Caladrius |
And I'm up...
Perception:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Of course they're trying to burn down the forest, although I'm kind of flattered that they would go to all that trouble just for us. Caladrius rolls his eyes answering Eleri's question.
To the charges, we can at least block the canyon if we cannot set them off at the appropriate time. Gentlemen...and lady, with me!
Pygrado, unless I am mistaken our horses are at the vista which is not very far away, so we have to go back there anyway.
DM CD |
Your horses are to the east, just beyond the forest's edge.
Gareth's arrow strikes the bird in the rear, causing it to squawk angrily and fly erratically for a moment, but it continues to fly away, unhindered by its injuries. Martin's arrow misses as the bird banks to one side.
The halfling whose tube did not fire loudly shouts "Dammit!"
From the east, you hear three loud Cracks! And a shouted "Dammit!" You do not recognize the voice.

Caladrius |
Calarius moves to the southeast, towards the Vista, but upon reaching K20 he sees what is going on beyond the forest and dives for cover behind the large fallen log starting in J20, and motions Martin and Gareth to join him and plan their breakout from the forest.
Pygrado |
S#!t. And ow.
Seeing no better chance to flee than on horseback, Pygrado grunts at the injury and attempts to get on the nearest horse.
5-foot shift diagonal (free)
Sheathe first sabre (swift; quick draw)
Sheathe second sabre (move)
Ride check for swift-mount (modified by dex damage) 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Mount (move)
With his injured shoulder, it takes him longer than he'd like to pull himself into the saddle, but he makes it there.
C'mon, we've got to get the hell out of here!
DM CD |
Eleri and Caladrius move to see what the source of the commotion is, immediately retreating into hiding once they do.
Gareth runs to catch up with the others, but is still well away from the action.
Martin runs into the open to take stock of the situation.
Hearing Caladrius’ shouted warning, Jamros takes cover a little way inside the clearing and readies his crossbow.
Sadly, Pygrado, quick draw does not hasten your ability to sheathe weapons. Luckily, you need only one free hand to mount a horse.
Also, would you please track your current HP either in your profile or in your posts? It would make things a lot easier for me if you would do so.
Feeling his injuries, Pygrado sheathes one sabre and clumsily clambers atop the nearest horse.
The forest continues to burn. Caladrius takes 1d6 ⇒ 2 points of fire damage as the bushes he is hiding in ignite.
Seeing Martin emerge from the forest, the halfling in C34 points at him and shouts, "There's another of them! Fire!"
The halfling in C34 runs to C30, the halfling in D34 runs to D30, the one in E31 runs to F28, and the one in F31 runs to G28. All four level their tubes at Martin and squeeze the underslung triggers. Three of the four tubes spurt flame and smoke, and Martin is struck by three small lead pellets (18 damage from three hits). The first halfling, whose weapon did not fire, curses loudly.
The halflings in E30, F30, I31 and J31 reload their weapons, having shot at Pygrado a moment ago. E30 steps to F31, while F30 steps to G31. I32 and J32 dash to H30 and I30, respectively, and level their weapons at Pygrado. Both squeeze the triggers, and both weapons fire. One bullet grazes Pygrado's cheek (1 damage), while the other scores a shallow hit on the horse in I27-J28 (2 damage).
"He's tryin' to escape! Stop him!" One of the halflings shouts. The halflings in G36-H37 advance in a line from F33 to I33 and fire at Pygrado. All four weapons fire, but three miss as the halflings deliberately aim cautiously to avoid hitting their allies. One shot strikes Pygrado in the leg (3 damage).
The halfling in D35 shouts, "You're outmatched! Surrender immediately and you will be treated honorably as prisoners of war!"
From beyond the treeline you hear numerous loud Cracks!, some cursing, and cries of "There's another of them! Fire!", "He's tryin' to escape! Stop him!", and "You're outmatched! Surrender immediately and you will be treated honorably as prisoners of war!"

Caladrius |
It's been a while since I got to play a prison break adventure. Caladrius is hopefully going to be good at this sort of thing.
On a vaguely related note, I hope that a gunpowder is like a necklace of fireballs in that it has a chance to go off when it takes fire damage. That would be hilarious.
DM CD |
I hadn't thought about that, Caladrius, but I love the idea. Given the way early firearms had to be loaded, yes, it totally acts that way. You do need to make it through the powder horn in which the gunpowder is carried, however. Powder horns are naturally resistant to fire. How resistant depends on the quality of the horn. Sound fair to everyone?
Hey, Dartol isn't with us, and I don't think any of you have bonded items...
Martin Stillwaters |
Martin will use three charges from his belt as a standard: 4d8 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 4) = 13
and then drops his bow, Well, I know when I've been beat
CD,It is three to one and they do have muskets, and we are only lvl 3. While I agree some of this group has more AOE then me, there's not much I can do other than die to the next round of fire considering AC counts for nothing against them. And considering those with AOE are Jamros and Caladrius who just surrendered, well I mean we have only so many options.
DM CD |
The halflings reshuffle themselves slightly. Those who fired last round reload their weapons, while the one in D35 advances to F32 and calls out, "All right, drop your weapons and walk slowly over to me with your hands up. Lie down once you get here."
Those who have loaded weapons keep them trained on Pygrado, Jamros, and Martin.
Caladrius is still sitting in the middle of a fire and takes 1d6 ⇒ 1 fire damage. Gareth ran through a burning bush on the way to L21 and takes 1d6 ⇒ 6 fire damage.
Eleri, it is getting uncomfortably warm in the clearing. No ill effects of staying there for the moment, but you might start needing to roll fort saves vs nonlethal heat damage soon. Just a heads-up.
Eleri Warlow |
Eleri will double-move, first southward through column 16 (trying to avoid moving through any of the fires), then east and northeast to take cover alongside Gareth in K20. She whispers so that Caladrius and Gareth could both hear.
"I hope the others know surrender is not an option, not after what that other halfling did to our captive. Whenever you attack, I'm right behind you. I should be able to incapacitate a few of them fairly quickly, as long as they're aggregated together."
Gareth Aldridge |
Gareth shrugs, "I've had enough of this. Time to give them a little payback!"
Gareth grits his teeth and takes a step back to L20. He takes 2 shots, both at the supposed leader in H28, unless the first shot drops him, in which case he'll fire at H30.
Attack 1:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage 1:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Attack 2:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage 2:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Caladrius |
Caladrius fumes as Gareth opens fire. No! No, no, no! The plan was to let them close with us so that I don't have to run across that godsdamned open field!
Caladrius then calls out to the halfligs Lay down your weapons and you will be treated honorably as prisoners of war, you little shits. before moving to the other bank of trees next to Martin where it is less on fire than his present location D21. I should be able to get there without running through any fire except for that one which I already took damage from this turn.
Stealth if there is enough cover:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
DM CD |
Caladrius - I was looking through character sheets a moment ago, and I noticed a couple of problems with yours. I don't see how your AC and touch AC are 19 and 13, respectively, while your dexterity modifier is only +2. By my calculations they should both be one point lower. Also, how do you have 5 feats? You get one at first level, one at third, one for being human, and Dragontouched as a bonus feat. That's four feats. You have five listed on your profile. Please explain and/or correct these discrepancies.
Pygrado |
Prior to the attack, Pygrado would have raised his hands over his head and advanced slowly to G29 and knelt.
Jesus you guys, I'm at 5hp and am crippled. You're on your own in this one.
When Caladrius opens fire, he throws himself to the ground in the most non-threatening manner he can.
No! Surrender! There's too many of them!
