I've chosen the new group of initiates to the Derek Keegan school of wittiness; If someone wants to fill them in on what's been going on so far from the players' perspective that would be great (and it will let me know what I've managed to convey of the story too!)

Semenya: The 14/18 AC reflects the change if you're wearing armor, which you won't be doing all the time?

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

A'ight, per DM Are's IC post, I'll be selling off the stuff in character soon.

I'll try to sell the jeweled sword as well.

Assuming Semenya's numbers are correct and we've had no changes, we have 4150gp to split amongst Derek, Semenya, & Eklectos.

I move to 550gp to Eklectos, giving us each a nice round 1200gp to spend.

On his rounds in selling the gear Appario will be tithing 5% to the Church.

Appario's gold:

90gp to start (from first mission and selling his armor)
+ 1080gp (his share, less tithe)

=1170gp to spend.

I will ponder my shopping this day should the splits be acceptable to all.

Oh oh oh, I know the answer teach, Pick me teach!
It's when she has cast Mage armor isn't it?

Sweet, it looks like I got the job.

I've read the whole IC thread and I've written a short blurb for Maddok's motivations for signing on (it's in my profile). Are, are you going to set us up for actual introductions or is that something we should handle on our own?

Also, when I was writing Maddok up I did so under the assumption that I was going to be handling the divine-castering. Suddenly it looks like there's a surplus of that so I may focus more on front-line combating in the future.

Welcome Maddok.

Welcome Granor.

Welcome Yahirma.

And congrats.

I look forward to you helping me become a better PbP player.

Let's see how we get you integrated into our little Gardening group.

I figure we can use the OOC thread to set up the introductions, then handle the IC introductions in the game thread.

Alternatively, I could have you introduced by Janiven and Arael as recruited by the Gardeners on the upcoming victory feast.

Better and more engaging ideas will be welcomed :)

Well hello everyone! I hope to have a lot of fun with you all!

Thanks for the welcomes!

DM, anyway you want to include me is perfectly fine by me.

Well, since Granor always wants to help and protect others, maybe he can be enocuntered healing some people that guards have beaten up, or even standing up to a guard he is shure he can take on before he calls for backup.

I was thinking Maddok could be one of the smiths that benefited from the party's confrontation with Jalki and her goons. They had been pressuring him for some time but a combination of foolhardy pride and fear of what his powers would do kept him from trying anything against them.

After hearing about what the Gardener's accomplished Maddok was inspired and sought them out to help. He's tired of hiding while thugs have their way with his friends and neighbors.

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

I suspect that Yahirma is more likely to find the party than the party is likely to find her, mostly because she's already on the lookout for guides, leads, and conspicuous figures. I'll read up on the last couple hundred posts at least to fit myself in a bit better beyond that.

14 is AC without Mage Armor, 18 is AC with Mage Armor.

Semenya's numbers did not include the fancy shortsword.

There may or may not be a reward delivered through Arael for returning stolen property.

Are, what sort(s) of things can Semenya buy?

I've reviewed the whole thread but I don't recall, what is the safehouse exactly? Is it just a tavern?

Semenya just asked Appario to accompany her to the Weaponsmiths street, as he's just offloaded a lot of merchandise there.

She's looking to acquire both a Masterwork grade Battleaxe and Masterwork grade Light Crossbow.

This seems like a good opportunity for Semenya and Appario to meet Maddook.

GM Are - the newcomers are all coming in with about 1500 GP more in gear than any of us have, due to WBL stuff, and the fact that this is the first real infusion of liquid capital into the game.

Would it be reasonable to say that we sold the +1 breastplate to Maddok at full MSRP, since he has one on his inventory list that he already paid full MSRP for, and unlike Granor, his isn't explained by backstory?

This gives Appario and Derek and I another 217 GP apiece to play with if you agree.

Not sure I can agree with this completely Semenya as Apparios wealth is above the rest because he has the +1 breastplate and morningstar. With gold, he'll be close to 5000gp value. I know it isnt fair, but it isn't unfair either.

If you want the morningstar it's yours.

Also, Appario isn't planning on any major purchases right now so if you want to borrow 1000 gp in character, Appario will be happy to lend it to you. Of course, there will be a small (Church mandated, of course) lending fee due next time we cash in.... ;)

Correction to the above: Appario tithed 10%, not 5%, as previously noted. Oops.

We're still a bit short. Appario is around 4900 net. Semenya is around 2000 net. Derek is around 2300 net.

Most of the difference is funneling higher priced healing potions to you two, and arms and armor. The delta on selling the +1 breastplate at full MSRP comes close to getting us "correct" WBL averaged out.

I'd been tallying Semenya's stuff and going "Huh...that seems low."

An extra 200 GP would be useful, but it's not critical. I doubt it would break anything.

Plus, it gives us a nice hook, if you sold that breastplate to Maddok.

Selling Maddok the breastplate isn't super necessary. I kind of like the idea of Maddok smithing his own equipment (at least initially).

You guys showing up showing up for weapons (an axe I believe) is a good enough intro hook.

One of the reasons Semenya is going to you is because (in theory) Appario sold stuff to your business, and says you deal fairly.

I imagine that being female and buying weapons on the armor smithy street is sort of like being female and buying a used car.

You look for word of mouth recommendations that the person doing the selling won't look down the front of your blouse and decide to raise the price by 20%...

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

That makes sense.

Granor could be helping Maddok with the orders, since he is quite a competent smith when it comes to making weapons and armor. Honest work is always a good way to earn extra coin. I can see him first asking around for the most honest smith in the street before offering help.

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 12

It is possible that Yahirma has figured out that adventurous, streetwise types need to patronize smithies to keep their slashing implements in good shape; she might be hanging around. To give Maddok and Granor a bit of role-playing space, I'm also happy jumping in in the following scene.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

If it pleases someone as another option/hook, Appario will need to go to the Church of Abadar to tithe and file his forms (I90, Statement of Adventuring Income) on his way to and fro escorting Semenya on her quest to buy goods.

If someone has left a note or message with or for me there....

Also, Semenya, are you *sure* you don't want to take out a loan? I assure you the Churches loan rates are very reasonable...

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

One of the rules of storytelling is to try to give each character their own introduction scene, rather than introduce mobs. Remember, this is to let the new character establish themselves, and show off a bit of awesome.

I'm going to recommend, since Granor and Derek are both heavy imbibers, that their scene involve a bar, or brewery of some sort.

Perhaps Derek can be learning to use his Brew Potion feat in the back of the bar when Torag shows up. (Trope conventions usually make for the first use of ANY new ability be a chance for comedic failure...)

Up to Derek and Granor of course...

What are these reasonable rates? And shouldn't your armor and morningstar have been tallied into the entirety of the haul before division? :)

(If there's an IC discussion with rates, Semenya will listen - right now I'm also waiting to see what, if any, items are available for purchase.)

Assuming those counts are right, then you're pretty much right where you're supposed to be in total. Each of you should be at 3000 (9000 total) according to WBL, and the total sum is 9200.

But, I'm open to the idea that you sold the breastplate to Maddok at full price. It would be even better if the breastplate was traded to Maddok for an equivalent amount of weapons/armor from his smithy.

Of course, I'll have to make sure there's some items that Derek and Semenya would want to use in the next haul, as Appario already has more than his fair share ;)

As for item-availability, this is a large enough city to have all types of masterwork weapons/armor from the CRB available.

What about wands?

Derek did express some interest in going to an old 'friend' who was last met at an upscale restaurant/inn to report on the latest developments. Granor might have discovered that this place has the best dwarven-brewed ale in town, which could lead to a fine meeting of kindred spirits :)

All minor magic items from the CRB can also be found here with minimum effort.

It balances out to about two masterwork weapons. Perhaps an Axe for Semenya, and a masterwork crossbow.

Good to know about the wands.

I am assuming wands that represent a general hazard to others are harder to find...

Semenya will be picking up a wand of Magic Weapon. I'll also be swapping Dodge out for Point Blank Shot; enough of the spells she'll be picking up along the way will benefit from it. By the time it runs out of charges, we should be at the point where we're commissioning either of the smiths to permanently enchant weapons for us.

Regarding the loot-distribution: Since Appario ended up with the magical weapon, a magical armor, and a wand, it would seem honorable for him to give Semenya and Derek a larger share of the coins :)

Happily, name the split.

Also, I think I have a new goal in this game: to see how many good, solid roleplaying posts can be reasonably inserted while progressing the story/character between posts by DM Are.

I think we just had 15 or so.

I'll leave the split up to the three of you.

Maddok wrote:

The safehouse is an old shrine to Aroden, that has been inwardly converted to an Iomedaean shrine.

Janiven and Arael had purchased a tavern to function as a front, but the Hellknights discovered that location.

The Gardeners gain 2 additional fame points for taking out the Bastards of Erebus and returning the stolen goods (total number of fame points so far: 5).

Appario and Arael also return with 280 gp in rewards from the various gemcutters and jewellers, who are very happy that their goods are returned to them.

Assuming we can get Semenya's Axe and Crossbow for the balance of selling the breastplate at full MSRP. (Perhaps Maddok is in the process of removing the various Asmodean symbols that were embellishing it? And fixing the hole that Appario put into it with his sword...)

As to the divvy - with the swapping of the breastplate for Semenya's upgraded kit, Semenya is about where Derek is (or slightly ahead).

The treasure divvy with the reward money is now about 1300 GP each; the delta between Appario and the other two is just about 2K GP.

Shall we call it 1550 apiece for Derek and Semenya (enough for each of them to buy two wands and some petty cash) and 800 for Appario - it's not exactly even (Appario is still a bit ahead because there's no way to make an even divvy without selling the magic weapon), but it lets Derek and I both buy useful things.

Derek, if there are Bard spells you can get wands of that aren't on the Cleric/Oracle list, I'd say those would be your second priority after a CLW wand.

Female Half-Orc Sorcerer, 7th (Brass Draconic Bloodline)

Appario is about to go do meditation through accounting. Semenya is going to go buy two wands if she can find them.

Perhaps Yahira and Semenya meet while shopping?

(FYI - I am focusing on wands that let me buff other party members first and foremost; number one on the list is a wand of Magic Weapon, so that she can help other people damage incorporeal shadow beasts. Number two on the list is Expeditious Retreat, because being able to move faster is often VERY useful...)

If anything, he is a true believer in Commerce, Trade, and Contracts. Defining him as a 'paladin' presents a very narrow setting for a character that I hope is much much more...but might be true from your viewpoint.
