DM Carbide |
Early next week--Monday or Tuesday. I'm going to be on the road tomorrow and playing f2f Saturday for the first time in a few months.
Lo'Rai the Scribe |
A young and skinny woman with green skin and pointed teeth enters the back room of the inn, noting she is the first one here. She is dressed in simple yet fine robes of black and white, her black hair tied back into a neat ponytail.
"Well hello. I thought I would be the first one here. Guess not."
She sets her books down, keeping her staff within arms reach as she opens a dusty tome entitled Magicks and the History of Alchemy.
This is my character. I planned for her to be an Evocation Wizard. Still have to get her character sheet built up, but she's mostly done.
Quick question regarding Wizard Schools. Are the Focused Schools alternate rules allowed? If not, no worries. She works just fine normally.
Also, thanks for setting this up!
DM Carbide |
If I read the Additional Resources page correctly, Focused Schools (per APG) are allowed.
Xukong |
The jarring screech of sharp-edged metal on stone comes from down the street, getting louder as it gets closer, then abruptly stops as it reaches the door. Exactly six raps on the door are heard, then a moment of silence before the door is finally opened, and in walks a profoundly disquieting individual: Sinuous muscles can be seen beneath marble-white skin, its movements are rigid, odd, and punctuated by the occasional small spasm, and its sex is impossible to determine for sure, for in addition to its functional yet decorative attire, it wears a stunning metal-and-cloth full mask that reveals only the wearer's eyes: two stark white almonds, as cold and bright as distant stars. Its right arm hangs rather limply over a small hexagonal spellbook and a red coral wand carved into a pitchfork shape, and its left arm rests on the hilt of a massive sword that has clearly enjoyed a fresh sharpening courtesy of the cobblestones outside. It acknowledges Lo'Rai with a sudden, jerky bow, flashes its Sign of the Open Road, then takes a seat next to an end table and begins playing solitaire with a deck of fine carved ivory cards.
Xukong |
This avatar is the most appropriate I could find, but still not very good; as my profile notes, try to picture me as a kind of amalgam of Voldo from Soul Calibur, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, and Hsien Ko from Darkstalkers.
Lo'Rai the Scribe |
"And a good day to you too." She notes the man's unusual movements, but doesn't think it important. She returns to her studies, realizing that she has been the only person of their group to speak.
Still, another's mannerisms is their business, and who was she to pry in another's disposition?
"So how did you two get invited here? I received an invitation from a superior, but that was it just me."
Fun question I ask in every campaign I join. If your character had a voice actor, who would it be?
Lo'Rai would sound like EllieMontie from YouTube as Velvet Remedy from the Fallout: Equestria Radio Play. (is a Brony and not afraid to admit it). You guys? And no, I refuse to accept that the Valdohead doesn't talk.
Xukong |
Hey, let's not preemptively judge. I'm still trying to figure out how Xukong sounds, actually; I guess I don't think quite that extensively about voices. As for who'd play it, I guess it wouldn't be any actor I can actually name (I'm actually an actor myself, but I'm more than a little out of practice due to a drought of opportunities, and am now trying to hammer out the deep and unsightly dents in my head from years stuck in gaming environments where creative play was actively discouraged). Maybe it would be done by one of the more state-of-the-art speech synthesizers.
Xukong looks up from its cards.
"Your question puzzles me," It says in a voice like the wind. "Just as you received an invitation, so did I. The Society is appreciably meticulous about such things."
DM Carbide |
An explicit invitation will be forthcoming, once I have time. Today was supposed to be a day for me to travel, but I've spent most of the morning dealing with work stuff. The joys of email on your phone....
Incidentally, Xukong, one of the people I game with on occasion used to play in a GURPS campaign run by the late John M. Ford and set in the world of Ford's novel The Dragon, Waiting. Apparently most of the players were theater people, so it was quite heavy on the high-quality RP.
Simon Zoraelius |
I actually don't know who'd voice/act Simon (but, like Xukong, I just haven't realy considered it).
and, no offense to any of you fine folk, but I"ll likely wait to do an RP intro until Carbide gets the game thread properly intro'd. I like to handle all that stuff "in scene". :)
Xukong |
11 Charisma is a singularly odd choice of score for a Wizard, Lo'Rai - may I ask what the story is there?
Simon Zoraelius |
She's an approachably-cute-but-not-exceptionally-beautiful half-orc girl? That's my guess. :)
... or her point buy came in with 1 point left over, so it was either bump Cha or Wis to 11, and SinBlade liked her being a bit more cute than wise felt right for the character concept?
Yarricki |
A female gnome enter the lodge, followed by a rather big wasp (medium sized)
"Stay!" the gnome orders the wasp and the wasp sits down on the ground. "Well met! I am Yarricki and this is, for want of a better name: Buzz!"
The gnome holds a lance and is equipped with leather armor. Her hair is a vibrant green and she is rather well-muscled for the average gnome. You also note a club and a sickle at her side.
Disclaimer: she is trying to train the wasp, but the darn vermin isn't much use until Yarricki is lvl 4
Lo'Rai the Scribe |
On the nose, Simon!
When the wasp enters the room, Lo jumps with a screech, her decorated quarterstaff jumping to her hands. She calms a little when she sees the gnome give it commands.
"Oh...you've trained it. Sorry, just...bugs scare me." She sits back down, still keeping her quarterstaff in hand.
"Pleased to meet you. I'm Lo'Rai, scribe and scholar."
Couldn't pass up the chance for that.
Ishingka Thulkarian |
A half-orc armed to the tusks appears in the doorway, less gray-green than the average outcast of Belkzen. A particular artistic and urbane mien is cast by her clothing and hairstyle--still martial, but refined in a way not seen in the countryside. Not incredibly tall, but tall enough, her rather lovely features sport an intricate asymmetrical facial tattoo in dark green and ochre of stylized horses, trumpets, and a winding road that disappears down her neck and back. She grins, showing more of her formidable thick canines.
"Well, O Finders of Paths, I for one am quite pleased to see that you lot won't be kicking my arse with advanced magicking and whatever else the last group I was thrown in with had," she says with a throaty chuckle, speaking in a compelling and mellifluous voice like dark honey. "Desna's cheeks, I had to use every trick to keep up with them. I go by Ishingka, which of course is an old Orcish family name that refers to the sound of drawing a blade and hitting something with it. You may also refer to me as 'Hey You' and 'Kill It' if hard-pressed." She gives that unnerving smile again, cracking her neck and easing against the wall, relaxed yet no doubt ready to fight at the drop of a coin.
Yarricki |
"Now now, Lo'Rai." the gnome responds soothingly "a proper scholar would know that all natural creatures have their place in the circle of life and death. And would you think that the holy Calistrae would choose a wasp as her holy creature if she thought a wasp was scary?"
Lo'Rai: isn't it nice when opportunities arise to better define your character?
Yarricki smiles and introduces herself to Ishingka "Well met, I am Yarirki. I posses some small magics, but would never call myself an advanced magic user"
Xukong |
Xukong continues its card game, visibly transfixed, placing cards down in an unconventional hexagonal pattern with expert speed and skill.
Xukong |
Other PbP games I've played have us use this section to record some character information and our Day Job Roll first thing. Should we do any of that?
Yarricki |
That never hurts
Player ID: 24861-12
Faction: Silver Crusade
No day job
Xukong |
Player ID: 40025-10
Faction: Dark Archive
Craft (Lapidary): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Think of them as hobbies you get paid for - if you love your job, you'll never work a day in your life!
Yarricki |
Lapidary
Never heard or read the word before.
Google translate gives:
- (of language) engraved on or suitable for engraving on stone and therefore elegant and concise.
- a person who cuts, polishes, or engraves gems
so what is it in your case?
Ishingka Thulkarian |
Ishingka sounds like a bit of Grace Jones talking on "Election Day", and Juliana Strangelove:
and also Kathleen Turner swearing on live TV (you'll have to Google that yourself, NSFW)
Xukong |
...Maybe I'm using the wrong word, then. I thought it meant (it's supposed to mean) metalworking of a mostly-but-not entirely artistic nature.
Alright, that's fixed *.*
DM Carbide |
And I'm back from travels and caught up on stuff. Time to get started!
ETA: Just out of curiosity, have any of you played and/or run this scenario before?
Xukong |
I'm pretty sure my answer is no...oh, wait, PERHAPS I have, but if so, only once and I was rather late to the party.
DM Carbide |
I've played it three times--twice as PbP, and once f2f. This is my first time behind the screen on it, though.
Lo'Rai the Scribe |
Just a note, when I read Simon's posts his voice to me is Dante Basco and I think it fits the character. Kinda cocky, a little self-righteous, and invincible (or so he thinks).
Simon Zoraelius |
Zuko, huh? Interesting. You've definitely got the descriptors dead-on (though I wouldn't have added "kinda" and "a little" in there. :D ).
Zuko has a laid-back "bad boy/cool guy" sound to him that I wouldn't have put on Simon. Simon is too much of a nerd who believes he can out-smart any opponent or problem. He's pretty much only a 'cool guy' in his own head, though he is out to convince everyone else that's the case.
DM Carbide |
Is Simon going to grow up to be Gilderoy Lockhart, then?
Simon Zoraelius |
Ha! Geez, I hope not.
I was reading the forums, shaking my head at some of the self-assured, immature, self-important posts (which I'm sure belonged to nobody in this thread), and I realized that this was the kind of person who wants to grow up to be a campaign's BBEG.
thats when it hit me ... i desperately need to play the guy who's got the potential to grow up to be a BBEG mega-caster. It's why Simon (such a common-sounding name) has the last name Zoraelius (which just sounds "powerful-wizard-y")
Xukong |
Wait...explain these new "cards" to me. I've been out of the loop for a bit.
Xukong |
Incidentally, I'm trying to figure out my deity - Nethys would be a good choice, but I'm wondering if perhaps there's something more 'niche' for this character. I know a lot about the extended Golarion pantheon, but I'm checking to see if maybe someone else can fish up something I've overlooked.
Lo'Rai the Scribe |
I hope I don't cross a line with this train of thought/behind-the-scenes post.
When I had originally made Lo'Rai, I was gonna place her under a specific category that publishers for Pathfinder had done for all of the Iconics. In order to appeal to more people, they made all of the Iconics bisexual(ironically, the wizard's backstory makes such a claim questionable since he doesn't have a family and he hates the gods). They also stated that Merisiel, the rogue, is actually more inclined toward women.
I had planned to make Lo'Rai gay and make her ever so subtly swoon for the female in the party with the highest Cha. Incidentally, that would be Ishingka. However, Simon is making this kinda difficult, and now I'm thinking she's just bisexual with lesbian tendencies.
Again, I hope this train of thought hasn't offended anyone.
Xukong |

Wait, what? How does that follow?

GM: Faction cards can be found here
basically they are a further evolution of the old faction missions. Important parts to know:
- a player can only check of 1 checkbox per chronicle (unless otherwise noted)
- a gm can only check of one of the GM checkboxes if he assigns a chronicle to a character
- there is no GM administration involved
