::Hard to tell. I think they'll hear us out, at the least.::
Kjolmar keeps his hands raised and his posture defensive as he says, "Sjá, einhver að gera galdur dylja hans fara burt svo við getum séð úlfur sem er að fela sig í sauðargæru, ha?"
Mountain Dwarven:
Look, someone make his magic disguise go away so we can see the wolf that's hiding in sheep's clothing, eh?
:: It's not an illusion, so most of that won't work. Detect magic will show he's under a spell and even the school. That would help. Detect evil might be interesting. ::
One of the priests looks at the dwarf you are accusing, his eyes clearly seeing something beyond the physical world. Ég sé ekkert út af the venjulegur. Engin blekking.
Nema fyrir dragon maður ráðast á einn af bræðrum okkar. Clarifies one of the priests glowering at you the most.
Dwarven:
I see nothing out of the ordinary. No illusion. Except for a dragon man attacking one of our brothers.
Kjolmar bites his lip, hoping his allies didn't start something that they can't finish. ::You can see the magic on 'im, can't ya? Don' tell me yer jus' basin' this offa hunch or somethin'.::
:: I can't see it without casting a spell, which I don't think would be a good idea right now, but I watched him cast it. He was trying to hide it, but I could see what he was doing. Tell the fool of a priest it's a transformation, not an illusion.::
Kjolmar announces to the priests, "Hann var ekki bara að breyta útliti hans, breyta hann."
Mountain Dwarven:
"'e didn't jus' change 'is appearance, 'e transformed."
He leaves out the part about clawing out the man's throat, however. He then says through the collective, ::This ain't lookin' good, mates. Get ready to run if we need to.:: He makes sure he has a straight path toward one of the windows (assuming they're open).
From the last time I checked: The windows are high in the wall and have a wooden latticework across them. You could probably smash your way out but it would be a little difficult.
If we can't get out of this diplomatically, then Quodak's best bet will also be acrobatics. I'd rather not start shooting up the place. Something tells me they wouldn't like it. Do we even know where we actually are? If he doesn't have them prepared already, DM Caleth, Quodak will, in the next 12 seconds, prepare psychic strike as a move action, begin the full-round action to psionically focus, as a standard, and complete the full-round action with another standard action, just as a precaution. As far as I can tell, there are no outward "tells" other than closing my eyes for a few seconds for the psionic focus, maybe.
The windows are not that high, they start slightly above a DWarf's head, so at about eye level for a human. Remember that this room is built for Dwarves, so your heads are scraping the rafters. You guys are also lucky that you looked towards the window when you did.
As you turn your heads towards the window to plan the acrobatic escape that might be necessary you see only a wall of flame approaching, which blows through the windows with a howl as the elemental apparently steps over the building you are in, accompanied by a blast of heat. The dwarves in the room with you are for the most part not prepared, and are caught full-on by the flames, which leave the room scorched, with small fires breaking out among the furnishings. The dwarves who are still ambulatory rush out in a panic to do what they can against the elemental which now directly threatens their holy building, temporarily leaving the dead and dying in the wreckage.
12 fire damage; Ref DC15 half. If you are intent on keeping your eye on the impostor during the commotion, you should make a perception check.
Moredrel has been trying to stay focused on the imposter the whole time so he doesn't react to the fire in time and gasps in pain as the flames wash over him. His fox dances neatly out of the way of the heat, using dwarves for cover, but still manages to help keep Moredrel pointed at the right dwarf.
I assume the dwarves holding him let go, either burned or rushing out.
Kjolmar catches the force of the flames along his side, which catch his beard and a portion of his clothing on fire. He hastily beats out the flames as best he can.
Yes, you can avoid the flames, being outside. You should clarify you position though, since if you were in the courtyard, you are now in the midst of a battle, and if you were in the street outside, the entire fight just passed you by.
The dwarves seem to have temporarily forgotten about the commotion you caused in the midst of this infinitely greater commotion. All of the able dwarves are now trying to cordon off the main temple, leaving as far as you can see, no one to solve the problem of you or the impostor.
Just tell me if you are going to join the fight or just gtfo, or do something completely off the wall, so that I can get started on making the appropriate map.
What happened to the imposter? Or did I miss the Perception check?
Moredrel's very loose plan is to try to capture the imposter then help deal with the elemental, if still necessary.
The impostor is moving out into the courtyard with the other dwarves to fight the elemental. Just to make this encounter a little more interesting, anyone who is actively trying to keep tabs on him will have to make a perception check each round, with a -5 penalty if you do not spend a move action focusing on his movements. Alternatively, if he does something out of place, you will get a check of some other kind (eg Spellcraft) to realize it.
In the courtyard of the temple, perhaps 10 dwarves are running about, most of them trying to fight the fires being spread by the elemental. The elemental on the other hand is clearly in distress, as it is now enclosed in the relatively small courtyard.
Quodak, re your last action, it is only a move action to get into the courtyard, so you have a standard left.
Initiative:
Quodak:24
Dwarves:19
Elemental:18+
Moredrel:18-
Kjolmar:7+
Orion:7-
Krathok, you should place yourself in initiative.
Map to come tonight at the latest, but the elemental is huge and the courtyard is relatively small, so at any given time, all but a small potion of it will be threatened.
Kjolmar, not looking to get within its reach but still willing to help fight it, takes out his shortbow as he steps outside (keeping as far away as possible from the elemental) and taking a shot.
But the poor fox is almost stepped on in the confusion and loses track for the moment, while Moredrel, despite the distraction, happens to have a clear line of sight.
Based on my understanding, Krathok is in the street.
I'll slot in at the end of the initiative chain.
Krathok's reverie is broken by the feeling of flame and pain washing through the collective. He grimaces, showing his nascent tusks before moving to join the others.
Double move to the edge of the courtyard? - will start on the healing next round when everyone is in LOS
Quodak will psychic strike, as he doesn't know Psychic strike doesn't work on mindless creatures. WHether he figures it out or not is up to you. He'll re-prepare psychic strike once he's done.
Attack roll stays the same (+1 from str -1 from size), but damage is 9 instead of 8.
Also my AC is 2 lower.
Per enlarge: The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet
Sorry about that, I'm back. The side buildings are about 12' tall, containing two floors. The north building is 20' up to the flat roof, and another 8' for the red roofed structure on top.
Quodak and Orion join the dwarves in combat aginst the elemental, but are having trouble hitting the quickly flickering flames of the creature. Two of the Dwarves' axes bit into the creature, doing little damage to the insubstantial flames. The elemental focuses on Orion, the newly looming threat, and the Dwarf who did it harm, connecting with monumental fists of fire(Orion: 11 fire damage and make a Reflex save). The dwarf falls to the ground aflame, and a priest rushes to his side to help. The Elemental blunders forward, lighting the flags strung across the courtyard on fire, other dwarves move to try to put them out before the fires can spread.
Map Remember, to keep your eye on the impostor you need to make a perception check with a -5 penalty if you do not take a move action to follow his movements.
