Whenever I see a thread bemoaning the rogue's "uselessness" in combat I think about how amazing they are in PbPs. People who complain about rogues should look at this game to see what they are missing.
On that note, I would like to say that I am having a great time here. Everyone is doing a fantastic job in terms of playing his character as an interesting manner. And you are doing an excellent job of DMing, especially with an eye to moving the game along.

The forum is acting up again. I can't seem to get into any of my character profiles or the hotlinks to my campaigns. *puzzled* I keep getting redirected to the main page.
DM Carpe |
Hey guys, I'm planning to make a short fantasy/horror film and would love your input if you'd care to give it. Check out the basic early stages proposal HERE if you are interested.
DM Carpe |
No problem Jack, I imagine things will be pretty slow all round for that period, I'm not going to be very posty myself with work and family. Merry Christmas all - Iomedae bless us everyone?
DM Carpe |
Happy holidays all, please list the changes to your character in bullet list form here in discussion. Just to remind everyone HP is half +1, so d6 gets 4, d8 gets 5, d10 gets 6, and d12 gets 7 - obviously you get con and favored class bonuses on top of this, if you don't choose to use them for skill points.
Current XP is 2013, which ought to be easy to remember given the new year :)

I'm taking a level in Sorcerer. I realize this means I'm going to have to ditch the leather armour. Then again, I am looking forward to 'discovering' the new magics. ^^
HP becomes 14, my Will save is enhanced by 2, I get Serpent's Fang 7/day and I can cast two 1st-lev. Sorcerer spells 4/day. I'm going for Mage Armour and Summon Monster I, unless there are any major objections.
Dragolan Canario |
From a purely metagamey perspective, I'd suggest going with burning hands instead of summon monster I; I don't think we have anything else capable of affecting swarms.
ETA: I think I have Dragolan just about updated, except for his new spells. I'm thinking guidance and shield of faith, but welcome comments.
Joll |
@ Carpe: I took another level of inquisitor and updated Joll's skills, HP, Saves and BAB.
-I took Disrupt Undead and Divine Favor as his new spells and remembered to include his domain spell, Protection from Chaos.
- A second level of inquisitor gives:
a bonus to Initiative
A bonus to Survival for tracking
Detect Chaos, Law, Good, Evil at will
Edit: Changed Wrath to Divine Favor
@ Quinta: I would suggest enchantment spells later on since you will not need a common language for them. Dragolan could well be on to something with the need for swarm-affecting spells. However, your Burning Hands spell would not cause enough damage to be worth it for anything else at first level. A summoned creature yields more.
@ Dragolan: Both are good spells. I was thinking of taking them but since they cannot affect the caster I decided against them.
Dragolan Canario |
Joll, I didn't think inquisitors got domain spells--
Each domain grants a number of domain powers, depending on the level of the inquisitor. An inquisitor does not gain the bonus spells listed for each domain, nor does she gain bonus spell slots. The inquisitor uses her level as her effective cleric level when determining the power and effect of her domain powers. If the inquisitor has cleric levels, one of her two domain selections must be the same domain selected as an inquisitor. Levels of cleric and inquisitor stack for the purpose of determining domain powers and abilities, but not for bonus spells.

Alexite Krupt |
OK, here are the changes to Alexite:
- hit points at 22;
- base fort and reflex save at 3;
- base attack bonus to 2;
- additional skill ranks for: climb, handle animal, knowledge geography, knowledge nature, perception, stealth, and survival, and
- combat style archery (rapid shot as feat).
I've updated my character sheet with these changes.
Jack Sand |
Okay, I'm finally back. I hope you all had a great holiday. :)
I see that we've leveled up, so I'll list all of Jack's changes here.
Evasion
Rogue Talent: Fast Stealth
HP: +7; 14
Reflex: +1; 6
BaB: +1
All trained skills +1
I will probably have Jack moving in stealth at all times now that he can do so without slowing the group down (and without penalty). I'll include those rolls in my posts where they are applicable.
In the levels to come, I'm hoping he'll allow the group to have more options for engagements by scouting ahead, and allow the group to travel more safely in any environment.

Jack's altruistic side is showing.
DM Carpe |
Joll I'm afraid it doesn't seem like domains grant Inquisitors spells known. You get only the powers, you do not gain spell slots or spells known. So you will need to remove protection from chaos sadly. Can you also list your spell slots on your sheet, or point out where they are if I'm missing them.
DM Carpe |
Joll all I see is your spells known, there should also be spell slots, telling me how many times a day you can cast said spells. I believe you should now be able to cast 3 1st levels a day, seem right to you?
Joll |
If you look at Dragolan's sheet, you can see where I have checkboxes made of brackets (like this: [ ]) for his spells and channels per day; as I use them, I put x's in the boxes (like this: [x]).
That is a good idea. I will start doing that as well.
Jack Sand |
I spent the last two days moving out of my apartment, so I apologize for the sluggish response. The end of the year is always such a hectic time for one reason or another, isn't it? :P
Jack Sand |
Jack thinks he's a lot more persuasive and charming than he actually is. He wouldn't really work on getting better at it, because in his mind there's no point in messing with perfection. :)
Deal with it!
Dragolan Canario |
Going to leave it for a while so everyone else can get a chance to chip in.
Yeah, 24 posts in seven hours is kind of offputting to come back to after being afk for a chunk of the day. (In my case, I spent part of the day emulating my character and cooking. Chicken paprikash; onions, chicken, crimini mushrooms, garlic, sour cream, and sweet paprika over kluski noodles. Nom nom nom. I do, however, restrict myself to considerably smaller portions than Dragolan does :-).)

I like how quickly this game is moving. The more posts the better. But I understand that we can't always be on-line. It can also be off-putting when a few PCs are monopolizing the conversation.
That meal sounds good. Can I persuade you to post the recipe? Asks the man with negative ranks in Profession (Anything to do with Cooking)
Dragolan Canario |
I handwaved the recipe to a large extent, so this may not be entirely accurate. It should work well enough, though.
4 chicken breasts
2 medium onions
1-2 tablespoons minced garlic
just over 1/2 pound of mushrooms
1+ tablespoons sweet paprika
water
~1 cup sour cream or sour half-and-half
~1/4 cup flour
Slice the onions and mushrooms and saute them and the garlic together over low heat with some variety of shortening (can use vegetable oil, butter, or something like that) until the onions have started to turn translucent. Pull them out of the pan and set aside. Turn up the heat and put more shortening into the pan. Brown the chicken breasts (they don't need to be cooked through, just seared on the outside) and slice them into strips. Put the chicken, onion, garlic, and mushrooms back into the pan with a tablespoon or so of paprika. Simmer, covered, over low heat with about a cup of water for about twenty minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
Mix the flour, sour cream, and a teaspoon or so of paprika together and add to the chicken/onion/garlic/mushroom mixture by spoonfuls, mixing after each addition. Cook, uncovered, until warmed through. Serve over egg noodles. You can also serve it over toasted English muffins.
Note: I didn't use any salt because I'm on a low-sodium diet, but you can add salt to taste.
