He's hanging back and staying out of the way. (Unless you have something else to ask him, he'd like to return to the surface.)
DM Carbide |
I may be slightly delayed in posting next--normally I do a lot of posting from work in slow times, but there haven't been any of those today, and probably won't be for the next couple of days.
DM Carbide |
Currently hiding in the basement, waiting for the storms to pass over.
DM Carbide |
A watch for now, but the radar is showing some pretty heavy storms coming our way, some of which have rotation.
Incidentally, has anyone heard from Eva lately? I'll keep botting her if need be, since you're fairly close to the end of the level.

This is the part where I show up and apologize for the radio silence, with some reasonable-sounding excuse like "work got crazy busy for a few weeks there" and some assurance such as "it's settled down somewhat, and I should be able to get caught up and be posting fairly regularly again soon".
How'd I do?

Not bad, for the first time. Hopefully you won't get as much practice at it as I have.... Let me know if I missed anything when I was botting you; I went off your character profile for AC.

No vagueness this time. Last week my division had five separate radiological incidents, including a personal shoe contamination over an order of magnitude above the mandatory "officially report this to DOE" level, and a measurable uptake of radioactive material that has a very good chance of exceeding the level at which the DOE's watchdog office sits up and takes notice. I'm the chief safety officer for my division, and I just finished a very polite meeting with the Laboratory COO; his deputy; the director of the environment, safety, & health division; the site radiological safety officer; my division director; and the associate division director in charge of research for my division. So I'm a little distracted at the moment, and if I'm slow posting that's why.

On a completely different topic: Eva, have you heard anything from Count B. lately? He hasn't posted to my KM game for almost three months.
Senja Kala |
Wow, Carbide, that's a little nuts. Why so many incidents, do you suppose? I do hazmat response for the Federal EPA, including some rad work, so I'm at least tangentially familiar with what your talking about, and that's not really an incident rate anyone wants.
DM Carbide |
Senja--sometimes I think it's mostly a matter of probability. There's a small chance that someone is going to screw up in a novel way when doing any task, it's more obvious when you're doing rad work, and sometimes you get clusters. At least that's what it looks like for these. The uptake was in a different group & building from the other four, and one of the shoe contaminations was a student who wasn't doing any rad work--just walking through a radiological buffer area. OTOH, we can't just say that they were unrelated; we have to be able to make a solid case for that.
It doesn't help that the OSHA-recordable injury rate for the whole lab is way up from last year, so our sponsors (and we) are looking for reasons for it. Oh, and a machinist tried to cut a finger off with a horizontal bandsaw last August, so the watchdog office has already been out here investigating that. And we're probably going to eat a fine from the EPA for not posting our RCRA satellite/general accumulation areas correctly. (I was talking with the lead inspector when they came out; they said that most sites they inspect have ten or twelve satellite accumulation areas at most. We have around 250. Well, we're spread out, and we have lots of smaller lab spaces.)
It's a living. I help people make science happen and that's amazing, but sometimes it means this sort of thing.
Senja Kala |
Recognizing that we've already lost Asvald and the others, I have to say: 250 satellite accumulation sites is a vast number. I should also point out that Nuria may wonder what the heck we're talking about, since he builds satellites for a living.
Sorry about the EPA fine...

On a completely different topic: Eva, have you heard anything from Count B. lately? He hasn't posted to my KM game for almost three months.
Hmm, that's odd... I talk to him all the time, and he told me the other day that that game had died. Maybe it's not updating for him... I'll mention that you asked about him.
Nuria |
No confusion here - Satellite accumulation facilities for waste are integral to every lab, even ones with large numbers of space nerds. I frequently work with radiation physics, although mostly EM radiation rather than radioisotopes - very, very rarely with (encapsulated) Fe-55. Nothing on Carbide's scale.
DM Carbide |
We've been moving along, albeit slowly--the players have been having a lot of life, and I wasn't really able to push. It's way easier to 'bot missing characters in a fight than a discussion with NPCs.
DM Carbide |
Out camping for the long weekend, trying to keep my mind off of work. I'll be back sometime Monday. Have a great 4th, all of you in the US.
DM Carbide |
Just had another rad control procedural noncompliance in one of the same groups as before, though at least no contamination was involved. This blows.
DM Carbide |
I'm going to be camping this weekend and largely off the grid.
Asvald Bjornson |
Perform (50% more because of Booming Settlement): 1d20 + 11 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 1 + 2 = 27
I'll take B6.
DM Carbide |
Noted, all. Eva, did you ever talk to the Count?
Senja Kala |
Craft (baskets), Booming Settlement Bonus: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 2 = 26
I thought we had to own 8 hexes to get the 50% bonus from Booming Settlement?
Buying Hex C1 for 2 PP.
DM Carbide |
Thanks, Eva--he showed back up. Now I just have to hear from the fourth player....
I've reported the session.
DM Carbide |
Apparently not--at least, it's not mentioned in the character profile, and doesn't appear on the chronicle sheet. That's a hole.
DM Carbide |
As far as I'm aware, not mentioning the spell book in the profile (or treasure list), or putting it on the chronicle sheet, means that PCs can't copy spells from it. If this has come up elsewhere and there's a definitive answer from Paizo I'll go with that, though.
Senja Kala |
I was kidding, sorry that wasn't clear. I'm sure you're right, without a bunch of spells listed in the scenario or on the chronicle, I don't get to copy any. I use my hexes so much more than my spells, I don't feel I need a bunch more spells anyway.
DM Carbide |
Sorry--work is being distracting again (someone decided it would be a perfectly fine idea to take a regular shop vac into a Contamination Area for cleanup; luckily, someone spotted it before they could actually use it).
Senja Kala |
Hmm, not ideal. We sometimes use a shop vac to deal with gross contamination, but that's with chemical contaminants and the shop vac is then disposed of afterward. I wouldn't do that in any situation where I had a concern about radiation, especially any loose alpha contamination - and it sounds like you wouldn't either.
Senja Kala |
Senja is leveled, though I've got 9000 gold to spend. I don't see a lot that he needs in particular, though I might bump his AC a bit. So I'm looking for y'all's thoughts on two topics:
Anything a witch might need?
Anything we as a group need? Do we need more healing wands? Do we have a way to deal with ability damage at this point? Any other condition removal magic we should invest in? (Senja has one scroll each of remove blindness/deafness and remove disease)
Asvald Bjornson |
I don't know how Senja feels abou formal wear. The blouse that cackles for you a few times per day is nice for witchy types.
Senja Kala |
Yeah, I looked at that. Thought it was pretty expensive for what it does, but I've gone ahead and bought one, since it could come in handy.
Will update alias soonest.
DM Carbide |
Ah, well. There's always next level.
Also, Senja is right--Booming Settlement currently only gives you +2 on Day Job rolls. You'll get the +50% at 8 hexes.
Asvald Bjornson |
Asvald's profile is updated. He's got favored enemy (constructs) now and can talk in wildshape!
DM Carbide |
Everyone leveled?
Nuria |
Senja can learn spells from other familiars and scrolls.
Is there any mechanism of just paying witches to "borrow" their familiar, much like copying spells from a wizard? IE, pay the following for the privilege:
0 2.5 gp
1 5 gp
2 20 gp
3 45 gp
4 80 gp
5 125 gp
...etc.
Or are you limited to scrolls?
