DM Carbide |
The whole room, and unless otherwise stated everywhere on this level.
DM Carbide |
I think it's a way of making goblins close to threatening in non-extreme numbers. When 2/3 of the party can't see them if they're more than 5' away, and you can't charge them even if you could see them, all of a sudden those little d4 shortbows become a little more of a concern. Fortunately for you, there aren't a whole lot of goblins in here.
Melody Flaxseed |
Melody touches Kragnor and once again whispers, "Go get 'em!"
Bit of Luck: how I understand it (and how I've seen others use it) is that for the next round any time you make a d20 roll (not just once), you get to roll twice and take the better. The ability reads, "For the next round, any time the target rolls a d20, he may roll twice and take the more favorable result." So go get 'em!
Senja Kala |
In order to see what’s going on in the room, Senja moves down the hall a bit, tucking himself up against the door they opted not to go through. He then tosses a pellet of shadow at the closest goblin. The pellet expands into a small, whirling mass of shadow which flows over the nasty critter’s bow.
Evil eye on western goblin, DC 14 Will save or -2 to attacks.
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Kragnor nods at Melody. "Thanks ye laddie!" He then stomps toward the goblins.
Double move
DM Carbide |
I cleared part of the map, showing what Kragnor can see from his new vantage. Incidentally, Kragnor, give me a Perception check.
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Dwarf Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Kali Starr |
Kali follows Kragnor and Eva into the dark, rubble filled chamber, moving past the monk to come within striking distance of the first goblin she sees.
Double Move

Round 1 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Goblins-acted
Asvald
Senja-acted
Melody-acted
Kragnor-acted/Eva-acted/Kali-acted
Kragnor notices nothing out of the ordinary.
Senja, the magic does not affect the goblin as well as you would have liked.
Asvald, you're up!
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Lucky Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Or not...
DM Carbide |
Good thought, Eva. Unfortunately, the dice module has it in for you guys. Though having all three of the goblins miss their first shot was kind of pathetic for me, too.
DM Carbide |
I'll see what I can do. Actually, you'll see what I can do, too.
DM Carbide |
Eventually. I don't think the darkness effect includes the bottom few levels....
Round 2:
Initiative order
Goblins-acted
Asvald
Senja-
Melody-
Kragnor-/Eva-/Kali-
There's a bit of byplay in goblin among the three of them, with the two who are retreating (and who seem, distressingly enough, not to be overly slowed by the rough terrain) apparently mocking the third. The third goblin readies its shield and shortsword, then takes a short step towards the arch.
Over to you!
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 1 = 13
2H Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
BoL: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17
"'thetic bugger!" Kragnor grumbles as he swings his axe at the goblin.
DM Carbide |
Does the Bit of Luck ability continue this round? Melody had to hit you with it before you moved, so it should expire at her action.
Senja Kala |
Hmm... Senja speaks Goblin...
I was gonna say the same. What did they say?
Senja moves a few paces into the room and conjures another writhing mass of shadow into his hands and tosses it at the remaining goblin, hoping to make him a bit easier for the Pathfinders to strike.
Evil eye for -2 to AC, DC 14 Will to resist.
Melody Flaxseed |
Bit of luck is only one round at a time. Probably wouldn't have used it last round if I had realized they were too far away to hit but oh well. I'll save the rest for later.
Melody has trouble moving her short legs over the rough ground. Double move up.
DM Carbide |
No problem.
Senja Kala |
Senja calls out to his companions, ”The two that ran away were making fun of this one for forgetting the plan! It sounds like they were going to lure us into something, but I don’t’ know what. And worst of all, the fools think we’ll eat them if we kill them! Goblins are disgusting.”
Eva Baldursdóttir |
"Are you able to convince the remaining one that we will not? It could provide useful information, and might be more inclined to... cooperate due to its friends' insults?" replies Eva, holding her blade ready in case negotiation fails.
Senja Kala |
"Um, I can try, "responds Senja, "but I doubt it'll be much of a sales job. "
He calls out in a harsh, guttural tongue and awaits the creature's answer.
Diplomacy : 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
If I cant do this in one round, so be it, but if it takes the usual one minute for a Diplomacy check, the goblin will be dead.
Kali Starr |
Kali holds her weapon ready to attack the goblin while she waits for a response to Senja's overtures.
Ready action to attack if the goblin acts aggressively or tries to flee.
DM Carbide |
The penalties for rushing the check while you're still fighting the other two make this pretty much impossible, unfortunately.
Round 2 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Goblins-acted
Asvald
Senja-acted
Melody-acted
Kragnor-acted/Eva-/Kali-
The goblin does not seem to be convinced. Asvald, Eva, and Kali, have at.
Asvald Bjornson |
Asvlad rears back and hacks at the wily goblin.
Chop: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
:P I'm gonna hold off on narrating that one, 'cause with it being a goblin it just /might/ succeed?
DM Carbide |
CMD 12. You got it!
Kali Starr |
"You had your chance, you little creep." Kali admonishes as she slashes at the uncooperative goblin.
Wakizashi vs. Grappled target: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Threat Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Crit Damage in case that confirms: 1d6 ⇒ 4
DM Carbide |
Asvald's stroke misses and the goblin blows a raspberry at the skald. Its merriment is short-lived, though, as Eva grabs it and Kali slashes its side open. It's still barely conscious, but its struggles are far weaker. Missed the confirmation by 1, Kali.
Round 3:
Initiative order
Goblins-acted
Asvald
Senja-
Melody-
Kragnor-/Eva-/Kali-
The two remaining active goblins shoot at Kragnor (who takes 3 HP from an arrow) and then retreat out of sight around the corner.
Arrow to Kragnor: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Arrow damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Eva Baldursdóttir |
"Hold," says Eva. "Senja, please speak to it once more and inform it that my offer is given for the last time. It may tell us what it knows of the rest of this place in exchange for its life."
The muscular schoolteacher studies the child-sized creature in her grasp, hoping that it takes the offer.
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
"Bah! Don't waste your time with the vermin. You can't reason with a creature that has no reason!"
Senja Kala |
Senja speaks once again in the harsh goblin tongue, reiterating the offer to let the creature go in exchange for information.
Goblin: "Like I said, we don't want to eat you. We don't even want to taste you! Tell us what dangers wait for us inside, and we''ll let you go. Decide now, or my strong friend will snap your neck!"
Kali Starr |
Kali waits impatiently, poised to finish the goblin off when it undoubtedly ignores good sense once again. "Hey, I heard something that sounded like an arrow being fired, you guys need to make this fast."
Delay until the goblin attacks and/or tries to escape.
DM Carbide |
Round 3 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Goblins-acted
Asvald
Senja-acted
Melody-
Kragnor-/Eva-/Kali-
Something in Kali's bearing and Kragnor's tone leaves the goblin with the impression that you are not to be trusted. It struggles briefly and ineffectually against Eva's pinioning arms, but the effort further opens the wound left by Kali's wakizashi and the creature falls unconscious.
Break Grapple: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva shrugs and drops the creature, taking a moment to brush herself off. "Let us continue, then."
Let's check out that tower to the upper-left of the map?
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
"Bah! You scared it to death! Worthless creature..." Kragnor move northeast into the next room. Still have 10' ft of movement, waiting to see what he can see.
Senja Kala |
"There's a door right behind me here that we haven't investigated," Senja says from the doorway, "maybe we should take a look at it, so we don't leave any surprises behind us? Seems like a Pathfindery thing to do..."
DM Carbide |
From Kragnor's new vantage point he can see a set of double doors to the east.
Melody Flaxseed |
Melody trots along behind the party. "Pity about the poor goblin. Then again, they aren't the most beautiful creatures. . . or the brightest. So it's not the biggest lost." She hums a tune to herself and raises her shield in anticipation of danger.
DM Carbide |
Kragnor, are you going back with the party?
