Darc Jonash |
Darc continues to attack the creature, moving round to try and flank with Rashun, (using 5ft steps).

Round 5:
Her mind superficially clear for the first time since seeing the creature, Eretria retreats out of the aura of madness surrounding it and invokes arcane power. The fiery lance burns across the creature and it writhes in pain. It clashes its triple jaws together as it glares at the sorceress.
Xavier, Rashun, Darc, and Sami all miss the agile foe.
Round 6:
As the round begins, Sami's mind is still temporarily clear, as is Darc's. The seugathi executes its full attack sequence against the stubborn ranger/inquisitor. Again, it fails to connect with its first sword blow. Rashun ducks under the bite, momentarily exulting in his good fortune. Then the followup sword attack strikes home. Take 11 HP, Rashun. Of course it maxed damage. As the Taldan goes down, the great worm turns its gaze to Darc. Some power in its eyes twists at the half-orc's rage, redirecting it to the nagaji monk at his side. Darc, roll your attack on Sami this round.
Insanity effect on Sami: 1d100 ⇒ 14
Primary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Secondary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Bite attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Confirm secondary attack on Rashun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
ETA: I'll update the map later today.

Xavier close to falling draws a potion and downs it. Cure light wound1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Hoping the thing didn't understand.
We need to get away from this thing, people!
How can I fight something that turns me against my allies?
Sami Johoro |
Seeing the raging form of Darc turn his way, Sami fades back from the half orc, shouting in his face as he does. Wake up! We've too much at stake for this creatire to beat us now!. His hope is that Darc and he may recover and combine forces against the creature again.
Withdraw 20 feet straight back

DM Carbide - Dark Road |
I'm back. A brief bit of explanation regarding the effect of the aura: if you fail your save, it acts like the confusion spell; that is, there's a 25% chance you can act normally, a 25% chance that you do nothing except babble incoherently, a 25% chance you hit yourself, and a 25% chance you attack whatever is closest. On Round 5, even though Eretria failed her save, I rolled under 25% on the aura effect, so she could act normally even though she was still nominally affected by the aura. At that point, getting out of the aura would mean (as far as Xavier knows based on his successful knowledge check...frightening, that the stupid fighter is the voice of experience) that Eretria would not have to continue to make saves against its effects. Make sense?
Two other things: the bad news is that Darc and Sami are no longer needing to fail saves to suffer the aura's effects. The good news is that at some point Eretria may remember that she's carrying around an unusual magic item that might come in handy.
Darc Jonash |
Canvy follows Sami as he withdraws out of the influence of the creature, aiming to hit the monk ...
The round 6 hitting rolls as above... I just hadn't noticed that Sami had down the withdraw thing ...
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 6 (end):
Sami retreats before the attacking half-orc; both end up outside the creature's immediate field of influence, and Darc checks his swing as his sanity temporarily returns.
Round 7:
Current map HERE. At the start of the round, everyone except Rashun is outside the creature's aura (Besmarial is over thirty feet in the air. BTW, Rashun, did you remember the 5 temporary HP from the aid spell it cast on you at the end of Round 4?)
Unfortunately for everyone (especially Sami and Darc), despite escaping from the insidious whispers of its aura their minds are still filled with visions of the seugathi's terrible eyes. In their continued addled state, Darc smashes himself with his flail to drive out the sight (take 5 HP damage, Darc), while Sami's madness turns him against his half-orc ally. Sami, you attack Darc this round. The seugathi clashes its jaws together in what would seem to be laughter at the sight before blasting Eretria with its wand. Eretria, take 12 HP damage. Sami, you're up on Darc.
Initiative order:
Big ugly-done
Sami
Eretria
Xavier
Darc-done
Rashun (unconscious)
Besmarial
Insanity effect on Darc: 1d100 ⇒ 54
Damage to Darc: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Magic missile damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4, 4) + 3 = 12
Xavier Longsaddle |
How can I help? When it keeps assaulting my...IDIOT!
Xavier takes a roundabout route to the trees drawing his potion of Protection from Evil and.drinking it.
Now, if I can just live long enough to do something. Shoulda done that before the battle
Xavier now occupies AJ 13
Xavier Longsaddle |
Xavier despite his wounds won't hesitate, he takes a doublemove, praying to Imodae the potion will protect him. using his reach to grab at Rashun from outside the creatures reach.
Brazen, since he was about to die anyway he calls, This better get me a kiss later!
Next round, if he is still alive, he'll pick up Rashun and take a move action to get away.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 7 (cont'd):
Xavier, since you nominally come after Eretria in the round, you can change your action to a charge from your original location instead of moving to AJ 13 and drinking the potion before trying to double-move and grab Rashun.
Eretria disappears from the creature's perception as Xavier does...something.
Xavier Longsaddle |
Ok, I tried to make the point, though that Xavier is trying to use his magic size to grab Rashun from a non threatend square. He would normally charge to hit the thing but he is wounded and is trying to not draw the thing's attention from the Barbarian
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
OK, makes sense.
Round 7 (end):
Updated map HERE.
Round 8:
Initiative order:
Big ugly-done
Sami-done
Eretria
Xavier
Darc-done
Rashun (unconscious)
Besmarial
The seugathi surveys the battlefield. Sami and Darc seem to be well in hand, Rashun is down, Eretria is gone, the flying helmet is no particular threat, and that leaves the large fighter-type. Xavier, the creature chants in Aklo and waves its tail tentacles rhythmically, in time to the chanting. A cloud forms in front of its mouth and launches itself towards you. DC 18 Will save, please. Don't forget the prot/evil bonus.
Sami and Darc, the memory of the creature's eyes in your head drives you both to a state of near-paralysis. Neither of you can do anything this round but gibber helplessly in terror.
Insanity effect on Sami: 1d100 - 5 ⇒ (36) - 5 = 31
Darc Jonash |
"Gibber, Gibber, Gibber!!!"
I guess this gibbering might mean that Darc comes out of rage and is now fatigued for about 12 rounds? DM Carbide does this happen?
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 8 (cont'd):
To the creature's perception, the lance of flame appears as if from empty air and just manages to hit it because of its size (flatfooted touch attack). It screeches in agony, badly wounded, and turns to face the spell's point of origin.
Xavier, do you want to stick with the original plan for this round?
14/67
Darc Jonash |
Does Besmarial have any abilities that might counter the madness that Sami and Darc are currently suffering from? ... just in case he can help!
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 8 (final):
Xavier rushes in, grabs Rashun from outside the seugathi's reach, and prepares to retreat towards Eretria. The cloud of mental whispers surrounding the creature penetrates his mental defenses but is unable to distract him from his purpose.
Round 9:
Sami is still in fugue, unable to act, but Darc's mind clears for the moment. The bad news is that the seugathi's aura has wormed its way into Xavier's head to the point where he can only drop Rashun and smash at his own head to try to get it out. Xavier, take 7 HP. The good news is that the seugathi, realizing that another scorching ray stands a very good chance of killing it outright, scuttles away at high speed. Eretria, by the time you act it'll be out of range for a scorching ray; give me a Perception check to be able to see it well enough to use magic missile (if that's what you want to do).
Initiative order:
Big ugly-done

Darc Jonash |
Darc blinks several times, looking around for the creature, wondering why he and Sami have moved away from the fight. He watches the creature leave and immediately runs after it, with an orcish warcry. His flail swinging wildly round.
He will hit it if he can.
DM Carbide - Dark Road |
Round 9:
Eretria, you're able to hit it with your spell, but it's still moving. Darc, since it was out of reach of anyone it was able to go immediately to a run--it's over 100' away. A missile weapon would be very useful around now.
I believe Xavier knocked himself out. He stabilized, though.
Darc Jonash |
Darc's run comes to an end as he realises he's not going to catch the beast. He pants, then drops to the floor taking in huge breaths to get air back into his lungs. His body is damp and his cotton clothing is wet with sweat.
Darc is fatigued for 16 rounds as he comes out of rage..although he has a crossbow, its too fiddly to use during rage time.
