Finale, and moved some skill points around to be more well-rounded.

I'm willing to have Emyralda join the group in whatever fashion you all deem appropriate.

Thanks again!

I think the Sound Striker is a really neat archetype. I'm anxious to see how it plays, Em.

I'd be fine with a cut-away/travel montage to get us to Cauldron, maybe in a tavern or something interviewing for trackers.

Me too. It's an archetype I've been wanting to try for a while now.

I'm in another PbP with a barbarian/sorcerer/dragon disciple - he is quite the dealer-of-death. It's a very powerful combo.
