Are offered me a trait to be proficient but I couldn't come up with one to trade out for it. =/

Yeah, Xerath has a lot of HP but is it really any stranger than the bard having the most HP, heh.

Male Chelish Arcane Caster 11 HP: 111/112 AC: 22 FF: 20, Touch: 15 F:+14, R:+10, W:+17 Perception:+9(Effects: Mage Armor, Heroism, Barkskin+4 -1 level)

I took the alternate human favored class option to get more spells. So I got 4 more 0 level spells, 2 more 1st levels, and 2 more 2nd levels. It helps to make up for being cross blooded. And take note I have the lowest AC in the party(atleast w/o buffing) so I need those HP.

I don't know all the nonstandard favored class bonuses by heart, I'm afraid. I usually forget they even exist. But that's the spells cleared up :)

As for bolas attack rolls: It's still a ranged weapon (so BAB + DEX to hit); the CMB to trip would be a result of a successful attack (like the 1d4 damage), not the attack roll itself. And I had forgotten Maddok wasn't proficient in it. I guess that means he might as well get proficiency for free as a racial trait or something ;)

An overturned cart lies beside the door at the end of the alley, although it appears to have been there for a long time. Oh dear. It looks like Derek might be picking another solo (or nearly solo) fight. 10 gp says its that gargoyle back for revenge.

I'm likely not going to be able to post tomorrow (Saturday), but I'll post as often as I can today :)

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario will post in a few hours.

I'm recovering from a bit of sadness now (and yesterday). :(

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Appario has decided to sit out both encounters. Not feeling it right now.

I'll post more tomorrow. I'll sell some stuff and read about Derek's adventures and keep my eyes on what happens in the Pathfinder Lodge.

I'm sorry :(

I can't imagine what I'll be feeling once one of my cats leave this world (one is approaching his 20th birthday), but it will definitely be one of the saddest days of my life.

I'm going to bed now; as mentioned before, I'll be unable to post tomorrow.

I should be back to normal posting on Sunday; don't sit up waiting for any updates from me before then. Hopefully you'll be able to pass the time with some roleplaying among yourselves :)

My condolences, Appario.

Male Human (Taldan) Abadaran Militant 12

Thanks for the kind words.

I ate about 1/3 gallon of ice cream last night...and will be following it up with much beer tonight to celebrate my cat's life when my wife gets home.

Nothing like sugar and alcohol to help put things in perspective.

I hope to be back as Appario this weekend, but maybe not until Monday.

Apologies for not posting earlier today. Plans changed a bit, since my sister and her soon-1-year-old baby decided to stay overnight. I'll be posting soon :)

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

No rush - enjoy the company.

They've left now; that's the reason I finally got the time to post! (it's over an hour past midnight here).

I'm currently making a map for the Delvehaven excursion; while doing so I realized I had posted wrong dimensions for the room with the elemental. In case it matters, it's supposed to be a 30-by-40 ft room, with a 10-ft-diameter pool in the center (ie: double the originally posted dimensions).

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

As always, Are, you manage a split party well.

I spent a bit of time reading a few older posts - in part to regain a sense of Yahirma's spiritual philosophy - and I'm finding some interesting events, dialogue, and goals to incorporate into upcoming posts. We have had some good moments, haven't we?

There have been many great moments in this campaign, and I'm sure many more lie in our future! :)

This is definitely the best ongoing play by post campaign I've played in and easily one of the best campaigns I've been a part of in general.

Are is a fantastic DM with more dedication to us than we deserve.

On that note, has anyone cashed in their credit at AvatarArt.com?

Thank you! I try my best to keep up with all of you :)

Xerath,

Starting a new campaign, settling on my character's personality, and introducing PCs are some of my shakiest moments in a game. I tend to be a little shy until I get to know someone, so I comfortably hunker down into a pleasant party dynamic once I find a niche. With the small change in the story's cast, I'm still getting used to the differences.

In tabletop games, I default to playing somewhat snide characters who frown at silliness. Play-by-Post has certainly brought out a richer story-telling side of me, and in such an environment I find that I greatly enjoy playing spiritual problem-solvers who adopt side projects.

So far I perceive the sorcerer as one of the in-game reality checks for the party*, which clicks well with my table-top style. It's certainly a different experience to be on the other end of the efficient and stoic character's commentary; I think I'll come to enjoy the banter.

To add to this - and perhaps restate the odd point - Xerath seems to be an individual who values a job well-done. When he was first introduced, he was very polite and inquisitive. Now that he has been welcomed into the Gardeners, the politeness seems to be giving way to a more steely side. I speculate, but I can see how emotion beyond his love for his home might be a weakness to him, and that the goal may be greater than the individual. Camaraderie is all well and good, but he seems slow to mentally evolve his perception of an individual from a tool to a friend (see his involvement as our mysterious patron in hound-hunting).

Overall I'm happy with the concept, and Yahirma and I are both happy to be proven wrong on any assessments of Xerath's personality.

*Appario's pragmatism tends to reliably keep the party on track. Maddok is a man of powerful passions that can pull him into danger. Yahirma has grown to respect spirits and trapped individuals, and she is willing to bend over backwards to free a potential ally of any stripe of color. Derek (the old Derek, at least) drinks just about everyone's Kool-Aid, spiking it beforehand to ensure a good time is had by all.

Male Chelish Arcane Caster 11 HP: 111/112 AC: 22 FF: 20, Touch: 15 F:+14, R:+10, W:+17 Perception:+9(Effects: Mage Armor, Heroism, Barkskin+4 -1 level)

Oddly, I tend towards the opposite as Maddok can attest to when it comes to tabletop games. You are right, he does value efficiency and competency. I'm surprised you thought he was polite and inquisitive. I got the feeling I came off as brash and abrasive, which is fine with me of course. You are mostly right in his outlook on life/people, the mission being above nearly all. Though your big speech did sway him enough to agree to you trying, which should be worth something.

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

Yahirma's awesome posts tend to do that.

Male Chelish Arcane Caster 11 HP: 111/112 AC: 22 FF: 20, Touch: 15 F:+14, R:+10, W:+17 Perception:+9(Effects: Mage Armor, Heroism, Barkskin+4 -1 level)

I didn't realize that was one of her class abilities. :)

I am lucky to have played through Eyes of the Ten with both Xerath/Pete and Maddok/Nick so I know them well enough. I have a bit of sadness not to be on the Pathfinder return expedition, but such is life. I'll RP with Xerath more as the story continues, I'm sure.

Btw, it amuses me to think of Appario as 'pragmatic'...probably because it is more accurate than I want to admit and I didn't see it that way.

I'm enjoying this game and look forward to our next joint adventure.

A couple of updates on my end:

1) I will be traveling again from Thursday to Sunday to perform some experiments (hopefully I'll get some good pictures to share). I should be good for another update before departing, but from there feel free to pull Yahirma along where needed. She's still doing fairly well on spells, so expend what you need for a given situation.

2) Xerath, Yahirma packs the Misfortune revelation, which allows for a re-roll as an immediate action so long as you're within 30'. Feel free to grab it at any time outside of combat. I usually have no problem with people just grabbing it during combat, but on occasion I'll post short-term priorities.

3) Yahirma will be doing a bit of crafting after Delvehaven, so I'm still open to any requests for items. Appario, are you still interested in Eyes of the Eagle and/or a Headband of Charisma?

4) Now that she has three uses of Natural Divination, Yahirma tends to dedicate one to the saving throw bonus (+6 at present). Are, since you tend to roll our saving throws, feel free to apply this to whatever you see fit.

Thanks for the heads up Yahirma. Enjoy your 'experimenting'.

Maddok is saving his coppers up to upgrade his strength belt but that might change depending on if these materials have any sort of special properties.

Experimental recreation/testing of Pre-Columbian copper smelting technology, to be specific. We'll be setting fire to some malachite this weekend.

I won't be able to post at all tomorrow, as I'll be away all day.

Hopefully Yahirma will get a chance to post at some point while the doll-conversation goes on; this seems like an encounter that would be perfect for some Yahirma-awesomeness :)

(and I doubt I could do it as well as the original!)

Male Human (Azalanti) Bard 8/Fighter 3

Maybe not, but it would be a close run thing, don't sell yourself short now.

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

I have some internet access for the evening, so I will catch up and post something tonight.

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

Sounds good.

How goes the malachite burning?

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

The experiments have been a success. Five out of six furnaces produced copper and slag blooms (one furnace exploded violently - whee!), and a refining smelt appears to have produced a purer final product. By the end of Day 2, furnace components were looking very similar to the pieces excavated from the archaeological sites, meaning I'm nearly there in reproducing the technology.

As an extra bonus, one of the faculty who specializes in documentary work took a few hours of film to develop into a teaching video.

I'll be driving back home tomorrow.

Male Human (Azalanti) Bard 8/Fighter 3

All very interesting, I've always enjoyed the smelting process myself, even if I've only ever seen iron and steel making.

I got home very late today; I had hoped to be home earlier in order to craft some interesting stories for the "ohnodontstabme" game. Unfortunately that wasn't to be. I'll be home all day tomorrow, so I'll be posting then. Apologies for the wait.

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

This should be interesting without an actual cleric.

Maddok wrote:
Maddok frowns, none of this would be salvageable.

I might have been unclear. While the smallest ships are unsalvageable and the largest are too big for the spell, both Maddok and Xerath discovered mid-sized ships that could be repaired by mending. So it's not all unsalvageable.

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

Ah, reading comprehension is hard.

I'll edit my post.

Haunts are easier to handle when those with healing capabilities notice them before they manifest :)

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

I will start working on the crafting entry, as it appears we're about tidied up at Delvehaven.

Really? Even the ioun stones! Who sells ioun stones?

(jk; do whatever you want, of course!)

Seriously though, I would have thought that harp would be pretty neat for Derek; perform check for damage every round for 3 minutes per day seems pretty useful, and it has defensive abilities too :)

Female Changeling (Mauxi Mwangi) Mwangi Spiritualist 11

I think the harp is really neat, but sadly Yahirma cannot talk at it with Perform (Oratory) to make it work.

Books, on the other hand...books are good fun.

She can't talk to those either, but she feels like they talk back.

Andoran

I believe the ioun stones we've identified have side effects that are too severe to make them useful.

The harp is definitely cool but I don't know if it's 22k gold's worth of cool. Besides, Derek already has a cool offensive toy - the Morrowfall.

Absolutely, but the general idea for the Morrowfall is to eventually combine it with the Totemrix to subdue the powers of both artifacts. At least, that's the idea if you want to eliminate the shadowbeast threat :)

Male Human (Azalanti) Bard 8/Fighter 3

Yes, and while Derek will hate to give it up, he is not too comfortable with something changing him, so he will do it.

Male Shoanti Barbarian/Summoner 12 | 136/136 hp + 0 nonlethal, Init +2, AC 25 (29 /w barkskin) (+1 near Derek) [touch 16, FF 23], Fort +15, Ref +9, Will +12; Perception +6

That's true.

We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Besides, it looks like Derek is planning on joining his big brother on the front lines.

There's one plot point I think may have been overlooked (at least it hasn't been mentioned since it was originally brought up). In addition to informing the group about the origins of the Council and the Drovenge siblings, the Mother of Flies also mentioned that the person responsible for the shadowbeasts resided within a Council guildhall known as Walcourt. That was also the same place Stiglor mentioned he would receive a room those few times he entered the city.

Anyway, perhaps everyone remembered and just figured they'd deal with it later. I figure mentioning it can't hurt, either way :)

I assumed that's where we would make our big decisive strike against the Council but it sounds like Derek wants to learn more about our potential extraplanar invader first.
